donations for the trainer and Bulbasaur name you want those right now yeah all right so the trainer name is day nine day that day with the number nine that ended up at one thousand seventy dollars okay there are no numbers in the trainer name they will tape out nine make it happen I will make it happen don't worry and then the Bulbasaur name the Bulbasaur name is Ken Bogart ken Bogart okay with three thousand two hundred thirteen dollars and thirty seven Wow so the French community is always right you good to go we good all right yep let's do it three two one go alright so starting off right away there's normally a trainer name and the rival name incentive for Pokemon games as most of you know but I didn't have a rival name incentive okay so it was day nine yes and I'll just type out nine it'll fit and that's because I'm gonna dedicate the rival name to one of my childhood friends you helped get me into speedrunning so I'm gonna name it after him all right so anyway we're gonna pretty much start this off like every pokemon run you kind of have to play through at least some of the game glitchless but this will be a very good strong so we'll get to that soon I grabbed the potion because this rival phase is actually one of the hardest runs and pretty much all the pokemons speed running especially if you don't have the potion and even with the potion you can still die we are picking Bulbasaur is our starter and Bulbasaur is not that great of a fader especially against a Charmander that has growl and scratch if he growls you you're effectively doing half damage and it becomes really really hard to kill but luckily if you get criticals it ignores the stat drop from growl so we'll be able to do a lot more extra damage alright so if they can spell this right here we go alright so it was kendo guard [Music] is it ard is that it yes okay there are so many donations I'm just pre reading them yeah it's fine okay so here comes the rival fight this is probably the hardest fight in this entire speedrun this guy can do a lot of damage but so can the legal fight so our effective strategy is to just mash the a button until we're at low health and then we heal and then we start mashing the a button again that's a perfect first turn come on that's bad attack that's a little bit unfortunate but we should be okay there's only two stats that matter on Bulbasaur the attack and the special we don't really care so much about the other stats but those two matter quite a bit I'm gonna go for a strategy with the special I have a setup for it and if it doesn't work I'll have to use a backup strat and it loses this about a minute and a half to two minutes but it's pretty much the expected outcome [Music] all right so now I'm going to use the potion [Music] all right this should be okay yeah another growl fail so I should come in two turns unless he grabs me perfect okay just need to hit the tackle nice that's arrival fate I'm gonna check my special here okay so I had 14 special and 11 attack which is pretty much the riskiest bow of a story you can get which is great for a marathon run but we'll see how it works out all right so another pretty big time loss section is route 1 we have to take two trips up route 1 and one trip back and every grass patch has roughly a 10% chance of giving you an encounter each encounter loses a bit of time but that's just kind of part of the category and I'm going to take this time to do a couch rolecall so if you guys want to say who you are the keys are on I'm stumped Ivan's Aryan I am extra tricky I am me gustas and I am shenanigans alright so once we give up the pewter or pewter Verdean we're gonna go to the Mart and we're gonna get Oaks parcel and we can take that back and give it to oak and then we can finally be on our journey also this will probably be a really good time for donations when we were heading back on route 1 so if you have any of the nations you want to read go ahead oh yeah I have donations $50 from men 58 out I have been watching videos of these marathons for a while now but this is my first time watching live and it has been a blast I just had to donate to support the awe how crazy good the burners have been my dad used to spend hours upon hours watching me and my siblings play all the generation of Mario's game I'm an expert it I'm extra inspired to donate because of Doctors Without Borders good luck to all the future runners and thank you to all the runners I've seen so far sgdq rocks alright so pretty much this is just another dialogue sequence again this game we still have to play it at least the first a little bit at the intended way but well we'll be getting there soon if you notice he talks to oak from the side if you talk to oak either from behind or the side it actually saves time because the rival effectively moves at about half speed so this reduces the amount of tiles he walks yeah you walked with a lot of style you'll probably know this when he leaves here pretty soon his hair swings back and forth and stuff yeah alright so way back to route 1 we're also gonna take a quick visit to the Mart once we get back to Verdean because we're gonna need to buy a few things we need our money to be at the very specific value for part of a glich much later in the game so we're gonna be going to the Marten trying to set up our money to be at that value we also need to have six items by the time that we get to saffron so I'm going to be buying three of them or I have the potion but we buy the other two now so that was a pretty average route one section [Music] because I use the potion in the rival fight I'm gonna buy the paralyzed heal first [Music] now if I eat pokeballs because we're gonna be catching a lot of Pokemon alright I'm also gonna pick up a hidden potion there's five hidden potions that you can get before you fight the weasel trainer I'm gonna pick up two of them on the way and I'm also going to try to catch a Caterpie when I'm in the forest a Caterpie or a weasel I need one of the two this is pretty much the only place in the game that you can get a Caterpie or a Weedle so it's really convenient to get one here Ossetians taking a very specific path through the grass here and that's because some tiles in Verdean forest cannot generate encounters specifically tiles that have a star in the bottom right corner cannot generate encounters so he's gonna walk through 80 tiles in the forest of course that's one that does have an encounter but of the 80 tiles that he walks through on his way to Pewter only 28 can generate encounters and also the two tiles that he'll walk through after fighting the bug catcher he won't be able to get an encounter there because of we call the three-step rule which is after you have an encounter or fight a trainer you can't get an encounter until the third step after the fight right nice so catching Academy here is really nice because that means I won't have to worry about it later it's also pretty tricky to get Caterpie in the forest because the encounter rates so low you usually have to walk several steps before you can get one on average you get an encounter I believe one every thirty two steps so it takes a quite a long time to get one I'm gonna pick up the patient in front of this guy as well then we're going to start the fete alright so this guy's wheedle is pretty strong it's level nine we're only level six so he was quite an advantage on this that way luckily we're Bulbasaur so he can't be poisoned because Bulbasaur is half poisoned so we don't really have to worry about getting status during this fight he has two moves that he can use string shot and poison sting we're already slower than him so string shot is completely useless for him to use so I really prefer that poison sting just to damage now that I've growled him and if it critical it'll do five to six six is extremely rare because I had bad attack this is really the only point in the game that my attack matters instead of the feeding this wheedle in seven turns it'll take me nine so I'll get to hit them a few extra times [Music] right and this is after this fight I'm also gonna check my stats again hopefully I see 16 special if I don't see 16 special I'll need to use that backup strat that I was talking about otherwise I can do a pretty cool skip [Music] getting 16 specials a little tough because it's about a 40% chance from here to get it yeah alright so here we go yeah obviously [Music] so yeah I'll have to do the backup now it's just a little bit unfortunate but that's not too big of a deal it doesn't lose too much time [Music] alright so this is what normally happens when you need an encounter there we go all right that's perfect cool oh that's not perfect never mind [Music] how do I want to play this so if he had successfully gotten sixteen special he could have done a strat where he catches a Pidgey and we would look for a Pidgey with a specific hit point value since he obviously didn't get the special he has to reduce the PP of his moves down to specific numbers we're looking for 16 and tackle and we're looking for a 36 in growl and we do this just because it makes Barack easier yeah oh he evaded that attack come on there we go [Music] I gave my health back a critical hit here would be really nice [Music] it might be pretty slow I probably shouldn't have fought this because it is level six if you want if you watch them anyone 5-1 runs if there's no identical run because the RNG changes to run on the fly many times so you can watch a 1 5 1 now and then a 1 5 1 later it's two similar routes but it's very different in execution I could I was banking on one critical there so I'm looking I got it otherwise I would add though waste about 3 extra turns ok so I'm all set up now for the the Brock fight and by the Brock fight I mean doing the first glitch of the run which is called the Brock skip this is a pretty old glitch and it would allow us to get to her route 3 without fading Brock it's pretty simple actually an execution but afterwards we found a secondary set up with using this glitch that allows us to do something pretty cool so by pressing the B button out of his dialogue