This might be Pearl Jam's best song.

I don't remember exactly where this took place - somewhere on the west coast, either CA or WA. Anyway, there was a group of young adults who were walking through something like a botanical garden or a wooded area where they lived. As they were walking, they were singing "Black" together.

Supposedly, Eddie Vedder showed up out of nowhere and asked them to stop singing the song, as it was very personal to him.

I remember this story vividly, but I don't remember if it was something I read or something I saw on MTV.

EDIT - Found it - it was from a Rolling Stone article. It's talked about in the 17th paragraph.

EDIT#2 - If you're a PJ fan, please take the time to read this Rolling Stone article. It's from 1993, right as "Vs." was coming out. It's interesting to read how Vedder and the rest of PJ were reacting to the sudden fame they were getting, and how they felt it was affecting them personally as well as the band itself. Very cool read, considering their status as more-or-less "elder statesmen" of rock music today. I'm really glad that Pearl Jam survived the 90s.

One of my favorite versions of this is on Live at Benaroya Hall. The crowd sings "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life..." And it's pure goosebumps.

Edit: Found it, if anybody would like a listen. https://youtu.be/lcEeRbr_oYw

This song single handedly helped me get over an ex gf which I dated for 2 years. To me, its the most powerful and uplifting song and one that defines Pearl Jam as a rock legend

Huge Pearl Jam fan checking in here. This is hands down my favorite song. The raw emotion and story of unrequited love is so powerful.

A very powerful song about Heart Break and Lost Love. I liked this song the first time I ever heard it.

This song still gets me right in the heart.

I was one of the lucky 1300+ people in the Moore Theater, Jan '92. Best concert EVER, bar none. Ten is still my all time favorite album.
