Playing Dark Souls for the First Time! New Londo Ruins, Sif and the 4 Kings - Ellen's Souls Academy

think at this point the thing that is the smart thing to do in the game is to go and kill a friendly dog in the form of lovely sif the sweetest loveliest wolf in the world um now i had hoped to leave sif until after the dlc is completed because you get this special cutscene but i had forgotten that you can't go to new londo ruins until you have a thing that you get from sif and if you don't go to new londo ruins before you do the dlc then you're gonna have a very very very hard bad time so just look it up on youtube folks this is that extra cut scene this is the this is the this is the smart way to do it um so we're going to try and do sif and then we're going to head to new londo ruins and aim to do the four kings as well but that is ambitious it is real like you know things are getting real ellen it's getting really real okay in dark souls now i'm not i've not added to my character since last week what i did instead was i restarted the game for some capture uh for a list that we're doing and i uh beat the asylum demon in one go with no hits so nice i have improved your your lessons have taught me well my lessons uh in my lessons indeed it's all cloud saves in your brain ill and doesn't it feel good going back and doing that first thing and realizing that the only thing has changed is your brain good it feels so it it's just like you suddenly understand how it all plays out now oh yeah now here last week uh people will have seen that i killed the two people that were in here yeah they've not respawned that would be great oh are they back there's something there okay don't take another step oh you took another step i didn't take another step before you said that right all right um okay so in this big like garden area that you're in ellen um oh dear there's a whole lot of cool items that i'm gonna recommend uh you go get off stream because it's time-consuming and there's nothing like they're cool to they're cool to have but like there's nothing crucial like for your build or for your journey right wow look at you just just wandering off but i was staying away from those going around the edges luke i'm sorry okay today yeah okay okay okay okay actually in the spirits of having a lot to do okay um let's try and slightly sort of cheese our way through this area so basically you're gonna want to sprint along the left side of this this area so like hugging the left as you come in we just get just just running towards that light that one that little light that we don't want to go towards it no no no that is that is the oh that is the game being a jerk just run and and folks going to attack you just keep running oh hello sir you can ignore him you're heading for that little castle thing in the middle you want to go through those gates okay no is that gate there there we go no mercy none spared all right okay all right through those gates thousand souls i'll take that through here uh-huh have a look on your left that's your right [Laughter] is [Music] um yes you've been given all the information you need to make this decision um okay so basically um if we if we agree with this cat we can join the forest hunter covenant which means that all of these npcs in this area are going to stop attacking you so um just say yes basically to everything okay can you just i'm gonna turn up the game just so can everyone here of the dark root [Music] oh yes i believe we would be well yes okay um yeah you can kind of like switch between the covenant so if i go back to the spider lady i can rejoin it can't i yeah yeah it's not like absorbing sins not loads of money okay i just i just wanted you to hear that no no no no no no although ellen speaking of absolving sins uh so now if you sort of head out to the oh look at the ring nice if you can head out to the cat coming up oh yeah oh no piano [Music] [Music] it's like if the cat was made by the joker like agreement it's like i would like what's the golden rule mouth you see that golden rule ellen clan is thy known family okay don't double cross now so if you head out uh just like the opposite way to where you yeah just through through the through the next the neck the next next way i suppose yeah and then i think where abouts are they is it just just to the left oh no i've gone the wrong way somewhere somewhere else around that so so head back head back and back um uh yeah somewhere around the around this building there's another there's another npc you can have a chat there we go that sorry there we go that's that's the one okay so i'm shiva i like it yeah so the thing is yeah shiva here is a merchant uh if you exhaust this dialogue they're going to move to blighttown and you can like buy stuff from them there can you see behind them there's a sort of faded out yeah yeah okay so that's like a bodyguard now the bodyguard has this real sweet ring and like i know you just promised not to betray the covenant at all but will that make me sinful if i betray the covenant it's a really good regatta um uh you you would have to you would have to talk to the yeah you would have to like pay to get absolved um you know pay oswald um but man it's a cool ring i i think you might