good day folks and welcome back to the channel one of the biggest losses I probably ever took in this business is back when czs first came out CZ is a cubic zonian which is a man-made substitute for a diamond nobody knew about them and they tested as Diamond so me and everybody else in the industry bought a bunch of them I lost close to 253,000 on that today we'll show you the best moments when Pawn Stars lost a fortune in deals okay 19th century strong box El's Fargo they were necessary because you know you were handling currency you were handling gold you're handling silver you couldn't ship that unless it's shipped in a strong box so first things first have you already bought this that sounds bad I've already bought it I don't have good news for you this is a complete fantasy piece it's a complete fake it's one of the most faked items out there Wells Fargo was always Wells Fargo and Company Express never Wells Fargo Express even the lock is a modern one this is a type that they never had but it ain't a $450 box I thought it was fake to start with well then why didn't you say anything I didn't want to bust your bubble what so you let me spend the money instead now I can holler at you Vick flick guitar pwn Stars lost a fortune in the involving a 1961 Fender Stratocaster guitar brought in by Victor Studio musician oh this is your guitar yes okay it's a 1961 Fender Stratocaster my earliest memories of you know when I was a kid you know watching old videos of jimmi Hendricks play a white early 60s um Stratocaster but he played it upside down so where did you get this thing this guitar has been with me for years I've worked on records with uh Nancy sinatro and patula Clark Tom Jones It's Not Unusual all right so were you like a studio I was I was from 1958 till about 1983 I actually worked a little bit with the Beatles You probably might have heard of the film hard days night yeah well when Ringo's walking around at the end of that film this guitar is playing Ringo's theme which is the one he's walking about to so it does it does have quite a good history the guitar initially Peak Rick's interest due to its association with jimmi Hendricks but disappointment follow when it was revealed that Vic flick the owner likes significant musical Renown I have a partial list of the the records that I played on this is how many albums you've been on well albums and films and this is your name right here Vic flick Vic flick that's my name yeah so you worked on Films too I worked on Films I worked on Goldfinger the James Bond actually played the James Bond theme which uh you you played the James Bond theme yes so how how much you looking to get out of it $70,000 it it's a 61 strats and that makes it worth five figures I mean the low five figures by itself I'm going to call someone up who knows everything about guitar knows everything in the world about music I'm just basically going to ask him is does your name make it worth that much oh I see okay you know this guy yeah this is the guy that Jimmy pige would look over his shoulder in the studio and like figure out what he was doing so he could honor to meet you honor to meet you thank you J so I basically need to know this being his guitar obviously a very influential guy in the music industry so what do you think it's worth you know a really good condition 61 and Olympic White probably be about a $35,000 guitar on its own let alone with the pedigree of this guitar you've heard this guitar probably more times than you even realize you've heard this particular guitar probably true yeah I could see this going to a collector at auction easily easily 60 $70,000 okay well thanks a lot man Rick purchased the guitar for $55,000 and attempted to sell it in a shop for 90,000 but it failed to find a buyer we take 50 grand for it I'm looking more towards the 70 maybe 65 I it's nothing personal I'm just thinking I mean you're sort of a rock star and that that's my quandry when I go to sell this um you go 60 I would go $55,000 I I I think that's a fair price I take all the risk all right do yeah okay let's go do some paperwork Co in a last Stitch effort Rick decided to off the iconic instrument but the final Hammer price was a mere 20,000 this unfortunate turn of events resulted in a staggering loss of $35,000 for Pawn Stars signed Godfather script The Godfather a renowned 1972 crime drama film gross a staggering $286 million solidifying Marlon Brando's legendary status and launching Al Pacino's career when a seller brought an original script signed by Pacino to the shop it Peak their interest I have a script of The Godfather okay it came with a picture of The Godfather and an autograph Insight signed by Al you think it's the AL we're both thinking of yeah it's got a name in Bost on the front Robert Evans to authenticate the signature a handwriting expert was consulted who confirmed the script's originality and vouch for the signature's authenticity estimating its value between $1,000 and $2,000 what do we got here a