but um i wanted them uh my two daughters adriana and catherine to have a respect uh for art and what the process is well let's take a look at a tape uh that will kind of give us more understanding of that my daughter catherine was born to be a performer are we gonna have a great show today i'm a singer actress and vocal coach so catherine was exposed to performance from a very young age catherine's talent caught the eye of managers and agents early on but i felt it was important for her to wait for the right time to start her career catherine wasn't homeschooled i wanted her to have a well-rounded life with friends who had all kinds of interests catherine studied acting singing and dance for years so by the time she was launched into stardom on american idol she was well prepared to handle her celebrity one of the best things i ever did for catherine was to teach her to respect her art she learned that her talent is a gift and a responsibility [Music] so tell me as a mother uh and as a vocal coach what was it like to see your daughter skyrocket into the american idol uh hall of fame here it was a wonderful experience uh but the one thing that i always have taught catherine and and wanted her to know is to not strive to be a star or a celebrity and when when you strive just to be a celebrity and you don't have uh attention to the focus of of the skills and and what it takes uh to endure and have a long career because really i think that's what i'm sure all the parents here want for their children
