hey guys holland cash here with another video today we're going to go into just exactly how i lay out my bed system inside the truck what we're going to have to do to get the bed system correct what seats we got to remove the whole nine and then exactly what goes through my mind when i'm building my bed out y'all stay [Music] all right so tuned the mist the first thing i'm going to do is go ahead and take out this seat here as well as my passenger seat and get a good overall measurement of my length going this way and my length going vertically and find out which one provides me the most length as i'm a tall guy so i need to make sure that happens all right okay so everything's out as you can tell we got a whole bunch of trash in here uh just from junk i haven't organized and just mess everything needs to be vacuumed and armored and all that now here's the problem here's what wonderful ram you got to use 19 well it'll focus that's a 19. you got to use a 10. need to use a 15 i don't know if it's not focusing i don't know if it's got that auto focus whatever that's 15 and then you got to use the 13. so now here's the deal you've got to take out this bolt that bolt two over there you need to take out this bolt right here for the seat belt because this will be up in front of the seat and you need to take it off so you can push it up behind the seat and get the back seat out so that only takes that bolt and four others okay so five for the rear here's where the front end's gonna be a pain and this is what you'll deal with when you're doing it so to get the front seat out of here you have two up here one and two right there got two more back in here okay now you need to put your want to put your screws back in because you got daylight down here all right so those uh four need to come out then you have these here and you see that yeah i don't know if you can tell the angle but there's an angle here it's so steep when you're trying to get a a ratchet in there it's it's a mess also notice this size is different than this size back here i don't know what ram's deal is anyway so i put all the nuts back in all the bolts back in but you got to take these off to get your seat out so this one has six these two in the front will be the hardest this one will be your very hardest the way to get this out loosen up the front two take them out pull up on the seat a little bit get yourself just enough room get you a good ratchet in there that's it let's uh measure it up for the bed okay so now that i've got the back out and i've got the front seat out now what i've got to do is i've got to go in and measure front to rear to see where my length is and then i've got to measure side to side back here and see where my length is whatever gives me the most length the most stretch out capability that's what i'm gonna go with now i went and you guys seen my channel before i went with this backside here going long ways this way and we're just gonna see if going straight ahead gives us more space hopefully that's the case so y'all hang out for the result so here's the diagnosis i've got vertically from front to back from the passenger side i've got 75 inches of overall room going width-wise i've got only about 63. now that's that's pretty substantial difference okay um and as far as the overall measurement is concerned how much length i get here's where it gets a little crazy if i were to just take up my seat here and fold it straight forward but it's all the way to the back all the way pushed back from there on the wall to here i've got like 41 40 and a quarter inches and then just in between here from this a-pillar to here only about 24. so we got to see what we're gonna do i think i'm still gonna go a long ways here um you know and then um you know i'm gonna lay in there first and see if it's wide enough for me um if i like it and if i don't then i won't but we'll look at it real quick all right so now that i've gotten the measurements um i decided obviously i'm gonna go front to back um now it's time to build a table out and i say a table because essentially your mattress is going to sit up on a table um you're going to use plywood of some sort right uh some kind of a brace at the bottom and then uh you know cut it out to width and to length and then screw it down into your brace points and then um from there you'll trim your mattress up and we'll be good to go so i'll show you what mine looks like here okay so this is what mine looks like now i've taken out the back seat i went ahead and braced with two back here these are four by fours that's all they had i wanted to use untreated but they had treated all right then it runs all the way up to the front i gave myself plenty of room here so i can access the glove box now went ahead and braced in three spots because ram is very ridiculous with the way they do the flooring they recessed it for this point raised it over there it's raised over here but then it's it's not over there it's raised here and so anyway i've got three brace points it's it's not gonna go anywhere the only only thing i wished i could have fixed was this little gap right there where it recesses um obviously you're gonna have your seat disconnected so be wary that your airbag light for your seat is going to be on all the time just because of that but now i'm going to show you what i'm going to do with the the mattress here all right so we got the mattress now it's just a 10 inch it's made by lucid lucid it's a 10 inch memory foam firm mattress lengthwise at 74 inches it's exactly what i want width-wise it's 38 now mind you if you're using the back of your truck okay you would only need to come down here and cut you off about 10 inches all right but now i'm going vertical front to back here so now i've got to go in and cut long ways down damn near half the mattress just to make it work but it is what you got to do so i took off my cover which is down here below it and i'll cut this cover here and i'll slide the mattress out um and then we will uh we'll line it up with a sharpie or whatever and then i'll go through with a box blade and just carefully cut down put the cover back on and then put it in the truck and we'll be good to go man i tell you what it is hotter than a tick on a dog's nuts um so we went ahead and cut everything i've had to go two days now uh normally this would take you about half a day but in south texas here we're looking at 105 degrees and then heat index and then we've got good lord we've got like 80 humidity right now so it's pretty nuts let me show you what i did and what the end result looks like for us okay let me uh go ahead and get you guys flipped around so this is the uh this is the end result here okay so i've got the mattress in okay and i've got my head here and uh goes all the way down to the end here i've got my blankets up underneath for storage okay i've got more storage under here right now i just have the bed uh the window liner up under there um mattress here okay and then i'm gonna show you