Netflix Avatar Episode 6 Critical Review

everything we've been through so all of this belong to Roku I said it's a terrible plan anything you need it has to do with Co anything but that spin a lifesaver really you have information on all the past avatars that no one else has God oh no no [Music] welcome back to another masochistic installment of Netflix Avatar as the last episode ended on a cliffhanger I was intending on making one video for both but due to the length I decided to split them up at the end of episode 5 so there is a little bit more coverage at the end of this video with that said let's Soldier on episode six masks stupid seriously [ __ ] off with these shitty titles so we begin with a flash flashback and I actually approve of the placement of this flashback iro is helping Zuko prepare for his first war council meeting and give zuku a word of advice open your [ __ ] ears and shut your [ __ ] mouth which Zuko apparently takes a heart then we return to the present and zugo asks the snow monkey why they've changed course the snow monkey tells them because they received new orders zukul ask by who and then Admiral Admiral xia steps up and says he did I kill him the new orders from ozai gives him full charge in finding the Avatar of course xia acts like a smug [ __ ] and zugo responds like an entitled [ __ ] being sent to his room without dessert after watching this scene I had to check to make sure I wasn't watching Mean Girls I mean who the [ __ ] wrote this catty [ __ ] dialogue no offense to Mean Girls but this episode just started we have to sit through another 50 [ __ ] minutes of this [ __ ] God damn it are you [ __ ] with me then the snow monkey lets iro know how he feels about Zuko and iro tells him that the [ __ ] he has endured doesn't compare to the [ __ ] Zuko has gone through well boo [ __ ] who anyway Ang arrives at roku's Temple without any issues what the hell what the hell what the [ __ ] is going on there in the previous episode monu said it's dangerous because it's deep in the Fire Nation well I guess that dead old [ __ ] doesn't know what he's talking about because an got there as if he were making a run to a 7-Eleven I mean thank You' come again oh that's right he's not going to omashu AKA new Bombay but to the Fire Nation you go now no trouble the point is if the pole head Riders are going to make it a cakewalk for Ang to get into the Fire Nation why they even stated it was dangerous in the first place they just wrote a check they knew their asses couldn't cash where did you learn your train you stupid [ __ ] [ __ ] you idiot so now I have to introduce a source material Ang's not going to roku's Temple to save the villagers from the spirit world that's all [ __ ] he already saved him when he realized the Habi is the angered Forest Spirit when he presented an acorn assuring that the forest will recover the Hai is no longer angry and leaves calm and the villagers are returned problem solved end of storyline however during the time time he was solving the problem he meets roku's spirit guide and learns that Roku needs to talk to him and goes to roku's Temple because on the solstice the sun will shine on the Statue of Roku allowing them to talk so as they enter the Fire Nation they're met with a Fire Nation blockade and it is here that we meet Commander Xiao for the first time of course he isn't an incompetent officer patrolling the ass end of the world but a legitimate ambitious and competent Commander cut the engines and let them pass sir eventually team Avatar reach roku's Temple and when Ang speaks of Roku this is the time when Roku tells Ang about San's Comet and he must complete his Avatar training and stop oai before it arrives this is a huge Story episode for the show overall and yet none of this was in the episode These Hoople heads at Netflix Chang the show from being episodic to serialized and they omit the most important story-driven aspect of the whole first season what the [ __ ] is going on there anyway let's continue with this episode's narrative standing at the doorway of the temple Ang hides but then sees fire sages approaching then he steps out of hiding and presents himself as the Avatar which they say yes wait now you and attack him after a short chase a good fire Sage saves him and takes him directly to roku's Temple where he stands C outside while an contacts Roku so far so stupid but let's continue the whole reason why he's com here is so he could ask Roku how to defeat Co to save his friends and the villagers of course he tells him it's some trinket he stole from him and Co might be willing to trade for it what what the [ __ ] are you talking about then back in the real world Ang takes the trinket and leaves so that's it God damn it are you [ __ ] with me however outside the temple chamber he sees the fire stages all paralyzed and then we see Jun and