be able to um you might be able to uh can you yeah yeah it's the unfortunately that ring is really cool and it's the only way to get it so i think it's kind of worth what is it what is what does it do uh it means that when you roll uh your roll is slightly faster has a few more invincibility frames and it turns your role into a cool like uh like hand flip man yeah it's really cool it's really cool also um yeah the flip flip ring so so here's the thing so i i actually am aware of a sort of sneaky way of doing this yeah um so basically if you like just don't hit him with your sword but just like just kick him a few times repeatedly until you just kick him off the cliff okay all right what am i uh so you you um yeah this uh so so yeah oh yeah i'm practicing to make sure that's worth getting don't freak out the chat i'm suggesting that ellen goes and picks it all up in my own time yeah rather than you just watching me collect things can you see that sweet glowing there is i mean people have tried so many ways he's one of the four souls that you need in it i'm gonna clip that good stuff well done ellen you did great first try that's that's not an easy boss thank you good job okay everyone everyone's just sad usually everyone's like yeah i'm sorry dog it was just this good dog that was looking out for him i know that sort of knows the sad backstory need comfort grief ahead imminent sorrow yeah yeah so uh well it's been 24 minutes and we've killed a dog and betrayed a cat so i've got a ring got two new rings though so can i recommend can i uh make a strong recommendation for the use of a homewood bone with four to six thousand souls on you rather than going back through the foreign hates me where everyone hates you totally unreasonably why are they so unreasonable i don't know that was great ellen well done um i'd like to say that things are going to pick up from here but to be honest now we've got everything we need to um go down into the drowned ruins of new londo which is my my characters uh okay i can level up one should i go for strength or vitality those are the two i'm feeling right now uh yeah both vitality strength endurance all fine investments oh strength charlie stack says currently got the flu so thank you for the great stream also my blades in the dark poster arrived today and it looks amazing uh oh great that's uh this is an annoying amount of souls to have spare because that's that's a fair old chunk of change but at the same time you're a ways off [Music] [Laughter] but don't forget the page the don't forget the um painted world of ariamis farming spot yes so never worry about a lack of souls again so all right all right i guess now we want to head to firelink shrine so while you commute oh it's only sucks about new londo ruins apart from literally everything um uh is that there's no bonfire so you have already been to your nearest bonfire so we're gonna we're gonna try and open some shortcuts but like there's no bonfire uh we're not gonna find a bonfire did i even rest at that bonfire i'm gonna have to probably get off you did you did you did okay good good because we're just going to add an extra step to getting back now here we are guys look how fun this looks look everyone's so happy here great time remember we came down here and we got the s stock from just from this guy here yeah well now we just progress a little further oh oh who's this ah oh that's the guy that was at my bonfire why do you hate me yeah well spotted yeah he's the smug one who's like oh you'll find no urn yeah have right so now what you're going to want to do is pop that transient curse in an item slot next to the estus flask okay um because basically this area is packed to the gun whales with ghosts and you can't hurt the ghosts okay unless you apply a transient curse i've just started reading the uh the book you died a dark souls companion which was written by some um uh games journalists um including uh the great kevin mcdonald oh i love that yeah and they talk about the uh the chain of pain like trying to review this game before it was out and um there's some good stuff about like how on earth like like basically a big email chain yeah it was a big email chain that that was quite cool because um everyone at different outlets different websites was on it yeah magazines and stuff and they were all basically cooperating to try and figure out what the hell was going on and how how the heck to get through this this this maze of a game there you go so um right so we probably want to apply that transient curse now okay it lasts a fair old while also if you keep um can you see like it's now grayed out in your item thing yeah uh it doesn't tell you when the curse becomes inactive but it stops being grayed out and that's that's a good way to know although another good way to know is that you stop being able to kill ghosts so good good i was really hoping we would be one shotting them yep light attack one shot good good good okay this is horrible i'm really glad that you're with me for this i hate i really hate this area now there's a few key items that we really want to pick up um in here that we don't want to miss so i will do my best to guide you to them i think that one that you can see there that one is