they meet their one true love right their soul mate the person that they're gonna spend the rest of their life with and I thought about it I said that won't we keep acromial eight twenty years ago but he met me so I guess I should introduce myself I rule the other like those calls it the tenth grade no we didn't go to high school together and no we didn't even go to college together and yes he lived in Ohio whilst I was in New York so how did me foreshow handle it how many of you have been been solicited by organizations when you were in high school that you you spent a few thousand dollars their parents cash you go away on this trip you're gonna meet new friends you're gonna have these international experiences you're gonna learn some new skills how many we've actually done that before we're been solicit yeah the GSB people so Carla I had that right and we certainly got our money's worth so with an organization called people in people I remember descending upon Washington DC for the first night but I gotta tell you I was nervous as hell right you've got hundreds of students same age run 10th grade all going to the same location for a weekend the way they break it up is that so figure 10 people 10 students to one team for masala tater so we're getting into this room for the first time and I look across for me okay and I see something he's skinny he's handsome he's high-energy a corn-fed whiteboy style haircut take I myself damn yeah you don't see that where I come from buzzin sit next to him on our way to the Washington Monument so needless to say Colin died instantly Bogdan we get great friends we learned so much of each other we attended the conference here at the year you know P is here and there the crowd one of one of the one of the members of the group we travel together to service the projects together you name it and then one day he bites me to Ohio to visit I'll never forget the day that I pulled up in front of his house I looked around I was like damn this is some Kevin McAllister home ownership and you know I'm a first generation New Yorker so I'm come from a modest background so you know how that goes he's had these big brick walls and jam the guest room the kitchens the office is damn Turtles [Laughter] and then he opened the garage door take me on a tour of Loveland high school with his car this guy works out a 1998 Toyota Camry with barely four wheels on you know what I'm talking about because that car has traveled from Washu to Stanford GSB and back so hookers and all you know who knows how to talk about you guys know that call and that's what I thought on me earlier that Karl couldn't care less because that's not important that's not what he cares about it's not what motivates him this fan was raised by two incredible parents grew up the smartest on the block one of the best on the fetal sexy enough to grace the cover of a Wheaties box Oh perfect he is and he just doesn't see it that way no ego just love and kindness a desire to be a nice person and do good in the world Karl's ability to make people feel like they are worthy of love and belonging is why so many of us are here so now fast forward a few years I'm in my tiny Garciaparra in the West Village it's a summer it's hot as hell sick as a dog I'm sitting there watching YouTube videos trying to like get this away right and I've got tissues everywhere there's takeout containers all over the place you know how that goes with your sick right I got a phone call from Clongowes you know JLo I'm coming over to say hi I've got a friend with me a female friend you're gonna like I'm thinking really how sick is that all I'm not I'm not trying to meet anybody right now like not like this and then I find out she's a doctor some Gatorade and Advil that's for the first time sure that was this radiated like positivity she gave me the whole drink fluids take some Advil you know that's Tibet and I feel better instantly because there's a doctor there you know how that happens right it doctors don't worry about you also to feel better she interacted with me as if I had known her for years no judgment just loving kindness and I'm looking at call this man is straight up bro glowing like one of those light rights you know what those are are those those like right some kids with bright white light brights so ash excuses herself to the bathroom I turn on the TV and I'm like damn call that woman is the cow that's the kind of caliber you don't see every day if you don't take that seriously I'm gonna turn straight [Applause] serious I think I could say that well day one it was very clear white Paul was so enchanted by ash her humility her selflessness or pact by helping others Leone you and illustrated that so eloquently today great job so why do I tell these two stories in particular why does it matter because what we witnessed here with Colin ash is the joining of two people who treat everyone with dignity love respect and kindness to people who get filled up by what they're doing not drained by it to people whose definition of success is about contribution who live to serve others and because no matter who you are where you're from or what you believe despite being apart many times their life's going you know Ashley's always at the hospital three o'clock meet six o'clock and grows all the time in other parts of the world right they share something beautiful in common it's this their unwavering commitment to help others and to make the world a better place on the streets of Oakland to the temperatures of Africa two beautiful human beings cut to the synthetic so today we celebrate that well that no we should drink we're ghosts I knew I cried first of several heavy plateaus okay I'm
