i'm back more pokemon brilliant diamond i ended the last stream saying i needed a little bit of lunch i got the lunch and i got one goal on my mind beat the gym very quickly so then i can get great balls so then i can catch cool pokemon in the underground and find 500 statues will i be spending the entire stream in the underground yes if that gets you excited to watch the stream know if you want to leave the stream whatever one of those options works out best for me having you watch that's what i want to hear gardenia you better go back there and let me okay good okay let me battle lay advertise a video or stream of let's buy actual cool things i feel like the fun for chat is to absolutely waste my money on the stupidest things in the world having friends buy stuff that actually youtube for a while of like okay like i will stream maybe like 300 people will come in and out of the stream and that's it it's really cool that you know just by making another channel and kind of having the vods live their own specific place that people have really enjoyed everything going on it's i don't know i really do appreciate it so thank you [Music] then you can make a casket jack i pictures of me like when i met jack i met him at pokethon and at pokeython which was a big charity stream i think we raised like 60 000 for direct relief it was a wonderful experience one of my best experiences in the pokemon community but one of like the ways to get money is i mean i i had to dress up as a clown and get like clown makeup like there are very real pictures out there me just fully dressed up as a clown for charity arguably funnier pictures than jack like going out of his way to find a way to wear a maid costume and someone turning mikey bald well no okay mikey bald's very funny but that wasn't really like on him so like i if people don't want to use them i'm not complaining but it's it is released to the public and they just maybe had does has tyler not seen them i don't come from a different platform 270 viewers that's freaking crazy to get partner you need like 75 average you're 70. that's like an extra 200 are you kidding me that's awesome so now i appreciate that gonna absolutely love the battle backgrounds i would think i mean they're really freaking beautiful the coolest in any pokemon game i think the art like in the general world is like similar just like a ds game it's on the switch i feel like there's a decent amount of quality of life improvements like you don't actually have to teach pokemon hms which is nice but the underground there's so many new pokemon you can find so early into the game beyond like the digging stuff which is really fun the fact that you can like just have a really different and unique team like pretty early into the game is really cool like right now in the underground i've gotten a swinub a murkrow and a crow gunk and i have only beaten two gyms i also from the mystery gif have a manafee on my team and an old lady gave me a jirachi not everyone wants to play the game with legendaries i've never played with a jirachi or a manafee in a regular pokemon game i think it's one of the coolest things in the world just be running around with a jirachi so i i'm really so far enjoying everything this game has to offer you can also get a free mew that one i mean i guess mu is as exciting as any other one that yeah i considered my editor was like john you should do a like a shiny only play through like that would be like a really cool video people would enjoy i saw how long it would take to get a shiny starter pokemon and i said ah no maybe not i mean i shout out to anyone that sits there and does that because there is always the chance that you're the person that finds it quickly and it could be worth it but i i don't think i don't think i'm that guy i'm not that guy i'm just not that guy maybe you're that guy i'm not that guy do miss digging with a stylist at some points i mean i actually it's funny that kind of that thank you thank you thank you um yeah no so i went to college originally i was going to do something with history that was my favorite subject and i just i realized eventually that as much as i loved uh history i i didn't had there was no jobs that i really wanted to do with history and i'd really loved youtube youtube was something that some people were doing uh as a job full-time and that was like the beginning of me really thinking like man i'd really love to try youtube but i was gonna get a you know i was gonna get a college degree i wasn't gonna bank on youtube so i kind of like merged interests i was like okay i'm pretty smart i've done really well in high school let me do computer science i have really good ideas maybe i could like you know design a game or you know be like the guy kind of designing for coding and obviously i'd need to know how to code and maybe i'd you know end up being the person coding myself so i did that for two years and after the two years i realized uh computer science was not my thing it just was not the major i should have switched that was really stupid it was not the major for me um i really did not like coding i knew coding would be a means to an end but i didn't realize i would dislike it as much as i did so i switched then to mis management information systems which was basically just a combination of computer science and business together so even though i switched majors because i had done so many aps in high school and i'd already taken so many computer science classes enough of it was able to switch over to mis i was able to graduate on time which was really cool um and i got a degree in mis which i was really happy with because it was still computer sciencey i learned about coding and databases and making websites and like a bunch of other stuff but i was able to get a bunch of business classes