one such item i think that is yeah oh dear something is horrible in here i bet there's a lot of blood here oh oh yeah there's a lot of them such cool flips though yes nice um i think um let's see uh i would i would head back outside i feel like we maybe missed a little bit again it's not sort of you are on the kind of critical path if you like um that's going to be a shortcut um but i do want to make sure that we get the fire keepers sold but but it that's that's the only hint that you need to go yeah we got so that we got the ring that we got from killing sif yeah if you walk into the boss area without it equipped you just fall through the floor and die wow yeah and if you take it off at any point in the boss fight you fall through the floor and die wow um yeah who knew okay okay so we've talked to that guy go back down yeah good stuff [Music] okay whoa hello [Music] ghost nocturne uh privet yeni says inspired by ellen to do a crazy stunt take on the asylum demon without the black firebombs on the first encounter with my fists despite being horrid at the game uploaded it recently here oh wow i mean that's intense that's sort of what i want to do next now that i know that i can do it with like early level stuff do the whole thing try to just see just see if it's see if i can do it yeah because i know it's possible i mean not many things are possible of course of course uh emma burns says i personally prefer fighting sif before doing the dlc because then i can pretend that i altered the timeline and sif isn't actually dead anymore hashtag denial yeah yeah yeah that's a great way of thinking about it emma and that's that's what will so that's our head canon uh andrew parker says so many amazing bosses in these games but what has been your most annoying boss i've just taken out mikalash the dumb jerk of the nightmare who definitely has my vote absolutely smashing it ellen um oh man some of the some of the bosses in sakiro are my least favorite ever um i mean there's some i'll be honest like the four kings in this area are a real a real pain in the fundament i think it's a really irritating boss fight this hang on i shouldn't be saying that should i you got this ellen it's gonna be good it's gonna be great we're gonna have a good time and you're gonna do great go down here and get this hello right what's this death there's gonna be something horrible here okay green tight night shard okay okay i don't know what that what that person died off but okay right up here spooky spooky times someone gonna try and get me no okay if i run around here god this really is a maze yep lift does not move open yes using the key we got from the dude on top of the thing thanks dude on top of the thing and that ellen is progress cast iron progress this car seems cool right um you're doing really well ellen uh in terms of like progression you're halfway through the area um but the second half um the second half has has tougher tougher enemies um but there's fewer ghosts so that's good um and now the contraption should move radia or osha says sorry if i mispronounced that says since an undead needs a goal purpose or a strong will to avoid going completely hollow do you think the player is their character's will to keep going and not become a completely mind swallow yes i think so i think especially like with the dying and coming back and stuff like the oh god yeah so you've just drained the water out of this area oh god yeah oh i know where this is [Laughter] yeah that's the valley of the drakes um these dudes are pretty tough they are super backstabbable and parriable that's gonna is that gonna do it yeah sucker brilliant great work very crunchy okay so i came out of that door oh god there's a lot of drakes yep so a lot of people just like drowned i guess yeah the um i i believe the law is that uh the area flooded um and everyone died and that's why it's one of my least favorite places in the game to just be in i just find i just find it like oppressive yeah enjoy people i didn't enjoy getting getting through this bit of the game at all uh yeah i found it just very bleak oh hello sir i see you i see you i see you there oh good eye hey cheeky there we go oh what is that nothing good i think it's maybe a grab attack or or a shield a kind of like well stopped you doing it good luck thanks everyone nice one so um through those gates i believe is the boss fight but there is another item in this area that is is super super worth getting and it is the um yeah very large ember that's it um yeah at least i think it's i think i think that takes you to the oh no maybe it doesn't maybe there's another room to go you know what just head through that fog door do i need to be wearing the ring no if it does lead you to the boss fight it does it won't lead you like straight straight straight i think actually there's a bit more a bit more area to go okay okay yeah all right no worries we're not we're not there yet sorry i thought i thought that was short i can and you gave her one absolutely massive belly scratch yeah with this by hand yeah it's not sev's fault if they couldn't handle the belly script now um at this point because we've opened that shortcut um you're probably at the stage where you can just like kind of cheese it