Nyla the paralyzer now I'm sure everyone said the same thing when they saw this episode how the [ __ ] did she get to roku's Temple in the Fire Nation and back again the answer girl boss mode activated and that in itself is enough for an answer do we really need to know the details of how Jun and Nyla travel from the earth Nation across the sea and Into the Fire Nation territory and Back Again of course not that's useless detail logic and Common Sense is overrated right yes anyway Ang wakes up with June in some cave and Zuko and iro arrive of course Zuko is surprised because he's just an NPC and a woke Dei agenda driven narrative but we all see the blatant [ __ ] all to the detriment of the show is that showing respect to the source material and creators get the [ __ ] out of here in a cart zuku and iro fairy Ang back back to his ship Ang pleads to be released to save his friends but Zuko doesn't allow him to then as their conversation continues you could smell a flashback Brewing around the corner [ __ ] [ __ ] so we flashback to Zuko's first war council meeting at the beginning he heeds iol's advice by keeping his mouth shut until ozai asks for his opinion when he gives it ozai strikes it down immediately as poor advice then one of the generals suggests a different tactic and Zuko asks how will that division Retreat and the general States they won't so Zuko inquires that they're going to sacrifice a division and ozai says yes the general says he'll send in the 41st division to be sacrificed because they are the greenest and the most Expendable and ozai approves then as the meeting is finished the general walks over to Zuko and Whispers some Comet isn't wrong but said in an extremely condescending tone tzuko says to the room it's a bad plan of course this pisses off oai and he announces an agne Kai I'll [ __ ] [ __ ] you up back in the present look at their cart ride don't you think if you had a very high valued prisoner in custody you'd show a little bit more haste instead zukul is driving as fast as aart from Mr Toad's Wild r at Disneyland [ __ ] [ __ ] hell [ __ ] hell [ __ ] hell anyway the get ambushed by Admiral Xiao and zukul has no choice but to hand him over then we see Ang chained up in poai station and he has a brief conversation with Adel which is relatively accurate then he addresses his troops telling them they're going to celebrate so as a wagon of wine is being brought into the Fortress we see a purse underneath wearing a blue spirit mask so of course he infiltrates into the complex through all the guards and checkpoints and makes a Bel line right to Ang cell all the locations that could be locked up at the blue Spirit knows exactly where he's at who is this blue spirit I wonder then he free Ang and they escape together him and Ang fight their way out and the fight scenes gave me a flashback to another movie pathetic they fight their way to the gate and the blue Spirit puts his swords on A's neck forcing admal child to let them go so he opens the gate and commands The Archers to shoot the blue Spirit hitting him right on the mask why didn't the arrow Pierce The Mask the answer depends if you want a logical answer or a [ __ ] one if you want the logical answer it's who the [ __ ] knows if you want the [ __ ] one it's because the stor isn't done with this [ __ ] guy yet what else is new anyway Ang lifts the mask ask and it's Zuko no [ __ ] now who didn't know it was Zuko who the hell else could it be it can't be Sima or qara Su they're both suck in the spirit world so who knows where Ang is and wants to get him out that leaves you only with one [ __ ] person left that's [ __ ] shitty storytelling [ __ ] [ __ ] [ __ ] I'm [ __ ] stupid in the source material the title of the episode was the blue Spirit unlike the generic and shitty title masks giving the character the title of the episode one of the things that comes to mind is this show is introducing a new character which makes to reveal a legitimate surprise not a surprise like [ __ ] but more like [ __ ] out anyway any hides with Zuko in some supply room now why don't the guards search a nearby supply room at this point you should know better not to ask logical questions [ __ ] hell a line low Ang strict a conversation talking about all things Zuko's stupid notebook about fast avatars get the [ __ ] out of here anyway the conversation that is supposed to be deep and meaningful is in reality a shallow as a rain puddle until Ang talks about compassion which pisses off Zuko and Ang knocks him out then we flash back to Zuko's agnik Kai and we know the result of that however it's been changed Zuko actually duels against oai unlike the original where he refuses to fight which is the reason why oai banishes Zuko then Ang puts Zuko on a boat and pushes him off and the two- part weighs back on Zuko's ship irro patiently waits for him when the snow