what is up y'all welcome back to the channel man if you guys are new my name is tim i go by hot shot mac i am a hot shot driver recently became a hot shot driver back on february 15th to be exact i'm actually continuing this video uh from the previous video that i just released talking about how does it work being leased on with a company but in this video i'm gonna talk about money i'm gonna break down what it's like being leased on being a non-cdl uh hotshot driver what kind of money am i taking home [Music] i want to show you guys my gross i'm going to show you guys what it looks like after they take out their percentage what i'm taking home after all of my expenses now i'm again i'm trying to be open as much open wide open with you guys as possible i don't want to sugarcoat anything this is just the real world numbers of what it looks like for me not saying this is how it's going to look like for you or how it will work we all got different things going on we all got different expenses we all have a different business model so i'm just letting you guys know what's working for me and um so forth so without further ado man we're gonna jump right into it i'm gonna share my screen with you guys and go over my spreadsheet go over my loads my rate per mile and things like that you know the mileage and so forth now keep in mind guys this was my first run as a hotshot driver and i still think i did great man but being that it was my first run you know it was my first time kind of like getting into things i i've got experience with hauling in the past but doing a few things but this is on a different level the securing of items is different for me so i did you know it was a kind of a learning curve for me but i had some help from a good friend john that you know he he's helped me out a ton with getting my trailer with security items you guys seen it in some of the videos i wasn't sure what i was doing with the straps so keep in mind that as it being my first run things were probably a little bit slower as far as how i was moving it may have taken me a couple hours to secure a load and get out of there when it should have taken me maybe an hour you know what i'm saying so keep that in mind when we're starting to look at these numbers again i still think i did great for it being my first run i already know that my second run was you know better i'll say that but like i said in my last video i think i'm gonna maybe start creating like a series or a section where i talk about money as you know what it is for me being non-cdl at least on i'm gonna do like a weekly you know some weekly videos of what you know the money is looking like and then i'll do maybe a month breakdown or you know different things i'll i'll figure it out as i'm going but without further ado like i said let's jump into it i'm gonna share my screen and you guys i may be looking up maybe looking down but the main focus will be on the uh the screen guys so let us jump into it all right screen is up y'all we're gonna first talk about february and then i went into march let's start with february february 2021 breakdown i did two weeks in february which was the last two weeks since i started on the 15th so let's get into it man um my first load was going from knoxville tennessee to ghent kentucky 249 miles freight amount was 750 bucks my 70 out of that was 525 you take that divide into my mileage we get my rate per mile at two dollars and 10 cents now keep in mind the overall rate per mile is more than dollars and ten cents because like i said i'm only showing you guys my part of things so there's times where you guys may think man that rate promoter looks really low but you gotta remember that's the bottom end that's my that's just 70 of that rate per mile okay and i did my best with kind of calculating my mileage because there was some deadhead but i did my best with trying to retract and kind of calculate my miles so some of it may have deadhead somewhat i'm just being blatant honest with you guys so if you guys want to see what it took to get from kentucky to livermore kentucky that's perfectly fine but i didn't go through every load and kind of see what my my deadhead was because there were some times where my deadhead was 20 miles 15 miles you know but in my future videos i plan to do a better at you know keeping track of all miles that the trunk is on the road but for right now most part is i got some loaded miles and then some includes the uh the dead head all right livermore to batavia ohio this was an oversized load uh it was 245 miles it was paying 2 800 and my cut was 1960 and that's about eight dollars a mile so this was really good man this load i think i did a video on this load i'm not sure i know i did a video on one of my oversized loads i've never done an oversight load an oversized load my dispatcher called me say hey are you comfortable doing an oversized load and i like the challenge man i like to challenge myself from time to time and i took it man and it worked out great didn't have any issues and it was good it was a good rate good paying rate next load was lancaster ohio to claquette minnesota was about 888 miles paying 17.50 cut was 12.25 dollar 37 uh per mile so all in all for that first week i did about 3 13 82 miles uh the entire gross for that month was 5300 my take home before anything before fuel was 37.10 and average rate per mile was 11.40 not average but the total altogether was 1147. this is the flow i'm going to be going in for the next couple weeks since we're doing about three and a half weeks and i'll try to make it as quickly as possible and i know some of you guys will just want to get to the end to say all right dude what did you make i'ma get there if you want you can go ahead and fast forward the video whatever you like so i got my fixed deductions on every um every week and what i did was i broke all of my monthly payments down into four just broke it down weekly the first thing i have here i don't own a pro i don't own a house we don't have a home yet we're in the process of looking and things like that but my trailer i got to put it in storage so that's about a hundred and something dollars a month weekly my storage fee is 32 and 33 cents uh geico insurance is which is what i pay for the truck and the trailer break that down into