after that heart-stopping game in philadelphia we may have another one here in new orleans steelers and saints coming up here on cbs and hello friends jim dance along with tony romo tracy wolfson merry christmas to all of you and to you my good friend what a big game this one is in so many ways hey merry christmas to you as well and this one's huge pittsburgh fighting for their playoff lives they were in a playoff game last week they got another one today and what a place to do it in in new orleans against the number one seed this is how you got to get in the playoffs it's tough it is asking a lot but the steelers they certainly have been in this position before and they by the way decided to take the football after winning the toss just as they did last week against new england let's bring in tracy before the first snap well thanks a lot tim the saints are back at home for the first time in over a month and they know how important being at home is they don't want to pack their bags until atlanta we spoke with sean payton he basically said he didn't shy away from telling his team what is at stake today that number one seed equals an extra week of rest it also equals just one win and you're in the nfc championship for a super bowl worth we know how good they are at home 5-0 in the playoffs under breeze and payton well you saw thank you tracy juju smith schuster who got injured midweek in practice he's up and active and catching the first pass of the game the first play goes to smith schuster for 15. [Applause] roethlisberger you can see his numbers he's got a good chance at his first ever 5 000 yard season you're seeing it right here jim the start of this football game last week they spread out the new england patriots early in the game you're gonna see it again in this football game this calms down this crowd because the quarterback actually can signal the line of scrimmage here's the first down throw and it's complete to the running back who was split wide jalen samuels and having smith shuster up there had been some question if he would be able to play after being limited on thursday and friday in practice that allows you to be able to do the five wide exactly right five wide receivers not a lot of teams to it but it does make the defense commit five defensive backs or there's a bad matchup guarding someone with smith shuster up you're gonna see them spread out a lot in this game don't attack anyone with strength it's the run game they're number one in the nfl spread them out then sprinkle on a run here and there here's a second and nine toss to samuels who had 142 yards on the ground last week against new england on 19 totes he's got a gain of two it'll be third and seven coming up the saints defense the last six weeks has been number one in scoring defense number one in takeaways number one in sacks the last six weeks wow this team this is not the old patriot or the old saints this is a defensive team and they run the ball on offense a little different than everyone thinks it is loud here this defense is the most athletic that i have seen in the last five or six years it's impressive third and seven they move brown over to the left side and triple stack it over there as roethlisberger takes it out of the gun and throws that into the ground with pressure around him so they pick up a first down on the first play of the game the pass to juju but after that the saints defense locks them down and jordan barry will come out to punt it's why it's so important for new orleans to get the number one seed if you have to go through this stadium that defense flies around and they shut the run down and that allows them to pressure and they've got two really good guys inside this is very very tough task today for pittsburgh to come in here and win this game tommy willis is back as the returner and this is sailing toward the end zone flies the yard in for the touch back got a little too much of that so 37-yard net on the punt and brees and company will come out shortly well there he is the mvp candidate probably going to be down a breeze in mahomes and these last couple of weeks even drew admitting to us that they have not been playing up to their offensive standards they put up 12 points in the win monday night at carolina as the fewest points in a win for the saints franchise since back in 1998 but they've been on a three-game road trip and they haven't been home since november third week of november they're happy to be back in the confines here where they've lost only the season opener there's a running play to start it with mark ingram bulldozing ahead for eight and what do you see as far as the game plan for this saints offense well the number one thing you just saw right there will be to run straight downhill they're going to put the ball in the hands of the tail back and running straight at this defense pittsburgh's too athletic on the edge these outside linebackers you don't want to toss it and bootleg there's so many disruptive plays by these guys on the edge run it straight downhill and then quickly get the ball out of your hands in the passing game if you do that you neutralize this pressure that they bring constantly here's the second and two and again they go with ingram and he's able to find his way through a tiny opening for a first down the stevens defense well last week they gave up a touchdown on the third offensive play of the game for the patriots and after that they kept new england out of the end zone the rest of the way it was one of the greatest schematic i would say coming into a game that i've seen pittsburgh run mike tomlin's fingerprints were all over that last week he double double-teamed gronk he took a page out of belichick's playbook but he also disguised their cover two and different things it was really a fantastic job today i'm anxious to see if he does the same thing with michael thomas and camaro here's the first down throws brees connects to thomas and vince williams rides him down but it's a 13-yard pickup pressure off the edge you'll see right here drew brees he sees it and the ball's out this is how you beat pittsburgh drew brees is great at getting the ball out of his hands quickly ryan ramczak who's had a outstanding season the right tackle out of wisconsin was matched up against his old wisconsin teammate tj watt was dinged on this play here you see watt and ramchak good pals teammates both coming out of the same draft as first rounders and ram check when we met with coach sean payton on friday he went on and on about the year that ramchak's been having well he played left tackle right tackle he thinks he belongs in the pro bowl but you know it's hard when you're right tackle to take a lot of left tackles this is this would be big if he gets up here [Applause] the nfl on cbs is sponsored by t-mobile whether you're home or away t-mobile has you covered state far here to help life go right and by kay jewelers for all the moments for love forever [Applause] the saints have taken ryan ramczak the right tackle into the blue tent and they've shifted their offensive line around andrus pete moves to right tackle they brought in will clap number 64 foot of the guard and here's brees on the slacks able to find thomas for the second time that's his 111th catch of a remarkable season that's how you beat him right there get the ball out quick and you see what's at stake today jim so much the steelers trying to stay in the lead in the afc north and hold baltimore a half game back they would do that with a win stay on top but with a loss the steelers would not be in the top six in the current playoff configuration was the saints again their story a win and they lock up the one they walk up to the home field for the nfc throughout here's breen that's actually hill that's hill throwing it deep and it's intercepted jason hill comes in and throws it right into the arms of davis who's going to run it out that's hill with a horsepower tackle josh hill tackles davis on the back of the pads that'll be 15 and hill who comes in and so many different lineups tried to go for the deep strike to the end zone and davis comes up with it he was looking for ted ginn who had just come off of ir it's a fantastic job playing the ball by davis and right here when he intercepts this ball after the interception personal foul force call a tackle new orleans number 89. it's a 15-yard penalty first down pittsburgh i didn't really see a big horse collar here that's not a horoscope he's just grabbing the jersey it looked like it though because he pulled him i tell you when he pulled him from around the other side too that's a dangerous tackle any way you look at it either way you look at it but it was hill throwing the interception and then josh hill flagged for 15 [Music] well they thought they would get pittsburgh to play the deep over and they did the problem was the ball was a little across the field and a hair short taysom just missed the mark he had the guy again open if he kept him outside just the eighth interception of the year for the steelers they had a big one last week by hayden this is the play that was so effective last week samuels gets five out of that gene stereotour our rules aficionado want to bring you in on that tackle a moment ago that was flagged yeah jim uh not just inside the caller but the name plate as well so that grasping right at that plate which also forces that runner's knees to buckle that's a safety issue and it's a good call even though he's just below the name that name plate and the way that that action happens that's a good call for a horsepower all right gene second and five back here for the steelers they go five wide this is the formation tony you could be the difference maker today you said zlatasburger goes for the option to switcher and zeloni shoves them out about a yard short of the first [Applause] well this is why i like going five wide not a lot of teams do it because if you look these are linebackers inside at least one well if you have a linebacker there's nobody else on the field on offense who's not a receiver you're gonna play some and when ben roethlisberger and greg quarterback see sone that helps a lot you've neutralized the defense so to me if you know what they're in defensively let's get in this a lot more so i don't get surprised after the snap it's third and two switzer lines up in the backfield roethlisberger drops the ball sidearms and is able to complete it to smith schuster for the first on a broken play but a flag on the near side line of scrimmage well usually when it's a run and you don't throw it right away on a run pass option lineman get down field sometimes it could be blocking as well though on pittsburgh down the field and there's a couple of options here they're discussing it a receiver might have blocked early it's a pass [Applause] steelers offense is already backed up a bit expecting this going to go against them let's see for interference the block was legal first down on the completion so legal block after a long discussion and now coach payton wants to have a little word about it well the block is going to come all the way on the outside the wide receiver and so you'll see down here the block happens right there and there must be saying it's at the line of scrimmage to make it legal but a big call there and what a play by ben to pick it up big time improvisation as he swings it over this time to switzer for just two so once again that was five wide receivers and they put switzer in the backfield and you know automatically what the defense is in here and they stay on the ball five wide receivers ben is going to look at the defense he sees linebackers jim okay and he'll call out who's coming who's blitzing points and then call of play this is something that the offensive coordinator randy finkner brought into the new england game plan and there's a completion near the first for smith schuster [Applause] and there is the offensive coordinator who's done such a fine job for the steelers first year as the offensive coordinator after eight years of being the quarterback coach and he's done a fantastic job you know what i want to see sometimes in the second half when you get these leads they got to run the ball a little bit last week they did a great job of it but right here this five wide receiver set it's really problematic for defenses they gave him the first down on the catch to smith schuster pittsburgh runs the football only 33 percent of the time that's the lowest in the league he's going to run with it and try to hold off rankings for a while and he's able to pick up a good gain of about five and renkins is playing outstanding football inside watch the pressure he'll provide coming across actually rankings was right next to him but you can see that speed when they drafted him it made this a very formidable front because you've always said cameron jordan nyad rankins who has eight sacks in the d tackle position it's really tough going against these guys second and five at the 34. looks right goes middle and a quick hit on smith shuster by vaughn bell who's been in on the last couple of tackles and that's already the fourth catch for juju you know when you get in the five wides and we keep talking about it but one of the receivers has to play a tight end last week it was a brilliant move because they put him in a tight end spot where it's really hard to double team and now ben walks up and now you see it a b in the tight end position again antonio brown he lines up right there he has a two-way go it's hard to double-team that leaves people up top one-on-one if the safety comes down here's the third and one but a loss that was some play by pj williams it's a screen pass to brown and pj williams does a great job getting