evening with you. - Me, too. You know, baby we should
do this more often. - We should?
- We should, really should, except for just
special occasions. - (laughing) I know. - I'm so happy that
you're having my son. - Uh, excuse me, your daughter. - Oh, I guess. Oh, come on, baby, sit down. Relax, relax. Relax yo cute self. - With this stomach? - Yeah, baby, you
are still gorgeous. Good. - Thank you, honey. - Relax. Now, you know, baby I
think we should go ahead and just get the sonograph. So, that way, we
don't have to guess. - No, Shaun, I don't,

can come in between me properly taking
care of him is you, my drinking, my hanging out. None of it, I'm done. - Girl, when you start to

handling my stuff. Oh, thank you, I needed that. (laughing) What is that?! - Girl, that's
water on the rocks. Without the rocks. - You always trying
to be funny, Demetria. That's not even funny. - Yes it is, Girl. - You almost make me choke. Can I ask you a question? - Sure. - So do you think that Shaun
is as happy as you are? - Absolutely. In fact,
I believe he's happier. - Really? - Yes, because Shaun
is a great man and he's a hard worker, a
wonderful provider and even better lover. - Girl, ain't no body want
to hear about all that. But I do tell you what. - What? - He's a great provider and
better lover and all this stuff. After you have that baby... - What? - He's going to change. - Oh no, That's
where your wrong. - Oh yes, he's going to change. - Your wrong, your wrong.
That's where you're wrong. - You just wait and
see, I promise you that. - No ma'am, I disagree. You're used to those
five baby daddies and all of them other kinds of people
who aren't doing anything for you. My man, my Shaun, he's out
there working a double shift right now to make sure
that we're going to be good when I go out on

out there working. He's working on his
second drink before he have to come home and
have to deal with you. - You know what? Get
out of my house, girl. - That's how you going to do me? Put me out like that? - Yep. Get out. - That's not even how
you treat a good friend. Aw come on, when you
going to have that baby so we can go back to the club. I miss my drinking buddy. - I've done told
you. I have changed. I'm really trying to be
a different person now. Can you just respect that? - Bet you that you are always
going to be the same person that you were. - Whatever. - When I met you, a long
time ago, and the same person that you not trying to be
now, you are always going to be her. - Chloe, no I'm not. Look,

that changes. Goodbye. - I see you later girl? - Yeah I see you later. - Bye. - Shaun, shaun! Oh shaun baby! Shaun! - Demetira? Baby what's wrong? - It's the baby. - No, no it can't
be. It's too soon. - Shaun, I think I'm
having contractions. - Are you okay? - Shaun, get me to the hospital. - But you're only seven months. - I don't care.
- Okay, we going. - Shaun, baby,
where are you going? Shaun, me! - Okay, okay, we gonna get ya. Sorry, come on breath. (lamaze breathing) - Shaun! (dramatic bells and piano) - Mr. Johnson? - Yeah. - We'll come and get you
after we prep your wife. - Prep? What do you
mean being prepped? I don't understand. My wife's not due yet. - Mr. Johnson, okay first

a young man stand up and want to have a family. - Thank you, I appreciate that. I just want my wife and
my child that's all. But my wife's not due
yet, so what's going on? - Well, you the know
the general rule is nine months. That fact of the matter
is though, when that baby is ready it's going to
come on it's own terms. So what we do is, we do
what we can to welcome that bundle, every
bundle that God sends. - You saying she's
having a baby? - No, no. Mr. Johnson

is in labor right now. But the doctors are
doing everything they can to make sure that
your little joy gets a full and healthy
life. Alright? - Alright. - We'll come and get

