you're watching the allstate saturday kickoff centennial olympic park in atlanta georgia and right down the road is the home of the georgia state panthers as they play host to the coastal carolina shot to clears today from center park stadium good to have you with us everyone welcome to atlanta mike corey jay walker and one of the most exciting stories in college football this season is coastal carolina 5 and oj 20th in the country let's keep it going for them right they want to keep it going huh you're down south and down south they say this when you say coastal carolina you better put some spec on their name that's how good they are the school that brought you the world's number one golfer in dustin johnson the 2016 college national baseball champions the chanticleers are hot right now and guess what they've got an undefeated football team that's ready to join the party getting a lot of national exposure in their quarterback grayson mccall he's been outstanding just a shirt freshman he missed last week with an injury jay but he is getting the start he's back here today you showed me an undefeated football team and i'm going to show you a team that's got fantastic quarterback play grayson mccall's just a freshman however he's got the experience of having run the same offense in high school he's got all the tools to hurt a defense he can run the football he can throw the football but most importantly he makes great decisions with the football as illustrated by his 11-1 touchdown to interception ratio on the other side for georgia state they're an overtime loss and a seven point loss away from being undefeated themselves and they lead the sun valid scoring at 42 points again and that's why this is a scary matchup coastal carolina has everything going for him except an offense that's better than theirs if the panthers can get that 42 points they may be able to pull off the upset georgia state won the toss they have elected to receive and were already underway here today from atlanta the return up across the 30-yard line in good starting field position here as terence dixon gets it across up to the 33 and we'll get a chance to see them on offense here first and their quarterback is also a redshirt freshman and it's cornelius brown iv out of birmingham alabama what do you like about his play and what you've seen so far from the panthers i like the fact that he's very elusive for a man that's six feet five inches tall 200 pounds on the thin side but he's got an arm that can throw the ball deep down the field but i think it's his ability to make the first would-be tackler miss that really makes this offense go [Music] the running back is destined coach who will start in the backfield number 17 the junior and also roger carter the tight end it's a keeper here for brown on first down and he gets up close to the 40-yard line pretty good run to start the game for the panthers here on offense you saw right there a taste of what quad brown brings to the game six foot five guys aren't supposed to be able to make jump cuts like that to pick up positive yards but he made it look effortless they'll keep it again and this time run out of bounds for maybe a yard in the play enoch mcconzo was there for coastal carolina defense setting up a third and short and for head coach sean elliott when they get in third short yard situation because of his background as an offensive line coach first do not be surprised if they attempt to run for this to set up maybe a fourth down situation in case they end up short third and two from the 41. [Applause] tucker greg and coates in the backfield [Applause] it's greg on the first carry today he has the first and sticks his head down across the 45-yard line love the play call love the play call schematically they set it up they brought audrey payne in who's the secondary tight end lined him up almost behind the center and used him as a pulling guard that was like an old-fashioned sweep right along the sideline well jay that's the guy they want to have it there in that situation greg the downhill runner like a fullback strong and you saw it on that play that's what he can do he can finish it off but they had a whole entourage oh the snap five yard penalty replay thursday the flag here no well late call jay so that's going to get backed up so no first down for georgia state [Music] this becomes an obvious pass situation this is when their best wide receivers number 15 up top sam pinckney brown and the catch is made and it's coats that's a first down up to the 47. what they like about destin colts the ability to be a complete bat comes out of the backfield as a running back gets to the scene quickly picks up enough yards for first down to keep the drive alive punch formation up at the top and they set up the screen it's dixon on the catch and the pile pushes forward and gets him to coastal carolina's 45-yard line it'll be second and two they give you so many different looks as you look at the formation they have right now their left tackle travis glover is flanked as a wide receiver along the top sideline they have their right tackle jonathan bass as well as their guard bartlett lined up and the handoff goes to coats and up the middle he has for the first down to the 36. they said that they would do that they would split out their tackles like you just described in that last play this is why it works because the moment you start to focus on the tackles outside then coach finds a lane and creatures you for a run look how fast georgia state is moving here to start this drive and they're gonna stay in this formation until coastal can stop them from picking up four or five yards of play that was coats again second down right back to coats and now they do bring them down good job up front [Applause] [Music] you sure you can figure it out then they'll bring in the tackles get out of the exotic formations and go back to georgia state football which is that rpo game with cornelius brown on the quarterback and the running back destin coats third down dixon in motion it's coats of mccary though and he is going to be stop shot so just inside the 30-yard line first down markers at the 26. braden matz made the tackle what do you think get the lead got opportunity you're playing here at home it's a conference game if you've got faith in your kicker and they said they feel comfortable with their kicking game from 45 yards to 50 