joining us for the first time ever i'm trusting that the lord's presence will taught you wherever you are and you will know his blessings today i'm going to ask you to do something can i ask you to all stand up please if you can if you can't sit but if you can i'd like you to stand up and then i'd like you to raise your hands and now begin to worship god begin to thank god and give him praise i know that you have a mask on and it's going to be hard for you but let me encourage you do you remember the story of hanai in one samuel the priest eli saw her her lips were moving but he could hear no sound why because hannah was praying in the spirit and did god not hear on us prayer he heard it loud and clear now begin to thank god you know there's so much to thank god for as a start you are alive to be here today do you recognize that there are people who went to bed last night and they are not here alive today the fact that you are alive means you have hope begin to thank god for the hope begin to praise him begin to rejoice in the knowledge that you can trust in god thank him for everything he has done for you the lord loves it when he hears the praises of his people and he said to him that you love him tell him you love him tell the lord how so much you love him because he loved you first give him glory now give him praise do you know this and you can repeat this if you wish the lord has promised good to you and his word your hope will be secured in he's your shield is your comfort as long as life endures so thank him thank him for this rejoice in the lord praise him thank you for what you are anticipating you've made the effort to be here physically or you have gotten up at home to be part of the service it is because you know the god is good he is very faithful lord we bless you this morning we rejoice and we are glad in you there is no one like you oh god there is none like you lord i lift you up in our duration and in praise as i join lord almighty your people here at the center in thanking you for what you will do amongst us this morning father we thank you we welcome you holy spirit have your way now amazed just be present here fill this praise with your presence bless all your people lord this morning being part of the service online and grant them your peace for we have prayed in jesus name amen amen please take your seats please take your has made it possible over the past 15 months for new life to continue to do what the lord has called us to do to help all those who have asked us for help to support our missionaries who are also in places where they have to be conscious of the kovid for paying our staff even though some had to go and follow so we thank you for your generosity and he who gives to the lord is lending to our maker he has promised always to reward our good deeds i have a prayer request this man in fact i have two prayer requests scots who comes here has asked us to pray for a friend a friend is in hospital and in a very critical situation he has cancer unfortunately he does not know the lord but i'm going to ask you to join as we pray for this man his name is david he doesn't know the lord and he has told god he's scared so let's pray for his salvation i'll also be praying for jenny whose friend sandra baptist has lost a battle to cancer so we'll pray that the lord will comfort jenny let's pray you can sit where you are let's pray father even before we ask you have already began to grant unto us our request lord even at the very last minute the man who was nailed to the cross put his faith in you you promised him salvation we pray father for this man david he doesn't know you he's critically ill father you have a way in which you can make your presence known to him that he can turn to you and receive you lord we're doing what you told us to do to pray for all to be ministering spirits to minister into the lives of people whom you o lord want to draw into the kingdom have mercy upon him in jesus name lord for scott his friend please strengthen him strengthen his faith that he also may be praying regularly for his friend in jesus name for jenny george whose friend uh has lost the battle to cancer we pray for jenny that you comfort her and strengthen her we do not really understand the you know the situation the fact that she's lost the battle we don't know if she's still breathing in our life but you do know we pray for our salvation we pray for your mercy upon her to in the name of jesus and so father as we continue our worship and praise of you this morning let the spirit flow and move freely amongst us touching us lifting our hearts lord towards you and so that we may receive your blessings that are short to us when we praise and worship you thank you good morning church remind you [Music] that i separated the waters to let my people pass i took them across on dry land building a wall of water to protect them as they went through am i not god the god of the impossible ask of me place your burdens at my feet speak them out loud to me and tell me that you put your trust in me and i will deliver you the challenges that you are facing the troubles that have come your way i see and i'm looking and i see the burden you're carrying in your heart and the pain that you are going through at this time i am god in a twinkling of an eye i would let the wind blow all those problems away from you the problems you're facing with your husband the challenges you are going through and i see your faith prayerfully trusting in me to bring things right did he not walk away from you and then came back unexpectedly asking for mercy know this his intolerance because the enemy has put his hands upon him he has allowed the evil one to come into his heart and he is in torment the anger that is displayed is not against you it's because of his lack of control for what he has allowed to call therefore don't give up praying for him he is going to go through a difficult and unchallenging times and therefore this is the time to continue to support him in prayer trusted in me to do the work speak deliverance into his life and i will set him free i am the lord there is nothing that is too hard for me but as for you because you are faithful because you love me the light of righteousness will shine forth in your life you will be finding you