guys why i went ahead and uh and uh had that lowered uh the uh the plywood lower than i uh than i needed to or you guys would have seen it in the video there and the reason for lowering it is this right here i did not want to come grossly above this and then end up blocking my mirror so i came up i measured down to where i was eight inches below here with a two and a half or two inch uh rise above this where i can set my laptop up here and do all my paperwork and what have you that also leaves me a bunch of storage back here in the back okay now you see how it's braced over here okay i've got the blanket stowed up under here i've got my plug-in cooler here okay where i can just open it up get a drink if i need to on the road i've got these boxes that i'm going with this time which are more slim in profile and and wider so overall hold more i can fit these not only here in this space which i'll move this this is just here for now but i can put it back here behind this seat all along here run this entire area flat with my storage boxes if i want without any kind of worry and then again this bed runs all the way down the full length now also something to note guys i'm six foot five okay now that's only about 25 inches of width here is what i gave myself on the mattress it's not very wide but the thing is on my bed at home you know if you're a married man most of you guys know we sleep in one section and a wife takes up you know 95 of it so i sleep in one little corner and she has a rest but this is how this will look and now if i lay in here at six foot five my head here my feet will get just about almost to that dash and i got full stretch out length capability and that's really what i was missing on my first run with my mattress going uh this way right here was i had the width all day long but i didn't have enough length and so my feet were going up into that window or over here in the pillar or over there in that pillar and i really didn't want to do that so uh this way here i think is going to be a lot more efficient for me um it doubles up as my desk and it allows me all of this space and that's really what i like because like i said i've got this space here on this side we'll come around the back and i'm see this is part of your job guys in your home i'm cleaning out the truck and doing maintenance and what have you but uh i got my uh my camping stove underneath here with my propane i got my blankets underneath here my carpeting underneath there you know and then i've got more room all in here that i can put stuff i can put stuff all on top of this jack all in this space here so i've still got more room to go with and so ultimately i think it's just going to be more efficient so that's really how you build a mattress there's really not a whole lot to it now it depends if you're in a rental you got to figure out how dedicated you want to be to um you know to a uh a permanent solution you know i think there's temporary solutions that guys have put out videos on that are probably a lot better if you're in a rental but if you're in your own make it your own all right now i slept on a bench for what two weeks two and a half weeks and i'll tell you right now that is not worth it uh not worth it at all all right it's always worth it to make us make yourself a mattress take your time get everything set up now in the meantime the reason for the delay of this video i was in the process of doing this and then was gonna go you guys see this whoo buddy i was in the process of uh of doing this and then i went to go change my ccv filter on the top and i took out all the all the eight millimeter bolts right so it's uh i think he had four on the cover and then i had another eight that i had to take out i took out all eight and then i went to go raise my cover off and i don't know if it seized on one corner or what but all of a sudden i heard and the cover came out to me and a whole chunk was missing uh out of the bakelite and i'll show you guys what that looks like here so yeah so i had what i had to do there is i had to use a piece of plastic banding with my father-in-law and i and we used a piece of plastic banding along with some jb weld and uh built ourselves a new lip uh to uh to work with that uh that cover that needed to be fixed and so father and on i got it done uh fortunately my father-in-law has got a lot of experience mechanically and so uh quite easy idea of of coming through and using the banding kind of almost as like a plastic rebar um it doesn't hold any real pressure there but it did delay us by almost a good half a day or whole day just trying to get that done and so that delayed me doing this video and finishing up the rest of the truck and now i've got to go through the truck i've got to get everything set back into it i ordered fuel filters two and a half weeks ago and thank goodness for everything going on right now i can't get those so uh that didn't come in so i'll have to go do that while i'm on the road somewhere and so now uh the rest of the projects um we've gone ahead i've got just tools to put away water to put away equipment to organize uh dunnage to put up i've got a vacuum out here that i've got to get put up i had to go through here let me show you the trailer because we had to do this too just getting stuff done with the trailer um okay so then the trailer had to get um i got a notice right before i came home that said trailer disconnected and i looked and of course the ground wire had come loose and so i had to drill a hole through the throughout the frame there and or the cross members and then locking washers locking nut the whole nine and make myself a ground so just think about it guys keep consideration when you guys are making your beds like i said i mean it's a pretty it's like a hotel on wheels right now i mean cooler here camping stove if you want to cook your own food while you're out and about which to be honest with you on the weekends if you guys got to sit a weekend man bust out a camping stove bust out a steak or bust out some chicken do a little marinade or buy some from the grocery store don't eat it the truck stops if you can help it lose some weight if you can like i'm trying to do um and then you know it just it'll make your life a lot easier and i'll give you guys an update of how this thing sleeps but i guarantee just by looking at it right now i know that this is going to be a thousand times better than what i did before other than that i mean that's pretty much it guys i mean it's it's been a project man and then like i said you know you guys can see we're just it's hot hot so i'm gonna leave out in the morning first thing in the morning i've got a run to la uh i've got to take a run out that way so i'm gonna go up to uh the dallas region grab me a load going to la um put some money into the truck and then uh get back after it so till then guys be safe be healthy be happy keep your shiny sides up at all times sleep comfortably build yourself a nice setup i'll see you guys
