what I've got here is a cutaway of a popper two-inch pump and a flow control valve now what the interesting thing about this is to differentiate it between the old cast-iron pumps this is a composite material which is basically a 50% fiber and nylon mix it's very strong non corrosive and it was developed as an engineering material over the last 15 years I knew quite a lot about the traditional Ram pumps and I also knew of the inadequacies that in the system the main problem with the traditional pump is the waste valve so what we've got here is a completely redesigned waste valve which uses a venturi effect so as you can see there's a curved surface on the back rather like an aeroplane wing gives an aeroplane lift what happens here as a water flows through it it accelerates quickly through this small gap causing low pressure on the back which causes a valve to shut very quickly and from an engineering point of view the well designed valve should be like it was a very small cross sectional area which is what we've been able to manage with this with its design here dairy farming it consumes a huge amount of water in milk production and and it represents a very big saving for us if we can use our natural resources to reduce our reliance on mains water the water they used to use was used for our booster set electric power booster set all of that is now gone with this system there is no huge there's no human interface whatsoever nor is there any external power supply no pneumatics hydraulics it's just the head of water off the top of the tank behind me feeding in my clothes pubs we pressurize back up to the top it works 24 hours a day we were looking at what we could save with our utilities because all the prices are going up all the time and the Pappa pups sounded too good to be true but they are working very well we would have paid as much out in mains water that would have covered the cost of the pumps in the first year getting something delivered for nothing once we've paid paid for the initial installation there's a no-brainer as far as we were concerned almost the filters are clean and what was going through it so it's just so simple you know and the water is delivered where we want it I've seen how easy it is to take water from a stream and use for irrigation purposes it's clean cheap way of moving water around the farms we're very pleased with that [Music]
