Old Computers Won't Work on Windows 11 24H2

what you guys got another video here for your old computers won't work on Windows 11 24 H2 when it's released to the general public in the fall if you look here uh Bob Pony uh actually found an interesting bit of information here about uh the windows 1124 H2 it seems that Microsoft are now enforcing some more stricter rules for some of the older CPUs out there so it will require a CPU with ss4a which is amd's Barcelona or new or sse4.2 Intel Nim or newer so even the later Core 2 CPUs like penin uh won't work because they max out the SSE 4.1 so they are enforcing this new pop count which is po CNT for short they are going to start enforcing this on the windows 1124 H2 which means if you do have any of these CPUs in your system and you are running Windows 11 on that system then it will fail to boot and it will not boot up anymore now this is what Microsoft seemed to be doing maybe this is a test that they are doing where they might enforce this right away through the unsupported Hardware CPU list who knows we'll have to wait and see but once they do release Windows 11 24 H2 if you are on one of those super older CPUs which were made basically before 2010 and surprisingly there is still people that are using Windows 11 on these older CPUs on maybe computers that were made in 2007 if you are one of those people then it will fail to boot once you update to Windows 1124 H2 just so you know you might want to back up your data now and just uh revert back to Windows 10 because what's going to happen is it just won't boot now if you can remember way back when Windows 11 was released Microsoft did actually say that there is a a workaround to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware and they also said it's not recommended because they could make changes in the future that will stop Windows 11 working on unsupported hardware and this is just the beginning so maybe they are now starting to make it harder for you to use Windows 11 with older processors or older hardware and again they're still making it difficult for you to install Windows 11 on it there is workarounds for it as we well know and again they may well stop Windows updates there is ways of doing things it's is Microsoft's operating system and there's plenty of things they could do to make it impossible to use that operating system in 2024 whether they implement this and and go ahead with it I really don't know whether they'll go that far we'll just have have to wait and see but one thing is for sure that Windows 11 is not as popular as Windows 10 a lot more people are still using Windows 10 and windows 11 has been a bit of a flop compared to Windows 10 now that's not to say that eventually people will jump ship to Windows 11 and it will become popular because what I remember when Windows 10 first come out no one liked it everyone hated Windows 10 but now it seems that they're forced to use Windows 10 and now they're using it and now people want to hang on to Windows 10 so it's an Ever evolving uh problem for Windows and Microsoft I understand a lot of people like uh older Hardware they have a Nostalgia for it and uh you know Windows operating systems Windows XP people have their favorites but there comes a point where Hardware just becomes too old in 2024 if you're using a PC say built in 2007 in my personal opinion it's just not powerful F enough for what most people want to do so we're talking about PCS that were built 2010 that's 14 years old and if it's 2007 it's 17 years old that is a long time there's a big massive change in Hardware performance from that era to today's era now I had a discussion with someone on Discord about old hardware and he says he has this old 17-year-old laptop to do a bit of coding and he has another laptop to do something else and he has another PC that he does this on and I said but why don't you just get rid of all those PCS and just have one that does it all anyway let's talk about some of the options that you might have available to you if you want to continue to use that old computer without having uh Windows on it at all because obviously Windows 10 is coming to an end in 2025 and we'll need to uh talk about some other options so maybe you're looking for a secondhand PC and you're looking at old office Surplus PCS like these then make sure that it does support Windows 11 just in case you want to use Windows 11 in the future so if that is the case you need to make sure it's eighth generation Intel CPU or newer and if it's an AMD system it has to be a second gen uh ryzen CPU or newer otherwise it won't support uh Windows 11 officially and if you're buying some other older stuff maybe you want to put Linux on there then by all means do so but you may also be able to use uh Linux on your older system so there's plenty of good options available out there for Linux some of the ones that I would choose are say Linux Mint for uh Windows users they could jump ship to say Linux Mint or even pop OS which is another good popular uh Linux uh distribution that you can use and again these are completely different operating systems to Windows but again it's an alternative Elementary OS is another nice uh operating system that you can use and it is quite usable for people to get understand how Linux Works Zoran OS is another good uh favorite for people to jump to if they've been on Windows they would obviously need to learn a new operating system and of course aunu there's plenty of other ones available out there maybe some Linux users will be able to give people some recommendations in the comment section below to help people out in that department other than that if you are looking to buy a new computer by all means build yourself a brand new PC or buy a pre-built system which is brand new and if you're look buying old secondhand stuff then make sure it's eighth generation or newer or second generation ryzen or newer my name has been Brian from brch computers. co.uk quick shout out