script from the godfa signed by Al most of the time Pacino only signed with Al he didn't sign his last name unless it was a contract or a letter that he was sending to somebody very formal what I'm looking at here signs of forgery where there'd be some pauses some stops and starts in the signature and what I'm seeing is a really good flow all the signatures that I've seen of Pacino they have that little extra Loop in the middle that Loop is there and the way it connects to the L is consistent with his known signature based on the circumstances this is alucino signature wow that's great all right so what's alucino signature worth on a script well I'd say you know a high retail would be a couple thousand that at auction it might bring $1,000 thanks a lot man appreciate it take care thank you however Rick offered a mere 500 causing the seller to decline the deal I'm going to make you an offer you can't refuse okay okay 500 bucks 500 not a, huh no I mean the thing is it's not an original script 500 bucks I think it's a fair price so $500 is the best you can do you can't shoot any higher than that the best offer I can do it really is okay thanks thanks for your time all right well thanks for bringing it in than you later the seller discover the script fetch $122,000 at an auction shockingly it was revealed that the signature belonged to producer Al grubby rendering the pon Shop's valuation inaccurate and raising questions about the expert's professionalism Gibson mandolin in a memorable episode of Pawn Stars Chum Lee often portrayed as a somewhat hapless character found himself at the Helm of the shop while Rick and Cor you were away during their absence a customer named Mark arrived with a vintage Gibson mandolin he had scored at a yard sale arboring hopes to making a tidy profit I have a Gibson mandolin I decided to come to the pawn shop today to sell my vintage Gibson mandolin I picked it up at a yard sale I'm looking to sell it today because I'd like to take the family on a trip to Ireland I know the name Gibson so I took a Gamble and thought I would pick it up and hopefully I can make some money off it all right well let me call my boss over here hey Rick Cory Rick I guess no one's here no I know a little bit about these things they're from the early 1930s the thing that makes this mandolin special is that Gibson made it it's in great condition you can see the craftsmanship on it is phenomenal yeah that's the one thing about these Gibsons you know they only use the best parts right I see the sticker in there tells me that this is authentic encouraged by his colleagues prior interest in a similar mandolin Chum exceeded his ,000 purchase limit and agreed to buy the mandolin for $1,500 Rick doesn't like when I'm make big buys when he's not around but he also doesn't like losing out on easy money my spinning limit's like 1,000 bucks but I think this thing might be worth risking a little bit more what are you trying to get for it well I'd like to get three grand out of if I could would you be willing to go any less cuz normally you know actually have a spinning limit of 1,000 bucks I'm not supposed to go any higher than that it's not the end of the world for me if I don't sell it I don't mind walking out of here with it how about 1,300 what do you say $1 1895 you're killing me man that's going to sit on my show for a while I'll go 14 and that's pushing the barrel I tell you what 1,500 and we got a deal 15 sounds fair I can make a Prof all right that sounds good I appreciate it hey check out what I brought down today mandolin huh but I thought I'd get it all checked out by you D there dismay it was later revealed that the mandolin was a cleverly crafted counterfeit valued at a mere $100 there's a couple things here the decal you can see where it was cut out with some scissors on this mandolin it would have been inlaid or silk screened it wouldn't even have been a decal and it's not even a g that Gibson ever used you got your decal in there like a Gibson but it's not the right decal and the Finish is like plastic Gibsons are covered in a lacquer finish and this pit guard is totally wrong it's something Gibson never even used this is fake as hell man I just paid $1,500 for that ouch is it worth anything yeah maybe about $ 100 bucks all right yeah dude sorry about that thanks for the bad news call me anytime you got any questions dude this costly oversight resulted in Pawn Stars losing a substantial sum of $1,400 well as Fargo strong box despite his intelligence and success in the pond business Rick occasionally errors when assessing valuable items such a situation arose when a customer named Bill walked into the store offering a Wells Fargo ball and chain that seemed to advance for its purported historical era what do we have here well we got a Wells Fargo strong box and some antique ball and chain I come to the pawn shop to day to sell my strong box ball and chain and handcuffs I do a lot of treasure hunting I'm looking to get around $2,000 for