through and then making the play and now you're gonna see chris boswell come out and this is an ongoing story of his issues in the kicking game 12 total mis-kicks only 11 out of 18. they're asking him to deliver from 49 yards and the kick by boswell is good into the net from 49 so they get three off the take away that was huge coming to the stadium quiets the crowd down big drive well what is a beautiful day down in new orleans we're indoors the mercedes-benz super dome boswell to kick off this great city celebrating its tri-centennial all this year the 300-year anniversary of the one and only city of new orleans and boswell is going to send that to the back of the end zone for the touch back and tonight 60 minutes we'll explore the small island nation in the mediterranean with a mythic past what kind of history is it making today you'll find out tonight plus running with the wolves of yellowstone that's tonight on cbs and look who's coming back in ryan ramchack returns and tracy reporting that the word was it was a right ankle injury taped him up and he's back in wow this is actually pretty cool to see when you get both these tackles armstead's been out for a while you get both that's the biggest reason why they haven't been dominating what they did in the middle of the part of the year with the carry out to the 29. what about the decision on their last possession they were moving the football and they went uh with taysom hill going deep i understand putting taste in minutes as part of their packages but that that was a little too aggressive because you were moving the ball you ran it right down their throat you're throwing quick game and you know shawn's greatness is that you know sean payton his greatness is that he's aggressive he's willing to lay down the line in that case it obviously didn't work out but i think you got to move the ball at home you got to get points keep this crowd in it keep them rocking second and six across the middle wide open another big game for thomas running away from edmonds and it's all the way down to the pittsburgh side of the field with the 43 gain of 28. just a quick slat and the two things you see over and over again thomas when you pressure they're gonna throw the ball quickly he's got great eyes looking around where everyone is special talent right there but run the ball straight at him straight downhill and throw quick game leading receiver in the nfl coming into the week first ever to have 300 receptions in his first three years here's the running play for ingram finally gets pushed back but a good game and that's that's where when they have all these guys healthy up front new orleans run they can run straight downhill i mean as every run has been downhill have you seen a toss or anything a bootleg on the outside on the edge they want to neutralize those players and come right at you and use those big guys up front and when they're healthy up front we're looking at two of the best offensive lines in the league right here on the same field i'd like to welcome some of you just joining us second drive of the game for the saints they were intercepted jason hill coming in throwing the pick and led to a steeler field goal as brees passes knocked down by cam hayward who had a hyper-extended knee injury suffered against new england but talking to keith butler down on the field before the game he thought cam would be playing at 100 he made it play right there and there is the defensive coordinator who played in the league 11 years as a linebacker with the seattle seahawks [Applause] the defense that has allowed only one 100-yard rusher the whole year going against a run dominant offense we'll see what they can do today on the bottom that usually means a run of some kind ingram stacked up and denied this was a great third down defense against the patriots last week held them to only three out of ten conversions and now we got a fourth down coming up fourth and two and the offense is still out there just the push you can see hayward right there push back into the backfield and not allow there to be any room now this is interesting we're bringing an extra lineman in the game and an extra tied in too clap the extra lineman you saw [Applause] fourth and one now timeout called by new orleans saints trying to claim the number one seed and home field advantage that first week by and do what they've only done one of the time in their history and that is be the number one seed the other time of course was the 09 season they won the championship winning the super bowl over indianapolis down in miami well and i see some similarities because that team ran the football very well they were sixth in the nfl in rushing and this year i think they're third and to me that tells you a lot in rush percentage right now you know they're they're the most they rush 47 of the time that's the most since 2000 in new orleans that helps the quarterback a lot here we go big fourth and one it's a long one too good yard and a half they go empty looking for that favorable match up now trying to improvise on his own and breeze goes in zone and it's incomplete almost picked but a flag is out hayden got a hand on it but the flag is hayden and camara were down there tangled for a moment just when it looked like the steelers might take over on downs but this is passenger pants [Applause] and there's no help behind him he gets behind brees finally finds him is there a touch there oh this is what where was that where oh i don't see much of one there to you jim i haven't i've maybe even never seen a less of a pass interference play in my life oh my goodness i mean where is it he's looking he called it from right underneath the goal post he was right there but i don't see much there ingram left side and across for the touchdown ingram running right behind zach lime so a huge call on a change of downs change of possession and you see the power in brute force in this offensive line we're going to run it right at you it's significant isn't it yes and they're gonna run behind pete and he pull them and the benefit of a big call hayden can't do much more and he's right i agree with him but you gotta overcome it they call it if you're a steeler fan you're livid you're new orleans you're like yeah i saw that push in the back extra point coming up for relucts and he drills it saints 23rd rush touchdown of the year that's the interference call to set up the touchdown from a yard out for ingram [Music] the nfl on cbs is sponsored by fedex possibilities what we deliver by delivering and by geico 15 minutes could save you 15 or more on car [Music] insurance and you saw tuesday night mark ingram and a number of saints players hosting an event for the children from the volunteers of america's mentoring children of promise group each child showered with a lot of love and attention gifts and saints gear this holiday season nice touch as lutz sends it right to the goal line switzer for the 20 and angles it out same he would have gotten off the touch back maybe an extra yard 26 yard line maybe 27. zach line knocked him out we do have a flag though during their turn holding return team number 45 the 10-yard penalty first down let me bring in gene starrator you've had a chance to look at all the replays of the hayden pass interference call gene what did you it's a see angle for the back judge jim and i you know it's tough to say what he's seeing from his angle you would hope that maybe a deep wing official that is looking at that although there is a little contact there it doesn't seem to have a lot of a material effect on this play the ball is relatively high as well maybe a little help from somebody downfield to talk to him there's a hand there but i don't see an awful lot of displacement or material effect on that play hayden pulls the helmet a good 20 yards in frustration the penalty by the way on the kickoff sends it back to the 10. where samuels is wrapped up right away von bell got there first okafor as well no gain well you're looking at the number one rush defense in the national football league if you're gonna run the football on them you better have unique ways and you better to me do it at different times when they're not expected to come out and run it on first down when they're preparing for it it's really difficult then again best in the league at stopping the run under 80 yards a game is all they give up they'll go with it again on the ground this time they're able to get a big chunk for 16. samuels on the draw running behind jesse james and others getting out of the jam watch the two guys inside for pittsburgh they're just going to create this monster hole both sides and then james gets up and blocks that's how you run it though second to ten everybody thinks you're passing up here's a draw that's to me not on first down you sprinkle it in once in a blue moon then you hit them when you're not expecting it third and four third and five sneak one in those are the times as the longest play for the steelers so far in this game 16. and now roethlisberger good pressure coming in unloads it great airtight coverage provided there by eli apple by the flag on the field right at the 30 and i've seen an interference signal passive appearance defense number 25 the ball is placed at the spot of the foul automatic first down [Applause] this is the big matchup between the two a little little grab there maybe a subtle makeup call if they are calling it tight here in new orleans i didn't see that one either but that is more contact for sure yes that was definitely but that's the match up today because antonio brown's gonna get doubled and here's the drop back in the deep ball rocklesburger trying to find brown they got knocked down at the 20. lattimore on the coverage this was shocking no help over the top and brown gets behind him and i actually think he had a step or two and ben just leaves it inside but vladimir does a good job making a play on that ball all right you see how they spread them out here jim but you got two tight ends in now that way you can block and one of those tight ends comes back mcdonald's to flank them they take the handoff to him and they go over to smith schuster and he scoots ahead to about the 38 which will set up third and four so these formations they've thrown switzer in the backfield that time they put a tight end in the backfield what it does when you throw five lives or like basically no running back on the field the defensive coordinator he eliminates a pass or a run defense so then what you do is they can pressure you right you don't have a running back to help block pittsburgh brings the tight ends in to help block or run some sort of play like we might run it sets up third and four the time wide open it's mcdonald's oh and he can deliver a stiff arm with the best of them he didn't do it this time but he got free in the secondary for a gain of 49. eli apple just falls down and roethlisberger makes them pay this is the one of the big things mcdonald's just running a straight go route that you have to stop if you're new orleans the steelers get the ball out right away jim or ben holds on to it and creates a big play that's their offense in a lot of ways what a person right there what a quarter you're right ariel coverage of today's game provided by state farm as we start the second quarter here in the big easy with the steelers set up in the red zone where they have tremendous success on the season by percentage converting to touchdowns here's roethlisberger going to the end zone overthrowing the man who got him down there vance mcdonald up the 49-yard pass play [Applause] caught a touchdown last week against new england mcdonald's going to go up von bell has to stay outside he has help inside he actually allows him to get a little room on the corner but ben had to let go of that ball but in james washington and line him up on the left side coming off his finest game of his rookie year number 13. samuel is the running back and they give it to him up the middle and he's tumbled down after just a yard collided with one of the saints and maybe one of his own teammates third and nine coming up yeah they scored touchdowns tony in the red zone 77 of the time yeah they do because they can run it and throw it and just trips right over all right let's see what they do third and nine four wide samuel stays in the backfield end zone bound and almost intercepted and smith schuster tapped it in the air and eli apple almost came down with it smith shuster's gonna run out wide and then break in and eli undercuts it and there really wasn't a lot of space to make that throw it's a safe throw by roethlisberger and it almost becomes a throw going the other way call on boswell now for the second time good from 49 this from 30 and the kick is good [Applause] we'll be back to new orleans in 30 seconds after this from pepsi [Applause] what do you make of the pace of the game after a quarter and a minute well you can see that these two offenses are pretty dynamic and right now it's kind of played out like we thought the big key as you move in and we'll see this how it adjusts but you'll see that pittsburgh can handle the pressure that new orleans will eventually bring against those empty formations new orleans sees what you're doing sees what you're doing okay now we're going to figure out how to blitzy against it and when they do that that to me is going to kind of tell us what's going to happen alvin kamara let's that go over his head we showed you just a few moments ago the nfc playoff picture after the early games today here's the latest on the afc side new england clinching the afc east and moving up to the second spot houston dropping to three seed at the moment with its loss at philadelphia