I'm able to pull up my menu and if I have my cursor over my Save icon I can save the game and reset and when they reload the game I'll be able to walk to the right and go right past them [Music] I got in I can then go up here switch my team around whoops talk to him from the right and now I can walk through walls so we found this glitched or at the end of 2014 and we call it Brock through walls because it gives us the ability to walk through walls because of the trainer near Brock oh what am i doing so normally when you interact with that trainer he leads you to Brock's gym and the game looks up of movement instructions based on where you are when you interact with them you're not supposed to be able to interact with them from the right side so the game looks for something corresponding to that location and usually you got a softlock but by setting officers current PP up like we did it uses posters level as a pointer to that movement data overflows the buffer corrupts and memory and lets you walk through walls yeah it's actually pretty interesting that we're even able to find it to begin with and we have multiple setups for it as well which is pretty cool so I'm gonna heal in Saffron you might think I would use my crazy walking through walls power to go to the end of the game like Victory Road but there's actually a glitch that we can set up when we're here in Saffron and that will allow us to break the game even more than we could if we were to go straight to the end of the game so a lot of people know about the glitch called trainer fly some people refer to it as the mucilage it can be done by finding a trainer with maximum range and then using a Pokemon with teleport or fly by walking in front of them teleporting fly dig or escape rope away and we can't really use fly because we would need searches badge for that and I don't know how good that my level eat Bulbasaur and my Caterpie with you against a Raichu but I would think pretty poorly but luckily we can get teleport through an Abra and we can buy an Abra from the game corner for 120 coins in red version it costs a little bit more which is one of the main reasons that we run pokemon blue it saves about 30 seconds in picking up coins but it's not too bad all right so this guy gives us 20 and then there's just 100 coins sitting on the ground here for some reason all right that's enough I love your gambling skills Lucien thank you my gambling skills are pretty good all right so we get our Abra and the reason they healed in Saffron is every time I use teleport I return to the last Pokemon Center there they used and the last one that used was in Saffron so that's where I'll return it's pretty nice that the mechanic works like that in this Jen because Jen - and beyond once you enter a center you don't have to use it but that's your main hub yeah alright so this is the last time we get to see ken by Ken [Music] nice movement oh I know she usually moves for me man [Music] I'm also gonna grab the psychic TM Abra is psychic tape and we're gonna be going to the fighting dojo pretty soon so we need a psychic-type move so that'll help alright so I mean just set up that trainer fight glitch that I was talking about by using a trainer on Route six down here the way that trained player works is that when the trainer loads on the screen it normally looks down and before it can face the correct direction it allows you to input a button and just in this case we're going to input the start line to open the manual and you from there we're going to access teleport I also use this as with fly day and the steep ropes yeah it's a one frame trick so I'm pretty happy a guy that first try all right so we're gonna fight this guy oh I didn't keep psychic I have teleport that's the second time if we should be fine [Music] all right so here we go all right he's gonna soften us up here we go though ooh that's unfortunate that's probably gonna kill ya oh well pretty impressive train addition thank you all right so now let's just set up another one all right [Music] hey look it's missing now alright so the way the trainer fly works is once I set up the glitch the next time I return to the route they set it up on a Pokemon will appear to battle me based off the special set of the last poke when they battled so I battled that level 31 the Chop because that is 31 special and 31 special is what corresponds with missing now so I fade them I returned to the route and I get them missing now so now I'm gonna do it one more time and the reason for this is because I need to have an eighth Amina have 255 psychic teams this serves several purposes the first is that I need money obviously I don't have a lot of money having lost one battle and only beat my rival and a trainer Verdean Forest and I need to buy about half a million's worth of things when they go to sell gongs mark so by duplicating my TMS I can get a lot of money from that and then it also allows us to do a glitch called item underflow which I'm sure one of you guys can explain if you do this earlier that Shen tossed away two TMS the reason is that when you do benita items it only duplicates it you have a value of one point seven of our Bowl oh yeah the way the duplicating works is it adds 128 to the sixth item of your inventory so my sixth item was the TM 29s and it can't add 128 to 129 because that would be in a quantity above 256 so I had the toss to to make sure I could add the two values together okay so now we're gonna go to the Mart we're gonna buy several things and we're also going to set up the item under flow clutch and the item under folk which is the reason that this game is pretty broken all right it's also really convenient that the guard just lets us through even though he says the road is closed the game assumes that you can't reach Saffron yet because technically you can so whenever you step on a tile that interacts with that guard it just immediately assumes you cannot enter Saffron so he just lets you through in this case yeah when we were like originally routing the walk through walls glitch we thought that we would have to heal and sell it on because we thought we would be trapped forever if we healed there all right so I'm gonna sell something on this so there's how I get most of my money all right now I need to buy several things every single thing I'm buying has a purpose and we have barely enough money together though I actually did not pay attention to the girl so hopefully she doesn't block me she moved up she didn't move up okay she would've walked a that girl is another example of fickle RNG she can either move up or down or just stay still if she moves up she actually has a chance to block your paths you have to go around her yep [Music] all right we're definitely gonna use all of those all right yeah CSU with a block me if I went up good call keys all right it's a few more things than you do bye that's three of those so again I need like the evolutionary stands obviously to evolve all the Pokemon and like I said earlier I need to end on the very specific money value that value is actually any quantity that has a four in the thousands place and then nine in the hundreds place so you'll know this when they finish my shopping we have just enough money for that [Music] there you go I'm gonna stand here and it's awesome Athens for a moment so this is when he starts to set up item underflow 2:55 has a very interesting characteristic when it comes to stacks of items the game actually treats it as a canceled item so by him discarding 255 items over and over and over he's actually moving the menus canceled up more and more and more so he's gonna do this 17 times and he's probably gonna fact-check it to be safe 11 12 13 you learned how to count when you play Pokemon just like in DK 64 now he's gonna merge all these items and what this allows us to do is it allows us to bypass the cancel so you're going to see the underflow that is not marathon safe master rolls I think they'd be mad if I took those alright so pretty much there's all kinds of like information down here so I'm going to be messing around with a lot of it and they'll have some weird effects [Music] a lot of the tiles below the cancel button correspond with different sections of memory in the game some of them being the tech speed and all the other options being the location where you are a trainer ID rival name which is why we pick a very specific rival name so you might have noticed that all the text boxes have sped up now and this is because the game stores and the option buy it how many frames per character it should look like how many frames per character should wait so normally you can set it to either one three or five and what shenanigans did is he set it to zero so now each text box will display in one frame I can also teleport out of the Mart now which is pretty convenient otherwise I'd have to walk all the way out those were some ugly items in that menu I'm also gonna call off the new name incentive now wait what am i doing ever done with a before now [Music] so now he's also doing underflow for the PC and he's going to accomplish it in much the same way [Music] so what one be incentive for them you name it so they sent incentive for the MU name is John Cena yes good job guys with 1416 dollars and eight cents fantastic John Cena puts into work Oh about eight hundred dollars above the next well good job everybody all right so finally we're able to see some difference and the reason for this is the PC actually can hold up to fifty items so we have to scroll through those 50 items even if they don't exist which is pretty inconvenient one two three four five I'll be very careful with some of this stuff having to like break the game or anything all right [Music] so now we're gonna catch Moo similarly to everybody else you set up a trainer fly and you fete the trainer with a slowpoke north of cerulean at level 17 slowpoke which a lot of people did as kids to catch him you we're gonna do it kind of like the speed on our way I guess and the reason for that is it's pretty slow the walk up to him they'd be pretty fast if we could make him come to