have been strengthened day and day and day for the radius of my smile is upon you you are my child these challenges will pass for a time but there is joy coming in the morning and it is the joy of the lord for you one more time [Music] that is who you are [Music] light in the darkness my god that is who you are is who you are that is who you [Music] who are are that is who you are [Music] now i'm gonna hand over to john edwards in france it's with sunday today pentecost sunday is known in many parts of the world it's a time when we remember the coming of the holy spirit on the day of pentecost jesus said to his disciples that he would baptize them in the holy spirit the holy spirit will come and live within those who believe in the lord jesus christ that's god's will for you that you should have his holy spirit dwelling within you in john chapter 7 reading from verse 37 it says on the last and greatest day of the festival jesus stood and said in a loud voice let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink whoever believes in me as the scripture has said rivers of living water will flow from within them by this he meant the spirit whom those who believed in him were later to receive after that time the spirit had not been given because jesus had not yet been glorified john records how jesus was under pressure from his family to travel up to jerusalem for the feast of the tabernacles he resisted their arguments and declined to go up with them probably they want him to arrive in the city with a display of miracles causing a sensation but jesus will not go up that way but later when the others have left he goes up quietly and mid day midway through the festivities he enters into the temple area and begin to teach those who gather there piece of tabernacles lasted a number of days it was a big celebration the final day was the big day jesus was in the crowd in the temple area for that final day part of the ceremonial that took place that day was that a possession of priests would go out from the temple area collecting in a golden vars water from a spring and then they would bring it back into the temple area and pour it out in the court of the temple jesus is there during this final ceremony and standing in the middle of the crowd he gives a lied cry if anyone is thirsty let him come unto me and drink jesus is obviously moved by what he sees and what he experiences that day if anyone is thirsty then come unto me and drink he knew that these symbols of water being poured out represented god's desire to pour out his holy spirit on mankind and he would have been aware of the the desire in the hearts of many who stood about him people had come up to jerusalem there was a longing in many hearts for for life for satisfaction and yet all they had that day were symbols water being poured out they had religious traditions they had that day of the shadow and not the reality noise but no life and jesus wants to respond to the many that are standing around him he recognizing recognizes as a there's a longing in the hearts of many who stood there with him that day john adds an explanation to these words of jesus for the readers of his gospel he speaks of rivers of living water that would flow from within john says that by this jesus meant the spirit that is the holy spirit whom those who believed in him were later to receive up to that time the spirits had not been given since jesus had not been glorified believers in jesus would be able to receive the holy spirit as one who would come and dwell within them the comforter would come to them but not yet on that day when jesus stood in the temple area there was a work that had to be finished before that was made possible jesus expressed it and it's recorded in luke 12 49 he said that i have come to bring fire on earth how i wish it were already kindled but i have a baptism to undergo and what can strain time under until it is completed salvation the breaking of satan's hold on humanity needed the great work of redemption to be accomplished the work of the cross jesus by his death is to break the power of him who holds the power of death that is the devil and free those all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death that's in hebrews chapter 2 verse 14 jesus talked about having to undergo a baptism he's talking about his death he went down into death paying the price for our redemption we could not receive the holy spirit as the indwelling comforter until we were released from our sins until we came into a right relationship with god the holy spirit could not indwell these bodies of ours designed by god to be tempers of the holy spirit but that could not happen before jesus died on the cross and paid the price of his own blood to bring us salvation but forgiven reconciled to god born again through faith in jesus we are then able to receive the gift of the holy spirit the work of salvation is complete jesus is raised from the dead and is now glorified now those who thirst can drink jesus offer made that great day of the feast is now a reality jesus resurrected alive from the dead spent time with his disciples before he ascended back to the father and he gave these instructions to his disciples during that time he was with them acts chapter 1 verse 4 on one occasion while he was eating with them jesus gave this command do not leave jerusalem but wait for the gift my father promised which you've heard me speak about for john baptized with water but in a few days you will be baptized with the holy spirit that's what happened on the day of pentecost the disciples saw jesus ascend up through the heavens on clouds of glory and then they waited after he left they waited a further 10 days in jerusalem as he had commanded them during those 10 days they met together day by day in prayer anticipation and in acts chapter 2 the first verse we read when the day of pentecost came pentecost that's 50 days after the passover when jesus had been crucified when the day of pentecost came they were all together in one place suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven from where that's where jesus has ascended and filled the whole house where they were sitting it wasn't a wind it was the holy spirit sent to them from heaven and when he came that day sounded like a great gale