went really well in the delivery room. You have a beautiful baby girl. - Thank you, Jesus, thank you! Can I see my
daughter and my wife? - Before you meet your
daughter, there are some things I need to
discuss with you first. - What is it doctor? You said
that everything was okay. What's wrong? - Your wife is
extremely exhausted and she needs time
to rest first. While she's resting
up, I think you and should discuss some things. - Well, what is it
doctor? What's going on? - Your wife had some
complications throughout her pregnancy and unfortunately
your daughter was born prematurely. - Prematurely? - Prematurely means that
she was born before term. - Is my daughter
going to be alright? That's all I wanna know.
Is she going to be okay? - Well, we can't say right now. Premature babies do have some
difficulties that they face. Various disabilities because
their organs have not had a chance to
fully develop yet. And there could be some
things that come about later. - Is there any tests you can
run or anything like that? - There are but until those
test results come back, we will need to watch
for the visible signs of abnormalities. - Okay, well just run
any test that you can. - We will, but in the mean
time we need you to be prepared for any challenges
that may come about. - You'll be honest
with me right, doctor? - I'll be honest with you. There is something that I
should probably share with you. If your daughter makes
it the next 72 hours, then she'll live. But I have to be honest, she
may not make it past age 12. I need you to be
prepared for that. - Okay, I don't
understand, but Thank you. I don't get it, my wife
and I were both healthy. I just don't get it. - There is no fault.
There is no blame. These things they just happen. They happen. - Something must
have went wrong. Something had to
go wrong with us. - Nothing went wrong with you, you and your wife
are both healthy. Mr. Johnson did you
hear what I said? You and your wife
did nothing wrong, these things happen. They happen to good people.
They happen to bad people. They happen to healthy people. They happen to
people who don't even take care of themselves. There is no blame or fault. These things happen. You have to enjoy the time
you have with your child. - What about Demetria?
Does she know? - Hold on a minute, Mr.
Johnson, she doesn't know yet. She does not know. - What you mean
she doesn't know? That's going to destroy her. - I have a daughter who might
not live over the age of 12! - Mr. Johnson! Mr Johnson!
- You don't know my wife! - Mr Johnson! Your
wife is exhausted. I'll give you some time. - I don't know what. This foolishness right now. (somber music) (medical device beeping) (funky transition) - Hey, I've already

to go to sleep. So I just want you to rest. I'm going to go check on her,

Okay? I'll be right back. (knocking on door) Who is it? - It's Momma. Hey baby. - Hey. - How you doing?
- I'm fine. I'm so glad to see you. Lets go in the dining room

her, you go take care of the baby, okay? Stay strong. - Okay, thanks Mom. - Hurry up go take care
of her, I don't like her crying like that makes me
think you doing something to her. - Yes Ma'am. - Hey baby. How are you? Look Demetria, you can't
continue to beat yourself up like this. That little girl, my
grand child, needs you. Yes, Carrington needs you. There may be a couple of
challenges that you all are going to have
to work through but, she's a blessing. God has blessed you