what a game that was and miami was eliminated indianapolis what a come-from-behind win down 14 early to the giants so there they are with tennessee both at nine and six look at that they go all the way over here yeah with a loss today i mean this is even last week we knew this was going to play out if baltimore won but not everybody thought the baltimore could go into the chargers you did well i thought it would be a close game you know sometimes you know certain styles but here's brees goes to the sideline completes it again and sensible grabs them and throws them out baltimore though what a close to the season they've won five of their last six the only loss was the overtime loss against kansas city you're not kidding it's just a simple play fake kamara is going to come in go out and help with pressure find the guy and breeze just feels that pocket and lets it go to the sideline simple route and that's the speed again though having him back up it's big they teams have started to really gear down and not cover that second guy they've been on ir since october 18th with a knee brought him back up during the last day and there's a running play with ingram who with that touchdown earlier got his 50th career rush touchdown which is a new saints franchise record two backs the benefit of that tremendous and you know american come in and do a lot of the same stuff but to have an ingram to be able to switch out it's a coach's dream and sean uses them uniquely and some ways very similarly as well second and eight camara now comes in it incompletes it'll be third and eight as they try to find josh hill it's interesting though the two backs you'll remember second game that we ever called together was new england at new orleans last year and they had three backs at the time yeah with with adrian peterson being the third and sean couldn't make that one what did we do with all this talent around here you even asked you're like can you get enough touches he's like um i don't know yet and of course he saw how special camaro was and it was like this guy needs touches ap has done pretty well by the way shows you the talent of that crew that was here third and eight got to pick up the pressure here's the pressure coming and brees pass on the money thomas finally gets shoved out from behind by edmonds but he has a couple of times had great separation down the field this goes for 20. internal pressure on brees stands in throws it early and thomas from the inside is going to have an outbreak in route and here's the problem when you press your breeze that means you can't double team thomas and you can't double team camaro camaro usually has to block somebody who's pressure and that's why you pressure right you take away one of their best players but thomas now is ripping it apart on every pressure tyron armstead who had just come back after being out the last five games with the pectoral injury knee issues they were so happy to have him back for this game and he's going to at least walk to the sideline for a moment and that's a big one when he's healthy he's one of the best in the national football league he's right on the edge 72 he's blocking bud dupree 48. let's see if he grabs that peck at all oh that right um now they have to again make another maneuver here reconstruct the line pete goes to left tackle armstead went straight to the blue tent and we got [Applause] i think that's a free football it's picked up [Music] [Applause] davis delivered the blow they ruled it incomplete i saw yeah incomplete rolstad boy they let him run it back for a while they did [Applause] ball gets caught sean davis puts that helmet right on that ball perfectly that's a close call it is i'm wondering if that gets challenged got a flag on the field but it's a yellow flag not red red flag hasn't worked out too well for coach tomlin for 12 minutes on the field he's missed his last 10 challenges the last time he won a challenge rollstead was the official that's so funny and i tell you to go 10 it's just the luck is so against you on that expect a quick quick pass right here out of breeze looking at the defense seeing what they're in now he's going to get up hey do this guys do this i want this route i looked at the defense hey there's double sword double sword double sword we're gonna block the two edge rushers again a low snap agrees goes down the middle and it gets knocked away by burnhead and there's another flag watson benjamin watson was the target for brees and there's watson pack interference defense the bullet places the spot of the foul automatic first down [Applause] yeah there's contact he gets there early and you just you know it's a it's really a good defensive play if you'd just been a tenth of a second later but just got there early and if you hit the guy before the ball they're going to call that for sure every time that is a 22-yard penalty against the steelers setting up we'll watch a play fake here right to the middle maybe i'm gonna run it with ingram what did you see there tony gain of three well what i what you see when new orleans what they like to do is they like to send a extra lineman in so that is an extra alignment they don't put a tight end in that spot when they do that they're telling you we're running the football so they do it here i think they're setting up a play action with that extra lineman i think sean wants to see what the defense is in okay and i'm coming back to that they bring in taysom hill they split them up [Applause] second and six [Applause] it'll be third and short [Applause] coach payton hoping to get this offense back hitting on all cylinders after putting up only 50 points the last three weeks combined well it's december football and what happens across the league you saw passing yards were down last week everyone wants to talk about offenses going on oh you got chased him in the backfield again brees wide to the right camaro running back third and two [Applause] oh he slipped out of a couple of tackles including sean davis at the end it's just i mean camara's ability to find the hole and get small and shifty it's just rare and then to break that tackle when you can kind of feel that guy coming it's just a rare god-given ability to sense and feel that he has lutz now with the extra point makes it an eight-point lead for new orleans that's from eight yards out camaro tough to bring down [Music] including the two today on the ground one by ingram the other by camaro the last five touchdowns for the saints this season have been all via the rush well that's that's why they really can separate themselves from some other teams they can stop the run and they can run the football and as you get into january if you can do both it's really hard especially when you have to go to their stadium and they have a quarterback like drew brees i mean this is this is built to come out of the nfc let's go down to tracy jim if i'm correct i think the first game you ever attended as a kid was in new orleans not at this stadium but the old stadium and how far you've come as just recently you were inducted into the sports broadcasting hall of fame with 10 others and i can say it was such an incredible night to be a part of and we couldn't be more proud of you you've been a great partner for us out here on the road into cbs for almost 35 years congratulations jim that's too nice thank you tracy my goodness let's get back to this with steelers at the 25 and out of the gun pass too high we are definitely not getting back to that game just bypassing that you kidding me you know sports broadcasting hall of fame it's all about being a part of a great team and working with wonderful people like you and past and present my cbs production family and my cbs technicians through the years the family i love them so dearly and you i'll say this because i know you're not going to shoot your own horn but there's not a more deserving or more talented person in this industry that i've ever come across or seen on television growing up than this guy thank you he's as good a person as he is broadcaster all right you're the best you're wonderful to be sitting next to having a blast second and ten as ruthlessberger scrambles looks around and anzalone's gonna throw him down and the ball ends up in his hands for they rule ben down and the flag comes out pouncey looks at him and shakes his finger and says you can't do that well they're going to protect his his quarterback just like i'm protecting my analyst or i'm sorry my play-by-play sometimes forget is your history and i'll tell you ben right there got tackled to the ground very aggressively and he's asking if there was a possibility of a penalty on that let's see the ruling on the film is completion down by contact there are no dead ball fouls so they pick up the flag and you can see the knee was down clearly before the ball came out yeah he's down and then the penalty they picked up after is probably for continuing to tackle after angeloni and grimble not sure why they picked it up if you throw it third and 11. i can't hear you jim it's too loud that's crazy isn't it wow pittsburgh needs this just to calm the crowd down pick up the blitz brothels burgers pass a little too high trying to connect with antonio brown who's been held to only one catch so far that went for a loss of one yard well they bring the pressure up the middle ben does a good job standing in and it's great protection but there's the route i want to see look at latimer he's got outside leverage it's actually a double team that's why he can stay outside and protect the sideline because he had the safety inside help dennis allen came up with a great plan right there to make it look like he was one-on-one but he wasn't so barry his first punch went for a touchdown he traveled 57 yards this one not as much for his distance but a fair catch at the 34. 41-yard punt saints have the ball back with the lead at 14-6 [Applause] [Music] yeah we know all about this stuff right here it's been quite uh a high calorie week let's put it that way but i've enjoyed every second of it new orleans you've completely ruined me when i get home my wife thought that i ate only salmon and nothing else breaking free for a moment that is kirkwood who came up from the practice squad on week 10 has made some plays he's a big target the rookie on a temple but you see the pressure and brees is shredding it kirkwood coming across the field they block it up here and pick up the extra guys rushing i think pittsburgh is going to have to change the philosophy right now drew brees is seeing where they're coming from and he's getting the ball out of his hands accurately and quickly each time and by the way guess who's back to ron armstead has returned to left tackle so both tackles get dinged they look good they both come back look at camaro go really deep as the throw comes over to josh hill and this is going to lose yardage about three maybe four well we talked about beating the blitz and sure enough early in the football game drew sees it coming at him fires it to thomas on the sideline easy 15. sees it coming again quick slant ball out philosophy they've been doing it over and over again and to me pittsburgh who's been pressuring all year i just don't believe that's the way to counter this team i think you got to just play man rush your four guys and just double the guys in key situations thomas and camaro first negative play of the game for the saints that last one eight right they set them back four second and fourteen and now they come in brees though so quick on the release able to get it away to thomas and pick up about well maybe regain what they lost on the previous play and there they were four-man rush man-to-man and a good adjustment right there by tomlin and keith butler and we'll see if that continues that that has to be the philosophy right now if you're butler if you're watching it's time this is too many drives right now you've given up too many wide open michael thomas the person there brees just sees it too quickly [Applause] trying to bust across brees directs and throws and incomplete again trying to somehow keep the feed in make a dive and catch his wide of the mark and the saints will punt for the first time with their long-time hunter thomas morestad it was close and it might have had a chance if he would have caught that right there because his feet were right on that edge breeze threw that ball so early he wanted him to turn around faster on that play the second longest saint by tenure behind brees moorstead hunts it and gets a beautiful bounce covered up covered up beautifully all the way down near the five by hardy after a 48-yard puck perfectly executed well just when we thought it was perfectly executed it wasn't after all there was a flag thrown well into that break as party came in from out of bounds was the first to touch it so it's illegal touching five yard mark off and a punt again yeah and that's if the crazy thing is if it's inside the five it's an actual touch back but if it's at like the six or seven where he was you just get five yards pittsburgh wants them to re-punt it then but if he would have been inside the five you just take it at the 20. he's definitely outside of it by just a fraction so the punt hits at the nine and it's even better in the end for the saints oh that's a there was hardy in the area to watch it and protect it just in case it took a kick toward the left that's what a boot by morstead oh talk about the punt perfectly i mean let's land it at the nine and bounce it to the three or two i mean that's that's a fantastic pylon cam right there not really sure how that affected much but i like it i'll tell you in the end though the saints benefited by five yards the old coffin corner kick as