of wind they also saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that came into the place where they were and then the fire separated and tongues of fire came to rest on each one of them god enabled them present that day to witness the arrival of the holy spirit they saw it and they heard it and they noticed how each one present that day men and women receive the holy spirit coming on them and entering them it says in verse 4 of acts 2 they were all filled with the holy spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the spirit enabled them as the holy spirit came into them they were aware of his presence within and felt a prompting to speak speak out in praise and worship but not not in their own words but the words that the holy spirit gave them and they began speaking out in tongues languages they had never learned the holy spirit moving in their spirit and pouring out praise from within they gladly cooperated with this anointing and empowering yielding their voices to the spirits prompting jesus was full of pilgrims at that time and what was happening to the disciples now filled with the holy spirit caused some constellation amongst the crowds that were there attracted by the noise they ran together and they heard these galileans loudly praising god in languages and many of the people who ran together visitors pilgrims they recognized the languages that were being used they were the languages spoken where they came from where they lived and they ask the question how is it that each of us hears them in our native language verse 80 says they were parthens means elements residents of mesopotamia judea cappadocia ponchos and asia phrygia and pamphilia egypt and the parts of libya near cyrene visitors from rome both jews and converse to judaism cretans and arabs we hear them declaring the wonders of god in our own language it was one of the big festivals at jerusalem and jews and believers in the lord from all over the empire of rome and the empire of the parthens they made their way to jerusalem many languages represented there and they said we hear them declaring the wonders of god in our own tongues some of those who gathered are scornful and mocked oh they're drunk they said but peter taking opportunity of the people that clamored around them declared to them that no this is not they're drunk verse 15 of chapter two these people are not drunk as you suppose it's only nine in the morning no this is what was spoken by the prophet joel in the last days god says i will pour out my spirit on all people your sons and daughters will prophesy your young men will see visions your old men will dream dreams even though my servants both men and women i will pour out my spirit in those days and they will prophesy this is what god has promised through joel centuries before this is what we've been waiting for peter then challenged them and accuse them of putting jesus to death he then went on to say verse 32 god has raised this jesus to life and we are all witness of israel order was standing with peter that day those were to receive the infilling of the holy spirit they were able to testify to the truth that jesus was alive from the dead and then peter went on to say he is exalted to the right hand of god jesus exalted has received from the father the promised holy spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear god has made this jesus whom you crucified both lord and messiah when the people heard this they were cut to the heart and said to peter and the other apostles brothers what shall we do the spirit of god was working in the hearts of the crowds as they stood around conviction was coming what shall we do peter replied repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for the forgiveness of your sins repent repentance is a change of heart a change of attitude many of them their attitude to jesus had been totally wrong repent he says recognize you've made a big mistake recognize that jesus was in fact the son of god repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the holy spirit the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off for all whom the lord our god will call that statement of peter's on the day of pentecost it reaches right down the centuries to us today since that day all those who receive jesus as savior can receive the holy spirit can be baptized in the holy spirit he's willing to come and live within those words of peter that day are for us today he spoke of those who were far off well that's us we're far off in time from that day approximately 2 000 years far off in distance outside of the old covenant a different culture but notice what peter said the promise is for all who are called of the lord the message is still going out the gospel message god is still drawing men and women to himself challenging them to put their faith in jesus we are this morning as believers in jesus called of the lord god the father wants all who trust in his son for the forgiveness of sins to be baptized in the holy spirit as those waiting believers were on the day of pentecost he wants to fill you and as you're filled he wants to enable you as he did them to speak in tongues and to worship god in spirit and in truth the question for each one of us this morning have i been baptized in the holy spirit have i received the gift of speaking in tongues well the great news is it's for you if you're a believer in jesus the moment you become a child of god by faith in jesus you are ready to receive the baptism of the holy spirit there are some listening this morning whom god desires to fill some who as they are filled will simply begin to speak in tongues moving out into the life of the spirit and the miraculous that is god's plan for you god wants you to be filled with the holy spirit this morning he wants you to have that experience of being baptized in the holy spirit how do i receive well listen to the words of jesus that rang out on that great day of the feast when he stood amongst the crowd if anyone thirst come unto me and drink that's how you receive are you thirsty that's the first thing spiritually thirsty do you want more of god do you want that experience of the holy spirit living within you you need to be filled with the holy spirit do you ever hunger and a desire in your heart for more