everything the least I would take is probably around 18 all right well tell me about these things this ball and chain right here uh actually comes from the human prison it's oldest prison in state of Arizona yeah opened in the 1870s originally it was a Territorial Prison Arizona wasn't even a state when it opened up right this one right here it comes from falson prison from around the late 1800s 1900s here's my concerns when they forged chains back in the 1800s it was just hot welding together you know get it hot beat it together 1800s they didn't have arc welding it was all done by a blacksmith that's why I have a problem with these chains they're electrically welded see how these have arcs from an arc welder sure okay okay and my other big concern never in the history of any prison did they ever have their name put on the balls okay so what are you trying to say it's fake what what makes you an expert on this stuff I've been buying and selling this stuff my entire life the manufacturers who made these things work going to change the die for every prison it's only fakes that have that period yeah but the Box might be real the handles I mean that's classic American cast iron probably from Chicago you my big problem is we have a box full of fake stuff gives me real doubt about the Box this stuff was not inside the box I actually just bought it all and I put it in the Box all right so that makes a lot more sense that's makes me feel a lot better about the Box despite harboring suspicions Rick opted to acquire for $450 box I'll give you 400 bucks for it I want $1,200 for it no you don't I'll give you 400 bucks for the box and I will get one of my guys to help you carry all the stuff out 800 I just don't see me getting that kind of money out of it I I see me getting 600 bucks maybe I'd like to at least get $500 for it I'll meet you in the middle of 450 okay all right yeah for a little filthy hey thank you sir all right thank you very much unfortunately a subsequent examining by Mark revealed it to be a fake with no intrinsic value okay 19th century strong box El's Fargo they were necessary because you know you were handling currency you were handling gold you're handling silver you couldn't ship that unless it's shipped in a strong box so first things first have you already bought this that sounds bad I've already bought it I don't have good news for you this is a complete fanty scps it's a complete fake it's one of the most faked items out there Wells Fargo was always Wells Fargo and Company Express never Wells Fargo Express even the lock is a modern one this is a type that they never had but it ain't a $450 box I thought it was fake to start with well then why didn't you say anything I didn't want to bust your bubble what so you let me spend the money instead now I can holl at you pawn star suffered a significant loss due to this gamble as the item ultimately proved to have no value at all Rick's decision to take the risk ended up costing the shop a substantial amount of money highlighting the unpredictable nature of the pond business Shelby Donald Duck bicycle Rick couldn't resist the chance to acquire a 1949 Shelby Donald Duck bicycle when he stumbled upon it for sale what do you have there my boss is going to love this I'll tell you what let's get it out of the parking lot come with me all right hey RI this is absolutely great I'm at the pawn shop today to try to sell my Shelby Donald Duck bicycle I have a small Disney collection and when I saw this on a obscure website I thought I had to have it and I grabbed it turns out that it's a small child's bike I'm asking $3,000 for it because I've seen other bikes in lesser condition sell for more if I'm able to make the sale today I'd like to buy the bike that I originally wanted which is an adult-sized bike that Shelby also made yeah so this is Shelby the they started in the 1890s but in the 20s the owner had a brilliant idea he made a bicycle that was modeled after Lindberg and it sold like hot cakes so it started making a lot of different themed bicycles like this and this was their biggest seller the tank needs to be restored cuz the colors are all screwed up there we have to get um the rear tail light rechromed and Donald Duck's face I don't know if that's actually cracked or that's paint I know the most popular one the one that goes for the big money nowadays is the Lindberg one did uh the Lindberg eyes light up when he wrote it um I don't know because his does without seeking expert authentication or conducting research on its authenticity his excitement led him to make a quick purchase at $2,250 how much do you want for it I'd like to get 3,000 for it a few years ago one of these sold at a big auction for 4,000 bucks this one's in amazing shape but there are some issues with it I give, 1500 no I don't think I can do that what's the best you can do I do 2,800 2,000 2,000 is a fair price you do 2,400 2250 and I'm crazy at that price I'm going to walk at that price I mean I really can't go anymore