yards so i think you get the lead cannot question this decision by sean elliott noel ruiz and he is one of the best fcs all-american last year when he was at north carolina and t five of seven field goals this season this is going to be a 47-yard attempt as long on the season is 46. [Applause] and to put georgia state on top in their opening drive hooking off the upright no good so an opening drive down the field that moved quickly for georgia state took up four minutes but they here at coastal carolina i obviously can't question the decisions he made thus far has a record-setting season ahead of him [Applause] [Music] first play is a handoff to reese white who goes all the way down the far sideline he gets a first down into georgia state territory the 49-yard line they've got a tremendous set of running backs here at coastal carolina reese white's the guy they like to give the ball to in between the tackles but so much daylight along the outside good job of finding division in the hole outside securing the football for a big gain on first down these teams want to move quick today jay right nobody's wasting any time here both teams will hurry it up particularly georgia state they want to run 80 plays coastal wants to run between 70 and 75. quarterback is grayson mccall who we talked about in the open as he takes it from the gun and a catch is made by isaiah likely and that is a first hand reception for coastal on their second play of the game so mccall red shirt freshman out of indian trail north carolina played and started in four of the five games missed last week had a shoulder injury but was given the go ahead and here he is now today and what he really does he gets the most out of his pre-snap breed but i really credit the offense for putting him in positions where he's not asked to do too much not quite a game manager however somebody that makes good decisions and has a nice lively arm of likely incomplete or highly excuse me jayvon hiley is the intended target yeah you're a college football wide receiver playing for a top 20 team you got to make that catch you're on the road there well thrown ball by mccall and you saw the accuracy of the throw not afraid to take the deep shot stretch the defense early make him respect the passing game and then you can set it up for those running backs which are the most talented group they have on this team to do some damage [Applause] secondhand keeper mccall and gets inside the 30-yard line it's going to be close to the first down a yard shy of it on third and one upcoming he can do that too jay he's done a nice job running the ball this year as well and more importantly it's the decision i mean they're doing a lot of movement trying to get to an advantage defensively he sees all that pulls it away calls his own number picks up positive yardage almost enough for a first down but it's the decision-making that grayson mccall brings to the table that the coaches really like mccall is actually the second leading rusher on this team now he's got shamari jones in the backfield it's a third and one face of the jones keeps it and this is going to be closer but a spotty is gonna be shy still it seems like here about a half a yard shy of the first down fourth down coming up you go for it again uh depending on the comfort level and so what we've got from coaches they don't necessarily have that comfort just yet they will go for it probably in this situation but in that last ball point play right there get the ball shimari jones yeah jones is your 225 power back all he needs is a yard i think that's one situation where mccall should have maybe given it instead of calling his own number but now they've got jones in the backfield again [Applause] fourth down jones has it he has the first and he's gonna have the touchdown wait a minute flag is down at the 25-yard line offense number 57 10-yard penalty replay fourth down it negates a 29-yard touchdown run and willie lampkin gets called for it the left guard just a freshman makes a mistake short-yard situations you don't jeopardize the hold so now instead of what would have been a touchdown or at least a first down carry bring it back take the points off the scoreboard yeah tough call there is jones would have had his third touchdown run of the season now you've got to let's see fourth and seven well they're going to try field goal yep it's going to be a 52-yard attempt well they've got massimo muscardi who the game winner over louisiana a few weeks back and 40 yards out he's got a strong leg timeout is taken time out georgia stay there first his longest of the season is 42 yards but his career long is 53 so this is going to be a 52-yarder trying to put coastal carolina on the board to start this game opening series was taken by the panthers 37 yards down the field and eight plays but they came up empty on their field goal attempt after having moved the ball down is what you want to do and right now both teams feeling each other round 30 seconds to be explosive [Music] [Applause] got a good look at sean elliott the job that he's done at georgia state let's not forget georgia state's one of the newer programs in fbs football as well having a little impact opportunity for them to stay above 500 and keep their hopes alive in the sun belt conference well now they've changed up their mind and it's going to be a call back on to the field and they're going to go for this here on fourth down and seven [Applause] to the tight end likely in the slot or they get yep they got it here it is mccall stepping up going deep has him in and the catch is made for the touchdown of jayvon hailey how about that coastal carolina strikes first and he had his pick of the litter wide receivers that were open likely found a crease but just a simple wheel route between likely and highly on the left side right side of your screen and easily got behind the secondary defender quavion white they saw something schematically that they've seen in film study that gave them the confidence to go forward in that situation because i actually saw two wide receivers on that side they knew if they saw any type of switch or rub go for the home run ball and they were rewarded unbelievable separation he got behind the defender and highly with his fifth touchdown grab of the season give me a wide receiver that can get behind the defensive back give me an accurate quarterback oh i'm gonna put some