a week is and 10 cents my truck payment is 269.75 a week i paid roughly over just over a thousand bucks a month for my truck payment which is not the best you know my credit is good but it's not the best so um i plan to maybe refinance or you know something down the line to get that better on but for right now that's what it is my cell phone uh which i do use constantly while i'm on the road is 32 so i included that at 32 a week my truck and trailer maintenance i put it at 200 bucks that's just starting out man i'm getting the feel of things i might need to set aside a little bit more but for my first run i think 200 bucks is okay you guys let me know what you guys do as far as a reserve for maintenance because like i said i've never owned a truck like this so i'm not sure what is a safe safety net to have set aside but like i said right now 200 it's a brand new truck and um you know it's under warranty but you know the warranty is gonna end at some point so you guys just let me know what you guys think about that man that's that's my safety on that right now 200 bucks all right so my eld is nine dollars a week my escrow which is kind of like a savings account but it's it's set aside in case i leave you know the company that i'm with they keep a hundred bucks and it goes into that account so the total for my fixed deductions are 678 dollars and 18 cents all right so now i'm going to go into my variables what are the different things that i'm spending weekly while i'm on the road and a lot of uh for me i wanted to include this i don't really have to but i kind of want to like i said just be open and show you guys what it really looks like when you're you know spending things on a road food showers permits other other variable expenses that change by the week so my first week out i paid uh 24. whether that was for laundry or for showers and at this point i didn't know i was just getting into the truck stops you know eventually down the line i got my uh my loyalty card so now i don't i don't pay for showers and things like that maybe just laundry but it's there food for this week was 144 144.55 did the truck wash which was 43.97 tolls 15 bucks permits you know you're gonna need permits for your oversized loads i pay for that as well fuel card this was the fuel for the first week 428 bucks i got my personal fuel card in case i can't get into a truck stop where my comdata car doesn't work i may have to use my uh my account hotels i stay in hotels on the weekends that's a choice by myself i can't do all my work my editing my paperwork it's just not going to be a good setting for me so i need to get somewhere that has good connection and that i'm comfortable that's just that's just my choice during the week i stay in the truck on the weekends i do my reset in the hotel supplies i needed banners and and flags for my oversized loads whatever supplies i need i i kind of keep track of that as well so for this week i did 100.99 and i'm taking out 30 taxes just for to be a safety net i take that out of my uh pay every week this week it was 297 dollars and 49 cents so first week guys you can see it right here man 1727.82 is what i took home after everything let's jump into the next week all right so my first load was from brooklyn center minnesota to chicago illinois about 403 miles freight was 800 bucks uh my take home was 560 rate per mile one dollar and 38 cents next trip was from streeter illinois to 84 pa that trip was 539 miles paid 1100 bucks uh 770 was my take home at dollar 42 was the rate per mile pittsburgh pied in red hook new york was an oversized load about 499 miles and uh that was paying 1700. my pay was 1190 and 2.38 so that's what i like about these oversized loads the rates are usually from what i've seen they've they've been pretty good a lot better actually than just like regular freight uh the last trip of this week was danielsville pa to ball louisiana 13 11 miles 2600 is what it was paying my pay was 1820 and uh rate per mile was a dollar and 38 cents total miles i did for this week was 2752 roughly gross was 6200 my take home before everything was 4 340 down to the fixed deductions i don't think i need to go over this every week guys it's going to be the same every week so we've already went over that so to save time i'm not going to go through that again my weekly variables however will always change every week i did 12 for showers or laundry that more than likely was laundry uh photo is 194.48 i didn't pay any tolls or parking fees all right guys i didn't pay any permits on this uh pay period it might have been coming out of my next because i know i did have oversized loads that i did anyhow fuel card was 773 dollars and two cents personal fuel i paid 154 so that means i must have been in a town where there were no truck stops i run into that sometimes taking back roads and i just got to pull off you know mom and pops or something hotels for that weekend was 145 and 16 cents didn't spend anything on supplies took out my taxes which was 436 bucks my annual inspection that i did with the company when i first started fell on this pay period so i included it this run i took home 1979 and one cent okay a little bit better than last week still learning things and still kind of figuring out what works best for me while being on the road so it doesn't it looked a little bit better here all right guys so let's let's get into march uh this is my third week i know it says week one right here but this is my third week uh being on the road um started on march 1st so did a trip from sulphur louisiana to cottage grove minnesota 1154 miles paying 2400 uh my cut was 1680 a dollar 45 was the rate per mile okay so i remember this run i went from louisiana up to minnesota dropped off in cottage grove this was about maybe 15 minutes away from this drop so i picked up a load going from mendota heights minnesota the balloons creek north carolina 1120 miles paying 2 000 bucks uh 1400 is my cut 1.99 is my rate per mile um now i picked up a partial now this was the first time i did a partial now keep in mind also guys that none of my loads none of this this whole run i didn't do any partials besides right here okay so keep that in mind as well these two loads are pretty much picking up in the same area and going to the same area so you're gonna