osaka boasts almost a hundred michelin-starred restaurants but what draws people here from all over is its celebrated street food and it's street food on a whole different level to what paul's used to back home we have a lot of those trendy pop-up street food places in the uk selling speciality sausages or falafel wraps but traditional british street food is a burger van or a caravan doing donut kebabs after you've left the pub i like a hot dog would you like something hey when you're out doing a food tour you're on the pop as well are you oh yes this is the beauty of being a choir guy yeah absolutely yeah first up we tried gyoza gyoza are thin half steamed half fried pancakes stuffed with minced pork and veg i've had gyoza before i was familiar with them and i love them but these wow i mean that is absolutely delicious now another generally around japan eating and drinking on the streets is frowned upon but on the sucker it's actually encouraged right where are we going to next let's go to takoyaki octopus dumplings is it cooked it's cooked it's not a brawl i've had a lot of raw food takiyaki is apparently a sucker's famous food what it is is basically fish balls which are filled with octopus tentacles i love watching the way they form these balls just with the wooden skewer it was so fast and so depth did it and the most popular japanese people snack people say it's osaka people's soul food thank you it can be very hot please be careful really be careful oh wow [Music] [Laughter] it's literally lava you saw they cooked right yeah yeah so when i eat it i'll never be like anymore i'm used to it properly yeah you'll feel they taste amazing i mean the batter is very light on that oh yeah and the octopus inside is delicious go ahead i think i've lost the roof of my mouth it's now hanging in tatters i think beer would have got a beer [Music] [Applause] delicacy so what are we going to eat here though what what's the next dish we are going to have the whole mom means what's to be thrown away made from beef or pork offal it was invented in 1940s osaka at a time of widespread food shortages the first one here this is a small intestines and the other one is a cartridge of the sword [Music] so i'm guessing you know what wagyu beef is right it's famous globally as being the best beef in the world and osaka is slap bang in the middle of wagyu country but this is part of the cow i didn't think i was ever going to eat first up for paul intestines no i know he likes it the flavor is good the texture's a bit rubbery that's what we enjoy when you're chewing and chewing i can't wait to try the throat you'll try first you've not had this before have you read it it's really unique actually oh that's not a good word [Laughter] it's like chewing on a bit of rubber now can we please try and find some beef obviously yeah finally we were heading for wagyu hallelujah outside of japan the most famous type of wagyu is kobe beef and in osaka if you've got deep pockets you can buy the very best kobe beef from a street stall it's special i mean it's that marbley it looks like salmon and how much is that piece yeah ten thousand yen what's 70 quid 70 quid on street food you know how good it is right it's very very expensive i know that but wow i mean when you're in japan you've got to have it all wagyu meats are graded by experts a to c is the yield and one to five is the quality [Music] and there in a street stall in the middle of osaka is the best wagyu in the world a five i'm dribbling this is gonna be amazing [Music] wow look at that don't drop it back away back away okay guys yeah yeah wow wow wow that is stunning exactly more than anything one of my favorite cameramen here honestly when he eats this i know he's never added it like this before no yeah this this is for you now yeah there you go try that honestly now tell me that's not the best meat you've ever had yeah i'll be honest yeah quite a lot isn't it yeah that's incredible you don't chew it do you it falls to pieces do you know what was one of the best meals about in japan that on the street in osaka with a beer with my friends yeah yeah oh thank you for bringing me here thank you osaka come back thank you yeah