of god are you thirsty and then who do you come to well what did jesus say if anyone thirsts come to me it is jesus we come to we call upon him lord i want the holy spirit lord jesus i want to be filled to overflowing i want those rivers of living water to flow out from my innermost being fill me lord i come to you as my savior come unto me said jesus that needs to be the cry from your heart come to me said jesus and drink do you know how to drink so simple to drink you were born knowing how to drink 62 years ago i attended my church one sunday evening and a visiting speaker bo spoke on the baptism the holy spirit when he said that evening stirred my heart at the close of the service the invitation was given out to come forward anyone who wanted to receive the holy spirit and i was among a number who went forward to the room at the back the speaker talked to us very simply he said the holy spirit is poured out all you have to do is drink in the holy spirit i remember listening to him thinking can it be so simple yes it was that simple that night as a 15 year old the holy spirit came to live in me hands were laid on me as i sought the lord to be filled i was encouraged to just to drink in the holy spirit i sat down in a chair and just drank i just breathed in lord i want to be filled with the holy spirit lord fill me with your holy spirit sitting there quietly telling the lord how much i loved him oh i love you lord i thank you for my salvation lord i want to be filled with the holy spirit and as i just talked to the lord like that i became aware of words inside now the thing was i'd heard people speaking in tongues and so the devil had a real go at me he said that's not the holy spirit that's just you remembering what other people have said i didn't do anything but it was still there and i will say lord fill me fill me and those words were still inside so eventually i just began to speak them out very quietly well the devil repeated his lies again he came and said oh you're doing a terrible thing now you're making up tongues friends how many people does he try that one on so i stopped but the words were still there so i began to speak them again i just kept going just kept speaking just keep speaking and it was just like jesus had said it was if a river began to flow from within ask the scripture says and you'll receive lord fill me with your holy spirit and god meets that desire of our hearts in luke chapter 11 verse 13 jesus is talking to the disciples and the crowd about how even if they are ungodly fathers they give goodness to their children and he went on to say how much more will your father in heaven give the holy spirit to them that ask him you've accepted jesus savior your heavenly father wants you to be filled with the holy spirit he wants you to ask him how much more will your father in heaven give the holy spirit to those who ask him lord i want to be filled with the holy spirit lord i want to experience what you designed me for thank you lord lord as i come to you in the name of jesus i ask you to fill me that night i received so simply i was told the holy spirit is given he's been poured out jesus did the work on the cross to make you fit and able to receive the holy spirit now just receive maybe this morning you have a desire in your heart maybe you have that longing inside lord i want more of you lord i want to be filled with your holy spirit maybe in the past you've had experiences before when the spirit of god has moved on you but you've become a bit sort of so lazy but you haven't really followed it through god wants you to have that longing that desire and openness for himself he wants you to be filled and bubbling over with the holy spirit this morning we're going to pray together and what i encourage you to do is just to breathe in the breath of god ask lord fill me i want to be baptized in the holy spirit thank you lord and as you just breathe in the power of the holy spirit you anticipate him giving you those words inside that you're able to just begin to speak out have the courage to do it look to him and you will find that river of water begin to flow heavenly father in the name of jesus we pray that you will pour out your holy spirit in the hearts and lives of those who were looking to you this morning those were listening to this message this morning oh lord we want to experience you bubbling up within we want to experience the holy spirit motivating us moving us filling us with your goodness and grace and now in the name of jesus we just receive that infilling of the holy spirit thank you lord and you just begin to breathe in the power of the holy spirit right now lord we bless you we thank you and then you just begin to worship and praise god in those new languages he gives you kimura thank you lord thank you lord that i'm your child thank you that you've saved me thank you lord that i belong to you thank you lord that your desire is that i will be filmed to overflowing with your holy spirit i bless you lord i worship you as we worship the lord in tongues together let the river flow from your innermost being let it come bubbling up thank you lord thank you lord let the holy spirit fill you let him motivate you that is joy and peace fill your heart and fill your life that's what jesus said wasn't it my joy i give unto you my peace i give unto you and as the holy spirit fills you within that joy that peace is there and can i encourage you that every day every day you put into effect the wonder of being able to worship god in other tongues allow the holy spirit morning by morning day by day just a bubble up from within thank you lord thank you for your goodness and your grace for your love for your kindness we worship you we praise you and we thank you amen hallelujah i'm going to encourage you to please stand up and to respond to the message that john has given to us as the worship team leads i'm going to encourage you to please begin to practice what john has said if you're already speaking tongue then just speaking thoughts through your mask if you haven't already received the holy spirit [Music] just do what it is that he has said breathe in desire and the spirit of the lord will come unto you so let's just engage ourselves and encourage ourselves for a few moments as the worship team leads