monkey asked to relieve him of his watch after turning down his request iro interjects for no specific reason and begins his spiel about how Zuko cares about the crew then we flash back to Zuko poost agnik Kai as he recovers in bed oai visits and tells him his spirit is weak then Zuko says the weak can become stronger and it's because of this that oai banishes Zuko thus had Zuko not said anything he wouldn't have been banished that's a [ __ ] nonsense this changes ozai's character completely instead of banishing zugo because he showed weakness in refusing to fight he's banishing him more along the lines of petty anger and then as oai leaves he gives him the 41st division [ __ ] hell thus Zuko didn't save them yeah he spoke up saying it was a bad plan but in the end oai still could have carried out the same plan and still used the 41st as a sacrificial division it's oai that saved him by assigning the division to Zuko you lucky boss in the source material his crew is not specifically the 41st it it's just a crew of a single ship iro tells them the story of what had happened to Zuko and then they understand Zuko's obsession with chasing the Avatar and finally the shittiest part of the episode is a resolution of the previous episode's Cliffhanger remember Ang had to go deep into the Fire Nation to talk to Roku in order to gain information to save his friends before their souls were eaten by Co during the time he flew to the Fire Nation and the time June brought him back to the Earth Nation him gain C Slowly by Zuko then getting imprisoned by Admiral Xiao then hanging out with Zuko for a night after all that time passes Ang simply sits down and meditates and places the trinket he took from roku's Temple down on the ground and without any words or any confrontation Bo takes it and the villagers along with Sima narasu are released what the hell what the hell God damn it are you [ __ ] with me I am not [ __ ] with you and with that we end episode six now these two episodes were the shittiest episodes of the entire season there is actually a lot of similarities to the source material but it's clunky told in a half-ass way or recontextualized losing the original context the story didn't progress very much but we did get some character development so let's drill down to see what we got we'll do Zuko last as he got the most Simka and qara Sue we got a little backstory of how Sima was a disappointment in his father's eyes being that this is new information to him it wouldn't explain him as a character in the past but he should be a changed character moving forward we'll see if this did anything your [ __ ] child Tara suit nothing new she saw her mother get killed when she was a little girl there was no truth revealed to her she was [ __ ] there and witnessed it she just relived it now it is new information given to us the audience but the way it was presented in the fog of lost souls how is her witnessing an event revealing the truth she already knew happened you [ __ ] [ __ ] the hell's the matter with you iro nothing we didn't already know aula a prominent chicken neck walk and still petulant Admiral Xiao a smug glory hog nothing we didn't already know June she's fine for the most part but I don't like it that she likes iro rather than vice versa that's a blatant Dei agenda change a although he takes on more responsibility of being the Avatar he's still doing what he's told to do there's no real growth from experience but rather he did it because Roku or gatu told him to do it and finally Zuko maybe the most complex character in the entire show the development for the most part is accurate but the portrayal isn't yes Zug was scarred by his father yes his father father banished him giving him an impossible task as the only way to show his worth and because of this he's relentlessly driven to the point of obsession with the close captures and failed attempts add on to the setbacks of roadblocks that Xiao presented to him Zuko and this is the important part never he never asked to be pied he never cried in anguish in front of others or even once played the victim card in the original Zuko stands alone Resolute and determined to accomplish his goal but in the Netflix version Look at that pitiful [ __ ] expression look at the whiny petulant Tantrums these are looks of defeat not Gritten resolve when we learn about Zuko's backstory not by his self-pity Recollections but by iro recounting it to the crew we understand Zuko's anger we understand his obsession and through all of it the missed opportunities zuku never crawled under his bed and cried about it and that is why zuku is one of the best characters on the show and why we root for him I don't need luck though I don't want it I've always had to struggle and fight and that's made me strong it's made me who I am and that'll do it for this video as always many thanks for