in there because at that point i knew i was going to try doing youtube full-time i now do youtube full-time i'm going to be doing this for the foreseeable future and it's like you create your own business in a sense right it's something that keeps you know growing and expanding so having some business you know classes that was actually honestly one of the smarter things i've ever done with schooling of just being realistic of i know what i'm going to do let me make sure this degree will actually play a role in um what i end up doing so that's what i did for yield college does youtube pay healthy enough um i mean at this point yes like at this point yes i did youtube for a really long time and i did youtube full-time for a while uh for like for the majority of the time i did youtube i lived paycheck to paycheck i always was able to pay rent and all my bills but it was very stressful for a while at this point i mean you know the strike i'm a pretty decent sized streamer which is exciting you know in itself but even like when i upload a video i mean that they get hundreds of thousands of views i'm able to get a sponsor for most videos which i'm very fortunate to be able to get and like there's so many ads watched in the videos it does pay pretty well but it it's something that took a really long time to get to so the reason i answer it that way is i don't ever want to answer like does it pay well and just say yes it does really well because it's done really well after a lot of years of grinding and a lot of a lot of like pretty like honestly some tough tough times and really stressful times so i wouldn't ever want anyone to get the idea of like oh youtube is this awesome thing that i'll do it i'm gonna be really successful it's gonna be super easy i'm gonna make a lot it's gonna be great because you could but the way i got there was almost almost stubbornly never giving up and really really working my butt off working like 12-hour days sometimes longer seven days a week really really grinding and probably putting too much into it eventually it worked out and now things are really great but don't ever ever start content creation and think this is going to be easy like this is a get rich quick scheme because boy it is not youtube is a weird job though like almost all people try it but it's a pain doing it youtube's an interesting one because when i try i don't know what i tried when i started youtube no one made money on youtube so i really like i fell in love with it and then i slowly saw people start to make little bits of money from it and it was just such a cool thing to be a part of and see and i just i really fell in love with everything about youtube and once i had fallen in love with youtube then it became a thing where oh my god this could be a job i was like hook line and sinker i don't know if at this point like i like i don't know if i started now if i'd have the same thing there was something so kind of like magical of like being in this youtube world and then finding out well you've already been like fully in like wait a minute this is this could be a thing what do you even mean by that when did i start youtube i started youtube um sophomore year of high school in the winter i am 26 now i think like 11 years ago is honestly when i started at this point i think it was like a full 11 years which is crazy ah man [Music] i wish i started way back i wanted to do with soul links like six years ago moxie what you've been able to do is i mean i don't know i mean we have moxa we we should at some point just have a call and get to know each other better i love talking to a little bit with pokey s p stuff but you know what i'd love to get to know you a little bit more if you ever had time because i want to just throw some really nice things your way of i have really loved seeing what you've done with pokemon youtube pokemon youtube i've done it for so freaking long so few people jump into the scene and do anything different and unique and like what you've done is just been so what to do with this information i've been doing youtube for 11 years for like nine of those years i was a high level singles competitive battler none of my success has anything to do with my skill in pokemon i spent nine years becoming one of the best battling pokemon youtubers and quite literally none of that matters in my career and it's like it's not something i'm upset about but it's something that's really kind of messed with my head of like it's very weird to be like in like a sense like a like a professional like video game player but my skill in the game does it's not why anyone watches it's very interesting i don't know like 90 of the people that watch me have no idea i ever did anything with singles you always mean that you dumb stupid seat guy no i'm conca that's i'm a rushy ram [Laughter] me saying kaka i'm a reshiram is more successful than nine years of battling i remember those wbe seasons honestly the wbe seasons that was like the tail end no not not like that was the tail end of my competitive career by the wbe i was fully phoning it in i mean i still did pretty well in most of them but at that point i had stopped playing competitive pokemon at all beyond draft league um which you know is what it is i remember you sweeping a drive with a diggersby that was pretty fun he was not happy about that it was a pretty good moment he had beaten me many times before then that was that was a fun win how you say some pokemon names annoy m and j tv to know when this is true it is fanfee so you're not wrong [Music] i have one more collapse i guess no i i mean like i don't say this in like a negative way i just think it's like very it's very interesting you know like i guess i mean maybe it's just the person i am like having like a very tangible skill like it's easy for