points on the board shot to clears strike first how about this big ten matchup halloween night tonight at 7 30 ohio state number three with justin fields and sean clifford on the other side quarterback for penn state number 18 in the country high-powered offenses coming your way on abc 7 30 eastern 4 30 pacific you got ohio state with a big win over nebraska last week in the overtime loss for penn state to indiana this is one of the things where college football 2020 is just a little different otherwise i would be getting so excited for the visual effects of the white out right in state college but uh it's not going to happen there but penn state franklin they need that victory after getting upset last week tough second week of the season though right after that loss to come back and have to take on justin fields at ohio state now let's go back to the touchdown for coastal carolina jack basic pass combination you're gonna see likely the tight end he's gonna run to be covered to try and occupy the safety and the crease that leads highly just right here to go straight down the field vertically nothing sophisticated but a good job by likely of running to be covered gets the attention of the dropping linebacker and the safety once the safety turns ball game touchdown yeah you said it i mean he was kind of a decoy all the way right just to get in the middle of the field and draw that defender in yeah you call that running to be covered and they fell for one thing georgia state does they struggle ranked 100th in the country and pass defense 360 yards a game they're gonna have to tighten it up coats on the carry and gets upended after maybe a half a yard and that's the thing georgia state's past defense not so great their run defense so you know we'll get to those numbers later is outstanding stepping up nobody's open and he's gonna run out of bounds and lose yardage nothing he can do there so it's gonna be third down and long for georgia state on their second offensive series of the game good job by the mullet brothers that's the starting inside linebacker core of silas kelly and teddy gallagher for the shot to clears on defense don't let the mullets fool you they can cover a lot of ground in open space i have a third down with four wide receivers 30-13 careful one-on-one match-up bottom of the field with sam pinckney going against derrick bush see if rashan declares brings some pressure and they come pass out is incomplete terence dixon and he had to get rid of it quickly jay i mean that was an outstanding defensive job those three consecutive plays there for coastal carolina and this defense is very underrated their move they tough and they've got great defensive linemen and the key to winning football games in college football landscape it's whoever can control the line of scrimmage with karen jackson jared clark and cj brewer coastal carolina's not getting pushed around by anybody on the defensive line michael hayes to punts he's got to let it bounce at this point and it's going to take a georgia state yeah bounce inside the 25-yard line come to the rest of the 22 [Music] 6-54 to play in the too cincinnati leading the group of five right now in terms of rankings but boston college hold on now that frenchman still got plenty of time to grow right before your eyes [Applause] handoff goes to cj maribel for coastal carolina on their first play of their second offensive series and although we know that georgia's state struggles and pass defense coming into this game i thought the key was going to be the interior line play at coastal carolina georgia state very small defensively on the defensive line they don't have a 300 pounder anywhere along that defensive front and the interior linemen for coaster really good so i look for maribel and white to have good games running the football maribel's a transfer from presbyterian college and he's a has had pro really solid season for this group as this pass goes out and is caught just before the first down marker highly again from the top target this entire season 27th catch leads the team in yards receptions and touchdowns has the previous one here today his fifth of the season yeah he runs good routes and he's solid record-setting wide receiver in the state of florida coming out of high school and give him pre-snap breed you've got a maribel here third down and one absolutely actually i like going to jones a little bit better carmel's gonna split out they give it to jones as you said it but he gets hit initially his extra effort though it's gonna be close he needs the 32 chris moore got the initial head for georgia state and that second effort that's why you like big backs in those situations the contact was behind the line of scrimmage but able to possibly stretch and lean forward to pick up the yards needed right through that last stretch and i think it's gonna be enough for a first down and they give it to him yeah chris moore had him initially but you're right it was that jones that time he has a little extra about 20 extra pounds on maribel and you called it short yardage give me the guy with the beef [Applause] now it's maribel and he has a solid run gets up to the 37-yard line tackled down by dante wilson from georgia state [Music] he brings you that excitement that you'd like to see you mentioned the fact that coaches feel he's a guy that can play in the nfl 510 200 pounder catches the ball the backfield runs nice routes and you see that explosive first step that he possesses doesn't take him long to get from zero to 60 miles per hour second to five oh big left here for jones bursting up the middle for the first to the georgia state 48 yard line oh the interior grass they were going to be able to do some things interior running the football well think about this backfield and he came out shot out like a cannon that time you got maribel you got jones who just ran it rhys white had a first carry of the game was a good one i mean this we've already seen all three today yeah and they can do it by committee it's running back by committee it really comes down to the quarterback grayson mccall who's he going to give the ball to who's he going to pull it from they like to run jones downhill short yard situation reece is in between tackles and maribel's the best of both worlds 15-yard run now mccall gets it out finds tyson mobley and mowgli has a couple yards before he's shoved back just a true