it is gotta watch it here pittsburgh jim loves to take chances coming out they like to get in these big formations you almost have to run it though with this crowd don't you that's what they're gonna do as they go with ridley out to about the nine well don't forget we were in denver when they got pinned at the three and they went 97 yards to smith schuster for a touchdown on a double move it was like who does this coming out that's exactly right that's why we referenced that i don't even know where we came up with that but you did nice job smith schuster remembers it you can bet he's thinking about it right now give me a chance he's saying well this is probably the best team in the nfl coming out talking to randy thickner second and four as samuels is written down by davidson the amazing thing what samuels did last week against new england he had 142 yards on the ground it was his first 100 yard rushing performance at the pro level college level or high school level it never had one that's amazing since their last touchdown it's hard to do for a team with this much talent ability but like i said they're coming out which means they're backed up in their own end zone they score more than anybody else in these situations they get out of their own end zone third and two pulled down by brown and out of bounds antonio brown able to make a play he's been anxious for one you know it as he shakes hands with feetner his offensive coordinator thank you very much for calling my number this is this really is uncoverable vladimir is in perfect position roethlisberger throws a perfect back shoulder and brown plays vladimir to be like oh the ball's not coming and then stop my body go up and get it like it was just a throw catch on air high high level quarterback receiver play right there so they're able to work their way out of that jam starting to drive back at the three and now looking downfield for smith schuster and it's out of pounds some serious air under that pass [Applause] yeah before that last throw to antonio brown it only caught the one pass behind the line of scrimmage and by the way with his two catches in this game he has uh set the record now that belonged to west welker for the most catches by any player in history in the league over a six-year span well you know he's every year he's the guy runs double this is great roethlisberger sees a corner on the running back he knows it's zone he wants to get this ball underneath quickly it goes to brown with a blocker in front and picks up 11. he saw when he caught it that ramon foster was over there to help [Applause] foster's the left guard he's gonna get out he's gonna pretend like i'm gonna block a lineman and then go on out and get a linebacker creating the lane for brown new set of downs at the 49. on the slant there goes smith schuster and he's got a short gain only about three the verizon halftime report will be coming up shortly with jb and all the crew and the latest scores and highlights as well as playoff implications from the early action today week 16 around the league what a thrilling set of games we've already watched today the giants colts game that houston philadelphia down to the wire finish won by the eagles all that coming up verizon halftime report second and seven fires it and it's brown now starting to heat up in front of lattimore [Applause] a great job by design so when antonio brown comes down into the slaughter basically it's hard to double team with both those two guys because he's inside so he runs wide and runs to the sideline latimer can't get that much help because he goes across the field quickly he's got to cover him and you're not going to bring that safety out of the middle of the field three catches by a b on this drive for 48 yards and here's the delay give samuels somersaults down to about the 33 tripped up by pj williams well ben is getting on the line of scrimmage and looking at the defense and calling the plays and when there's two safeties way deep that means he runs it when one of them gets way down there he wants to throw it now he goes empty now he's gonna look at pressure or not is anybody pressuring no i like this play here we go so second and five got to pick up the god killman as he does still has that enemy goes down he was down davison got to him this is an outstanding play by davidson 95. he fights his way through underneath right there and he grabs the heel you know they always talk about how hard it is to bring down big ben you got to grab an ankle that's what it is you got to be underneath him or he can't see it and pull his back heel outstanding play by davidson two-minute warning you're watching the nfl on cbs that sack in all likelihood took him out of field goal range if they don't gain anything here tony it's huge with their kicking situation it's pretty far i think they got to get some yards i'd have told roethlisberger coming out listen we need at least five we can go for it give us a chance to go for it on fourth down or kick the field goal so out of the gun fire zed pulled down again it's brown who's having a big series his fourth catch on a drive that began back at the three well it's the zone blitz and he goes up and finds a curl and the timing of that route and throw ben kept his eyes down in the middle of the field and then turns and fires now you have all the time pittsburgh you do not want new orleans i would run the ball on first down here you have so much time first down from the 23 and a little miscommunication trying to throw it in the direction of juju smith schuster again jb and phil coach cower nate and boomer they're all getting set for the verizon halftime report i know there's a lot of information out there that you seek and they will deliver it shortly on the verizon halftime report saints trying to win and get the number one seed in the nfc steelers trying to win and stay on top in the afc north here's the second and ten samuels nowhere to go against that stout rush defense it's it's why you run it yeah the saints exactly right they should have called time out there and they did that's why you're running on first down though because they only have two left you got to make them use it either right away well done by the saints [Applause] all right coming out of the timeout called by the saints the steelers have a third and nine they've kept the football now for five and a half minutes on this drive here comes the blitz pass away in the end zone tipped away and a flag is thrown at the goal line well this is the matchup that's very difficult for new orleans can't put latimer on both guys smith schuster outstanding second receiver for any team in the nfl [Applause] defense automatic first down and eli who's who's done a good job you know solid job but right there that's a pedal you can't put your arm around him and keep waving your hand in his body and they say the contact happened at the two so it's spotted at the two not the one 20-yard penalty ridley comes into the backfield for pittsburgh roethlisberger still has it in traffic flings it just throwing it away with cam jordan closing in on him jordan comes from the outside and swims the ridley and just loads something that's ben right there [Applause] yeah ben just two weeks removed from bruce ribs out in oakland they're bruised again no question second and goal again ridley is the running back oh and roethlisberger falling on the handoff and able to keep it clean on the exchange i'm surprised takes the tackle i'm i'm surprised you see ben's foot watch his foot coming out from center right there it always happens the guard right next to you de castro yes the castro right there and he does a great job protecting the football but i'm surprised the saints didn't call timeout i guess they did call timeout it's a time-out because of an injured player all right okafor [Applause] well that's going to cost him a timeout it's the same as taking it but to me that's what they should have done right away after the play you stop it what was on the clock there had to be around 50 some seconds what do you think now how many times on this drive the steelers have worked their way out of third and long this is third and goal from the three and they're a great red zone team yep 15th play of this drive they've gone 94 yards to this point that's incredible they need two and a half to take it home roethlisberger swings it over wide open samuels with the touchdown this is a complete miscommunication by new orleans a fantastic play design by the way they're going for two but if you look to the right no one's covering samuels [Applause] there's not a lot of defenses that completely vacate a side of the field and don't cover someone in man but that was just a miscommunication on the part they're going for two try and tie in the game the touchdown looked like the chargers two-point successful play at kansas city now they need to drop one of their own to tie it well they're looking right now is he one on one nope then i got to go somewhere else quick pass caught and they are able to take it home with eli rogers for the two and this game is tied at 14 with 40 seconds to go in the first half we'll be back in 30 seconds after this from progressive insurance [Applause] well that drive was 15 plays 97 yards actually there was a 16th play with the two-point conversion which was also a success and suddenly the game is all square remember yesterday talking to randy feekner the offensive coordinator we kind of mentioned this a little earlier he goes i think we just haven't played our best game we haven't really done everything he goes you know what kind of talent i see and what our abilities are we've come out and scored five touchdowns on coming out plays most teams you're trying to get one first down to get touchdowns 97 yards i mean that's really hard to do and they're they're as well as anybody coming out in the nfl by the way it was their first touchdown in 71 minutes of action going back to last week and here's the what the quarterbacks have done today they're both playing well and right now you can see this game has come down to in some ways a penalty or two has helped so the yardage doesn't look as good for breeze there because he's gotten a few on on that and then two dpis and of course that was the one called against uh apple as well so here's brees with no timeout sliding catch and he got out that's again with the reception well you're thinking field goal when you get under you know a minute when you've got about 50 seconds 40 seconds you're thinking field goal is the goal here to get a touchdown means something would really have to go your way but you can still throw it over the middle of the field you're just trying to get to the 40-yard line here's brees stepping up got hit and williams swallows up the receiver and watson with the grab that was coming in on brees he's gotta get up and snap this now and now you got to get out of bounds or you're going to get up and clock it but you got to get field goal range if you're going to clock it it's camaro get out tiptoeing what a run my goodness what a throw or what a decision by come here i mean and run watch this right here nope nope and just to jump just look at how smooth he is well now it's a field that should be on the 30 there was he out at the 30. that's close wasn't it yeah they got on the 25 they're kicking the field goal this needs to be checked though but you know what i guess it doesn't need to be let's just kick it and then i have 43 yards it'll be will lutz currently has made the streak of 25 consecutive field goals and uh again a booth booth review coming on exactly what we saw did he step out earlier [Applause] it looked like he might have stepped out to 30 right there right yeah that's tough that's tough to tell hill's not down that's see if we can tell from this angle the previous player is under a view can't tell there it's awfully close [Applause] [Applause] this is the maybe the best angle on it right here again say definitively that he's on the white line hard to tell it's there be a difference of five yards if they decide to move it back [Applause] i don't think you can change it there's nothing definitive there i think you got to stick with it and then i think that you chris will lutz is saying what difference does it make to me i've made my last but he's made five in a row his last five from outside of 50. he's made 25 in a row overall which is tied for the all-time saints team record with the great morton anderson wow so he can set the saints franchise record with a make yeah for consecutive makes i wish you wouldn't have said that though because at the 25-yard line there's a good chance every week you do this oh it's 80 and it's on me whoever that kicker is i want you to know you can overcome this we'll see it he's he's been fantastic you're right what was the numbers over 50 yards he's made his last five consecutive from 50 plus and last 25 overall this from 43. oh and the steelers came barreling across but lutz was able to knock it through there is a flag this might be like the end of the steelers chargers game where the steelers were off sides a couple of times this time though there was four of them offsides that game there was only one they're going to decline this if you're new orleans no reason obviously to offside defense number 23. the field goal is good the penalty will be enforced on the kickoff well that's a half two teams both playing high level football a lot of stuff going on quarterbacks both playing well well here's a little look back at a super bowl that took place right here in new orleans super bowl nine to lane stadium and it was supposed to be played at the superdome but it wasn't quite ready yet and it ended up being the steelers vikings the