[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] hi folks and welcome back Maggie and I are out on an overnight camp tonight in my homemade Baker tents I've been really looking forward to this camp I made the Baker tent a couple of weeks ago but haven't had a chance to really try it out properly this will be the first night that I've slept in it so really looking forward to it we're going to have a fire and cook some nice food and just enjoy the enjoy the evening we paddled out here in my canoe to a little secret island that I know you know I made the tent with canoeing in mind it's quite a quite a bulky heavy tent it's not something you could put in a backpack and carry any distance but for canoe camping it's ideal you know you're not really limited by weight so much in a canoe I've still got a few jobs to do around camp I need to collect and process some firewood for this evening to cook on but before I do that I thought I'd show you around our camp and you can see a bit more of a baker tent as I said in the videos on making this Baker tent it's it's based on an old canvas design from the 1850s used by fur traders and it's a it's a simple design you have a sleeping compartment in the back here sleeping area I chose to make a canvas door which rolls up which zips closed it has a removable groundsheet floor which is held in place with Velcro so I have the option of using it or not using it depending on what I'm doing and a large covered porch area the idea being that you can have a campfire under the cover of that porch so in bad weather the rain isn't going to put your campfire out and you can just drop one of the corners here to allow rain to run off and that also then heats your tent your sleeping area both of the side panels can be rolled back so depending on wind direction you can you can open up the sides or close off and then there's a back wall which gives a little bit more space inside the sleeping area so that is as it should be a nice comfortable home from home for the Knights [Music] [Applause] hello and they will tee it up lucky likes well I thought I brought tea bags with me why I'm drinking nettle tea I'm gonna get on and do some dinner Maggie and I are going to share a steak it's quite a big steak that is probably an inch and a half thick I would say at least on the bone big old lump of meat so there'll be plenty for Maggie and I I've also bought a couple of potatoes because I'm going to make some chips well sort of chips actually there's going to be fried potatoes but in a chip shape piece it I mean and I've got a large mushroom to have with it as well so that's dinner I'm gonna get on with that shortly because this piece of meat is so big and anybody who's watched my previous videos knows that I like my steak barely cooked at all but what I don't like is cold steak in the middle so I'm going to get this warming up by the fire not cooking just warming through so that it's it's good and warm in the in the middle and then I'll just flash cook it basically probably just straight on that griddle I think on that straight on that new grill of mine I think that will cook quite nicely on there I've got another new item here this was very kindly sent to me by a subscriber it's a Swedish punters frying pan and the handle folds up like this wooden handle as well so you haven't got to worry about burning your hands and it's got a quite a long handle yeah really nice design so I've seasoned it at home but I haven't really used it in anger as such just all the pan up chips are done mushroom is done so I'm going to take these off and get the steak on but I want a bit more heat for the steak I'm going to lower this grill down the bonus about it having folding legs is that you can lower it by folding the bottom section down flat if you see what I mean so there it is it's not cooked it's literally just warmed through I'm gonna season it but I'm not going to go too crazy on the seasoning cuz I'm sharing this with Maggie and you know too much salt especially is not good for her so just a little smidge and a bit of pepper is all straight on the grill with it I have a hot sauce to drive Michael from PCF hot sauces in Texas sent me another batch another little packet of new sources and this one here is he's called ruse and he said it was inspired by me I have no idea what's in it but he says that I'll know as soon as I take the lid off and smell it ah I'm getting horseradish fantastic that will go perfectly with my steak hmm try that mushroom oh that's good YUM right I'm gonna sit down and tuck into this and I'll get back to you after dinner [Applause] they go Maggie you can do the dishes well that was really good I was really pleased with how well the chips came out have not really done chips that way before but I guess they're not that different little cube potatoes are they they were good very nice and that steak was amazing I'm absolutely stuffed with such a lot of meat even with the bit I gave to Maggie yeah good so I gotta sleep there I'm really happy to to be out here tonight I love this place this I'll enough I've been coming to this island for years used to bring the kids here when they were younger camping and um yeah got got lots of nice memories of this place it's tucked away it's not near any buildings or anything like that so well you know it's just yeah it's off remote feel to it although the field opposite our cows in that field I've never seen a farmer the cows just you know they seem to know what time they need to go to be milked or whatever I've never seen anybody come and sort of round them up they just trough a couple of times a day and trot back again but yeah they're quite nice they're quite inquisitive they'll often come up to the bank on the opposite side and just stand there in a line looking looking at us wondering what we're doing yeah it's a nice spot time for our chocolate wha while we're on the subject of hot chocolates I just like to say a big thank you to Eric from Sweden eric is a subscriber and had I had a package through this week I had no idea what it was he said he was going to send something and when I opened it it was full of a hot chocolate the hoos sachets of oh boy hot chocolate that I like so much two kilograms of it so I'm not going to run out for a long time thank you Eric this that's awesome it's just gone 10 o'clock I'm gonna turn in shortly but before I do I'm gonna have another hot chocolate because that first one was so good I may regret it at 2 o'clock in the morning when I wake up needing a pee but yeah I'm gonna have one more hot chocolate and then turn in had a nice evening it's been relaxing good food nice to spend a bit of time out in the woods with Maggie always good yeah and I haven't been on a camp for ages since Sweden I've been on one other camp and that was I didn't film it that was another paddle I did with ginge who I did the paddle with last weekend on the wisi he and I you know I went and paddled the little news about three or four weeks ago and we had an overnight camp on that trip but I didn't film it's nice to not film now again although I loved I loved filming and I love editing and I loved putting the videos out there sometimes it's nice just not have to worry about it and not take all the gear along you know and just enjoy it for what it is so that's why I didn't film that one but yeah so it's nice to get out today and and have an overnight camp weather-wise it's been it's been pretty good it was quite windy earlier on but that's calmed down now tomorrow's forecast is good as well you know it's not remotely cold this evening you know I'm sitting out here in a t-shirt admittedly I've got a fire and actually sitting in this porch area of the Baker tent it does it does that great big reflector so it is cozy and warm in here but yeah it's not particularly cold anyway I would I would really like to try this Baker turnout in the wet because I think that's where it's really gonna come into its own you know I could have had a I could have had a campfire on the open tonight and it wouldn't have been a problem in wet conditions it's a different story and that's really where this comes into its own you know it's under the shelter of the porch you can have your fire it doesn't get put out by the rain so I would like to try it out on a rainy weekend and I shall do that but for now hot chocolate and bed good night [Applause] morning folks I slept really well Maggie - I think woke up this morning to a a beautiful morning not a cloud in the sky a bit chilly but that's you know that's the time of year we're just in - we're just into water now and the temperatures do tend to drop a bit overnight but yeah absolutely lovely [Applause] I'm gonna give Maggie one of these eggs and I'll have the other one I'm not gonna give ready of the bacon cuz it's really salty and she's already had some of her normal dog food anyway so I'll have that I love the mangled one she can have the good one there we are all tidy if I cleared away that there patch there is is always here this place is used by other people as well as myself so well you know it's just the camping area really leftover logs I've just snapped up here for future use either by myself or whoever's next here and we're all packed away I'm ready to go in the canoe well we're gonna get going Maggie's waiting patiently over there by the canoe for me eager to get in I hope you've enjoyed the video thanks for watching and I'll see you soon [Music]