okay I'll take that all right 2250 we got a deal come with me we'll do some paperwork following the acquisition Rick had the bicycle undergo repairs including the installation of a horn and liting which total to $350 quack quack dude hey Rick how you doing this what I called you about very cool Shelby bike Donald Duck first I would uh give Donald some plastic surgery and uh weld up his face repaint him uh then I'd work on that tank does the horn or the headlights work I don't know I'm afraid to open that up cuz every time I see these old gas tanks I always have corroded batteries on them probably have to rewire it probably have to clean up the battery box get the lights working and then you'll be set to go okay um this impulse buy ultimately set Rick back 2600 so how much I'm feeling 350 well that would be amazing cuz I paid 2250 for it plus 350 I'll be in at 2600 00 and if it's really pretty I'll get 4 or 5,000 out of this right well they'll be beating down the door for it all right cool so I can pick it up tomorrow oh yeah maybe today 4:00 uh give me about a week okay all right I'll see you next week B all right take care Rick jump what's up check this out is that the Donald Duck bike Rick you never told me you were getting this thing fixed up Donald Duck said is fine did you get the horn to work of course what about the eyes do they light up kind of looks evil with the eyes LIT All right so I'll be in a 2600 and I should get 5,000 of it right however the mechanic later broke the disappointing news that the bicycle was a counterfeit resulting in a substantial loss well I got some bad news it's not a true Donald it's a clone it's a fake Donald Duck bike well if you look underneath you'll find the serial number and it says Shelby Co but also the first two numbers are 53 and that was 1953 Shelby only made this bike in 1949 now I'd be lucky to get 1,000 bucks I'll be honest with you put the name tribute bike on it and you'll get more than a thousand who fakes a Donald Duck bike somebody who doesn't want to pay a few thousand doar for one I've been in this business for over 30 years I have never ever heard of a fake Donald Duck bike well you're the first one on your block take it for a ride maybe you'll enjoy it anyways we all make mistakes Rick it'll be okay despite the setback and the loss of funds Rick Resolute in his quest to add a genuine Shelby Donald Duck bicycle to his cherished collection cubic zironia the old man finally recalls a significant loss he endured during his time in the business it was a time when cubic zerconia CZ a synthetic diamond substitute had just enter the market catching Everyone by surprise one of the biggest losses I probably ever took in this business is back when CZ first came out these CZ gems had properties that mimic diamonds fooling even experts the old man along with many others in the industry invested heavily in them regrettably this decision proved to be a costly mistake as he suffered a loss of nearly $25,000 CZ is a cubic zonian which is a man-made substitute for a diamond nobody knew about them and they tested as Diamond so me and everybody else in the industry bought a bunch of them I lost close to 25 30,000 on that but it was a lesson learned however it remains a valuable lesson etched in his memory emphasizing the need for vigilance and staying informed in the constantly evolving business World a lesson he deeply Treasures silent scope 2 game in this episode Chum ventured to acquire a rare video game the owner BJ initially asked for $11,000 but through negotiations Chum Le secured the deal at 700 this unique find was a 2000 Konami silent scope accompanied by a full-size sniper rifle distinguished by its innovative zoom in view on a separate screen which was ahead of its time oh here you go oh wow this thing is pretty cool this is the 2000 Konami silent scope 2 goes by a dark silhouette it's got the full siiz sniper rifle on it awesome so where did you get this I actually ordered it while I was uh overseas in Afghanistan for a year to be waiting for me when I got back were you some kind of sniper in real life I called the guys down from the pawn shop today to check out my silent scope 2 dark silhouette video game I'm hoping to get $11,000 out of it today uh can go for a little bit more online but I really need to downsize and get out of my place to start grad school tell me about the game what exactly is the point of it well you're a sniper in different foreign territories just like real life one shot one kill you get a head shot it's over something really unique about this game in particular this really isn't a magnifying scope at all there's a separate little screen in there that gives you the zoom in view so this was pretty Advanced for its day back in 2000 you're pretty good you a natural shot um with a real gun yeah let's try it out go for the head shot that's the big points nice shot what are you looking to sell it for how much looking to get a th000 out of it I mean this game has its ups