us [Music] hey there this is actually also the last trainer battle of the entire game so we're gonna end our our fighting career with a negative record two and three just kind of unfortunate I guess but who needs a good record when you have all 151 Pokemon alright so we're gonna go up here and the Meuse gonna appear and you might know this I didn't set up a trainer fly or anything so come up you guys explain that so in when we under float the PC this gave us access to some of the memory little eyes after that and with that we can actually set trainer flies up on particular routes without actually going there so we did that for a couple over else yeah alright guys I need everyone to be quiet really quick like yeah can we all can we all be quiet I'm Mitch I need the sneak past all these guys to catch my hit modeling so just kind of keep it down for a minute I'm going to turn off the lights to maybe they'll help us and you pass them come on guys [Music] all right here we go [Music] all right we did it all right we're gonna make our escape that hold on [Music] all right we did it we're in Vermillion we're safe all right they'll never find this year it's okay so Vermillion is a nice hub for the rest of the run and also we're wanted in Saffron so we kind of need to stay somewhere else yeah I fortunately there's a bake pretty low an art bag there the bag items are pretty they're not random but they are in a sense so we need to get a few items here and the reason the Vermillion so good to go to is we can get a lot of the items we need here we're gonna get a 9 F and then we're gonna teach flying dick to John Cena so because otherwise those would be pretty hard to get all right we ended up in Vermillion because one of the things that was done in the item menu in the dojo was to change the last map that we were in so it's a wrong work I'm also gonna call off the electrode name now so if you can tell me what one the electrode name over in the power plant forgot to mention that [Music] it's a game man it's pretty good we can also walk through walls that's another thing I forgot to mention we have an item that lets us walk through walls all the times you'll hear us call it jackin through walls and the reason for that is the original item that we use to walk through walls was an item called Jack so what's the electrode name yes we did it everybody the champ is here the champ is here Ali's actually right here all right how much did that win by approximately all right okay if John Cena number 2 can I stick in one quick donation here really quick yeah all right so we have $500 from shenanigans family hi and sister Nana gates oh thank you guys all right so we're doing a shot that we call edit shots here by exploding on this vote or we have our Caterpie out at first so we actually get just enough experience it at level 7 when we evolve it saves us a few seconds it's really convenient I'm also gonna be looking for a few pokemon here I need to catch a Pikachu and a magnum eight this is pretty much when the game gets pretty difficult because I need to start catching a lot of the Pokemon and for the pretty much the rest of the run I'm going to be of using a trick called D some manipulation it allows us to predict the encounters I'm sure tricky can get more in depth on it as well yeah so you'll see it shortly so the game keeps two random bytes which it uses for things throughout the game and the two random bytes aren't independent in any sense so so there there some in particular changes very predictably over time and when generating encounters the first one is used for determining when you get an encounter and the second one determines what encounter you get so what you'll see shenanigans do is he'll first he'll set up his party how he wants and then he's going to look for any encounter first because he doesn't have any knowledge of the D some once he gets an encounter it's a Voltorb now he has some information about what the D some is now he's going to run from the battle and take started looking for encounters and then again okay so he got it in the first set if he didn't get it in the first set he would stop looking for encounters and then start again once it was more favorable for either a Magnemite or a Pikachu so you'll probably see that for the Pikachu because you'll only be looking for one particular Pokemon instead of n either of two I would like to also say it returned at D some fails I will be donating $1 to Doctors Without Borders you're going to be so poor after this darn hope there's $1 isn't an exact so this differs from RNG manipulation in the traditional sense because first we're not actually manipulating the RNG we're just exploiting our knowledge about it was and second even though we're only taking advantage of a correlation between the two variables so even if we do it perfectly there's a chance that we don't get encounters at the right time there's still a range on what the first variable can be because encounter rate is reasonably large and so there is still randomness it is very possible to get the wrong encounter even when you're doing it perfectly yeah and a lot of times I'll be tracking it through multiple cycles because I'll go a lot of time without getting encounters sometimes and it's it becomes pretty difficult pretty quickly all right well John Cena here we go oh that's unfortunate come on John Cena alright this one seems to be a little bit better unfortunately John Cena just lost his championship belt it would appear [Music] oh and fYI really quick we just found out that we surpassed the amount raised for there's a chance you won't get to know that if everything goes perfectly fine you know it's not oh no way alright so I need to catch a Nidoran female and the Paris they're roughly 70% that I catch them before they run away it's about 80% for Paris and 70% for knitter and female doduo is nice to catch I don't need it it's about 50% when they catch it before it runs but we'll get to sit here probably for a little bit okay well I caught the one that I don't need which is great alright so again I'll be using D some to try and get the other encounters so if you notice every time he warped somewhere he goes to the underflow menu of his item like I'd mentioned earlier specific slots coordinate with specific bits of the memory so he's usually throwing away a certain amount of items to match the map index and that's how we ended up at the power plant that's how we're at safari zone and that's how we're gonna get all over the place [Music] come on man it's going a journey unbelievable so while this is going on a fun fact about how the wrong warping works but what the slot that we normally use is store is the last overworld map that we've been on now that that doesn't have to be an overworld map we can change it to be non overworld Maps but that value is used whenever you go through a door to the overworld so like exiting from building is generally what will win you'll see a warp all right so the last thing I'm sorry guys can't do it so this is kind of hard to time but I'm trying to get a Paris and this is the thing right before it yeah I note about D some is that whether you get an encounter at any particular time is still random what's on a time cycle is just what encounter it will be if you happen to get one at that time the best way to think about it in a simple term is think about a price is right wheel yeah that's kind of the way I'd like to describe it and each encounter slot takes up a certain percentage of that wheel based off of how common it is here we go all right third time's a charm again it's 78 percent chance I catch this thing before it runs so come on yes there we go okay we're done with safari zone all right that is by far the hardest part of the run well the hardest in terms of rng based all right Pete you went to the box cuz I have a magnet on all right something kind of challenging about this run is there's a lot of different like patterns and whatnot so I already have to like change my route based off of something that happened earlier I normally would have had my Pikachu and my party at this point but it went to the box because I got a magnet on before it so a lot of the times I'll be kind of routing different sections on the fly based off what happened in the past 1 5 1 is a very improv heavy route yeah that's for sure wait a minute this an execution is a must - if you guys have noticed there are a bunch of J items like that one right there if you get an Eaton input and you accidentally use it instead of tossing it you crash the game immediately yeah there's a lot of places that I can crash the game immediately very easily luckily I just saved as well anyway now that we're here we can thanks to the kindness of this sign get a few V's where you get three of them to evolve into the three eeveelutions just really convenient that they're just like in the sign or something and now we can gather the mansion to catch a few things I would show you guys expecting coughing right now that was text pointer manipulation yeah what we did there is cause the game to bring up text from a different part of it including all side effects such as getting movies yeah I like how there's two exclamation points after John Cena everytime it's a Santa hope so the technique that he's that he's using to get encounters here we call it corner banking because normally you do it in a corner here there happens to be a way place you can do it by turning it around but the idea is that when you're stationary you can actually get encounters when you turn in addition to when you move so by walking into a wall you stay stationary the entire time and you can generate encounter checks more frequently so this is what we're talking about I can track the see some but I can't always generate the encounter so a lot of the times you'll see me bunking between two walls and look completely hopeless but I'm actually trying to track the DS on this whole time barely missed but this is so good [Music] all right so I'm looking for a ponyta honey cause 40% here it can come in four different levels 34 being the best and also the most