steelers won it in damp cold conditions 16-6 for the franchise's first super bowl title superdome ended up opening in august later that year that game you just saw was on january the 12th of 1975. and we're 42 days away 42 days away from atlanta georgia super bowl 53. [Music] it's gonna be a big one i tell you with all these teams there's a lot of teams who can get there though aren't there it's tough to go through new orleans but there's you look at that afc side it is wide open it's wide open more than most years you know with new england showing signs you know that it's just not quite going to be as easy for them although they moved up to the two line today with their win and houston's loss all right they kept the second on the clock samuels smothers it up but ben can come out for one kneel down i suspect and we'll send it to the verizon halftime report after that what a play though by camara so sleek the way he runs and just is just grace it's a great term for it too it's just i mean we can talk about smooth and all those things he does he's got this like like we say it's just a rare gift that's hard to describe he senses he feels and it looks effortless and all the great players make things look look easy and he's a classic example great half of football here saints lead it at the intermission 17-14 halftime is next after these first half highlights from verizon and a word from your local station [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 17-14 the lut's field goal with a couple of seconds to go gives the saints the lead heading to the second hampshire advanced tony romo tracy wilson down on the field saints get the football to start the second half yeah and i think like we said at the end of the first half i think pittsburgh needs to not blitz anymore i think it's time now to actually say let's rush four guys make these guys beat us slowly up and down the field and you know really new orleans just needs to keep running the ball and then i think once they see that pittsburgh does that you got to take shots down the field then you're not going to just matriculate down the field slowly when they're rushing for where's that matriculate down the field comment first came into uh football lexicon right here in new orleans super bowl four hank strand is mike for that game chiefs against the vikings let's go down to tracy let's matriculate down to the sideline thanks a lot tim i spoke with mike tomlin at halftime he was pleased with that final touchdown drive he said if they can continue to do that it will take the environment out of the equation penalties frustrating they need to play a cleaner game and defensively i did ask him will he continue to pressure he said we will pressure some and we'll cover some we'll just continue to mix it up jim all right speaking of super bowl winning coaches both of these of course have won the ring two of the seven active nfl head coaches with super bowl titles brees takes the first snap second half gives it right away to ingram for a loss of one busting across to it with the tackle first half yardage was pretty even even half all the way around except time of possession was so much put together by pittsburgh on that 97-yard drive as far as time and performance total yards was 194 190 steelers and that calm the crowd down on that drive when you have a big drive that lasts a long time you can really take the energy out of the stadium and that's what pittsburgh they got to get off to a good start here in the second half just like the first half over to camara look at him again slip right past the tackler and race down the sideline he just turns on the afterburners when he senses or feels someone's right around him ready to make a tackle he could turn it up a notch like he did right here sean davis has camaro and he tries to hide on breeze he's like oh i don't have him i don't have him bree says you're in the wrong position and he throws it to him quickly and you see the speed and grace that you called it yes by camaro there and that is the worst case scenario for pittsburgh starting off because that's going to get this crowd right back in the game that little pass goes for 42 and now from the 34. they go ingram on the ground for a couple what a powerful tandem you got here a one-two punch each finding the end zone already in this game [Applause] ladies double swords [Applause] goes down after three steelers made contact with him including watt picks up five michael thomas he's just put together such a spectacular year it's a second round pick out of ohio state all three seasons at least 90 catches over 1100 yards he's just a rare talent with that size and you can play him inside he's always around the line of scrimmage and then he plays outside and then he's back playing a tight end spot he's a smart guy with a great feel a great range catch radius here's the third and three and tamara gets tackled right away by hilton but it's a first down for the saints it's an old staple of ernie zampesi they call it the zampeezy route which means a route runner whether it's a receiver or running back is gonna go whoop and then come right back underneath and so the receiver gets to go i'm running out wide i'm running out wide and then the defensive guy goes i'm going to go cover you and you come right back underneath him and the quarterback throws it it's like a little slap but he'll make him feel outside first sam peasy zampeezy have to do to complete that one and move the chains and now ball tipped up in the air and look at brees watch what he does here to prevent the interception that was gonna get picked a hundred percent that ball was falling right into the lap and watch the heady play because it's gonna fall into hilton's lap there's hilton right there he's gonna go catch it and breeze goes right in there and hits it down now you can see just his brain how fast it works through progressions and everything and you see it right there going to get that ball and saving the turnover 15 completions and one pass defensed by brees who splits out wide as taysom hill comes in count the numbers in the box there's five rushers if there's five guys they're going to run this ball they go now comes they got him camaro met by vince williams did you see how pittsburgh central at the last moment they're like okay go ahead and call your play there we got five guys here you got five linemen and we know you're gonna run the ball and then wham here comes the two outside rushers right after they make their play call [Applause] now brees returns to the quarterback position third down snap oh a screen here a swing pass maybe to camara he's already worked on this drive once chased by burnett and thomas able to keep his footing for the first down you're gonna see him come right across the field and bree sees the internal pressure and he can't throw it to camaro right away who had a route right in the flight he was looking to but the pressure comes from the inside and really that was all brees running from the pressure and creating it thomas now with seven catches for 87 yards first and goal from the eight england cuts outside gets around hayden goes for the pylon and they say he's out one official pointing at the one-yard line [Applause] we'll mark it just outside the one it's a poor angle by hayden he's got complete outside contain and it's oh boy the ball came out yeah but it did not go out through the end zone how many times we've seen that play kick in this year it went out of bounds on the other side of the pylon it's a great tackle on the edge to keep him out of the end zone and he was not in the end zone hayden takes a bad angle but he does come back and make the play now here you go where usually pittsburgh sells out stop the run here second and goals and stop short ingram third and a half yard from the end zone [Music] [Applause] thomas coming back in romero's coming in yeah the formation i'm like are they going to try and spread them out from the water they're going to stick with the big guys actually they look what they marked it they marked it outside of the one i thought they were about halfway [Applause] touchdown camaro just leaping you said over the top and he's got that ability to do look at that just see he can torch that body just yeah it goes in sideways yeah it's like it's like you could feel that guy hitting his leg over here and makes all those things look real easy and simple and it's just a rare gift and you see brees coaching him up i love that [Applause] what a drive to open up the second half now you're going to hear this crowd when pittsburgh comes back in this game that's why that camaro big play on the sideline and lutz converts 75 yards to open up the third quarter converting three times on third down the 42 set it up by camaro and then he took it the final yard [Music] back in new orleans where the saints have now increased the lead to 10 [Applause] behind two alvin kamara touchdowns in this game [Applause] and this will not be run back tracy down to you well thanks a lot jim former saints star steve gleason was given the highest civilian honor this week when he was awarded the congressional gold medal gleeson was diagnosed with als in 2011 has been such an advocate for those with a disease he's inspired so many raised millions of dollars for research he issued a statement after learning of the nomination said i am honored and accept the gold medal for all the families who have been diagnosed with als as well as anyone struggling to overcome life's inevitable adversities he's an american hero what a wonderful thing to see him be awarded that congressional medal and as the pass is caught by smith schuster and he's able to race out of a couple of tackles and pick up about 15. they got to check though a penalty marker is down on the far side by the way gleason becomes the first football player the first nfl player to ever get the congressional gold medal in just the eighth individual athletes wow to be honored i can tell you they're an eligible man downfield offense number 53 it's a five-yard penalty you play first down timer please reset the game clock to nine minutes three seconds and there are the athletes to receive the congressional gold medal jack nicklaus the most recent athlete to get it just a couple of years back roberto clementi joe lewis jesse owens jackie robinson byron nelson arne and jack and now steve gleason the first recipient ever by the way was george washington only been 150 roughly ever to be recognized now here's roethlisberger getting away from the heat and finding against miss schuster somehow he bounces off of two hits and picks up another 12. it's a fantastic job roethlisberg but watch right here in the middle smith schuster is going to get a pop-out defensive tackle and when he does he sees davidson he's got to move around and then rothersburger finds him and that's really what you're having to stop right now is the extra time plays that rothersburg is creating this is why the empty sets the spread out sets and now we're into the five wide receiver set with switzer in the backfield it's just hard it's the second and three they faked the switzer and now roethlisberger plants defeat and fires and again smith schuster the last time they had it it was antonio brown's drive this one has the makings of belonging to smith schuster 23 for that one you're going to see a fake and then he's going to pin the end right here that pin by smith schuster gives roethlisberger time and then ben's able to just pump jordan and find the open man it's a lot of ad libbing but they got great matchups because there's so many wide-outs on the field and back to gleason real quick i didn't get a chance to say what an honor unbelievable i mean just incredible what he's done for the city he'll be remembered here forever his family will always be remembered here's the pass to antonio brown racing into the secondary trying to cut it away from pj williams who was able to trip him after 17. and sure enough once you start getting beat on the ad lib you're going to pressure and new orleans decides to come after ben and that's right when you hit him with a screen perfectly timed gives you a pause to d coordinator doesn't it for dennis sounds like i pressure once and it's a screenplay of course don't forget the last time they had the football they drove 97 yards for a touchdown and now they're on the move again here we go you're right and this offense is starting to find its rhythm that five rides last week you started to see it a little bit defining an identity from the 28. yeah that pass thrown in the area of antonio brown there was good pressure applied yeah and the pressure was huge because rogers had a touchdown he became wide open right after but cam jordan got that pressure and he's been in on a couple of plays of course he was in the news a little bit this week with some remarks that were not so flattering about ben roethlisberger saying that he didn't think he was one of the top five quarterbacks of his era didn't think it was a hall of famer basically is the short of it well he's he's wrong he's way wrong that ben is a hall of famer and he's you know he's gonna go down as you know obviously an incredible quarterback in the sport he wants one more super bowl that's what he said yesterday and he's got a shot to do it they can get in the playoffs this year there's a completion for a first down to antonio brown so we asked we asked roethlisberger last night as you see this pass on the mark just a simple curl route right in front of latimer's zone coverage and what were you saying then we asked ben about the comments and he said you know the only thing i'll say and he really truly said he doesn't lose any sleepover stuff like that but he said i'm just