Eventually it Will Go Away might as well be his campaign slogan. It's like ignoring warnings on a category 5 hurricane, refusing to prepare, pretending it's a hoax, encouraging people to stay in town and go to restaurants while it's happening, blaming forecasters for projecting 160 mph sustained winds instead of 170, and spin the resulting devastation by saying other hurricanes were more deadly. And this one went away.
"Vote for me. Eventually I will go away."
Does anyone know what the hell he was talking about when he was talking about his complete healthcare plan heโs signing in two weeks that heโs now empowered to unilaterally do because of the DACA ruling? That struck me as something new I hadnโt heard before ...
There were a bunch of posts when the clips from this interview came out, but this is the full interview with a few edits. I think this is the longest interview I've seen with Trump in a few years. I think the edits are good in some cases and bad in others. The edit for the mortality rate was good although I wish they would've dived into why there were differences between the two referenced charts. If they fact checked him there, I'm very surprised they didn't fact check him more (although I'm only 10 minutes or so in).
I'm really surprised Fox released bits of this interview early and also that they released the whole thing mostly unedited. I know Chris Wallace is definitely on the more unbiased side of news at Fox, but the network as a whole releasing this sort of feels like a sign that Fox may be trying to distance themselves from Trump, but also Trump sort of just repeats his same shtick and for the most part Chris lets him even though he challenges him in some cases.
I don't think there's anything new here to be said about Trump. He lies about things in a way that let's him be technically true like COVID "eventually disappear". I think the big piece of news is that Fox released this entire interview.
TRANSCRIPT HERE. May be faster and more tolerable than listening.
Trump throwing out nonsense again and again. Baseless optimism is a feature because he'll say anything to make himself look good.
I'll quote some highlights in the next post, edited to leave the crux of the responses.
Since I hadn't seen it before this interview, here's a link to the VA's copy of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment that Trump says he aced. I think the test is administered by someone else with audio and visual cues. As you can see, it's a test for parkinsons and the bar is pretty low.
This interview was extremely uncomfortable to watch. Cringeworthy, even. Trump was clearly embarrassed after being cornered by his own words and actions throughout most of the interview, and I have a feeling his campaign staff were shaking their heads and eye-rolling while watching this. I think Wallace gave one of the best interviews weโve seen of trump. He asked tough questions and (for the most part) didnโt allow trump to side step the questions. I honestly donโt understand what people see in trump, and I would be very curious to hear what his fervent supporters think about this interview after watching it in its entirety. Politics aside, you have to admit this was not his greatest moment.
The more I see Trump talk, the less I want to see debates, and would rather the candidates hold townhalls where they donโt interact with each other. I donโt really care to see Trump and Biden focus on each other so much, I want to hear what their policies are for fixing the ills of the nation.
This was definitely interesting. Trump did better than I expected simply by lasting the entire interview, and even handled a couple of things relatively well (namely his response to questions about Mary Trump's book and his father).
But it was still mostly just... bad. It's been a few hours since I watched the interview and off the top of my head:
There's plenty more of course but the thing that really sticks out in my mind is how hard Trump is pushing the idea that Biden isn't mentally competent. I think he's betting too heavily on that, especially with his claims that Biden has been keeping a low profile because he's incapable and his specific claim that Biden couldn't possibly survive a 40 minute interview with Wallace. I suspect we will see Biden do exactly that in the very near future.
While I do have to admit that if Biden fails to rise to this challenge, it would look pretty bad for him, I also believe the bar for this challenge is incredibly low for all the stock Trump is putting into it.
Does anyone know what Trump was talking about when he said they would be releasing a healthcare plan in 2 weeks after Wallace said that he has no Healthcare plan after 3.5 years. He said that the Supreme Courts ruling on DACA gave him the right to do it. Was he referring to an expected, upcoming DACA order, and just answering a question he wanted to respond to that wasnโt asked? Or is there really a significant healthcare initiative expected to be kicked off soon? Really confused, and Chris Wallace immediately pivoted to the Mary Trump book after he said it.