me to be like oh and like i've done well because i've you know i got good at this game it's very interesting instead be like well i'm doing well because i'm a goofball that apparently the reason i'm successful is i'm just really really goofy and sometimes i have creative ideas like it was very funny just so clearly he's like oh yeah wow he's a professional gamer like man you gotta be nasty at these games like i don't know about that i don't know a goofy a goofy little thing has this person never seen your content before well i mean most like most people in my real life that i'm friends with are not like pokemon fans so like people in my real life like family or friends they will check out to see what my channel's doing and sometimes they'll even like try to watch a video but they don't real they don't know pokemon enough to know what's going on right so it like they don't know pokemon enough to really discern like you know like oh this is good because the idea is fun and he is goofy it's like ah it's john doing a thing and apparently people like it that's pretty cool but if you had to be good at games to be successful gaming youtuber i would not have a job you know what hey if people though if they just are like wow these guys must just be really good they must be awesome i i'll take it [Laughter] you're famous cause of frogs well you know what hey i do want to do another frog only play through there's a i think the radical red people made a emerald hack that is similar and that is something that i um do want to attempt at some point i don't know when i'm going to do it but we'll see but actually i might as well ask here so chat uh i don't think i ever talked i didn't talk about this because i wasn't streaming so i did merch i was starting my own like merch line i was really excited i had a general concept that i really wanted to run with i worked with a merch company the first thing we did was fine and then i had come out with a frog design i can actually show you the design the design is fully done um i came out with a design let me see if i can find it real quick it'll all make sense in a second nope uh john art channel arts and then channel arts the seventh uh the logo was fully done so this was the second design i wanted to do the seventh logo again tree frog have it like sitting on a branch but the branch would be the eye have leaves in there you know make it kind of like you know like forest themed i love this bad news they sent me the merch in every single color was wrong the frog the eyes and the logo were wrong i ordered four pieces of merch for myself they were somehow everything was wrong so needless to say i have stopped working with this company i'm not gonna drag the company through the mud there's no reason to do that you know hey maybe they just messed up you know like a single order and things could have been fixed but for me i died that's i can't create a brand and really figure something out with mistakes that big but i do still want to bring back merch um and i do want to do a frog theme design whether it's that design or another one i have an idea that i am really excited about if i brought back merch and did like a limited run of merch sometime next year like would you guys be interested possibly in like something like that where i have something in my mind of there are some like old nba nfl logos that are like really cool they're more themed on like the animal or like dinosaur the mascot is made after would it be cool to have like a team frog like sports logo thing where it's just like let me find a good one like the raptor's old logo is sick raptors old [Music] logo and that's something i've been thinking about because i think this this is something i've always loved uh nope that's the wolfy okay raptors boop let's see [Music] am i a frog or am i competent all right like this i've always i always thought this was sick now obviously it's not gonna be a frog in a basketball outfit dribbling a basketball but like how cool would it be to come up with some creative design with frogs for like team frog like would that be a cool single drop like trying something because i think this is really cool it could be a unique thing it stands out it's not like people need like one thing that i feel really confident or uh really um passionate about is like when it comes to merch i don't want to be a youtuber that is giving out merch that just seems like youtuber merch i want it to be a logo that people really enjoy and it's like it's a shirt that makes them happy and maybe other people be like oh that's a cool shirt they don't have to love the shirt but if it was something like that like it was like a team frog like sports loco but in reality it just turns out to be a very cool logo based around a frog [Music] um i don't know i think that could be cool sports logo with a frog i mean i think it would i think it could be cool i don't know i'll have to figure it out merge stuff is complicated anytime you have to rely on other people that aren't you things can get very very iffy my entire senior year of college was group projects and i had to do almost the entire project for like three classes and it was hell and ever since then it's really been stuck in my head of like if you got to rely on other people that is bad thankfully my editor's awesome so i can rely on him and i do love my pals but boy the farther you get out from your inner circle it can get a little frustrating hey i'll see you moxie i appreciate you man we definitely gotta chat soon i really cool because i could have multiple different designs out there something that has become increasingly more um popular and seemingly what i would have to do is come out with like like one piece of merch one like type of merch one logo and then if i wanted it to be successful it would have to