common this is actually pretty close to it it's that 32 Grimer isn't it yeah all right so here we go come on there we go this has a good chance nice at least we can see the Grimer spray the lot skies hands up completely irrelevant to the run Grimer as my favorite sprite of all time because no don't happy and he looks like he's on a roller coaster okay we got her pants on [Music] right so that's all we need from here so now we can leave so again a lot of the time I'm doing these menus I'm setting up things for later as well don't pay attention to day 9 being all over the screen right this is probably the biggest mashing section in the game I toss a lot of those okay and now we're here all right so we don't actually have this Silph scope so we can't catch the ghost Pokemon because again you need to self scope to catch them but we can do a pretty cool trick to actually catch fun it's level 19 good I don't need to check who's that Pokemon I have no idea who he's about to be so again I can't normally throw balls at this but if I swap a few items around I can which is really nice because I really do need the ghastly all right so the worst part about running Jen to Pokemon is spinners and these balls are spinners and they're also Pokemon this is really cool so now we have a gang gar on screen so what was done there is called we call it crazy warp we changed the map ID we are currently on in the battle so when we finished the battle we respawn in the same place on a different map but with all the objects from the first map still there yeah it's really convenient because it turns it basically turns these items into Pokemon so we're able to catch them there's actually three that we're gonna get on this route hopefully I can show off the spinning mechanic oh I didn't think oh yeah we can still walk through walls don't worry about it this dodging trainer there all right here we go [Music] you can do it come on [Music] anytime now I promise something's gonna happen you get to listen to that bank music hey there we go felt like walk over to us so yeah all three of them balls work that way as well so it's pretty funny I can actually talk to them I don't have to wait for it to come to me but I figured I'd show it off this is pretty silly these three Pokemon are very important because eventually we're gonna go to the Elite Four and we need to build up our team and level zero is a good middle ground to start if I didn't catch a doduo in the Safari zone I would catch one in that grass but I already caught it so I don't need to worry about it OOP [Music] all right so I'm gonna evolve the three V's now as well as the Pikachu I could catch a ride right you in me to cave but it's actually pretty nice if I can evolve one earlier and the reason for that is whenever I have an a them removed from my inventory as you may remember from earlier when the item above a stack of 255 gets deleted it duplicates that stack of 255 again so this way by having all the thundersense removed from my inventory as well as those two master bowls I tossed I'll now have around a thousand rare candies which is really nice because it's three sacks which I need to get a few things here now you may have noticed that we didn't go to mount moon so we don't have the helix or dome fossil so it might be pretty difficult for us to get almond eight or kibou though but luckily were able to get them here so one more evolution the good thing is I have a Vaporeon a Jolteon and a flareon so I didn't mess up I've lost a run to having to flare eons before which is not fun [Music] alright sounds we scroll down we have a bunch or air candies now but we don't need them to evolve things so I do this now I have a dumb fossil I do this helix fossile and old amber so I have all the fossils now I can hop off this ledge that's a little bit far away and get my encounter so I'm looking for a Bellsprout and then me health in this grass and again I'll be using these some to try and get them quickly the elf can be a little bit annoying because it's slots that it's in are pretty spread apart so it makes it pretty hard to accurately be something for it but I'll do my best the way that that item mutation works is that where the item was placed corresponds to the location in memory of the x-coordinate of your of your of you so moving around after putting an item there changes what it is that's close good ok so again it's only a 15% slot the one that I was aiming for so it's kind of difficult to accurately go for it luckily that didn't roll me too much I've been trolled here for a few minutes before alright so now we're gonna do a glitch this is probably the newest addition to the run as far as major glitches is concerned this is a glitch called overworld red bar so if I use 9f I can pull up my menu in battle and fly away now before we see the true effects of this I'm gonna do another pointer minute right here [Music] so now by talking to this guy suddenly he wants to sell me a Magikarp even though that's normally the guy by mount moon all right and now you get to see the effects of overworld red bar it basically skips all the cries in the overworld so I'm able to use this PC way faster than its intended to red bar is normally of what's used to save time during battles if you recall when his bull tore up self-destructed then he moved that to slot one after he evolved it so he had an electrode with very low HP in the front of his party when he's catching pokémon so what that does is it skips electrode to cry when it comes into battle because there's a warning sound that's playing when you're low on HP and so all the other sounds such as Pokemon cries jingles you know when you catch a Pokemon it's cry death jingles all these sounds just the game just plays over them like the sound will appear but you will you won't have to pause you can just continue to play through the sound yeah that saves multiple minutes in both this run and and a glitchless run very important very cool gentleman mechanic I'm pretty sure red bar saves probably around 15 to 20 minutes in this run it's pretty ridiculous including over a red bar of course the effect continues because we exited the battle in a unintended way yeah you also notice I'm not evolving everything and the reason for that is this effect ends as soon as I evolve something so I wanted to get everything within one level of being evolved before I finish the glitch so now that I've evolved something I lose the effect of overworld red bar but luckily I was able to save a lot of time using those rare candies it's about 2.5 seconds faster per rare candy use when you're in the overworld red bar state so I used probably about 20 or 30 candies there so it saves about a minute which is really nice especially because it's cutting out from just mashing the a button ever Pokemon and using our candies over and over I don't know if you guys noticed it earlier but also China is a very Kenya on the media yeah it's also to revive the mute as opposed to using a revive or a pokémon center there's also used in which is a much less route for native team yeah yeah so now my Mew is also in red Thor so I'll be able to skip jingles with my Mew later which is really convenient and for any of you Pokemon fans out there who are not aware the rare candies reviving Pokemon is not a glitch it is in fact still in the game as of Gen 6 yeah we don't use any glitches here don't worry [Music] the reason we also like to have you for most of the run is because mu is the only Pokemon and Pokemon rather than blue that can learn both dig and fly wait I already change I did already change [Music] all right so now we're gonna go buy a few coin Pokemon let's see if my gambling's been improved since earlier all right here we go nice that's a lot of coins so when I did that box underflow earlier one of the things I did was I gave myself roughly 16,000 coins which is enough to buy everything here and it's pretty convenient on blue version again because on red version you wouldn't be able to buy everything with 16,000 coins but then pokemon blue you can so that's another reason that we run blue over red 'no porygon and pokemon red is 9999 oh yes pretty significant go ahead and evolve Clefairy in that arena now oh I have a weepinbell in my party too I should probably evolve that before I forget also have you had didn't notice that he also skipped dirty knee there's a reason for that later yeah [Music] all right it's your favorite Pokemon it's re on the wrong color though I hope it was good TVs alright so I'm going to use this poké flute that I got from my money back way long ago to wake up the Snorlax and that's the only reason that we need the poké flute we could get Snorlax through glitches but it's just pretty convenient that he's right here and getting the poké flute doesn't cost too much time we use some money manipulate for a super rod and we would have to use the super rod which has no RNG manipulation so it's a lot better now with the super rod rather doubt alright so you'll see right there when he caught Snorlax the jingle that plays for catching it didn't play and that's because his electrode was in red bar yeah red bar is when you're below about 21% HP to go above that then everything will play as normal [Music] all right so the seafoam we go and again luckily there's a bike right here this is one of the trolling your areas of the run because the encounter II is pretty well and that is an interesting one to get here eisah kiss me a Crabby on this floor is pretty slow it's level 29 it evolved is at 30 but it learned stomp at 30 so I'll have to sit through a level up move before I evolve it if I were to catch it on the other floor where it's more common it would not learn stomp and I would save about five or six seconds all right there's one of the two I need on this floor that's a good level too so I need Sybok and seal on this floor and then on the floor below I'm gonna need crabby and Staryu but I already got my cravings I just need starter you when they go there that floor okay come on nope so this is what I meant by the encounter it can be pretty trollee sometimes yeah that's gotta