hey guys and welcome to another episode of UAE eats I'm UA and today we're going to the most famous New York restaurant a true New York institution today we're going to check out a place called cat's Deli which you may have heard of now it's no exaggeration to call katstelli a New York institution because there is no more famous restaurant than cats Deli in New York cat's Deli has been around since the 1800s it's been around for more than 100 years and it makes hands down the best pastrami on rye in the whole city and that's saying a lot in New York however when it comes to New York when word gets around that it's good the price tends to go up and as good as cat's Deli may be it's now a 26 sandwich 26 bucks for a sandwich now I've been to the cactus before and it's absolutely great but is it worth 26 dollars we're gonna find out today let's check it out [Music] all right guys we're here at Katz's and even on a rainy gloomy day like today the line is just insane I feel like it's going to be at least a 40 minute wait until I get inside it just shows you the crazy demand and popularity of this place from tourists and locals alike but mostly tourists but just because it's a tourist spot doesn't mean it can't be good so let's check it out and see if it's worth that 26 bucks [Music] thank you um [Music] thank you thank you all right guys we just got our cat's Deli pastrami on rye with the complimentary pickles and let's eat this while it's hot we also decided to get a egg cream now this is a very New York drink and it's a bit of a misnomer it has neither egg nor cream in it it's mostly vanilla syrup and seltzer water it may not sound like much but it's pretty refreshing all right my mask is off let's dig in you know it may not sound like much a lot of the ingredients are very artificial but it's actually really refreshing if you're ever in New York a lot of dessert places will sell this as well as delis there actually have been a lot of attempts to bottle the egg cream but it hasn't really worked out because it kind of needs to be made fresh it kind of needs to have that fresh carbonation and it needs to be at the right temperature which is why I got it here and not to go oh we'll finish this later let's dig into the sandwich since that's what we're here for oh that's really good let's take another bite foreign honestly the line outside is for a pretty good reason because this is definitely the best pastrami sandwich in New York now it definitely kind of has like tourist status at this point but just because it's a tourist spot doesn't mean it can't also be good I mean sometimes places become tourist spots for a good reason like they're not necessarily tourist traps so while it is really expensive the quality definitely is good what I like about cats is that the pastrami is thick cut I don't know if you can see in the camera but there's some fatty bits as well as you saw in my footage earlier there were people freshly hand carving it for every single sandwich and not every pastrami Place does that so that's why cats has kind of made a name for itself and honestly it shows them the taste of the sandwich foreign places in the city there's pastrami Queen their Second Avenue Deli and those places might be slightly cheaper than cats's but I feel like the pastrami is either not cut thick enough it's either not Smoky enough in flavor it doesn't quite have those charred bits on the edges giving you that like barbecue and Smoky flavor I want to show you something else about the meat the meat is just so tender just look it just kind of like comes apart in my fingers with almost like no force and just think about that meat coming apart in your mouth like that um wash it down with a refreshing vanilla egg cream there's a reason they sell these at the same place the egg cream and the pastrami sandwich made for each other now honestly when I go to places I really like you can tell because even though it was expensive like a 26 sandwich just look at how thick this sandwich is so half of it really is like a normal portion but I kind of downed like half of it which is like you know a normal caloric allocation for lunch and I just down that in like two minutes so the sandwich is great let's try these pickles that they gave us these complimentary pickles foreign let's try another one okay so the pickles are kind of Hit or Miss I mean I kind of see why they're complimentary I kind of like my pickles to be a little bit more sour these thicker ones are a little more sour and kind of have more of that pickled brine flavor while these more pale ones are kind of a little bit less pickly in flavor to be honest they don't really taste like pickles they kind of just taste like wet cucumbers but it's good I mean they're complementary so you can't expect too much so anyways we touched upon the flavor we touched upon the quality when it comes to Quality there's there's really no debate I mean it's a great sandwich it's definitely the best pastrami and Rye in New York probably the world but definitely in New York I would actually say that this is probably one of the top 10 sandwiches I've had but now we're coming to the main question of whether it's worth 26 bucks and uh I don't know it's kind of a hard question to answer I guess I'll answer it like this The Taste was definitely good would I pay 26 bucks to have this flavor to eat this sandwich once absolutely but I guess the way I would answer this question is this worth 26 bucks I would say no just because for me 26 bucks no matter how good the sandwich is that's just so expensive just like how movies and video games have re-watch value or replay value I mean no matter how good a sandwich is for 26 bucks I'm not gonna eat this more than like a few times a year at most I mean this might be the only time I eat at this place all year to be honest just because it's so expensive especially when you factor in the long line the long waiting time so then you have the time cost as well so I guess for me at the end of the day it's a sandwich it's not steak it's not Omakase Sushi or or anything fancy like that where you eat it on like a special occasion to me a sandwich is something that you grab for the road a good sandwich place is a place that you kind of go back to whenever you're craving it like you become like a regular at this place so for me is it a good sandwich yes it's the best pastrami sandwich I've had probably one of the top 10 sandwiches I've had but for me like just the fact that it's 26 bucks I would say no it's not worth it for 26 now if it were 15 16 bucks that's a little bit more within reason but 26 bucks I'll say this it's good not overrated but definitely overpriced so for me it's not worth it but let me know what you guys think obviously this is just my opinion so I don't want to push on you guys have you guys been to Katz Deli do you think it's worth 26 bucks if it's not worth 26 bucks how much would you pay for this let me know in the meanwhile I'm gonna finish this and savor every dollar that I spend on it anyways thanks for watching my video and going on this journey with me if you like