sell a certain amount like right now i'm very hesitant with merch because the last time i talked with a company of like okay like how would this work i would have to sell i think a minimum of 500 shirts and if i let's say i sold only 400 shirts i would have to then buy the other 100 shirts myself so i'm in kind of an interesting spot with merch of like do i take a risk like would i be able to sell enough or like could i lose money selling merch now if i lost money i don't actually think i'd care as much about losing money as much as i think my ego would be so bruised if i came out with a logo that did so bad that i would have to like i would lose money on it because people didn't like it enough so i don't know it's one of those things i'm really figuring out and trying to go back and forth [Music] but i do think a decent amount on it because i really love the idea of it but you just i feel like i have to i feel like i have to hit an absolute grand slam to do it is just looking into the company that philip defranco works with i bought his merch and it's quite good stuff the companies that i've looked into recently are like pretty high level to make sure i wouldn't have any of like the issues that i've had recently but uh it that also comes with there's a lot more risk on me so i don't know we'll move past this like these conversations sometimes i enjoy having them but i know people watching a stream don't really care as much about me talking about merch or like the inner workings of youtube and unfortunately i'm uh unfortunately for people listening sometimes i am in so deep when it comes to youtube and everything that comes with it like i very much love my job and i did win my last fantasy football game in my like there's one league i have that for whatever reason they wanted to be way too much like a buy in league and my best team for multiple weeks every single player on the bench has been either on injured reserve out or on a buy and i won the last game in a game i had no chance to win by like a point or two against one of the top teams that's like really what's carrying me in the world of sports and happiness so with that not fun uh thrown out there let's keep going we okay i have a question for you guys in pokemon when you guys play new pokemon game do you battle every trainer or do you skip some usually when i play a pokemon game for fun i battle every single trainer um but i don't know when i'm streaming i feel like i want to skip more i take your league seriously it's i've told you i get really sad every time i look at my roster there my other two leagues the it's so difficult to get a good team and then i go to your league i'm like my god my roster's so good and then it like it like messes with my head because it's like my team is so freaking amazing like of course i'm gonna win and then i kind of forget everyone else has good teams too but i always set my lineups it's just there's a difference right when you're in a league where it's just uh like slim slim pickings and i have to be like okay aaron rodgers said he was immunized instead of actually you know doing what he was supposed to do for the league's rules now i'm gonna pick up mike white this jet sensation and i'm gonna put my hopes and dreams on the back of this like random fifth round pick who went to the school that my editor broadcasts at this this is how i'm gonna get through it didn't work out it was a horrible decision but i tried that's fair year i think they've had like five or six cornerbacks go to ir they're down to their like six or not six they're down to like their eighth or nine corner back unfortunately that's a lot of football like uh teams can get super injured and it can really change things obviously if your team's gonna have a chance to win like depth is going to be tested and like has to step up the problem then also being like depth very good them needing to see step up very good once you're out of your depth and you're having to rely on people off the street now you've just gotten really unlucky and you really just gotta hope people come back but yeah at this point i i had a lot of faith in the bucks coming into this year injuries i i don't know i uh i think like i these next few weeks i've kind of just checked out on it's like can the the starting quarterbacks come back if they can let's see what happens if not they just they lost me to veya so the run defense goes down jbp is playing with a torn rotator cuff which i just don't play man like they're very much not useful with that bash rush is not doing well i think i'm next up at cornerback i think they're gonna pick me off the street and put me on the field like not good very bad very very bad but what are you gonna do there's a stat that shows the packers of the world oh the packers have had crazy bad injury luck no them being able to get through that is incredible no i'm i'm in no way shape or form saying the bucks are the most injured team but what they are is the most injured team in recent memory at defensive back which in today's nfl is the most important thing to have on your team if you want to have a competent defense and at this point very low level the uh qb's are looking like hall of famers against their defense they've done despite the injuries is impressive um very much so no no no no [Music] i will say though all pro wise because i would never i like i don't like to compare um [Music] teams and injuries like i think that just gets goofy but like comparing like quality of players injured all pros is easy to throw out there i mean my one gripe would be with the bucks teams the bucks never get any love like before they won the super bowl no one knew anyone on their team they had one pro bowler the team's not good then they won the super bowl and everyone's narrative as they had the the most broken