be late nice never mind so does that count toward your dollar hey there's a seal on the screen I got in them [Music] so whenever I send out the electric the cry is skipped but it also skips the cry in the Pokedex which is really nice so every time I catch a Pokemon I don't have to listen to it to cry alright just need to start you on this floor it's 25% and I got it first try it which is really nice I don't even have to be something for it [Music] so when shenanigans is catching Pokemon you might notice that master balls are in slot two and you never see the cursor move at all and this is because he has the down arrow pressed and when he presses the are held and when he presses the a button the game first inputs it down and then put the egg yeah and in the same frame it's super convenient for the run because every time I would normally have to use a master ball if that weren't the case I would have to like manually press down every time so it probably saves a pretty good chunk of time and there are all sorts of useful menuing techniques like that in this run and in the glitchless run you can do things like press B to get on your bike or to throw a Pokeball if it's in slot one you can like really quickly access an item in slot three with a technique called double inputting and it's got pretty much exclusive to Gen one that you can do all of that stuff and later gens it's basically you just need to time your inputs you make sure you don't go too fast but in this game it's a lot of technique which makes it a lot of fun to learn the game and play it I made a pretty big mistake not well not that big I have to scroll up a bit down to do that that's unfortunate I forgot I withdrew Bellsprout so again there's so many different variations with the route and because I call them muck I had to evolve my Bellsprout earlier than I'm usually going to I usually evolve it as my last Pokemon actually so I've actually evolved it earlier and because of that I completely forgot and I need to deposit it here permanently because I'll never be returning to box 3 after this point so there's four Pokemon in here that I still need to evolve some snow withdraw all four of them and then change boxes and they don't have to return to that box again so a lot of this game is like optimizing your boxes and then using whatnot so one of the things I've recently started looking into was optimizing the boxes because that's where a lot of time loss comes from all right next up is me to cave don't be electrode perfect so electrode Enright's you were very terrible encounters to get here because they're not only higher level than you they're faster than you yeah so when you're slower than a Pokemon it's about a 50% chance to escape it's pretty much this yes or no yeah so if I get an electrode or a Raichu they will probably destroy me right you can paralyze you and electrode has self-destruct explosion and Swift so three of his moves kill you luckily we have decent manipulations so the chance of those encounters is lesson to those still there yeah but the issue with that is it's right next to the encounters that I actually won so if I go slightly early on marowak I'll actually get in Elektra this is actually Magneton again isn't it okay good slightly late which is exactly what I want [Music] it's really hard to track the D some through multiple cycles so if I don't get the encounter within the first couple cycles it becomes very difficult for me to get the encounter I'm looking for luckily I got the two that I need here because I caught a magnet on earlier usually the B or C sends a tempura is the one where the spots are not consecutive yeah so there are encounters between this one you're looking for and one of the big culprits of that was again CFM islands so the first slot is on the floor I was looking for seal inside of it is seal followed by Psyduck followed by seal followed by size' so I need one of them I pretty much have to aim for a gap that includes the other Pokemon so it becomes really difficult to do something for them now these consistently all right so I'm gonna catch probably a couple more Pokemon here my goal is to get five or six Pokemon that I would need to evolve otherwise here I'm gonna go to the basement yet your stomp I'm gonna go to the basement and the reason for that is all the Pokemon and all the different floors are different and the Pokemon on the basement are the common ones are dodrio Kadabra and venomoth and I don't have any of those so it's a lot better for me to go down there there's my waters [Music] okay so yeah I do evolve all of these here because I'll be depositing them pretty soon and I don't scroll past my rare candies again all right so this is another tax pointer manipulation glitch and we're gonna use it to get a golem I [Music] was at the old route that was them that'd be pretty recently rerouted this game I think it was the day before I came here actually we have a pretty major reroute so it's a little bit learning the route again that's pretty common with this category that we reroute it quite often all right so now the middle floor best-case scenario you get a dodrio that is actually better than the durian nevermind that's best case scenario so I would normally have to look for ride-on on the basement floor but now that I just caught it I don't need to which is really nice [Music] all right come on [Music] don't okay I thought that was gonna be late if you get an encounter pretty late there's still electrodes on this floor but they're pretty rare but the way that the encounter table is lined up doji is the most common and then after it in the D some is the most rare pokémon and electrode is one of those so it was moderately close to electrode luckily I didn't have to see it all right this should be venomoth hopefully or Cadabra one of the two that's really good so I'm done with me to cave now [Music] so there's a 35% gap that I was aiming for their Cadabra and venomoth for the two so I only needed one of the two of them so you can just Jack through the wall right to the ladder and we are done with me to cave once I get to you two now he's way on the other side and I don't have surf so this might be a bit of a problem you would think there is but I got an account on the way down and that's the best thing I could've gone wow this is going really well really good me to cave so far pretty much any of the caves can be the most Rolly parts of the run you have to be encounter rates darn you can jingle skip Mewtwo's cry similarly to how red bar works it's still trying to play the music from the dungeon and I can overrate his cry when the dungeon music plays if I can get to him fast enough but that wasn't the case here I think you need to be within three steps normally together and I was not so I missed it alright so next up is Victory Road [Music] did some setup for the future now okay so that's the horror for this trick you can toss this master balls and you don't crash normally if you toss items and you're roaming you crash the game this is probably the hardest area in the game to get all the encounters I need because there's a pretty low encounter II combined it the fact that none of the Pokemon are pretty common they all have 15 to 20 percent slots as I'm aiming for so when you're doing decent manipulation a higher or lower encounter rate is generally high encounter it is preferred but they both have advantages and disadvantages a higher encounter rate means when you're looking for encounters you're more likely to get it but a low encounter rate means that on your initial encounter you got more information about what the dicen was initially so you can be more precise and get and be more likely to get the encounter that you want if you do get the encounter yeah right so this is the final legendary we're getting [Music] all right so the last three Pokemon the need are onyx Geodude and Zubat onyx is 30% on this floor so I kind of wanna look for it here but this area has a higher encounter rate so it's a lot better to be up here when they need an encounter there's Gaea dude I'm probably gonna take a risk here or small risk at least again it's not too time-consuming to take a lot of risks with your D summing because if you get an encounter it gives you more information about where you are in the cycle yes I got rid of the rare encounters I was trying to get onyx on this floor and onyx is pretty rare as you mentioned before it's a belief 15% on this floor it's 30% on the other floor so I'll head down there now but getting this grapplers not a problem all of the encounters before the onyx if I were to go early would have been fine to get because I would need to evolve this Pokemon anyway this is actually worth it for me to say on this floor now that's unfortunate this could be onyx but it's close good all right I have one more pokemon left on this area and that is Zubat zubats actually the troll iasts of the four so hopefully it doesn't get me too bad a common theme of this category is it goes pretty well and then one pokemon decides to ruin your day and this could actually be Zubat never mind I might do a safer strategy for Zubat or actually no I can't because I don't have golbat that barely missed if he had achill about something that he could do is do the usual map warp and end up right outside of the mount moon Pokemon Center and he could just walk them out moon and we all know that that's the only thing about moon yeah all right this is close hopefully it's too bad it's onyx again so to buy this directly between Geodude and onyx so I'm pretty much just going Geodude onyx geodude's onyx getting kind of unlucky should I should be looking for it on the top floor to be honest now that I think of it higher encounter is probably what I need here and now I've lost track of the D some you could just give it to me as 15% nope alright so this shouldn't be too hard to get off of this come on barn I'll do the faster bike thing [Music] sorry there he got an encounter on the turn frame said he noticed that he was standing still and got an encounter yeah and this is really unfortunate this is just a problem that