a little surprised you would think he'd respect the game war having grown up around the sport as dad of course steve jordan had played in the league had a great career of his own he said you know why it's just not necessary what he felt here's a little bubble screen to switzer down to the three [Music] [Applause] yeah and that thing you're right jim just their ability to you know the veterans it's a screen to switzer inside right here and right there talking about jordan he gets he takes the cheese and goes up field and that's one of the better screen teams in the league this team pittsburgh and you're taking looking at two teams actually there are two of the better screen teams all right they're gonna go with their five wide from the three first and goal trying to answer back off the saints touchdown drive to open the corner back in the end zone and that's off the one hand of antonio brown [Applause] well this is a really interesting coverage that i haven't seen a lot you look at the safety in the corner you're like okay he's gonna double team but watch when brown goes inside he passes him off and now the safety has to cover him and now banjo has to run with him and ben just missed him he was open he ran right past him i'd come right back to this same type of thing and be like you want to keep doing that we'll put antonio brown on your safety second and goal browns line up on the right side nothing's burger floats it and threw it away from all the pressure mcdonald was in the area [Applause] outstanding job by new orleans creating the pressure making ben move out of the pocket and also plastering they call it the receivers they truly doubled antonio on that play and they truly plastered which means they were on top of them up into them holding them almost right on the leverage side that they needed the whole time third and goal monster play this crowd is going to be loud ben doesn't he's got a signal he doesn't know what the route is that's hayward bay and samuels is on the field brown for the touchdown how did he get that open communication this is twice now new orleans what a play by brown they're running a pick inside but watch vladimir's on him and then lets him go pj williams is covering smith schuster inside and it's a pick play and they're using brown to pick for him the problem is pj williams has to communicate with latimer and vice versa one of them is wrong extra point by boswell so touchdown drives for each side brown with his 14th touchdown reception of the season and now we're reestablishing a team record with 14. [Music] yes some of the great images inside the dome here in new orleans what a game saints leading at 24-21 as boswell earns another touchback camaro though having a huge day tony with a couple of touchdowns well he's a match-up nightmare and if you're not in your position sean davis trying to hide from brees but he knows the leverage instantly and then you see here it's like okay get outside you got to sprint and run that time davis and that time you didn't want to get beat outside so it cuts right back under this is what makes it difficult sean payton's ability to get these guys in space it's rare that's he's got a special knack for this and it's uh you give him talent like that you're gonna see a dynamic offense like two eight left two eight left ready [Applause] out into the open and that's gonna be good for a first down triplon smith is looking quiet late in the year afc playoff picture again kansas city at seattle tonight and new england with its win over buffalo moves up to the two houston drops back to the three and there's pittsburgh again if the steelers lose they move out of the top six and baltimore moves up to the four a win here and they stay in front of the ravens in the afc north so what you're saying is it's a big game yeah yeah okay ready [Applause] and they get to him for the first time today cam hayward and tj watts uh it's you see just coverage on the outside is good but ultimately it's the pressure up front breeze had to throw this ball and he didn't have time it's an extra lineman and watt comes in and takes care of it really by himself hayward inside but block goes right around flat for the sack should they give it to what he's now got 12 on the season [Applause] falls out incomplete hayden scoops it up anyway that was watt who delivered the blow on ingram and he's slow to get to his feet well and i like the defensive call by pittsburgh just a three-man rush so brees goes through all the progressions he's like i gotta throw to the back just a rally tackle and i don't think it was a catch either [Applause] i don't think he possessed it yet made a football move no bang bang play he's up moving around though looks like he's running the sideline and watt what back-to-back plays he's made [Applause] he's had a sack in a game this year he's got 12 total sacks on the season a couple of multi-sack games the steelers record is 6-0-1 they haven't lost [Applause] resetting the clock here late in the third we showed you the afc playoff picture the saints it's a little simpler a win and they're the one and they could go in the next week and they could rest their starters against carolina and that's we talked about it at the opening coming through new orleans the toughest place you know to have to go through you could give seattle there'd be up there obviously every team has a home field advantage but new orleans is just drastic for the way they style that they play their team the way it's built this year too it's just it's gonna be very difficult this is a this is a game that sean peyton stressed to his team not to take lightly they're on him again and a second sack in three plays to it and dupree people are open but to it the interior the pressure watch the middle of the pocket right here just gets pushed right back by twoit i mean just pushing the center guard right back into his lap and people were open there if brees would have had time he was gonna have an option did they make any adjustments defensively to get that kind of pressure on those two plays well yeah they stopped blitzing so he could get his ball out of his hand but they've only pressured once i want to say so far in this half it's really working other than a play drew brees trying to check out what happened aerial coverage of today's game is provided by state farm back here with our producer jim rickoff along with ryan calvin our director mike arneau as they know him around here or mike arnold in other parts ah that was a reference to our dinner yes last night dinner a feast it was fantastic first and ten directing and firing and completing to antonio brown all the way down to the new orleans 40. straight cover two which means the corners are in the flat safeties are high and once you give rothersburger that much time ben's gonna tell the receiver what to do come on back and then he fires that ball antonio brought the ad-libbing that roethlisberger is doing is carrying them on the road right now it's it's really impressive and he keeps doing it hard not to make a mistake at some point if you do that the whole football game we'll see how that plays out first down lobs smith schuster switzer up there throwing a block and they're back inside the red zone in a hurry too 26 to brown then 20 to juju well this is the key it's just the blocking for everybody to allow ben pressure's coming who are you going to pick up right there you pick up the most dangerous guy who can get to ben and he felt the pressure and gets it out of his hands quickly and smith schuster does the rest this is surprising new orleans is struggling to stop somebody i mean this doesn't happen at home very often end zone bound what a catch they're both came down they say out this is unbelievable this is the i mean the throw is absolutely perfect the catch is absolutely perfect the defense is absolutely perfect and is he in one oh that looks out oh my goodness that was one of the funnest plays to watch look at this i got it yup ah you got to be more aware ap when you catch it with one hand like that uh when you turn your head for a second that is a lot to put in your head though when you're ripping it in with one hand uh off the little tap step he would have had the touchdown incredibly high level football being played right now by these football teams timeout call by the steelers come on back inside the timeouts are even loud here it was loud when we were gone and it's louder now they feel it don't they oh second and ten from the 20 last minute of the third pass to the end zone pull down touchdown antonio brown for the second time today to come out with this play and this design it's gonna be hard to describe to this year but this was coming out they thought they would get a double t man antonio brown and they do but it's not the double you normally see they go bracket in and out one guy is inside one guy's outside so what you do as a quarterback is say run right between them an extra point delivered again by boswell and that bracket coverage usually takes you off people because any route that breaks in or out but if you run right between them you run through the guys and you'll see him go right up this spot and the safety's trying to design or trying to hide where he's at but that's the one way to beat what we call bracket coverage you're bracketing that guy and beautifully designed coming out of the timeout wow they knew what they were getting and then they went out and just executed it and that becomes a record-setting throw for the pittsburgh franchise as brees premises for a second a 33rd touchdown pass of the season for roethlisberger he breaks his own team record of 32 in a season with three today 33 on the year and he's thrown for 146 yards in this quarter yeah he's put he's put his team on his back i can tell you that right now in this football game the receivers are playing well but he's really this is one of the finest performances in a tough environment against a good defense you know he's played a lot of big games and this is another one in that long list but there's a good chance he's gonna have to continue doing this because you know new orleans is gonna put some points on the board again right at some point in this game there's some more scoring to be had here there's a few more trips up and down the field you gotta think for each side is freeze had to feel very good about things after that first drive to start the third quarter right down the field 75 yards but steelers come back with two drives of their own and there's an immediate hit on camaro at the line mike hilton coming up to help make that play well hilton pressures more than like anybody at the nickel corner which you know he's usually covered in the slot and when he's in there i mean he had 68 pressures coming into this game and that's exactly why they pressure him they wait for the snap he hides it really well and he goes in and tackles the running back and you're like oh we're not supposed to run it when he's blitzing but you can't tell he's got great mannerisms [Applause] second and nine open across the middle it's thomas and tripped up about two yards short of the first which could be the last play of the third the third and two coming up [Applause] we are going to head to the fourth another good quarter of action in the books 15 minutes to go down to new orleans pittsburgh leads it 15 minutes to go to help really shape what the playoff scenarios are going into the last week of the regular season saints trying to clinch the one seed in the nfc would do so with a win pittsburgh trying to hold up baltimore and keep that slim lead in the afc north with a win here's the pass down to field and it's broken up by burnett that was a third down play kirkwood's going up really a fantastic play by burnett burnett [Applause] and these safeties they use burnett like a swiss army knife they call it you know he's all over the place they play him at linebacker he might match up on a running back then he plays safety the next week and then he's playing corner over the nickel and he's pressuring it's just it's a huge advantage it's why pittsburgh does so many different things there's more stead and the high kick demands the fair catch at the 25 42-yard punt on that occasion we can't give you the exact times this is going to be the rubik's cube at the nfl offices on park avenue trying to figure out where to go with building a double header on both of the sunday afternoon networks but that's the lineup of afc games for next week and uh once we get through week 16 maybe even by the end of tonight they'll have a chance to check your local listings and find the game and time in your area i can tell you this jb and the crew will be waiting for you at noon next sunday with the nfl today yeah i like it jim sell that promo on that cbs pre-game show here we go with the lead and the ball the handoff actually the toss samuels dives ahead for a good drive starter in a game in those seven i tell you that their ability to run the ball they've had these leads and we had them last week and we were talking about that three-game losing streak before the new england game they got all these leads in that second half and they lost them fourth quarters they just doomed in the fourth and i thought it was just your ability to close teams out with the leads sometimes can come down to just your ability to run the football and minimize the game when they know you have the lead if you can do that they wore them down these guys have had to play a lot of plays they can do that they'll win this football game you saw connor still out with a high ankle sprain on the sideline samuel bounces off the hit and that second effort by the rookie picks up the first down that's one of his best effort