No water and no power for days! Stuck in our RV in Texas during Winter Storm Uri

yeah this is quickly turned into something way bigger than we expected like an actual emergency situation all over texas right now yeah yeah and we haven't had water for two days and obviously there's so many people without and so we're just trying to figure out what we're gonna do um because stuff is gonna pretty much be off in here and this is not winterized obviously so this is gonna be interesting over the next few days a lot to figure out hey y'all we are shawn and christina and this is our therapy dog nash we left our home in nashville tennessee to travel the u.s in an rv and shine a bright spotlight on the incredible work that therapy dogs do across our country [Music] it is so cold nash and i just went walking and he was sliding like he wasn't even walking i was just holding him and his suit was like it is freezing literally tonight the low is 10 degrees yeah so um which it's not supposed to do in south texas and i guess it's been first time in what 30 years that's what they say but we were supposed to go to austin and now we're not going to be able to tomorrow there's just an awesome tomorrow and currently it is a sheet of ice outside of our rv so prayers that the people that are supposed to come and take our spot at our rv park do not come because i actually can't imagine having to move spots tomorrow that's gonna be terrible we're in the wild now [Music] we're in the world where in the world you better hurry buddy it's cold holy cow what the heck man i didn't sign up for this he's trying to catch it so the joys of rv living are that you're really excited for snow and then what time is it 3 26 a.m you wake up we got up at 2 30. yeah no it was like 1 57. oh yeah 157 so you wake up at 1 57 because something doesn't feel right because it's ridiculously cold so what ended up happening was that i guess texas is having blackouts because of how cold it is which right now i think it's seven degrees and the power went out so we have space heaters but we also have propane heat and we were running on propane and then our propane went out so i had to get out to switch the tanks and now that we're running on battery power i had to go outside which i don't think you can see it but i had to turn the truck on and hook up to the 7 pin so that our battery doesn't die so and all we want to do is make coffee yeah that's i was just going to say that the one thing that we really want is coffee i never thought that i would be taking coffee to make it out in the truck oh my goodness look at all the snow you are not supposed to have this in texas okay well let's see what we got here oh no dang it i think it's too much oh man this is brutal we lived in an area before that got snow so it's not a big deal but it is a big deal when you're not planning on it and when all your stuff can freeze including water it's not good holy cow [Music] oh nashee playing some snow buddy oh my gosh look at his nose i need a picture of his nose she look at daddy with your nose you are so cute tell me about last night i mean you missed me trying to make coffee in the truck this morning i am so proud of you that you tried you're taking a nap can't even say you're in bed because it was not any kind of sleeping in time because of everything going on no i just it's just crazy because i know you planned for so many things the power going out was truly the last thing on your mind and that happened at two this morning stay here nashmian he's so cute so i don't know it was a really cold night it makes me really grateful for a lot of things that we take for granted to be honest with you i'm currently wearing three pairs of pants and i'm still cold so yeah whose head is that that you're wearing yours hmm mine the ball fell off so it looks stupid interesting well we finally got coffee because the electricity just turned back on so let's get that stuff forward texas pecan coffee from h-e-b-b i don't know how we're even in a good mood right now considering but no we just got to watch nash playing snow so that was pretty cool that was so cute to me that was worth potentially freezing last night for because he's so happy i mean that's a strong statement there it was cold and i remember you whining pretty hard i'm so cold i'm curious to see what the sensors when they kick back on say that the temperature was in there i mean i think i got down to 50 low 50s i i think oops i think low 50s is probably accurate what are we without well that doesn't work and that doesn't work so whose tanks are frozen again we have no water yes our tanks are frozen and uh so we definitely won't be showering until later and hopefully i can work some magic outside with the uh heat gun i hope so which is actually sitting right here so you learned that in iowa i'm glad that i had it because the door latch froze oh my gosh when i was out there whatever it was three in the morning this morning i couldn't get the door shut so i had to grab that to unheat it or heat it yes that was so scary because i was like oh shoot we can get the door shut i didn't expect this my as my nose is running well you know what you better go catch it shawn's dad jokes y'all are gonna be here for a while we're here for a year you're gonna get now's your last chance not to subscribe some of his dad jokes they are so good when we actually have kids that are gonna be like so excellent well let's bust in to this poppy because i am in need of fuel for the day we're in the wild [Music] now [Music] we're in the world [Music] feelings [Music] all right here we go we gotta run to the hardware store to see if we can find anything to get our pipe or spigot where the water comes in to unfreeze and i've got a little heat gun but it doesn't seem to have enough power to do that so i don't know if we're gonna have to take a butane torch to it but overnight my goal is to have some sort of blanket or insulation that i