occurs sometimes he's get really unlucky when you're trying to do something for something this is close again come on so there is a very difficult technique to get a slightly to get slightly more encounter checks than what he's doing right now he's just moving back and forth on the bike which gets you about one check every eight frames if you move and then standstill all right on the bright side of his only Zubat this run I've had runs that are just like every pokemon will just troll you it can be pretty bad sometimes so yeah so if you move one square and stop and then turn around yeah and if you do that stop if you stop for a few enough frames then you'll get slightly more encounter checks but it's a pretty marginal benefit for a much higher execution cost so he's choosing to not do it yeah now I'm gonna go ahead and say you can do a few donations here but I'm gonna call for a little bit of serious time afterwards because this is probably one of the hardest menuing sections in definitely all of Pokemon but it's it's very difficult it's about 10 to 15 minutes of menus and if I make a single mistake I crash the game so is pretty risky [Music] donations we have some all rights few business for me thanks first-gen best gen kreygasm dang well done okay alright so here we go this is a very difficult menuing section anyone who's run this category can attest to that but it allows us to catch pretty much any pokemon in the game there's some exceptions all right here we go so I'm going to snag this item called four eight four eight is also it's called rocket rocket as you'll see you soon rocket rocket alright it begins it's a very difficult part of the run I'm pretty much going to be doing an infinite set up to catch a lot of different pokemon and they'll all be pokemon that are very hard to get otherwise so that's the reason why this is so useful so I'm going to turn this Blastoise into an oddish as you can tell pretty easily see alright and then I'm gonna throw another ball and I'll catch it did Oh which is really nice cuz it's completely free for me to catch this and then when I use eight eight its renders another battle this is a glitch that we call lg fly it stands for lol glitch fly which is another variant of cool trainer glitch which we'll see later on and pretty much fight if I use the wrong item or if I catch the wrong poke one at any point in time during this glitch I'll crash the game so it is very difficult so I'm probably be focusing during most of this [Music] so all throughout this you'll see him going to a specific item slot and throwing away a specific amount of items each Pokemon has an index item that doesn't actually match up with its normal pokedex item it's like index number one is right on so you'll see him reduce the amount of items in that slot to match the index item at the index number and that's how he gets the specific Pokemon yeah so for example the one I'm about to get is Charmander which is 176 so you'll notice that the quantity has changed to 176 well it's just like weird symbol but that is a 17 whoops [Music] so you would think I would just catch every Pokemon in the game using this but it's actually pretty slow for each Pokemon it's about 50 seconds each and I also can't get any like every Pokemon from this and I also can't get more than 17 as the limit per round 15 is the real limit we can get 17 with a few exceptions [Music] okay so this is where I get to do another trick [Music] all right so now I'm gonna use a 4 8 4 8 which is that a them I brought up I've used it a few times already but it has a secondary effect I can use it for if I flash it before I use 88 in this menu coming up I can actually catch the poke one that appears so I'm going to use that to catch one of these gara doses and the reason for that is is pretty slow to evolve magikarp I would take about a minute of using our candies on them so I can catch the scare does now this is once again we're being precise with your inputs comes into play if you actually physically use for 8 for it you crash the game yeah so we're actually just flashing it so we're pressing a you're seeing the user toss yeah and then we back out of it because if you use it you just crash yeah instant crash same with 80 at certain time same with 9 at certain times there's a lot that can go wrong here but this is all totally planned and part of the game oh yes it's in the guidebook [Music] all right so there's knitter and mail from earlier I would have had they're out on the fly that knitter and Mail have I caught it in Safari Zone and I there was too much other stuff I was having to ride on the fly I couldn't mentally do it all so I just decided to run away from him [Music] so you can fight a lot a lot of this information on catching mom for pull one red and blue on Pokemon severe INSCOM yeah I'll give a shout-out for that later sorry by the way it will crash if twitch chat goes to it don't panic just go later today yeah pokemon speedrun calm it's a fantastic site for this these kinds of speedruns hold on Alakazam one two three four five six seven eight if you didn't know how to count before you will after this drawing trust me alright good that was right okay there's a little bit worried about that okay halfway there [Music] this is a very intense part of the run normally especially on the world record pace runs because again the single mistake and it's just over [Music] I'm also used to running this with notes and I don't have any notes here so it makes it a little bit harder as well ken good I didn't crash there which means they did the first part right there's crash checks if the game crashes I probably did something wrong yeah this game is held together by duct tape and we're kind of treading on the lines with the switch right so it's interesting to note about that 8-8 item he's using you can only get it in that seafoam island basement that we were in yeah that's the only place we visit in the run that we can get it and pretty sure there's a few other places it's the only practical place so to count time so if he had missed it then we wouldn't have gone back to seafoam which obviously would have been time loss yeah it's not too terrible to go back for it it's not like some of the other items you can forget we're crashing the game yeah [Music] okay that's the hard part well there's one more part to it [Music] good okay for more Pokemon to do this way or for more main ones we do a bunch of four eights for eight year this Mewtwo can actually out speed new come on John Cena get the way he never runs from a fight okay we got it [Music] surprise them you didn't just run from us [Music] all right - three to go now I think two to go yeah two to go actually so I'm almost done with this [Music] this for that got a Caterpie and wheedle if any of you watch my stream I talk to myself a lot when entering this quench so all right Wanda go [Music] but don't worry guys if you like watching this glitch we get to do it a second time yeah the second round is not even close to as long as this one is I believe it's seven minutes long this one's about eleven so it's a lot faster and we only do nine Pokemon I believe huh this gets us execute and then all I have left after that is Ekans and look at song hopefully I didn't forget any Pokemon through this if I did I'll have to come up with a backup for them I have a few backups for something Pokemon but not all of them also side note if he misses any Pokemon throughout this run everybody on the couch will donate $5 for each one I should just forget about 30 of them save the world it's for charity it is [Music] okay one more all I have to do now is remember to flash for eight for eight and we're all good so I won't forget for a 40 all right I do a swap here but I don't remember what I do so I'm not gonna do it I'll do it later [Music] and I scroll down so I'm going to change my map to be Vermillion so that I can save the trainer fly that's on this map alright and we're done with the hard part so that's good yeah it's a very very scary part of the one so it's really nice to get out of the way alright so by saving and resetting there I've set the stack that's probably too in-depth but I basically when I was doing that I was moving the stack pointer and I can eventually move it to a point that if I move it any farther I'll crash the game so by saving and quitting I put it back to its original position so I'm just going to evolve a few more things here so if there's any more donations now is a pretty good time awesome we pokemon here and then after that this is pretty much it for the wild pokemon I'll be catching I'll be visiting diglettz cave and one more route after this so we're pretty much done with the D some in the wild encounters and then it'll be pretty much purely glitched Pokemon from there on out we also bought those burn heals way a long time ago because we need to cure our ditto because it is currently status with every status in the game but by using a burn heal it just goes away so you can see it was poisoned but it went away after I used the burn heal on it she's gonna come with us and now she's gone actually wait alright so I'm gonna be setting up for a glitch later called cool trainer a lot of you know it if you watch my stream is cool because it is a cool that kills a lot of runs we get four cool trainer Pokemon in this run and the glitch itself when we use it is completely rng dependent on whether or not it works and it's pretty brutal so what they did right there was a transform to the rather Kate and then swapped two of its moves around do though only those transform but Radek eight in those four moves so I can switch the radicalz moves around but when it looks and sees it like what happened to do those moves it thinks they switch transform with a non-existent second move which gives us the cool trainer move as our first move so our Dido can no longer transform but he can make other Pokemon transform which is really convenient [Music] alright so now I'm Ward be some force is good for doesn't record faces II give co clutches in the chat I need a Pidgey here too because i didn't catch one earlier see