hi everybody Mary again from quilting on the square and today we're going to show you how to make our pick 12 quilt pattern it's very simple very fast very easy it gets its name because the lab size version uses 12 v quarters so pick 12 this is it's a little hard to see in here this is one of the blocks this is the lab size it's three blocks across by four blocks down it's fast it's easy the only seems you have to match up are right here where you should sew your rows together so that makes it nice and fast and easy this quilt here is our option one version it uses just all fat quarters and you see these little cross strips in here they're all different they're all part of the fat quarters that we chose the original twelve fat quarters over here now we've taken the block even though this is a throw here's four blocks sewn together as just a table topper and this is our pick one version so we just pick one fabric that all of these bars are going to be this is the table topper and here's a bed runner so this is just four blocks that one is one two three four five blocks on that one and somewhere around here we have a little table topper also if you wanted you could have borders to this or you can just quilt it and put the binding on and call it good so option one all fat quarters option two the pick one option which means one additional fabric and there's your block it's a big sixteen and a half by 16 and a half inch block the pic twelve pattern itself does have directions on how to make it from a throw quilt all the way up to a king-size quilt and how many fat quarters you're going to need to be able to accomplish that so it couldn't be faster it couldn't be easier the pattern is available on our website we will have a link below in the description if you're interested in that so there we go pick twelve okay to start to make your pick twelve pattern you need a bundle of twelve fat quarters felt 12 v quarters that coordinate with each other are perfect dig through your stash I'm sure you've got some fat quarters there that'll work the quilt with 12 fat quarters the pattern does come in multiple sizes from a throw which is twelve fat quarters it's 48 by 65 all the way up to a king-size quilt and all the fat quarter requirements are there as well as the layout for the throw we're going to lay three blocks across by four blocks down generally a fat quarter is 18 inches by 22 inches not all fat quarters may be exactly 22 inches just letting you know that you take your fat quarters and I like to stack up multiple layers for this one I'm just going to stack up two layers of fat quarters and we're going to cut three four and a half inch pieces and three two and a half inch pieces so here's my four and a half inch mark on my ruler and I'm going to come in just a little bit from that Salvage edge so I get rid of that and I'm gonna cut that four and a half inch and what I do with this first piece then is I just turn it around and keep my edges even and I trim this now to be four and a half inches and then I get rid of this so there is my first four and a half inch slice I'm going to make a second four and a half inch slice just get that out of the way and a third four and a half inch slice there we go let me get them out of the way and now we're going to cut three two and a half inch strips now remember I said not all fat quarters are created equal this one here is not quite two and a half inches so I may have to add another piece in to make that work can you see that just hang on to this so we're gonna stack all these up from this third strip of the two and a half we're going to cut this at 16 and a half inches and so there's my sixteen and a half inch mark I'm gonna line that up with the top flip it over and do 16 half inches again and we're gonna put all these in a separate pile now all my fat quarters are cut and I just stack them up in piles and kind of mix them up a little bit and I like to stack them up in front of me a fat one a skinny one a fat one a skinny one and a fat one because that's the way we're going to sew these together and then back here which I'm saving for later are my sixteen and a half by two and a half inch strips that I cut so all you do is you sew a big one to a little one a big one to a little one sew those together and add this and just try to keep it as scrappy as you can so you don't have maybe the same fabrics in each block that you make so here we are these have been sewn together and you can see there's a fat one a skinny one a fat one it's getting one in a fat one fat one skinny one fat one skinny one fat one you get the idea so once we make all B's we're gonna trim these up these have been pressed I do like to press my seams in towards the skinny one now we're going to cut this block into two seven and a half by 16 and a half this should measure sixteen and a half this way and we're going to cut it into two seven and a half by sixteen and a half inch slices now I don't have a seven and a half inch ruler so I'm going to use my mat and so I'm gonna line up with the seven and a half inch on my ruler and I'm gonna make my first slice now you see I'm overhung here a little bit because I'm gonna come back and clean that up but seven and a half and seven and a half is 15 and I'm just gonna slide over to the 15 and make this slice got this seven and a half I'm gonna turn this around and I'm gonna clean up this edge so I've lined this edge up right along the zero line and I'm going to come in here and I'm going to trim this to seven and a half there we go I really need to change this rotary blade so here we have two seven and a half inch pieces I'm going to go ahead and cut another one if you work better the other way you could start at 15 there's my 15 my 7 and a half and my 0 so you do end up with these little pieces left over at the end I'm sure you guys can come up with something to make with those I think if you just evened them up and sewed them all together they look kind of cute so here's what I have now and you're going to do this you're using 12 fat quarters you're gonna have 12 blocks like this that you're gonna cut apart so you're gonna take that 16 and a half inch strip kind of like this blue one and you're gonna sew this together so I'm going to take the 16 1/2 inch strip and I'm going to sew one of these segments on this side in another segment on this side now if you want a real scrappy look you could mix these up like this if you'd like it to be a little more consistent you can just sew both of those together like that so here's the block I've sewn together this one has the orange in the center and you can see I kind of went consist with mine and then here's another one and to make your quilt you simply sew these blocks together you just twist them so one of these 16 and 1/2 inch strips will go up the next one will go across so the only seems you have to match or when you put your rows together these corner seams so it's just really a very quick easy quilt to make and you can make it in a multiple multitude of sizes and it's a great way I know we've got fat quarters laying around I know I do just to pull them out and put something together they make great throw quilts you know and you can make them all the way up to a king size quilt you can do whatever you want um we'll get this all sewn together and I'll come back and show you what it looks like when I have all the blocks made but we do hope that you like this video we do hope that you'll subscribe to our channel tell your friends about our channel we do have the pic twelve pattern is available there's a link on our website so this is available you could purchase this it has both the options in it the option one which is just fat quarters in the option two which uses another fabric for the 16 and a half inch strips that's it and we'll be back here in just a minute to show you what the finished quilt hope you enjoyed it we're back and we finished our quilt now you can see instead of making it the 3 by 4 layout I went ahead and made it a 3 by 3 layout I thought this would be a great little quilt just to have in the car for the kids to use it's been quilted we put some fleece on the back so it'll be super warm and then what we did with these 3 extra blocks they've been quilted so and I'm going to turn these into some pillows so I think that will be fun three little throw pillows and a little real tiny lap quilt for the kids so we hope you enjoy the pattern we hope you make it if you do send us pictures of what you do with it we'd love to see them you all have a good day