freshman but earning some playing time 6 feet 170 pounder from longwood florida fourth game of the season for him just his second catch of the year they are getting so much out of their pre-snap read and that gives mccall the ability to make a quick decision to pick apart this defense jones again [Applause] stacked up at the 41-yard line gonna be third down and three i don't like the way that they're moving the ball sharing the offense with the backs and then getting out to multiple different receivers so far it's not even you know the end of the first quarter yet and good teams make it look easy so whenever the panthers bring in an extra defender into the box to stop the run then they complete the pass and whenever they get too soft and focus on the pads and they run the football and a good offense will make it look effortless and that's what we're seeing right now from the shanta cliff third down mccall and the pass is tipped and complete and off the hands of likely as his intended target is going to be fourth down and four and you know what coastal carolina say right now so we missed on third and four we hit you for a touchdown earlier around the same part of the field but i'm surprised now they're going to let to punt the ball away when on the first drive they didn't yeah that was a gutsy call too on the fourth and it was a fourth and seventh right because they had the penalty yep and they went and they got the touchdown out of it so now charles overton over sin will kick and fuevian white is back to return for georgia state standing in his own 10-yard line on the great kick [Applause] bounce [Applause] the 26 yard line not what they were looking for there by any stretch and about a 15-yard punt and it'll be georgia state ball down by seven now it's time if you're georgia state get your quarterback going we've seen brown call his number a couple times running the football but this is an offensive it's pretty well balanced they rush for 235 yards a game they also pass for 230 yards a game so if coastal is going to be tough to run against and you need to loosen them up and get your passing game going [Applause] a couple yards across the 30-yard line [Music] tackle there by enoch mcconzo [Music] under two minutes to go first quarter georgia state [Applause] second down him pressure he's gonna be sacked [Applause] just like that tyrone jackson no chance for brown to get away and that's now three and a half sacks in the season for him unblocked easiest sack he's gonna get for the season but he was in the right place didn't fall for the fake and what they say about toronto jackson he outworks everyone and anytime you have a coach it tells you he even outworks us that's a special football player making a big play that's the easiest work though he's had this season out third and thirteen and it was tucker greg ripped down by teddy gallagher and another three and out it's another mullet of the mullet brothers every time they make tackles we should start calling them mullets make the tackle mullet well that's right he said gallagher and also silas kelly 29 and there they are together and celebrating after that play and it's fourth down now at eight what a great job by the defense forcing it three and out getting the ball right back to your offense it's two three nines in a row highly for the fair catch and instead it goes inside the 30-yard line and comes to a rest of the 28. of the second quarter from atlanta georgia as the chanticleers lead the panthers seven nothing and talk about how great their past defense was this season while the uh it was bad past events is bad the rush defense has been outstanding uh jay for georgia state but already today they've given up more yards rushing than they have on average over the last three straight games and now they stop up here on first down so this is where they have excel defensively for georgia state you see the last three games keep it in perspective they've been able to make teams one dimensional on the season they've averaged only giving up 97 yards rushing per game that's phenomenal when you do that you make a team one dimensional force them to throw the ball however coastal doing a good job of inflicting their will keeping the offense balanced and they found some creases and were able to hurt this panther defensive rush attack second down after the loss of the yard throws it out highly in the catch and gets a good little stiff arm there at the end gets up close to the midfield line so jayvon hiley has advertised here for coastal carolina they get him going across the formation he comes across a formation but look at the accuracy of the throw which enables hailey to change direction get up field great job by latushko number 20 sealing the edge putting the chondra clear is that much closer for first down yeah him number 20 and 17 sam denmark as well good blocks by the wide receivers on the outside to give him a gain of 10 it'll be third and one from midfield [Applause] white and he's going to be dropped in the backfield as treyjon stevens mcqueen that came in there for georgia state it's a loss of one and it's going to be fourth and two great individual effort by trey john mcqueen the linebacker number six able to get to the hole and make the big stop with some help but what do they do you've got a three-man front bring in some athleticism we had the opportunity to talk to trey john during the weekend what a wonderful young man he is on and off the football field no doubt it is fourth down and two and coastal carolina's gonna go for it they're really slanting their defensive line to stop the run so they're guessing so it's high risk high reward timeout coastal carolina they're first and we'll step aside two minutes and five seconds into the second quarter decision time here fourth and two the shot that clears we'll see what they do when we come back how was georgia state able to stop coastal carolina on third and one short yard of situation great gap control defense control your gap and then you feel it and you'll see the linebacker stevens mcqueen come in here and feel for the big stop this is a great example of playing your lane knowing your assignment controlling your gap it is fourth down and two for coastal carolina can they convert here mccall on the option the keeper the first down run nice job to stretch it out second leading rusher on this team the quarterback the redshirt