I remember things all right so I'll look elite next time as well [Music] I'll take a risk here nice this could be Pidgey I though it should be really good alright that's good too if I missed I got PG if I hit it I got Pidgeotto so win one [Music] all right so the last thing I need here is Pidgeotto a tango would be nice but not necessary that could be tango actually nope that's the rises again so the Rattata is not this one I just completely messed up the right at level 21 is right before the slots I'm aiming for so this is probably the right it's a 21 so this is being kind of it's right before the slots I'm looking for which means I went slightly too early oh man be really nice via the way that just make Pokemon appear but so don't have one of those so there's my pity I know so we're done with that I'm going to go for a Tangela because the D some lines up really well right now for me to get one if I'm pretty lucky if I can get an encounter within about 11 steps ik has a chance so this could be tangle oh it should be really nice it's the right stuff okay so I won't go for tangle enough I am gonna get one more poke one here whoops won't hopefully they don't get an encounter in the grass good so I don't have surf but I'm able to still go on the water here and get my encounter so this will be a tentacle it ranges on the from level 5 to or no with 40 being a 1% and that saves a lot of time actually I can't believe that work oh man I did about seven or eight practice runs this week and the highest level I got was 10 so that should give you an idea of how rare it is to get a good one [Music] okay sorry Pidgey and sorry arrived at huh and sorry eradicate I need one more box phase for later [Music] all right so this is gonna be round 2 of the glitch I also have to scroll down because I'm outside that for 8:40 they done becomes a nasty click item click items or items that we have to like mash the B button through in order to advance past them in our item menu a few items act that way for 8 for 8 being one of them oops the thing that's really annoying about click items is you have to press B a specific number of times to get past them but if you press it too many times you actually download the item menu and when you bring it up you have to match B through it again with y'all hitting it too many times they can be really really really nasty all right so this is round 2 of the glitch it's not as long as the first round but it's still pretty difficult but if there's any donations you can kind of read them during this alright $10 from random skills from watching agdq from the very start I was amazed at how active everyone is both during and after the speedrun and I've got a question for the runner why Bulbasaur also can someone explain saving and killing animals I've heard it from past speedruns and even throughout the week I'll answer that really quickly that has to do with a super metroid incentive and you can find that at games then quick calm and our donation tracker to see where that sitting yes all of you guys can explain Bulbasaur is pretty simple Bulbasaur achieves a special stat that we need if we do one strat and the other strap which is what he did in this run revolves around the amount of pipi that he has so we need a pokemon that has a 40 PP move and so that's growl so that means that squirtles out because he has tackle and tailwind and then we also need to set up tackle which has 35 I believe so we gotta set that to 16 so it's just a PP management thing yeah Charmander doesn't learn and burn till level 9 and we need three moves so that's the reason we pick Bulbasaur Charmander even though both of them would work yeah it's no stop them all starter for both strats actually yeah even though it's the worst at combat of the three at least on the rival fight you could technically do it with a Charmander if you get specific DVS but it's such an unlikely chance that it would not be marathon family and we would still be here waiting for him to get the traitor a tas of this game we get a one in sixty five thousand chance of getting very specific DVS on there Charmander and then they would be able to do the glitch that way so they would use Charmander but it would be pretty not marathon safe we've been throwing around the term DVS a lot thick sorry and you can explain that one yeah it's so TVs is you know short terms it's just how good your staff is it's a value that ranges from zero to 15 so at level 100 a DV of zero is going to be 30 points let's say it's keys aren't favorite Pokemon that DB of zero is going to be thirty stat points less than it DB of 1515 being perfect so it's basically the growth rate of your stat and they're essentially identical to IVs from gen 3 and onward except that TVs are basically half of the IV so a DV of 0 is an IV of 0 DV of 15 is an IV of 30 and the newer games do still have DVS they just determine different things like nature gender yeah [Music] awesome thank you for the explanation we have $20 from Prince Nocturne $20 for the first time I've ever heard claps for Zubat showing up alright this is the second last for 8 for 8 variant pokemon in the run it's pretty convenient that there's only 2 in round 2 compared to 7 in round 1 I think it's 6 in round 1 so it's a lot easier to than the other one there's a lot of math involved too because I need to be tossing to the specific values of the Pokemon something that a lot of you might have noticed is he's running away from pretty much almost every other counter those are actually what we call ditto eyes and counters um they're basically just dittos if you catch them it's a Ditto it's pretty much useless for us you can tell because they usually have messed up hit point values like that tickle it with basically a billion hit points and they also have status and it's usually poison that you see I don't know if I've seen anything else besides poison yeah then you choose asleep there's a few other ones like that [Music] what's next I did not get a tango let's get one now so all the times there will be encounters that I can catch in other places but if I don't get them I'll just catch them during this glitch for example Chauncey I was able to skip but tango I was not because I did not catch a tank lot earlier I was really unfortunate out tangela is that it gives them missing now as this smoked one here so I get to sit through missing though encounter now [Music] okay just a few more here something else you might have noticed as he's doing his menu in a specific way he has to have the specific items in specific positions on the menu for example he has his 4:8 for it on top when he uses 9f if he had done it any other way he stands a chance of crashing the game yeah most of the time it doesn't crash but there's a few times that it does it also changes the TV's of the Pokemon as I'm catching and they think the level is well there's a few things that changes alright so one left one last pokemon here and that will be Jigglypuff all right so this will be the last poke when we catch with this glitch we catch usually about 25 of them this way and again this is much more consistent than using cool trainer you will probably see why in a moment [Music] okay and one more for eight for eight Pokemon so once again I'm not gonna forget [Music] all right so all I have to do now is run away from this use for eight or not use because that would crash the game look at for eight for eight and then use the eight so it's pretty complicated with the menus and remembering everything but it went pretty well this time okay so that's the last time I have to do this glitch and then I just have to do a little setup on this guy and then we'll be good you look excited it's your favorite Pokemon yes this one is [Music] I was getting thrown off when I didn't get the master balls for my trainer ID slot all those slots have values for like different pieces of memory so well done that's probably by far the scariest part of the run because it's different than failing d some because if you fail at these time you lose 10 seconds if you fail that glitch you lose 10 minutes all right so now I can just fly away and we will start pretty much the last section of the run so he's mentioned cool trainer a few times and it's a glitch that can and most likely will fail everyone on the couch is also donating five bucks for every cool trainer fail so we will be very poor tonight sorry for Zubat by the way Peter you're gonna get hit the worst so if anybody here loves us and doesn't want us to starve there's a chance we might not be able to get pizza all right so I'm just evolving a few more Pokemon here if Thank You etiquette he's another catch of all Runner super cool guy it's etiquette EDTA ket Seneca has this habit of getting a better time than Shen when there's a reroute so which one always works more often cool trainer or diesel oh boy that's a tough one need I endure the only thing that always works is crashing the game and you accidentally use four eight four eight [Music] we had 151 dollars from anonymous $1 for every Pokemon caught if this is read an additional $1 for each minute under the estimate and of course kill the animals we have 100 dollars from anonymous this is to Minecraft all achievements so my son gets to see an even more impressive run and just as a quick update on that for the all achievements been so busy sorting through donation comments here we are currently at three thousand nine hundred and twelve dollars out of 12,500 so that has ways to go but of course you can continue to donate and then we have twenty dollars from TM PP 88 Wow day nine has some godlike luck having all of these ridiculously rare Pokemon just show up when he's rummaging through his backpack or casually biking through walls alright just a few more to evolve here and then we'll get started on the cool trainer section of the run so once again the cool trainer glitch we've mentioned that it's rng base and it can be pretty bad at time so we haven't really mentioned how exactly it works this is a pretty long-winded explanation but the pretty easy way to think of it is I'll go to a specific tile open