plays of the day in the fourth quarter this is where defenses start to get a little wore down and really just second effort see him running right into the back of the castro but still trying to fight for the first down yardage and he does and just like you said that extra effort gets it oh could be killing the play sees the pressure up the middle stays on the ground samuels able to break free for another 10. he got away from vaughn bell [Applause] and it's a handoff to the right he's the pressure in the middle so he's like i'm not going to run it weak they have too many guys let's run it strong kill kill kill run it strong and samuels puts that head down that's hard run and that's fourth quarter running right there where you can go ahead and close teams out with long drives that's three straight running plays second and one and a little bit oh what a hit they're lucky that ball didn't come out it looked like he was about to did eli rogers with the catch but the blow delivered by bell now bell's out in front rogers comes across and he's waiting right he's proud of him and that's a worst boy the helmet hit the ball and somehow he was able to squeeze it against the shoulder pad the side of it and pick up the first down oh go ahead jeff they did not run the football once in the third quarter all pass plays somebody must have told him now they've run it four out of five pass play sideline brown with a catch you really can't let brown keep beating you like this it's a it's a double but it's just a perfect throw i mean look at that throw it's an inch over bell's hand it's on the sideline it's gonna get difficult here at the end because they're gonna have to leave ground one on one and pittsburgh knows it and these safeties are gonna start coming down right here at some point to stop the run screen pass samuels he gets hit from behind that actually pushes him ahead for another couple and they pick up six or seven so you take the steelers look what they've done they had the 97-yard touchdown again engineered by featner and others the 97-yard touchdown at the end of the first half two drives in the third quarter both for touchdowns and they're driving again so they have not been stopped in a long time this is ben roethlisberger just in the zone every throw is the perfect touch he's got perfect trajectory and he knows where to go with the ball and then he's carrying his team by moving around and finding a guy late second and three samuels patient he dies for about one maybe two third and short coming up from about the 34-yard line and new orleans is fine if they can hold them to a field goal attempt you got drew brees on that other side they're not going away this environment's not going to get all of a sudden easy and quiet here oh speak of it third and two oh this starts to feel pretty big now they got ridley into the game as running back everyone in tight it's ridley nowhere saints think the football came out well they didn't blow the whistle this is gonna be real interesting okafor has the football you didn't hear a whistle either it's hard to hear anything in here but that it didn't sound like they blew it dead how are you gonna hear a whistle in here i can't hear you it is a fumble by ridley and this is one thing that plagued him in early years with the patriots oh i think that ball did come out you could see him look back as soon as he goes down and this view right here look at right there this is knee down oh can't tell from there he does look back there but once you got an elbow may have been down as well it's hard to even see where he said there we go oh the ball that's where it got the knee looked down but the problem is that punch happens before the knees down but had he lost control of it of course all turnovers are reviewed and this will be a big one [Music] on the field is a fumble genes territory you've seen it what do you think i think that uh i think they're going to keep and go stands with this one jim there is one angle there that we can see and we've got a great angle right the one that you're looking at right now where that ball appears to be punched out right before that right knee hits the ground on the field it is in fact a fumble and the saints take over ridley who had six fumbles his last two seasons when he was with the patriots coughs it up here in the fourth what a big-time play by coleman pittsburgh was eating the clock they were driving i don't like the play call though jim that's one thing that's gonna get lost in that shuffle against the number one ranked run defense in the league and it wasn't third inches you got a full two yards at least and we got a pre-snap call coming against the saints for five start offense number nine five-yard penalty when you saw the formation and everyone in tight you never believed they were going to be able to get that two yards no and steven ridley is not happy and you're i don't i didn't i was like there's no way you can run this number one like that's not you don't go against their strength and he should be upset that's a play that if they lose this football game that's what you're going to look back to right there again feet were down they say right in front of the pittsburgh bench one tap at two he's in look at these quarterbacks are playing outstanding football too as a fan you should be enjoying watching as a team rooney for your team you should be in complete anguish right now and he's able to get just across for a first [Applause] he sees the safeties on him he knows it's man-to-man here's a first down pass to an open target and hilton finally able to take down keith kirkwood but it picks up 23. breeze finds the open man it's a busted coverage kirkwood in the slot watch right here because kamara swings out you're going to see the defender take off off kirkwood and just leave him he was guessing that that ball was going to go right to camaro [Applause] saints going without their left tackle armstead who was injured in the first half came back for a while but he's missed time here in the second half so they put andrus pete at left camaro out of steeler on him right away t.j watts as we approach eight minutes to go [Applause] i think there are a few folks watching the baltimore right now oh look at that that's really cool we have to repair the ridley helmet after he slammed it to the ground the problem is what happens if you got the ball right back you've eliminated yourself from going in the game when you break your helmet on the sideline second to none [Applause] pocket sealed gives him time flag is out back in the offensive backfield holding off number 75. and the call is on the man who got moved to left tackle pete with armstead out we just mentioned there had been a shift watch pete he's gonna set and then he grabs right there and that's the right call hayward gets around him [Applause] and he didn't even have to that ball was out and armstead again coming back today after missing the last five games with injuries and was not able to last too long in this one [Applause] second and 19. taken back to the 40 off the penalty rushing three pass to ingram steelers hold them to an eight yard gain it'll be third and long third and about 11 maybe ten well here comes the call of the game that was a good job by brees getting in manageable situation third down and ten this is where both teams are going to call their best play that they've run since training camp your season's almost on the line for pittsburgh in some ways you can obviously overcome it get the ball back if they score whatever but you're going with what you believe in in your system intercourse and on offense new orleans this has got to be a camaro thomas type play camaro not being in the game probably minimizes him thomas on the right side on third and 10. watt coming in jump pass incomplete intended for watson there was pressure that affected the throw he didn't have time to wait for thomas who was coming open freeze does a good job getting it out of his hands this is a late option that he has to throw because the pressure and the right tackle it's watt who does it they're gonna attempt pressure a long field goal here we're gonna go for the 50-yard field goal attempt [Applause] with lutz who's already in this game set the saints consecutive make record as also as we told you made five straight from 50 plus this is 50 on the nose lj forks i don't think they're offsides this time either look at the block right up the middle pittsburgh with the ball back [Music] back inside steeler football ridley who was in agony after losing a fumble but saved by the play fort with the block fort with the big time block but you just mentioned it you saw watt pushing will clap down on the other side big time play by a star defensive end which allowed ford to be able to get that yep open lane a little throw to brown for a gain of about six maybe seven but that's that's where special teams i mean you can win games if you get people to play with that kind of effort ford [Applause] and watt you know your best outside pass rusher to be able to commit and go that hard i mean you just bowl over a guy and it can help you win new orleans needs a stop pittsburgh needs a big play the last play went for five the blitzing and they get to ruthless burger who holds on to the football even though demario davis was trying his best to not only sack him but take the ball out demario davis comes right up the gap and there wasn't many people open but you couldn't tell if you're roethlisberger shooter eventually gets open because demario davis runs right by samuels he missed him yeah that happened once last week too he gave up that interior pressure that is twice in two weeks and that one was costly we missed van noy last week yup let's go scot-free here's the third and 14. brown cuts it back gonna be stopped short three and out for pittsburgh simple screenplay to brown wide receiver screen over the middle everyone else goes up and blocks and drew brees the nfl all-time leader in every single thing ever here or shortly will be before his career might be over he's getting a chance at the ball not that it's anywhere close to being over even though he turns 40 on january the 15th the week between divisionals and the nfc championship game oh they run the fake the fake is short with knicks the saints stop him what a call my gosh with four minutes to go nick thinks he has it he's celebrating but the saves converge he's short what a decision to go with the fake punt with four minutes to go on fourth and five and they're stopped a full yard short well mike tomlin knows how important it is to stop breester's tennis team but look at this what a gutsy call with your season on the line and here's the interesting first down everyone i did it and then everyone's like yeah then you walk over like you're like you're a full yard and a half short well he gave it a great second effort because the saints the likes of robertson and banjo they were on him quickly and he fought for every inch but he still didn't have enough so breeze takes over at the 46. this i mean that call the guts to do that i mean i love your guts boy you really want your defense you saw how passionate he was talking to this team coming out on that field pass complete to hill for five well pittsburgh they pressured on that down expect it to continue until they get down inside the 20. [Applause] you don't see mike tomlin you know that into it he's always into the game everybody's cool he's a very cool customer he knows he's ramped up he knows how important that play was and now his drive on their football team in season breeze pass good for the first down again clock running with three and change to go saints have all three timeouts pittsburgh with two [Applause] again pittsburgh with if it loses here baltimore takes the lead and pittsburgh falls behind everybody in that whole wild card scenario they move out of the top six yep you're exactly right just well documented how important it is pressure breeze incomplete looking for camara [Applause] hilton was there for the coverage it's now time to pressure drew brees and make the ball come out of his hand instantly don't let him use his instincts to go through five progressions in two seconds i want to get the ball out of his hands make him throw quickly and play tight man coverage and just sprinkle in who the guy is that you're helping on one plate's camaro the next play it's thomas you're not going to double them both when you're coming after him but you can help on one of the two second and ten the rest of the 34 of pittsburgh here comes the pressure he's able to slide away from it for a moment now backpedaling and throwing it away third and ten coming up [Applause] brees looking through the progression everyone's got man on it and you saw the pressure up middle by hayward and watt and nothing there febreze makes the smart decision third down now new orleans here has to chip or do something with watt on the edge allow breeze to have a little bit of time you got to chip on the edge of the line do not let 90 affect this game right here he's been in that backfield a lot in this half step it up on third and short of the first thomas with the catch it will be fourth down fourth and a long two if i'm new orleans i get up on this ball right away you have a two minute warning you still have three timeouts there's a ton they're gonna take it down to the two minute but if you love a play as a quarterback you can get right on that ball and get ready and you're like listen if i get my best player one on one and i see the coverage you snap it throw him a slant throw him something like that sean payton wants to come up with the perfect play here and they're going to take the time to think about it yeah they'll have the