freshman grayson mccall and once again you see everybody going that way so the shift was going in that direction but mccall was able to find just a slight crease to pick up the enough yardage for the first down and he's just looking for that gap there right there am i going to cut this mask everybody's going that same direction find the crease go forward pick up the first down [Applause] [Music] play fake to white paul now has a man on the outside catches me and he is but it's a first down and more talk about giving up your body the end of the run great pocket presence by mccall but latishko they call him mr third down but finds a soft spot but finish off the run willing to give up his body and almost lands on his feet he's got up ended pretty good there let's go with his eighth catch of the season and jay every one of his catches have been good for a first down that's what i figured you were going with that he knows what his change are you start focusing on highly and then all of a sudden the two scores hurt before a big play that one went for 28. another play fake and to the end zone bearable he's got it touchdown coastal carolina [Applause] we told you he could do it all he's a complete bat can run it can block can run routes make catches cj maribel putting it all on display today i mean he starts out in the backfield but sets it up puts the speed on that's a mismatch for jordan strong trying to cover him in open field like that when he's acting as a receiver nice execution by the tonta cliff [Applause] a 28-yard play and then an 18-yard touchdown to maribel extra point is good that is his fourth receiving touchdown of the season he's had 26 straight games with a reception ninth active in the country and this one goes for six coastal carolina by two touchdowns [Music] a scary good matchup on halloween night as the buckeyes creep into happy valley under a full moon get ready for chills on saturday night football look forward to that one tonight at penn state ohio state how about right here with coastal carolina 5-0 this season 20th in the country off to a two touchdown advantage here jay and everybody's wondered how would they handle the publicity that the program's now getting how they're going to handle being in the limelight people expecting things from them well i'll give credit to coach jamie chadwell they're coming down here on the road taking on a talented georgia state squad and they're playing like they are for the top 20. returnable here for terence dixon picks it up and oh official just got hit oh man a left leg and he just got undercut there and let's hope he's going to be all right [Music] did he call for a fair catch on that jay they were blowing the whistles and it was picked up by dixon then the official got hit and we're gonna step aside we'll come back in a moment 11 38 to go second quarter 14-0 coast of carolina all right so stuart slaughter who's the head linesman he just got hit on his left leg he is off the field now and he's not out there for the officials because i mean we were just watching he was trying to give it a go i mean he got hit really bad let's go back to the kickoff and see what happened here slammed into his left leg now jay it was a fair catch that was called for by terence dixon what happened though on that whole sequence he bobbled it and then once you complete the act of the fair catch which means you have to make possession so then they sealed it but he was outside the five yard line so it goes out to where he actually possessed the football blew it and actually we're going to penalize him because he was going to start running right so rather than the penalty taking you back they put you where you could possess the ball that was coates on the run for georgia state and i swung around to the outside the ball is loose it's a fumble and it's picked up by coastal carolina they say he was down or no there's a flag down as well it is a fumble sam pinckney made the catch and fumbled and a flag comes in as well so a lot going on right here now [Applause] and the officials are also down one with the head linesman is out they don't have a backup and there's a flag down here we'll get the call wayne winkler is a personal foul illegal block below the waist offense number zero that penalty is declined the fumble on the play recovered by the defense first down how about that sam pinckney on the catch got hit fumbled coastal carolina has it and they lead it 14 nothing here it is again they're trying to get piedme involved he's their go-to wide receiver it just goes down awkwardly and a great job of pulling the football down i believe that was mcconzo he knocked my condo number 43 as he's going to the ground with the strip to start to loosen up the football then max was there to pick it up as well so good job by the defense first turnover of the game and they're going to take a look at it here it was hard to see from that angle if the ball had come loose and i think it was mcconzo who started to move the balls see if his elbows down first before the ball comes out i don't think so i don't think so and again the ruling on the field was it was a fumble recovered by coastal carolina after review the ruling on the field stands first down there you go [Applause] all right jay so the sean declares in business here once again they're at the 26 yard line of georgia state with a 14-nothing advantage and there was [Music] the guy who recovered the fumble brandon matz for coastal carolina the defense gives you the turnover stay aggressive with your play calling and be surprised to see chance to clear throw the football here take a couple strikes see if they get their tight end isaiah likely in a one-on-one situation shamari jones in the backfield and it's a handoff here to mobley it'll call that a pass and tyson mobley and that's one that you love for a quarterback as it goes down as a reception and mobley has a first down after that play and they're different ways to being aggressive and that was an aggressive play call there because if they tackle you behind the line of scrimmage it's a loss a pretty big loss but they were willing to say this will be our explosive play get the ball to mobley on the perimeter pick up the first down this coastal carolina offense looking very efficient so far in the football game yes they are as a first down to the 13-yard line [Applause] another fake back to the option reese white