team in the league in all-star team i think it's clearly somewhere in the middle like they have a really good offensive line not a single player on their offensive line has ever made a pro bowler all pro that's that shouldn't be true i think tristan's worth tristan works has led up one sack in his career at this point like he's been so dominant ally marpat's been so amazing but like there's a lot of guys that just do not get the accolades there but no no no i am not saying the packers are over their injuries the slide doesn't they like not have like a a wide receiver like a week ago no they are doing a lot with a lot of goofy things enjoyed watching the bucks the year before with jameis because it was must watch tv it was must watch tv i'll give you that god he is a horrible qb he is must watch tv you never you never know what he's going to do never you could watch the worst play you've ever seen from a qb and then immediately he follows it up with the best play you've ever seen i'm doing a song and dance and how am i supposed to know what to do next you know it can be tough i mean especially like right now in the pokemon community like i i expected that people would be like very quick with like ideas people have gone crazier than i even expected with like how far into a game's life cycle they're gonna do certain ideas i used to be with pokemon like it's like okay people would do like their let's plays people do like wi-fi battles and like informational videos about the the games then maybe in a few months you get a randomizer then like a year or two you get like super super unique games and now it's like i we are day two and we are doing like very deeply like modded games with huge twists like the life cycle of these games has gone from like months like content wise to like it's very overwhelming it can be difficult to figure out exactly what to do always i think i know what i want to do i'm definitely questioning myself more than i expected i would nose stop bothering me i don't know why you started hurting me but i don't like it i like it one bit manafee do better do better be better okay damn it no you're at plus six you can kill you're in the may turn it into a race which i'm really against because like mikey just uploaded like a randomized playthrough of sword and shield people have done randomized playthrough of sword and shields for like you know like a year plus at this point but he did it like two weeks ago three weeks ago it's got over two million views like there's no reason to rush to make content if you're making good content it can stand the test of time so i'm like pretty firmly on the side of like well there's no reason to rush you have a really good idea of very good content you can upload it whenever but a lot of people like i saw day one randomizers yesterday when it released in australia there were like american creators who have like randomizers done it's like whoa what happened like what did i miss like nothing wrong with it it's just like it's it's like ah what what's going on it's crazy i mean i i guess like for me it's like well like a randomizer will be fun of these games but like don't we want to play the games normally first before we do a randomized version because unlike the fun of the randomizer to see things that you wouldn't expect like a randomized underground is going to be very cool if you can randomize the underground but a randomized underground will only be really cool once i've seen what the regular underground looks like would like the pokemon walking around and i haven't seen it because the game just came out today for me so like i don't know i like why would i if i was doing that like i don't know i guess it would in my mind it would lose a lot of the fun if you've already randomized the game but like we haven't really had a chance to really experience it the normal way you know but i don't know what do you guys think i may maybe i am completely off right i'm the creator not the consumer of content what do you guys think of that stuff how come i got jirachi but not me i got mew it's just not on my team randomizer only makes it fun if you have played the original game like a lot of times okay yeah that's what i've been thinking yeah cause i mean it's logic like it makes sense in my brain i just don't know if like it could just be my brain right just said because most people do not like the combination of both pokemon and sports when i start talking too many sports the people leave the stream thankfully now that i'm more successful i can talk sports and more people stay cause there's just more people here but when i used to have like 40 people in a stream i'd talk sports and it would go down to like 20 people that would hurt my feelings that was tough i try to like put a lid on the sports talk but there's a very real chance at this point not even at this point there's a very real chance that i am a bigger sports fan than bucks or box fan than a pokemon fan the bucks are six and three are you like is that like trying to laugh at the bucks being six and three i'm not a bandwagon bucks fan i am a a bucks fan who's been a bucks fan since i was like four or five six and three is amazing i are you kidding me this is incredible they're six and three they're it's still in front like they haven't won the division in an unbelievably long time they're six and three they've had a lot of injuries like they definitely could make a run they might not but i've only watched them i've watched them win playoff games two separate times in my life in terms of like different years they won the super bowl both times which was sick but like if you think i'm taking six for three six and three for granted you're crazy and really they should be eight and one they should have like they definitely should have won two of the games