you are not blaming God for your child's condition. That baby is alive and
breathing that is all that you can ask for. You are blessed. Look, I got to go, but
before I go I'm going to pray with you. Okay baby? Heavenly Father, I come to
you asking that you will keep my child, Lord. Help
her heart. Help her to know that you God and that
you are yet in control. Even in this situation, Lord. I ask that you will
bless my son, Lord. Bless my young granddaughter. Father, I know that you have
a special plan for this child. And for this family. And I know that all things
work together for the good of those that
love the lord. Who are called by your purpose. In the name of
Jesus I pray. Amen. I got to go, but you know Mommy
is here when you need her. Shaun, come let me out baby. - [Shaun] Alright, here I come. Hey, I just fed your grandbaby. She finally went to sleep. - Okay, we need to
talk. Come here. I'm going to really need for you to be the man of the house. She's going through a lot
right now with her hormones. To be quiet honest with
you, Shaun, she's angry. You're going to have
to be strong baby. - Yes Ma'am. I gotta go. Kiss my baby
for me and be strong. I'm praying for ya'll. - Come on baby, everything's
going to be alright. Look, just take your pills okay? Here. Take your pills, everything's
going to be alright. If you need anything, I'll
be checking on Carrington. Baby, take your pills, alright? (brooding music) - God, huh? You mean nothing to me. How in the hell you going
to give me a husband who can't produce
a healthy child. Instead I get this child
who ain't even normal. Promised me you would
get me a child that could one day go outside and
play on the swings. Go off to college,
and get married. And make me a grandmother. How in the hell could
you do this to me?! (Demetria crying) My child's supposed
to be normal! I did everything right. I went to church. I clean, I cook,
I did everything. But I assume by
your eyes I didn't. That is not my child in there. My child died on that table. And I refuse to take care of it! You're the almighty
God! You do it! You created her, fashioned
and formed her in my womb! How the hell you going to
give Chloe five healthy kids, by five different men, and she ain't married
to none of them. You know what God? You mean nothing to me. I hate you! I hate this marriage! I hate Shaun! And I even hate that
damn child in there! Know what? I don't
want this any more. I don't want any of it. How am I going to love a child
that can't love me back!? God I hate you! I thought all things worked
together for the good. But I guess not for Demetria. Shaun. Shaun, shaun. Shaun... - Demetria? Demetria, baby! Wake up. Come on, baby please. Please stay with me.
Stay with me please. Oh Demetria. Please. Please baby stay with me. Baby, baby come
on. Stay with me. Please, please
just stay with me. (funky transition) - What's going on man? What you look at
me like that for? I'm sorry for greeting. - I'm sorry man. It's no need to apologize. It's just that I've been dealing
with this hell for the past eleven years man. With my wife, and my baby. - But dang dawg,
your baby lived, bro. - I'm not complaining
about Carrington living. I'm not. I love my child, man. And my child loves me. She smiles every
time she sees me. - I can see the
glow in your eyes. But what about ol'... - That's the hell I've been
dealing with. Demetria. - Yeah, your wife. - Yeah, you know what? She can't even look
her own child without resentment written
all over her face. - The sad thing is that
kids are very smart and they catch on to
stuff like that. Especially when they
feel resentment. - I don't know man.
- Ah my babies. - My babies special. But
Carrington's not stupid. She knows her mother
doesn't love her. She knows it to the fact that
she avoids her own mother. - That's crazy dawg. - I know, but she
loves her daddy. - She love her daddy?
- She love her daddy. And I love her too.
My little girl. - You know what man?
You gotta love that. I don't now what I'd do if
I was in your situation. - I'm just saying.
- Ah, come on. - You'd do the exact same
thing that I'd do, Dawg. You would be there
for your little girl and take care of her. - The thing is, I'm not
talking about the little girl. I'm not talking
about that child. I'm talking about that
ignorant wife of yours. - Come on, man. - That's my wife man.
- She ignorant. She crazy. - She may get a little
eccentric at times. That's my wife, alright? - Alright. - She's a good woman, though. She kinda just got pushed
over the edge with all this. - Over the edge? She
fell off the cliff. She done fell in the Grand
Canyon. She ignorant. - Come on man. - You right, I'm sorry. I'm disrespecting your wife. - We just wanted
a normal family. A normal, everyday, family
like everybody else. You know, but Carrington
is special. She is. She can't learn like
other kids and has a lot of medical issues,
but this is my life. I've accepted that and I'm
committed to my family. - Even if your wife ain't? - Come on, what am I
supposed to do man? What am I supposed to do?
Just pack up and leave? - Might as well, dawg. - So you got all the answers?
- I'm just saying. - She ain't here for you
anyway. You might as well leave. - Somebody has to be
here for Carrington. - Take her with you. - I can't just do that. I
can't just leave my wife. I can't and I'm not going to. - You know what?
How about this man, you better than me, you got
a lot of stuff going on. I know it's hard taking care
of the stuff around the house. You like the Mr.
Mom of the house. I'mma help you
fold these clothes. You ever thought about
getting some help for special kids, or
anything like that? - I would never! I would never ever put my child
in somebodies else's care. - You walking up
on the wrong man. - That's my baby.
That's my child! - You right, you right. Calm down, dawg. - All me and Demetria
wanted was just a normal, everyday family. Just us, and a healthy baby. A wife that I could love,
and that loves me back. Everyday I try to keep it
together for my family. But it's not easy. I work like a dog. I work like a dog trying
to keep this family. And to come home to
a wife that acts like I did something wrong? It's not fair man. It's not! Demetria can't even love
the child that we produced. I would never abandon
my baby, man, ever. That's my baby man. That's my baby that
she treats like a dog. (fake crying) Man, come on. Stop playing. - Dawg, I'm just trying
to lighten up the moment. Bring up the mood. I wouldn't talking about
just sending her off. Not like adoption or
anything like that. Just some help. Just a thought, dawg. - I'm sorry man.
- Just trying to help you. - It's been a lot, man. I
don't know what would happen to my little girl if I
left her with her mother. So I stay and deal
with this hell. But not my child. She's
an angel sent from heaven. But from her mother. - Do you even love her? - Of course I love her, man. She's my wife, for better
or for worse, right? - I think the worst
is here, dawg. I'm just saying, you
know what though? We're boys, we go way back
from hopscotch to dice. Back from Dickson circle. You're a better man than me,
and I commend you for it. - You're a much better man
than you think you are. A lot of my so-called
friends haven't been by since Carrington's been in our lives. So, I appreciate
you, I really do. - That's because I'm
not your friend, dawg. I'm like your brother. We ain't going to worry
about them, I got your back. - Thanks dawg.
- I got yo back. - We like peanut butter and... yeah - I got your back, dawg.
- I appreciate it. - I appreciate it man. You know if you need anything
you're more than welcome to come by and holla at me. - Aight, I'm going to
get on out of here. And you know if
you need me though, If you wanna talk 'cuz I know you're going through some stuff. I see it on your face,

