I used to think Eddie Vedder had a grating voice but with time and listening to more and more of PJ I ended up with a deep appreciation for his singing and how raw it is and how much emotion it carries. This is the kind of band you need to listen to and not just βhearβ.
this song kills my soul every time i hear it
Damn Eddie Vedder is HOT AF. Never knew.
You ever see a dude and just imagine how insanely laid they were?
I don't remember what song it was during but I remember being 13 years old watching this and really admiring him because at one point he rolled up his sleeve and wrote "pro-choice" on his arm.
Great song, always loved this version. Still pissed about my two PJ shows being cancelled this year. Goddamn you pandemic.
Itβs a bitter song, but that was -really- palpable. Thank you!
Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did
All five horizons revolved around her soul as the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn, ooh
And all I taught her was everything
Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything
Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black
Tattooed everything
I take a walk outside, I'm surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear Oh and twisted thoughts that spin 'round my head
I'm spinning, oh I'm spinning, how quick the sun can drop away
And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything All the pictures have all been washed in black
Tattooed everything
All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll be yeah
Oh oh ooh
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, oh can't it be mine?
Ooh, ah yeah, ah ooh
Always wonder about Vedder. A lot of guys from his scene didn't make it through, and have become immortalized. Meanwhile, Eddie has demons, like everyone else, watches his friends go, and just keeps plugging away. Didn't think about it until I grew up, but I respect and like PJ more than Nirvana, STP, Soundgarden, etc, which wasn't the case when I was younger. Saw a documentary a few years ago, too, where Eddie and some people talk about the show they did where the security guard was getting rough with the concert-goers, and he flipped a switch and came out of his shell. He killed the Into the Wild soundtrack, too. Guy is incredible and talented, but I can't help but feel that he gets put on the backburner too much, because of odd circumstances. I have a soft spot in my heart for Grohl, too, but (don't kill me, reddit), I liked him better earlier in FF. Haven't liked much, lately, and he rubs me the wrong way in interviews. But, hey, another guy who's seen a lot, and I don't know his life.