they lost they didn't like that that sucks you can't you know change that they should have shoulda woulda coulda you know not great but six and three that's amazing i'm so happy with that i used to as a bucks fan i used to desperately hope for years where the team would go eight and eight i remember telling my roommate my college roommate my best friend i was like man i just want to be happy half the time during football season like that sounds like that was my goal like i would be the happiest fan if 50 of the time i ended sunday happy that was like that was my goal that was it that was the thing so you will not catch me complaining about six and three because once brady retires the bucks are back to trying to find a franchise qb and they have quite literally never in their franchise found a qb a good enough to resign i think brady's the first qb they've ever resigned and he's 507 so like bucks might have two like this year and next year and then they're gonna be bad again for another 20 years so i'm cherishing these they could not win another playoff game with brady i am i'm having a blast everything is gonna revolve around getting as much done with the new pokemon games but uh i don't think that was ever a good strategy like trying to grow solely off of hype is not a smart strategy because when the hype is gone well you know then like if you got people excited over like hype you know it's i don't think it's a good recipe for success but also like my fiance works crazy hours at the hospital hey a fossil oh that's very exciting but she works crazy hours at the hospital and i don't want to be selfish with my time like if i you know if i don't stream on the weekend so i can spend time with my you know wonderful fiance who i love very very much then i probably had a fantastic weekend and i'll come back energized and we'll have a fantastic stream monday um so i don't want anything like that so you just keep being a wonderful you and also while you're doing that do not feel like you need to rush i know you've been doing more of like the hardcore playthroughs which are really cool do not feel a need to rush this play through here is oh crap okay this is important chat let me see if i can get this i wanted to give helpful advice but then i didn't get it um a remake game is only gonna bring so much excitement and hype if you found success doing the hardcore nuzlockes and the hardcore nose locks were getting views when pokemon was dead and we didn't have a very popular new game keep the focus on that you want to do a video or two on the the new games awesome but at the end of the day what really matters is you know like keep perfecting what you're doing what's doing well and you know maybe you can bring some new fans that you know find you through the new games to go watch that main content that was doing well before i think people get a little tunnel visioned at times and get like like this severe fomo of like okay the new games are out i have to capitalize on this crazy success of this new game like this is my moment i have to do something that's how i used to feel and it never brought me any sort of long-term success in the community never not a single time um you can absolutely do well with a new game but at the end of the day whatever you're doing you got to be able to like you got to be able to make content you know when we don't have a new game that just comes out especially with legends rcs being a pokemon game none of us have ever seen or really made content for so uh some advice no one asked for don't get two tunnel visions [Music] that i genuinely well i mean it's not shocking i can't even imagine i can't even imagine how difficult it would be to balance everything all man all the good vibes and love and support to you man i absolutely love hearing what you're doing and right here let's go that's sick it's there we go there's that um cool nice that gives increased shiny odds for chimchar i'm excited to figure out how that stuff works i think there's some pretty cool things you can do when it comes to on type not species that's what i've been told but everything's so new like until i see someone with like the the code of the game i'm just kind of like eh i don't know everyone's got different theories no stop itching i do not like it when you itch me it hurts my feelings that's a little frustrating to hear but uh i guess it makes sense mr sam i would hope that it would be more like explicitly stated like what the point of these rare really cool statues like what they do even if they just said like hey guys these cool statues they just look cool there's they don't actually do anything they just look cool in your base i'd still be like that's sick it'd be nice just to know what they do oh my god swords dance don't mind if i do guy are you kidding me man this is why i get so confused and slightly frustrated when people like we're like oh your first playthrough we gotta do a nuzlocke do another lock i like a bass nuzlocke of this game would not be difficult i just beat three gyms and now i can like get set up and substitute and u-turn and all these other incredible moves like just be really easy like a hardcore nose lock like i think yeah yawn's doing hardcore does lock zero deaths that's sick that's that's actually very fun and difficult but like if i'm not doing something like that i'd rather my first playthrough just be chillaxin saying hello to this guy hello why are you guys standing like that that just feels weird why aren't you like talking to each other why is one of you staring at the back of the other one's head doesn't make any sense you give me something at least you're not standing this is side by side i don't know what you were doing before it was just weird it was like oh just bizarre come on in that gets there's a lot of questions and