It's Carrington! - What?!
- It's Carrington! - Baby, it's Carrington! - I got her, I got her. Come on. - God bless you Shaun,
God bless you Demetria. I just want you to know
I'm praying for you and I appreciate you taking
this time to talk and pray because that's the main
thing we're going to do. First, I just want to
know how you're doing? - We're okay, I guess. Things could be a whole lot
better, but to say the least we're doing okay. - Bless you, God bless you. Demetria how you doing? - See Pastor, that's
one of the things we've been dealing with. She doesn't talk
at all here lately. - Yeah, that is understandable. What I'm gonna do is just
spend some time hopefully depositing some seeds that
will later on, be nourished by. Because this is a dark
time, and there's no way I can talk away the pain. But I can pray that God will
give you strength as you deal with it. One of the things I think
both of you know is that God identifies so much
with you're dealing with because God knows what
it means to lose a child. He lost his only Son. His only Son was
crucified, was murdered and so at least take comfort in
knowing you're not in this by yourself. This is one of those things
where you need someone to feel what you feel, well
God feels what you feel better than I can, because God,
again, as gone through this. Remember the example
of David in scripture. The Bible says he also lost
a child and he said when his child died, he worshiped God. And people said "Why are
you worshiping God now?" and he said "because my child
can't come back to me but " I can go back to my child." That's the beauty of this
eternal life, death does not have the last word. Number one, but then number two When you turn to God and not
from God, and that's what I'm pleading with you to do,
turn to God and not from God. Because in doing that, you
can turn to each other and not on each other or
from each other. Turn to God and worship. You may not feel it, but
here's what God will do: With all of your questions
you may have, such as why God? I don't know there are
no answers for this. The beautiful thing is a life
has been saved even through this child. That's
the beautiful thing. God is good like that. None of this makes sense. So what God is going
to do, is somehow give you strength
to get through it. So God won't explain why
is this happening but God will sustain you
through what's happening. That's what I need you
to know, God sustains, God gives strength, God's
grace is sufficient, God will keep you.
So please know that. And know that I am praying
with you, and praying for you. I'd like to pray right
now, if you don't mind. - Please, Pastor. (gentle piano) - Let's go to God. Oh God we thank you and praise
you that we can turn to you in any situation. Your word says cast your cares
upon God, knowing that God cares for you. Oh God in the name of Jesus,
I lift up in prayer this your couple. I thank you for
bringing them together. I don't know what's going on in terms of what you're
up to, but I know you're sovereign. I know you
care. I know you love them. With a healing love. So, in the matchless name
of the Prince of Peace, the Great Physician, I claim
by father your healing touch that you would minister to
them right where they are in their brokenness
and grant them healing. We thank you already
for the gift and promise of eternal life. And so this precious
child, oh God, is with you that we will one
day see together. So in the name of Jesus
Christ, heal, give strength, give peace, and give direction. I believe in you, oh God, that the best days for this
couple are not behind them but in front of them. And so by faith,
you receive them in the name of Jesus, Amen. - Amen. (Demetria softly crying) - God is able. - Babies, I'm going to
go back here and fix ya'll something to eat. - Thanks, Mom. You alright baby? Come on baby, you can't keep
being so hard on yourself. Come on baby, you gotta stop
beating yourself up, alright? I lost her too. - But you didn't
lose someone that you talked so much evil to. (Demetria coughing) - It's alright baby. It's okay. - You didn't lose someone that you'd shown so much hatred to. You didn't lose someone
that you neglected for eleven years of their life. You didn't lose someone who you carried for seven months and
went through labor pains for. Shaun, I feel so bad
inside right now. How could somebody be so
mean to somebody so helpless? I was so mean-spirited. I didn't care for you,
or Carrington, or anybody that loved me. - Look baby, we all have issues
and go through things that we regret. I can't judge you or hold
it over your head because it just wouldn't be right. I'm not saying what
you did was right, but I can't judge you. You and only you have
to make peace with God. Baby, we all make
mistakes but somehow we just have to learn
from our mistakes and place all our cares and
fears in God's hands and just move on. - I don't think God will
forgive me for this. - Yes he will. - Shaun I was so
hateful toward God. I stopped going to church. I stopped praying. I just felt like
God let me down. - No, no baby. God never lets us
down. He never does. Baby, just because you stopped
going to church and praying and studying the
word, doesn't mean God isn't going to give
you a second chance. - But it doesn't
feel like it Shaun. - We always question God. We always question Him wondering
why some people get blessed and others don't. - Like Chloe.
- Exactly, like Chloe. - How do some people
who live ungodly lives get blessed and those who
try to live right, don't? Have you ever thought that
maybe God has his reasons? - What are they? - I don't know, but
what I do know is that our God is a sovereign God. We don't always understand
why he allows certain things to happen but we just have to
trust him and believe in him. - That's the hard part.
- I know it's hard. - I can't trust him, Shaun.
- Yes you can! Yes you can. Baby, who are we to judge God? God doesn't owe
us an explanation. Who are we to judge God, huh? - That's right baby. Look Demetria, you going
to have to get over this. You can't keep doing this, baby. Look, Momma know that
this is the hardest thing that will ever happen to you. Losing a child is
so hard, I get it. When I lost your brother, it
took everything out of me. But baby, you got

Demetria, I know. (Demetria sobbing) - Baby, baby, baby.