white touchdown shots of clears heads up they ran the freeze option on the previous series georgia state didn't show they could stop it they wait a little bit longer and gave him another look of the option and this is a great job of holding the ball to the last minute by mccall and look at the speed by white to get to the outside and then allow the big bodies to take over and block his teammate downfield field waiting for somebody to block for coastal carolina so not too great there in the last two sequences for biscardi but we'll take it how about there's against the flag the ball will be played earlier today coastal carolina's coach jamie chadwell is on with marnie and mcgee and he says yeah if they win the title he's going to go out he's going to grow a mullet i'm wondering how long it's going to take him to do such a thing to catch up to the rest of the mullet boys and that's teddy gallagher's mother right there you see but come on ryan mcgee you're my guy is it breaking news that the coach is going to grow him up yeah but when you're hot everybody wants a piece of the action you got to get their attention right jay yeah jordan state certainly have the attention right now as they are down by 20 points and they've got to make something happen coats that's not gonna be much that's gonna be nothing no gain on that play second and ten so not only is it the chanticleer's offense that's been striking it's their defense they'll be well short that first series they were moving really fast and it was efficient but since then they've stalled 67 total yards third down and the carry not going to be enough for the first and that's greg and he's going to be just shy do you go for this here i mean you're i mean it's one yard it's fourth in the air but driving your own 44 yard line 20 nothing you trail at the very least you try and draw them offsides obviously there's an eager defensive front for coastal carolina but it's very tough to run but number 15. you got a good look at number 15 right there that's a 350 pound defensive tackle gregory gets the call oh bad he has it just barely initially yeah you say that no but then he got the first down yeah you shouldn't run at jared clark i mean he is a wide body there 15 right there you're not moving him he takes on the double team finds the back and cj brewer starts trying to turn the legs and they were fortunate to pick up that yard first down brown gets hit as he throws it is intercepted it is picked off by shaheen watkins we're making silas kelly kelly on the interception mullet silas kelly with his first pick of the season diving for that one to get it back for the shot declares it was the pressure by taryn jackson whose name we've called several times with the hit forces the inaccurate throw and silas kelly one of the mullet brothers comes up with the interception great hands [Applause] kelly was a guy that tore his acl last year the coaches said he drove himself to the game so he could still be there as the co-captain you know for that group a senior now linebacker second on the team and tackles huge interception and that's the second straight turnover for georgia state mccall with a big shot down the sideline and it's incomplete almost hauled in by i hailey if you're if you're a fan of college football this is a fun team to watch yeah i mean not afraid to take chances they'll give you some freeze option action now they're gonna pass off of it and the quarterback's gonna take a look but hailey almost comes down with this i mean look at the athleticism goes up and trying to catch it at his highest point almost came down with the big play going against antivia saline that time the redshirt freshman safety second down swings it out to maribel sideline maribel hit hard out of bounds but it's gonna be a first down great job for blocking on the edge by greg latushko sealed the edge and that's the faith that maribel had he knew that his receiver was going to block and seal the edge so when he caught it he didn't have to dance his job was to get to the outside he got to the outside and picked up the first down [Music] first and 10 coastal carolina from the 41-yard line of georgia state already leading 20 to nothing we still have eight minutes to play in this first half [Applause] jones good hard runner he called it earlier jay shimari jones went to independence community college in kansas transferred here to the chanticleers bigger back great feat fourth leading rushers they've rotated that backfield nicely today and all season long keeping fresh legs in the backfield and this is an offense that keeps utilizes two running backs most of their sets with the versatility of maribel able to keep their normal personnel out there now they're going to flank out lightly pay attention don't give him a one-on-one match-up mccall looking in that direction now he goes back to the left side and has a man open and that is sam denmark for the catch and a first down to the 10 yard line same concept they utilized earlier the slot receiver runs to occupy the safety they keep the cornerbacks on an island and look at mccall hold the safety one direction to the right come back find the soft spot the defense watch it once it gets right behind the cornerback find the soft spot settle nice execution by this offense 27-yard reception to denmark who had a 72-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter of their game last week in the win over georgia 7. mccall to the end zone caught touchdown jayvon hailey his second today easy and give credit to them they make it look easy i mean they know that this defensive secretary was going to struggle this is just giving a free release to a slot receiver with no inside help he runs a slant wrap you're supposed to complete that throw 10 out of 10 times i mean this is a clinic right now by coastal carolina the chance to make it 27-0 last extra point off the upright this one's right down the middle 6 32 to go in this first half this is how you draw it up inside release no help from the middle my number one receiver let's increase our lead 27-0 i'll say this the uh chanticleers trying to make a push to be the only undefeated team in this group potentially by the end of the day clemson trailing 21 to 10 right now at home to boston college coastal carolina leads georgia state here 27 nothing gamecocks are off this week and boy it is one of the biggest stories in college football