notice here on this trip going from mccook illinois to winston-salem north carolina says 50 miles 50 miles is roughly what i had to do to go off route and come back to get back on the route for that's going to blues creek north carolina so that's the total of miles i had to go off route if that makes sense this partial was paying 1200 bucks my cut was 840 dollars the rate per mile i have it there at sixteen dollars and eighty cents because i've only went off 50 miles so if you total you know both with the entire trip the rate per mile looked pretty good okay and i don't know maybe i need to go back and look at that but i think that's accurate but yeah that was a good run man getting those partials and i hope to get you know more and more partials you know i had some in my second time out and it was also great but i like them i like doing them all right so total miles 2 324 grossed 5600 uh this week my take home was 3920 rate per mile total was 20 and 24 cents everything here my fixed deductions guys they are the still still the same 6 78 18 showers and laundry i wasn't paying for showers at this point because i was getting my points with my loyalty card so laundry was 10 bucks food was 136.43 i got a truck watch for 48. um and i need a lot of truck wash because when i when i was up north and the salt and the snow i had to get it off of the truck parking fees and tolls was 15 bucks now i know i paid this is considered parking here my storage because that's where i park my uh our my trailer when it's when i'm not on the road but sometimes if i can't park at a rest stop like a truck stop where it's free and i have to you know go somewhere else sometimes you have to pay in this case the 15 bucks was for tolls uh my fuel card was 575.19 and my personal card was 133 hotels 181.47 i have maintenance here because i did have to pay i got an alignment on the truck with firestone they had a lifetime thing so i paid 214.83 supplies were 40 bucks and my taxes on this run was 281 bucks now keep in mind my taxes i i base my taxes off of an app that i use which is stride and it it calculates my taxes based on my deductions when i when i key everything in so that's how it may seem like it fluctuates or like oh 30 of you know 62 or 53 that doesn't sound right but it just bases that off of it recommends an amount for me to put aside based on uh the deductions i had or the miles that i drove for that week all right let's move on man so total for this week was 1674 in my variable expenses my total net was 1567.82 take home for that week let's jump into the last week this was a short week because it was the week i decided to go home i was on the road for three and a half weeks in total and this is the last half so i went from spartanburg south carolina to aberdeen mississippi 606 miles i know that included my deadhead from north carolina this freight was paying 2 000 bucks my amount was 1400 rate per mile on that was 2.31 cents i went from birmingham i went from aberdeen mississippi to birmingham this includes my uh load my deadhead 486 miles from birmingham alabama to bastrop uh louisiana lola's paying 750 525 was my cut a dollar and eight cents so not so great i was really picky on getting home by a certain time so i didn't really weigh out my options with getting loads i was like yep i'll take it let's go i'm ready to go home and i was fine with that my last trip for this run was from monroe louisiana to freeport texas 525 miles paying 400 bucks not not not so great man but like i said i was just looking to get home and i wasn't really being picky with my loads it was in route i said if it paid me for fuel and that's fine yeah that was paying me 280 and rate per mile lousy 53 cents i mean may have even been less because i spent the whole day at the port man totally not worth it but anyhow total was 1 617 i grossed three thousand one hundred and fifty dollars that week my seventy percent was two thousand two hundred and five dollars rate per mile total was three dollars and ninety two cents that week so we already know my expenses here are six hundred and seventeen eighteen this is what it looks like for me with my weekly variables didn't do any laundry didn't take any showers food was 60 bucks keep in mind this was a shorter week so that's why it looks like this they didn't spend on a truck wash they didn't pay any tolls or any uh fees or permits fuel card was 349 dollars and 68 cents this week didn't use my personal fuel didn't spend any any any hotels because obviously i came home that week and 191 dollars in supplies i can't say what i bought i must have ordered some supplies on amazon to be here by the time i get home whatever the case is taxes they told me on my app that i didn't need to reserve any taxes for this week based on my mileage that i drove and just my deductions total for that was six hundred and one dollars my total take-home was 925 and 82 cents that week so that's what it looks like so far man for the first three and a half weeks let us look at what it really is at the end of the day three and a half week breakdown guys my overall gross was twenty thousand two hundred and fifty bucks that's what uh i brought in total before anything taken out after the 30 that the company that i'm least on with takes my gross after that was 14 175 bucks and my net after all of my expenses after everything was 6247 cents those are my numbers for me y'all and um i'm happy with it just for it being my first month on the road being leased on being a non-cdl driver i'm pretty satisfied with that because um i even know right now like my next run when i was out again for three and a half weeks i know i'm gonna probably surpass that once i do that breakdown i will actually see things like my escrow that i included in here i may may have not had it to take it out the taxes you know things like that because i'm sure i'll have write-offs and and blah blah blah but i feel safe doing it this way and i feel safe knowing what i can take home i'm sure like this is not to the t and i'm aware of that but it's uh a good ballpark for me to sit out and kind of know what i'm bringing home if this is even worth it and so forth with that being said man that that really shows you guys what i've done in the first time my first time out being a i consider myself a hot shot