can put over that to make sure it doesn't freeze again well tsc doesn't look open but oh yeah there's an open sign call the wife calling the wife mobile hey no go at tractor supply the guy just laughed at me when i was asking for things he's like you're about a week too late are you serious yeah so and remind me everything that you had on your list to get from there i mean it wasn't necessarily a list i was just checking for a heat gun and then any kind of heating tape or anything for the cords for the hose it has been a really long day you know when you're so tired that like your brain feels intense fog yeah wow what a day so getting back after tsc i found out that it wasn't just me or us it's the entire park that doesn't have water so that's been fun to deal with but at least we're not alone i guess is one way to look at it but our freshwater tank is frozen because we don't have tank heaters so we literally have no water have had no water all day but fortunately you were thinking last night i'm such a camper we had water gallon water containers so we filled those up with tap water last night and so we used those to brush our teeth and stuff but so that's been fun but we initially were going to call it quits and stay at a hotel tonight and just pull up and park in the parking lot because we were originally supposed to be heading to austin today and with all the snow and just everything there was no way we were getting out on the road yeah roll roads we're close yes yeah literally closed even if we wanted to be crazy yeah that wasn't gonna happen so uh yeah we were gonna do a hotel but we just decided to stick it out one more night here all right i've been on the phone calling hotels calling rv resorts even further south than where we're at and either the phones are dead or offline or there's no availability so we can't stay here another night we're running out of battery i think the lights just turned out and the furnace just kicked off so i don't really know what we're gonna do but i know that we have to leave this spot because someone else is coming in tonight so i need to go out and uh get all the slides all the ice off the slides get those taken care of and we need to rock and roll and figure out the cult party is busy cell towers are down too this is nobody's answering their phones or it's just ringing but it's not actually ringing on their end because their electricity's out maybe we could just go sleep in a chick-fil-a i would be fine even working will work for chicken sandwiches heat and electricity water in the shower i don't think we're gonna have any luck on that one hello hello i was wondering if you guys had any availability this evening um this is a room and they are there are no vacancies oh okay sorry about that this was the number that's listed on google maps um yeah that's okay the dashboard is down so it's redoing oh okay gotcha well sorry about interrupting you thank you though it's fine all right see ya i wanted to be like can we stay with you so that's the issue their dashboard is down [Music] okay well we have no place to go nope there's no hotels in like all of texas the ones that you can even get a hold of already full and even if they weren't there's no way we can park the rv in the parking lot because like there's no room if they're full like that so we're gonna stay here another night there's a site that just opened up uh we were just talking with the office and we're just gonna stay there still have no water tonight the electric came back on though here yeah so we need to get over there this is gonna go down as one of the craziest times of our lives so unexpected so unexpected okay we're literally moving one side over what do you want i always call you i'm just kidding she's we're neighbors now well since we're staying here i'm gonna make a run out to the walmart which apparently has a line wrapped around the building because there are limiting people in there and it's literally the only walmart within i don't know probably 20 miles [Music] for where we're at and everybody's still stocking up on stuff so yep they weren't kidding there is a line to get into walmart wow well there's our answer about the water nothing tank good news though they still have beer priorities i guess we need this to happen more often because i'm getting all the good stuff they even had bagel bites oh yeah okay well obviously there was no water but i was able to get some other goodies and like i said this should happen more often because i get to buy all the fun stuff that christina doesn't let me buy in the name of not starving she's gonna laugh so hard when i show her this well that was a lot of fun i do have some good news i think what's that turn it on let's see if it works for real shut up shut up you got water shut up no way oh my gosh oh stop that's amazing messy now we just gotta see if the water heater oh my god nothing works does that mean we can take a shower today i mean if the water heater is working unless you want to take a cold shower but it's going to freeze again tonight definitely not taking any cold you got to do whatever you got to do today well y'all we made it we're so grateful we went almost four days without power and without water and things right does that mean no showers for four days i'm not gonna answer that y'all saw what we looked like so bring your own conclusions to the surface good times but we know that we didn't we had it easy there's so many people that were struggling so much more than us in the city and in the state so we're grateful for what we had now though we are grateful that the sun is shining because the snow's melting and the snow is melting and we are getting ready to head to austin texas so our trip there is going to be a lot shorter than we anticipated with everything going on things have gotten canceled but we're still excited to meet people in that beautiful city and then probably headed to a little bit warmer climate you