time to do that two minutes to go you're watching the nfl on cbs [Music] here's the play of the day and one that could affect a lot of seasons fourth and two motion and camaro they got a corner on them and a game that has seen past interference calls two for each side is going to have a third on the day against pittsburgh to keep the saints alive and it's identified is obviously happy with the call but right here tough to tell from that view i do think he grabbed him from the backside what you do with that motion is you motion kamir out you see it's man-to-man and you throw a slant to your best player thomas good job by drew brees and sean payton coming up with the correct play versus the correct coverage and then it comes down to whether your guy pittsburgh can defend him hill in the game takes some hill he sent him out to the left side [Applause] give it to camaro hayward has hold of him another flag is down holding offense number 71 10 yard penalty still first down does it feel a little bit like last week when we're at heinz field and patriots are going down at the end of the game trying to find a way to tie it in that case but had all those throws from this part of the field at the end of the game it does have that feeling and a late holding call too and ramchek right there that hold that hold against new england last week was huge like you just said cost them right at the end much harder is it harder to get 20 yards than 10 i don't know what do you think i think it is and right now as a quarterback you want to be thinking in your brain i don't need to get 20 yards here just keep efficiently moving the ball you got four downs not three first and 20. they blitz they go down the field and it's incomplete and no flag sensible on the coverage again it's a great technique sensible don't give up the big play but right there again he tries to turn back and breeze thought he was going down the field if brees could do that one over he'd throw the back shoulder on that one because gin was ready for it now it's second and twenty [Applause] oh this is drew brees over there though it feels like you got to do something special to stop them pittsburgh rushes five he's able to get it away and has dropped the rookie kirkwood was wide open kirkwood is going to come right in the middle of the field brees does an unbelievable job sliding in the pocket finding the opening and hitting him in the chest oh that's just a dagger third and 20. they had a lot of heat on brees that last down you cut the tension in here you feel this they're not pressuring him breeze knows it there's the throw wide open it's again down to the eighth pittsburgh should use the timeout right now pittsburgh what a play by brees drops back slides it and then fires the end route and this time ted ginn comes up with it and i love that great job by mike tomlin give him credit right there that timeout was exactly what you should do most teams they get rattled by that not mike tomlin left with one [Applause] again tonight on cbs begins with 60 minutes followed by a new episode of madame secretary plus god friended me and ncis los angeles tonight only cbs so they pick up 25 on third and 20. and it was a perfect play call what you do is you send these there's three receivers on one side of the field right or a tight end and two series you send the two inside guys right up the field and the outside guy comes underneath him at about 15 to 20 yards and the quarterback fires it in there like he's been doing for years but now inside the 10 things get more difficult let's see what play design they have [Applause] first and goal quick pass caught down to the one it was thomas with the catch and pittsburgh takes its last timeout smart again that was a simple run play that the quarterback can throw a quick little route on the back side if he sees he's one on one they actually spot the ball the length of a football inside of the [Applause] two if you're in new orleans you got to score a touchdown no matter what so you're not thinking about the clock or the time right here but in a perfect world you'd score on third down after like a run for a yard right here's a second and goal brees looking to throw now unloads it was again did he cross the plane no and he's in the field of play so that will run the clock thomas with the grab oh oh that's a touchdown it's a touchdown that's going to be a touchdown for the saints that's also going to get pittsburgh time to do something you're exactly right drew brees was getting ready to throw it thomas couldn't get his eyes around for the fade fast enough and then he comes back on really see how he slips right there thomas slips then he comes back and that's gonna that's gonna be a touchdown and new orleans is gonna take the lead here's the pylon camera you can see he's right on the stripe he's got possession right there crosses the plane that's going to be a touchdown the ruling on the field was outside of the end zone but he secured it i mean i think that's tough the only way you wouldn't would be what didn't have control of the ball maybe that would be the only way until he was outside of it they would have to say but it almost looked like it just velcroed against his shoulder pad the catch was immediate james territory is there any doubt about that to be a touchdown i think it's definitely going to be a touchdown jim and actually as we look at this although i know in pittsburgh's case they probably want to wait until it's never a touchdown for their time's sake but if you rewind now they're going to reset this game clock to one minute and 25 seconds if they do rule this touchdown which i believe so pittsburgh actually ends up with a minute and 25 seconds to keep this game moving so the drive that felt inevitable in this fourth quarter they were gonna have one scoring drive right he just knew that brees would do it one time and it came off though a stop on a fake punch on a short field which this is they're taking a while though that that makes me feel like this could be in they might be just trying to figure out the time on the clock gene what do you think that would be my thinking jim and it would go to one minute 25 seconds from what i've seen let's hear what craig rose drew brees does it again [Music] i want you to know this play was disrupted thomas slips it's supposed to be a fade and brees then rolls out and sees him come back and throws it right away and possibly gives new orleans the number one seed in the nfc this year still plenty of time for pittsburgh to do something extra point makes it three and now boswell [Music] might be a man called on to try to send the game to overtime if roethlisberger can get him in position we asked tracy did a great job she asked mike tomlin yesterday and that production means she goes any feelings of nervousness to send him out there any kind of feelings that would be like i just i don't trust it or i don't i don't love it and he goes we don't play that way we don't think that way i sent him out there i'm expecting him to go out and make the kick he's not going to tell us if he does anyway well he's going to have to send him out there to go make the case i promise you the steeler nation would be pretty nervous about it but they'd like to have that chance he would take it right now [Applause] i think ben roethlisberger today has played one of his more complete football games if they lose this it'll get lost in the shuffle but he has played one of the best games i've seen him play in a tough environment against a great defense he's 30 for 43 for 340 yards three touchdowns hasn't really made a poor decision and he's carried him on big third downs he's gonna have to do it one more time jim or they're probably not making the playoffs switzer just behind the line takes the knee and the drive will start at the 25. [Applause] there was movement offense number 84. you can hear this place nobody for pittsburgh can communicate with each other right now it's all hand first signals 15. rushing five pass lobbed over the top and it's incomplete going for washington [Applause] you're going to see new orleans i'd be shocked if ap and smash schuster are not doubled on every single play for the first two or three plays here these safeties are going to be looking exactly where they're both at second and 15. steps up from the pressure now throws it at the last minute he threw it into the ground as he saw at the fender about to jump the route so he'll be third and 15. ben roethlisberger needs to get him on the line look at what they're in assess if they're gonna pressure or not okay they're not pressuring here's the call i might use the double team against him let him run through and bring him underneath third down they go deep receiver falls and no flag that's two of the three plays the pass has gone in the direction of james washington it was not quite a pass today and it comes down to this play now to keep it alive the reason he's gonna have to go to him double team double team you can't throw to smith schuster and antonio brown it's gonna have to go to one of the other guys that's why washington has to come up big on this play right here right now he's one on one fourth and 15. roethlisberger throws caught saints say it was not caught officials say yes it was brown with the grab [Music] he's in bounce yes he is does he hold he drags it and the right foot was planted that's a catch brown comes back from the double team all the way back to the sideline it's gonna it looks like it's gonna be a booth review but pretty clear evidence that brown made a a great play and so did roethlisberger [Applause] and that gives pittsburgh a little time while they look it over to get organized he secures it [Applause] right foot planet i don't think there's a bobble there you see one i don't think so i think this is going to stand gene's territory you see anything there to overturn if there is a little bobble he still has possession left football and that left foot drag with those black pellets we call that smoke there's a little smoke with the left drag the right foot planet it's a good catch i love learning the cool lingo for these guys what a play routers burger buying time on the sidelines there's wall stead on the field this confirmed it is a catch at the sideline in the first down pittsburgh still a long way to go though yeah but fourth and 15 conversions roethlisberger just one of those days he's in the zone it's just he's gonna find a way it just feels like based on those kind of days now if you're new orleans does that change do you now come after him or do you keep double teaming here's the blitz middle of the field smith schuster has it at the 47 of the saints [Applause] they're coming up to clock it spiking the ball to stop the clock at 45 seconds you're not so sure about that huh you just you're not in a big rush right at that point to me you have the defense on the heels it's really not that different of calling a play and snapping it's an extra three or four seconds and they don't get a chance to regroup and get different personnel in or anything you still need i would think at least six yards to have a realistic shot obviously the target's the 35 yard line but you can kick it from the 40 to 43 ish his career long is 53 with 45 seconds to go on second down down the middle and flags come out mcdonald was interfered with before the past is thrown illegal contact defense number 47. that's a five yard penalty and an automatic first down and zelone had hands on him past five yards but not a pass interference and illegal contact yeah just put it to the 42. [Applause] oh and they're going five wides oh this is on the drive of your season and they're going with something that came up with last week here we go comes out smith schuster coughed it up flags out they still haven't made a signal whether it's a fumble or not they haven't they haven't signaled who's got the ball they're calling them down it looks like they're calling them down oh this is huge looked like he was on top of the defender it was a catch and a fumble recovered by new orleans after the play personal foul new orleans number 94. the 15-yard penalty first down to orders it's a screen and smith schuster has it and let's see if this ball he's on top of the player that is never on the ground rankings rips the ball out davis comes over to fall on it i don't see anything that tells me he's down before this one more time let's see right here left knee nope oh i think that's gonna be a fumble oh new orleans is gonna kiss this fumble confirmed upstairs what a play by rankins to poke his hand in there and get the ball out and secure the number one seed jim saints are the first seed in the nfc and now the steelers the penalties declined the steelers will have to win next sunday at home against cincinnati and have cleveland which won today and is surging and it's 500 on the season at 7-7-1 the steelers will need the browns to beat baltimore in baltimore coupled with their win they would have to have against cincinnati who would have thought pittsburgh season is relied on cleveland browns and a cleveland team who can win a type of game like that now you couldn't have said that a few years ago or last year wow this game was an incredible football game well they were in field goal range with the cat they were there you can't even look back to anything before that they were in position boy it's gonna be tough for anyone to come in here and beat the new orleans saints come play off time and if pittsburgh misses the playoffs and they're on the outside looking in how devastating to know that your football team is this good and you can go in here and possibly win this last week beat new england control the games against good teams it's just tough one