my menu and then base off of the tile that I was standing on and the tiles around it the next time I you don't use but view the cool trainer glitch and better the cool trainer move in battle it'll it'll turn the Pokemon I'm battling against into a certain Pokemon so use that for for Pokemon total there's really four more Pokemon we need to get through the glitch and they're all version exclusives as well [Music] should have room for everything in here or at least close that's right withdraw these two there's got a double check something I think I did as a mistake earlier nope didn't make it okay have to be very careful if I accidentally were to withdraw one of those super glitchy used to be Pokemon they were Pokemon that we caught earlier but we kind of destroyed them when we did that glitch so withdrawing them typically again crashes the game common theme alright somebody goes the mark I'm going eventually go to the mark and be good at this tile put ditto in the front of my team I'm gonna walk the me to cave or me to cave stiglitz cave you may think it would be faster for me the bike here but I can't reopen my menu between the tiles the tile that I'm using for the cool trainer glitch and the tile that I'm getting the Pokemon so I'm in the look for an encounter here [Music] and I'm going to continuously click down undo those moves and hope it eventually goes blank and I can catch this used to be Diglett that's now I'm missing now they told you not to catch missing now as a kid but I'm going to go look at its stats and this will allow me to get a horse ink which is a Pokemon that's really hard to get otherwise also dig let's backwards now and I got kind of injured I think ball so this will be horsey and then finally I'm going to catch it Diglett [Music] watch me get Dugtrio it's 5% it's happened before it doesn't lose time but it's just silly when it happens all right there's my Diglett all right just a few more Pokemon to catch now it was actually really important that he opened his menu then because if he tried to leave he would have actually crashed the game yeah so I was just gonna be nyet to get on a bike there because we had to open the menu anyway yeah it's pretty much a dart board when you're gonna crash the game you'll just like do something and though hope the game died all right so I need all three Pokemon than this route Drowsy is actually the best one to get first because it's the least common the other two that can appear on this route are sand true and Spiro I'm gonna go to this tile and once again flashed my Pokemon if I get any encounter that's not drowsy I'm gonna do the cool trainer glitch on it so I got Spyro so just catch it now and then now it's only a 40% chance that they get something that they are that they need which will be sand true [Music] okay so we just need Santeria now that's convenient okay um if I would have gotten the two or if I would have gotten two encounters before I got this and true I would just be something for it after I finished the two cool trainers but it's convenient getting it now because now I don't need to worry about it that's actually the last D some in the run which I didn't even have to use I catch no more wild Pokemon I only catch glitched Pokemon from here on out so I'm completely done with that so anyway once I get an encounter I can begin the second to cool trainers all right so here we go [Music] again I just got click down and hope it works not gonna work for me sometimes I try and coax it out by backing out of the van that the Moose yep see sneaky all right so again it's completely RNG when that works and I guess me have been in that like oven music cuts out too right so now for this hitmonchan we have a saying that cool trainer always works low and this is what we mean by that cool trainer just always seems to work when I'm in this line of tiles I've yet to have one fail so it'd be great if it happened now but there's no data supporting it also day 9 is all over the screen all right so that's hitmonchan and then we have one more cool trainer which is right here once again Google trainer always works low Hey always works Lomond I'll never figure that out but anyway that's the end of the cool trainers that actually rent we okay went really well yeah I can't English right now for those of you wondering how poorly that can go I've had runs that I had one run in particular that was seven minutes ahead of world-record going into the split and I was 19 minutes behind at the end so it can be very very brutal we used to do a lot more we only do those four now in old variant of the route used to do 26 at one point on but then we found that glitch that I did earlier it's the LGI glitch and that saves a lot of time and a ton of consistency so it's really nice having an execution based glitch rather than rng based one all right so this is gonna be the last Pokemon we actually catch in the entire run everything else I will be evolving for this is actually my favorite part of the run as well it's very cool [Music] I'll just kind of let the glitch speak for itself [Music] [Music] [Music] and that's how we get your kini all right so if I've done everything right so far I should have every single Pokemon in the game or at least a pre evolution to it I've also currently in the overworld red bar state because I went into a battle with that wild Bellsprout and used 9f a my views and earth bar so it conveniently also gives me the overworld red bar state so this guy gives you the fossil Pokemon it's just a very convenient way for me to get the three fossils though you might also know this is after I turn in the helix fossile to him it doesn't go away that's because I have a few hundred helix fossils and a few hundred dome fossils so if I wanted to get a few box fools of AMA Knights I probably could [Music] okay he is all over the place so I always give him Hilux first because there was one run I gave him the dome fossil twice and I lost a lot of time to it so I've learned to just give him one first and just keep it consistent I'm also gonna do the overall red bar PC menu here but what's pretty interesting is I pretty much have everything from the overall red bars that could possibly get so this would be kind of confusing okay you're done I made a huge mistake actually um [Music] you Oh how do in the play this okay I made a mistake it's not that big of a deal my everyone at bars are really good actually so it doesn't cause too much time it'll probably cost me about a minute though not too bad I'm supposed to evolve the Pokemon when they jack through the wall right before I did the dirty knee but they forgot to evolve them and if I would have deposited that the em like I almost did I wouldn't have been able to evolve it and yes that em can't evolve [Music] okay Oh even walked awesome if you guys didn't see that he can actually moonwalk pretty rarely I get it maybe like one in ten runs I would say all right so again the overworld red bar menus rare candies are a lot faster and I'm gonna evolve or put everything within one candy of evolving before I evolve anything alright yeah this is pretty much the end I have everything I need so I'm just evolving been able to put into this game and really really breaking it to what we have today I made another mistake I have 255 leaf stones right now I should not have 255 beep stones I'm gonna do it backup strat for that [Music] alright so coming up is the moment of truth and what I mean by that is after I finish evolving these Pokemon I'm going to look at my pokedex and if it does not say 151 that means the whole couch has to donate including myself so hopefully it does or hopefully not I guess you hear that he doesn't want to donate to charity good I know now you know what I purposely forgot a few okay most likely it's just something I forgot to evolve that happens all the time um hopefully it's not something like on a tourist that would be really hard to get otherwise alright here we go uh-oh aha I found it see yeah I know what I did okay I deposited it because I would have Swiss withdraw at first I deposited it because it was faster for me to evolve the fossil so just forgot about it because it was lower down [Music] okay so we're gonna walk over here because we still have to fight the Elite Four luckily Pidgeot is pretty strong so we should be able to get through it pretty easily just gotta give it four candies cuz Pidgeot obviously will feel a lot better with the Elite Four okay so that should be 151 Pokemon and the timing for this ends when we get to the credit sequence in the Hall of Fame so we have to obviously go through the Elite Four for that right [Music] I made a small mistake so I have to do a backup that I've never done before [Music] all right we're in the Hall of Fame time is coming up in just a sec yeah I actually get to control over this nice foot pedal alright so time is when oak rates the Pokedex and says I have 151 Pokemon so right there and wonder cred let's begin [Music] then I just run hose the final time on that one 5856 Wow sub-q that's crazy especially for a marathon huh that's that's a ridiculously good time for a marathon there really wasn't much that went wrong yeah there's a couple of trillion counters and that's about it yeah pretty much do you bat was the big one but other than that it was pretty clean a couple little mistakes here and there but with this kind of category that's always going to be happening yeah don't pick up on on Pidgey strats yeah all right thank you guys so much for watching this Yeah dude pokemon's early releases were so.... barebones working and low level. So many thin 'walls' that were proven easy to break out of with glitches.

For a good few years now, (And a really good watch if you're into this shit too) TheZZAZZGlitch has been going over, and making detailed documentation about many different findings/uses/cool things/cross-game hacking and contamination using the classic Pokemon games, as well as going over different arbitrary execution methods to make things pretty interesting.

His name is based on the game-memory and save-state destroying glitch of the same name