with the way they have played here jay and you know they're they're leaving no doubt at least early on with 6 32 to go in this first half 27-zip what's happening here they're handling the hype they're playing their game they're staying focused give credit to jamie caldwell their coach this is the team that had a certain chip on their shoulder and they're going to continue the story of coastal carolina football 2020 is gonna continue to get hot fair cats just called for and they gotta tell dixon you know he can't you can't run after that jay what that's a penalty i mean terence dixon that's how the official got hurt on the last sequence there here's what we've got going on around our espn networks today and there's the clemson game down 21-10 still a lot of time of course early second big one tonight on abc ohio state penn state and uh georgia with an early advantage over kentucky not by much though and that's almost at the halftime what's happening he's calling the fair catch and he's not completing it so he's not catching it cleanly so they're getting the ball on the seven yard line not where they would normally get the ball on the 25 yards the mishaps there and that's huge as now coach is banked up i mean that's costing them huge field positions yet yes it is twice in a row now two times in a row that side of the stadium the sun you struggle with the sun so coastal carolina when they had the ball they would just let it bounce not going far so it's going to be third down and georgia state and another tough spot here third down at their own 14-yard line third and four and this is that in between it's been tough for them to run the football like they want to i mean the speed of coastal carolina defensively he's been able to negate the run pass action game for the zone reigns i think that brown's gonna have to take over this game with his right arm throughout the football looking nobody's open brown still looking throws it away as he was facing pressure that's all he could do five of eight passing now for just 34 yards and it's another three and out for georgia state their first drive of the game they moved at 37 yards missed the field goal but then since then they've had three three and outs and two turnovers in which coastal carolina has capitalized so that's the last five drives and they're gonna give it right back to the shot to clear what a dominating performance by this defense wide receivers aren't open can't blame a quarterback for throwing it to people that are covered and the game plan has been executed to perfection [Applause] michael hayes on the kick and highly on uh one bounce picks it up at his own 47. and he's tripped up at the georgia state 48-yard line here's a look at our qb comparisons here in this matchup we talked about grayson mccall coming back from the injury red shirt freshman it's been outstanding look at that 10 of 13 161 and three touchdowns and brown who had the interception and he's also been sacked twice yeah in georgia state they average you know 465 yards per game in total offensive that's just not the case today they're going to need him to get it going if they're going to try and get back into it they're gonna have to throw the football and what can i say about mccall the efficiency has been there not forcing the ball managing the offense and making good decisions in the running and passing game but how about this offensive line the job that they have done this season and already here today how about trey carter senior out of monroeville alabama the leader a red shirt back in 2016. he started every game since jane this is his 42nd straight start he hasn't missed a game and when you get that kind of experience and a job from this guy you can make some big plays i mean they get after and that's what they describe their defensive their offensive line we get after people sprint out by mccall and on the pass it's caught and he's got sam denmark again and let's see what the spot is first down 37 yard line it's an 11 yard pickup and denmark has been key how about this for an offensive line they don't have one 300 pound on the offensive line right and they've got a center you're looking at sam thompson he is five nine two ninety five nine two ninety five nine two nine maybe not even five nine right gotta circle that that is that's unbelievable [Applause] first down after the catch well and that's jones on the carry sam thompson back to him 51 who you talked about i mean you know he's a guy he's a former walk-on you know earned a scholarship for this coastal carolina group and says he wants to open up a restaurant in the area after after ball as his family has the i mean if he's five nine two nine he can eat that yeah that's right so he knows something about getting the grub on but i mean remarkable guy getting it done off the field as well graduating may on the top college football offensive lineman in the country [Applause] carry by jones again just gets inside the 35-yard line [Music] the fact that every coach you talk to about them the first word they used to describe thompson was he's smart super smart after the play was over personal foul unnecessary roughness defense number 42 15-yard penalty automatic first down frustration sending in blake carroll at the end of the play here oh boy uh he's lucky he's not going i was just going to say that's probably cause for an ejection projection right there that's a punch there there was a melee going on but you can't do that you got to play between the whistles he's very lucky he's still on the scan and that's surprising because they said that carol wanted a guy that showed maturity for this linebacker one of the mature guys there but when you're down 27 nothing things just happen lost is cool there a little bit good job by the coaches pulling them off the field making them sit for a little bit [Applause] first and tap a call right back almost a one-handed catch but it was a good job there at the end by quavian white to break it up for georgia state yeah they tried to sneak maribel out of the backfield again you know a little misdirection option here make you think they're going right but maribel's so quick able to get there but a great job by white knowing his keys able to dislodge the football with a clean hit had he not been in there i i think maribel might have pulled that down right i mean that was a one-handed uh grab waiting to happen there for