it has its Downs too I mean it's not high def it's in good condition but it still does have some wear and tear to it would you go 400 bucks 400 I can't do I mean online these are going upwards of $2,000 I tell you what I go to$ 800 for you you'd be helping me out by Tak head off my hands I'm not exactly here to help you out I mean I'll send my guys over in the morning to come pick it up if you can do 600 if you can do seven you got a deal if not I'm going to hold it for 700 bucks I think I can make a nice little profit on it all right you got yourself a game sounds like a deal however upon presenting his purchase to the shop the owners were unimpressed with the price he paid deeming it too high where you been you know was doing my thing out there crushing deals what' you buy video game what kind of video game silence scope I paid 700 bucks for it you should be able to make a little bit of money what's it worth probably 1,200 not you chum Cory what's that worth 700 on a good day why don't you call somebody Buddy you could have dropped a damn DME I mean you could have showed us the thing I could have told you ultimately this transaction proved to be a significant loss for Pawn Stars highlighting their misjudgment and valuing the item comic book collection Chelsea visited the shop with her late uncle's comic book collection I have my uncle's comic book collection he passed away and this was handed down to me they're all comic books all comic books this is pretty cool I'm at the pawn shop cuz where else are you going to take seven boxes of comic books and sell them I'm hoping that they're really valuable but I don't have the time to go through them all if I sell the comic books I'm probably going to spend the money taking my kids on vacation okay there some pretty cool stuff in here looks like a bunch of paper to me what do you mean bro have you ever heard of Doctor Strange no but I'm looking at strange Doctor Strange should be worth few hundred bucks on its own what else you got in here oh The X Force two this is like one of the first couple times Deadpool made his appearance in a comic book so you acting like you're an expert in this Chumley initially estimated the comics at 25 to. 75 cents each and offered $50 per box Chelsea insisted on receiving $2,000 for the collection I may not know everything about comic books but these Comics are priced between a quar and. 75 cents per book which means I can date them back to the 7 or ' 80s which means they're from the Bronze Age of comics and bronze is only two steps away from gold and there's seven boxes of these babies sometimes you can just fill the deal I think you have a pretty cool collection what exactly are you looking to get for him I'd like to get $2,000 well I can tell you that ain't going to happen even if there's $2,000 worth of comics here it's going to take a lot of time to go through all these boxes I give you 50 bucks a box that's 350 can you do 500 hoping for hidden Treasures chumble bought the collection for 500 would you go 450 on them 500 is going to be the lowest I can go life is about chances and sometimes you just got to take them I'm going to do the 500 I'm going to show everyone what an expert I really am I know there's going to be some good stuff in here meet you right over there to write it up thank you what did you two buy I didn't buy anything leave it up to your expert I bought these comics for 500 bucks when did you become an expert on comic books I only worked at the pawn shop for almost 15 years so just do me a favor and do call some someone to know something about comic books and find out if I just lost money upon closer examination shamley discovered the comics weren't as valuable as he'd hoped he sought expertise from Paul and appraiser who found that the 18 books he valuated were worth approximately $200 at retail while the remaining Comics held a mere 5cent value per book all right guys all right hey that's a nice little stack we got there yeah um I pulled about 18 books some really cool stuff yeah I said did pretty good um all right the big question what are they worth this stack I pulled is probably you know this is about 200 bucks retail and the other couple hundred lbs of comic books are worth uh about 5 cents a book if you're lucky it's like it's common stuff there's nothing highgrade nothing that's really worth getting certified how many of them are there 300 in a box so 2100 I'm not good at math but it seems like it's more than 500 so you spent 500 bucks on some comic books I'll be lucky to get like 80 bucks out of so they're basically worthless no they're not worthless thanks for stopping by man anytime appreciate it all right take care thanks for the bad news this purchase revealed a substantial loss for the pawn shop emphasizing the importance of professional appraisal in the comic book world this is where we'll end our video we hope you enjoyed watching it make sure to comment hit that like And subscribe button too hit that notification Bell for more
