You could almost argue that this is a "artisan" video for the Interviewer too. You just don't see that sort of devotion to asking really good quality questions that the interviewee can give a solid informative answers to these days.

Wow, he really is a master. I really enjoyed the interview as well, this kind of intelligent conversation isn't valued by the main stream media enough these days. Thanks

Make sure you watch his show with Andre Previn too, which is more in depth and technical, with Peterson pulling off some truly sublime performances as casually as anything.

Eternally grateful that I got to see him play in London shortly before he passed away, as it was the trio sessions with Brown and Thigpen that got me into jazz 15 years ago.

Describes music and techniques with the same ease and eloquence that he plays. 7 Minutes? I could listen to 100s of hours of this. Many thanks, OP. Though surely this is more mastery than artisan.

Well, I just gave up my dreams of ever learning piano.

Can someone tell me who he sounded like when he sang? I'm not well versed enough in jazz to recognize it...

Are there any definitive Oscar Peterson records to listen to? I'm on Spotify, don't know where to begin.

I remember watching Quincy Jones being interviewed in a documentary on Peterson. I remember him saying something like "If Ocsar's in the building, you have no business being on the piano."

ratch the bosom do I figure well I thank you and His grace the Duke things here and there that's good let's hurry things I've got some notes here from my scrap but I'm gonna be possible to pick up pick a tune have your show it's just superficially perhaps gonna pick a tune that I know I'll let you pick the game no good because I might pick buttons and bows or who knows and any if you get to show us some of this what I think are called stylistic trademarks of other other pianists now what do we mean by the phrase the stride piano of Arc Tatum for the stride piano of Tatum or people of that area is the ability to play the background for yourself and make it work like a rhythm section as opposed to when you play with the rhythm section where you would just hold a chord usually or punctuated with a court and play because the drummer is playing the bass player is clean so this we go yeah so the right hand is really the instrument in the left hand is putting the rhythm section out of work that's right yes yeah I did okay what else did I put down here oh yeah here's something I wrote they know too that talking about influences on you and they quote the two fingered percussiveness of natkho and you show the two finger let's again let's do this sort of TPC which each note has its own articulation rather than being an insipid phrase like yeah it's and he used mostly the front end of his hand and in fact accomplished this variant that it was articulated like you do in speech then on then the music running over uh that's part of the sentence the other part we they could hear in your early influence was the lyric octave work of Earl Garner all they talked about the full chords like this we rarely used handful of chords to play melody if he was gonna play a getting sentimental he might play like this and delay it like that uh uh and as I said on another show you have to know how to be able to do the proper delay so it doesn't sound false since you didn't name the airline you better name the other show I won't what was it run by a middle-aged man with white hair no oh okay uh but what about the relaxed block chords or would that be a typo for black cords no I guess not enjoy hearings yes I'm George George Shearing used this kind of thing melodies left roses of picketing we use the fullness of a sax section almost instead of playing its full chord I played again with partial gourd partial chord would be two notes fizzes it's much sparse Macau sparse this is full you know it just occurred to me that I read so that you had given up singing because you sounded a little too much like a well-known singer don't say who it is good to see ya let's see could you do a little bit of a blossom fail and see if anybody you can tell who you sound like I would say good or was nothing give me a kiss to build a dream on do you really sound like him well it's debatable you won't do it at me I don't want to embarrass him you don't fancy guy I see occasionally minute you know when I feel he did feel up to it could you did sing just a bit and see if you sound like anybody I'll be the what a day this is beautiful what a rear you Lambie well it's almost my beloved and if you say Donna summers you're in deep trouble yeah and so are you no I think everyone I think everyone recognized the voice of the immortal George Burns let's not explain it what our double-handed or is it double octave bass lines I think there was actually what you mean double acted octave melody lines well I'm in bass lines in here because if you play a linear invention if you play as a game on Sweet Georgia if you invent something there's an alternative line yeah then you play the same thing with two hands how's he doing the identical thing let's do hands get into two different places in the piano gets a little different substance this is a little difficult to do if you haven't been doing it was that ever hard for you or when you were the first time you tried that could you do it no I couldn't do the first time I tried okay what would I be hearing if the if the pianist was tonality based I've seen that term through are you hearing alright if you take the same tuned roses okay I pretty right you'd hear this sort of thing you might hear more involved harming like whatever they chose to do you're just moving the harmonies around and changing them to give it you know to a different shape to the tune thank you for this master lesson quick to ten-second questions how good a trumpet player was Louis Armstrong International Terrace fantastic yeah and the other one is how long his wigs been a verb transitive as in cigarette holder that wigs me and lyrics to set go but you don't need and it will prosper Peterson it's just genuine thrill to have you here and if you would play us off that would be wonderful just a little cocktail piano yes thank you you