past the ghosts and just try and like get down to that thing i don't i don't think they would follow you down i suppose if they did you've got that little corridor space you've got to wait for it to reappear though yes actually that's a good point um this time when you get down on it let's send it up again um yeah you go any further there's a sort of gift save some time yeah i should have done that with the last lift seven says r.i.p sift but you can use their soul to create the cursed sword of artorias which will let like lady oh great i can't remember but oh lick just lady gray but it's like got hints of orange and stuff to it but i drink a lot of uh redwood tea and infusions such as like peppermint tea like they're not actually technically teas they're infusions so uh ah okay ellen um oh can you go through the wall not quite i think i know where we're gonna get that very large ember once we've got that very large ember i will just relax because then we can then we can crack on with the boss fight all other items down here are optional garbage yes nice okay so um head on back to the lift don't get in the chat and the viewers at home will be too annoyed if i basically tell you a little bit about it because it's one of those it's almost a puzzle boss in the way that there's a very particular way to do it and it's not really obvious right um which is essentially you've waded through all that yeah the the strategy is the good news is that we've got a pretty good build for this boss for what this boss needs and what this boss needs is to be hit with as hard as possible as a yeah with a big sword as aggressively as possible because uh there's going to be a sort of enemy that you will see as soon as you see an enemy as soon as you can see an enemy just sprint towards it and try and kick its butt as as like you know as as quickly as you can because they're on a timer and after a while another one's going to appear and if you're fighting more than one at once it's basically going to start to get almost impossible so you need to be killing killing killing killing killing killing killing always killing always and then you'll be all right um just gonna yeah i'm gonna save the last hour and i've just got that okay all right okay so which which one do you reckon i should go for they're both for roles well you want immense strength and you want speed so i would say maybe i'd probably lose the flippy flippy ring and i would almost consider to be honest maybe which one do i need the covenant of artorias it's called i think okay there's an argument to say that we would be better off swapping the havel ring for the clarency ring because the faster your stamina regenerates the more you can be hitting per second yeah maybe let's try it and just see what it does to your roll speed and if you oh no yeah if you don't like that then yeah cool cool cool cool cool cool cool is that is essentially the fight so you can see that it's pretty important to try and minimize the time you spend drinking and like healing so but you you definitely have the right idea if you you know yeah and in the end it's not dissimilar to any other dark souls enemy and that you lock on you walk around the back of it just get used to the the depth perception is terrible yeah it's wild it's a wild boss this and it really and it really messes with your um uh expectations as well yeah um because uh you are you're basically so used to the idea of like having to like go and get around the back of a boss yeah um and like and just like waiting and not getting greedy that's it so like you're like i don't want to get greedy i must have to get greedy no um but actually yeah you should be greedy the other thing you can do this just in um the other thing you can try in this fight is um uh um havel's armor manolo munoz says remember remember ellen when in doubt just wiggle it about it's want to try and try and do it myself first if i can yeah yeah ellen the you whichever way you do it will be by yourself don't worry okay there's no no one else is going to be able to do this for you principle it's you know how we basically drained the place yeah so like you don't have to take that elevator down you can just sort of jump off just jump down a little the elevator didn't work before before played bloodborne went back and played the dark souls and they were like oh this is why he's got like a theory as to why so that sounds really good it's a really good video i'll send it to you does some truly truly excellent and well-informed descriptions of the maneuvers he's making like exactly exactly which way he's kind of twisting the yolk or something like that and then scythe right and then yeah um into the apex you can tell he's written for top gear websites he knows he knows his stuff yeah yes it was really really fun um so yeah that's going up on saturday because that's when the game's out so yeah keep an eye on the channel for that i am terrified it will be fun it was really really really really good fun um i had a right laugh playing it um and it's one of those wonderful games where you're like oh i hope i know what i'm doing and then you're like oh i yeah this makes sense so it was good it was really well well done well done it was really fun very cool i'm
