Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I heard on the Sirius Deep Cuts Rush tribute channel with David Fricke after he played this song that it was created and recorded in a few hours after the engineer noticed they needed one more song to fill out both sides of the cassette. You needed equal amounts of content on each side.
Rush's biggest hit in the US all time. Interesting how Fricke also said he was a tour roadie with Rush for a year while being a writer for Circus magazine. He had a few interesting stories.
Another interesting fact - this song wound up being their only Billboard US Top 40 hit, peaking at #21 in October/Nov. β82.
I managed to catch a rerun of American Top 40 with Casey Kasem from around that time and that song was played along with the other hits of that week
According to what I heard was that it was going to be called Project 357 because they needed to come up with 3:57 worth of music to fill out the record. Speaks volumes to their ability to create a song so easily that did just that and was good too.
It is a great track donβt get me wrong but I love every track on signals but itβs probably their weakest to me. My favorite is The Weapon
Love Countdown, the last track, too...esp being a Canuck as they were invited down to a shuttle craft launching due to the interstellar lyrics of the a farewell to king's album....got attention and an award from NASA for neils use of and reference to star charts and black holes.