him and he's made some special plays this season under three to go first half second down swings it out maribel has this catch back pedaling but it's gonna be really for no gain and it'll be third down [Applause] [Music] you gotta come up with a stop here for the georgia state defense right something at least to force into a field goal drive you would love to get a sack to make the field goal attempt a little bit tougher however they've been so susceptible this is where you really need your defensive line to get some pressure on the quarterback that can help out a secondary that's struggling with coverage let's see when if i'm coastal carolina i come out and i see the high safety look no real threat of a blitz [Applause] and here it is the pass is caught denmark and he is close to the end zone a yard shy first down first and goal sam denmark yet again that pre-snap look nothing told me that they were going to bring pressure on the quarterback he was able to sit there comfortable and you got a quarterback here say oh everybody's playing soft turning your back to me i'm going to stand in the pocket extra tall take my time find my read this is down in the middle 52 is now wearing all right keep an eye on this cj brewer now has checked in zero he's wearing zero he's normally 52 the defensive tackle he's got a touchdown catch this season from two yards out do they go to him again nope it's maribel and he is gonna be dropped for a loss good job dante wilson who makes the tackle for georgia state that time how much fun will this be when you're undefeated you're a defensive tackle and they give you another jersey to wear in the middle of the game zero so you can play some fullback and you're a threat to get the football i mean they're pulling out all the tricks down there in conway south carolina well you got to be ready for it for the defense because it's already happened they've seen it on film but if not a huge blocking threat for them in the backfield with maribel second and goal no they will throw two up and it's broken up so good job that was octavious slay that swatted it away they tried to give to him again i mean if lane doesn't jump the route this is a touchdown watch his lane he sees it recognized he uses the speed he sells out to go get the deflection you're not gonna embarrass us with the nose tackle defensive end catching the touchdown on us today good recognition by lane he's kind of smiling like wow they really tried that yeah brewer goes out and isaiah likely the tight end is back in number four it's now third and goal from the two run the ball with maribel on the perimeter [Applause] mccall it's a keeper spins his way to the goal line he's in touchdown coastal carolina grayson mccall runs it in from two yards out it's his fourth rushing touchdown of the season it was good defense by georgia state they made a stand the initial hole was not there but great recognition by mccall turning sideways before stevens mcqueen could recognize he changed directions and able to just get into the end zone to increase the lead and coastal carolina [Applause] 34 to nothing coastal carolina let's take a look at today's protection spotlight brought to you by allstate well every quarterback looks good when they're not getting hit in the case of mccall they're keeping the pocket clean for him the freshman quarterback not feeling under duress nice clean pocket for the throws he's stepping up able to go to his primary secondary and third reads doing a good job protecting their quarterback they're all starting for protection in the passing game and the chance of clears are protecting their pocket making it look easy for him 10 plays 48 yards in the touchdown but he has been outstanding 13 of 18. 191 yards four total touchdowns three through the air and the one you just saw there on the ground from two yards out and this team is for real i mean they're playing no slouch here by the way okay georgia state was an overtime loss and a seven point loss away from being undefeated themselves okay they're two and two they played some good competition they've got good offense a solid defense not in the pass game we've seen but it's just not happening for them here today and this is very surprising 34-0 i mean for them to jump out like this this is an exciting team and the defense and the offense are clicking on all cylinders and you wonder how good could this team be now white is going to run it out this time here for georgia state finally some better starting field position as he gets up to the 30-yard line but they trail it 34-0 but we've got just 43 seconds to go and there's a little bit of pushing and shoving going on at the end of this and if you're you know coastal carolina just get away right i mean you don't need any look at the scoreboard couldn't have asked for a better first half ohio state penn state coming away tonight saturday night football presented by capital one it's 7 30 eastern on abc look forward to watching that later on with justin fields and company for ohio state trying to go to 2-0 early part of the season for the big ten of course 43 seconds left gotta be careful here too for georgia state and brown's gonna be sacked it's been that kind of a first half that was the number that was number zero yeah slash number 52 cj brewer so he didn't get his touchdown on the offensive side of the ball took off the jersey went to his ceo of a company or a youth league football coach and he's having some fun as he should as coastal carolina leads it 34 to nothing at the half what a job they've forced two turnovers they've us again everyone mike corey jay walker uh not what we expected here in terms of uh this one-sided affair to say the least 34-0 coastal carolina what has happened so far here in the first half coastal carolina's feeling themselves they're trying to prove to america that they are a top 20 football team and they're basically saying georgia state you're not as good as us and they've influenced their will in this football game in the first half dominating impressive performance by the chanticleers on all fronts yeah here are the highlights uh offense defense special teams they've done it all and uh let's start off with what we saw here early from grayson mccall yes we knew grayson mccall coming in this football game having the ability to start would give his team a boost great decisions throwing the football he stayed clean the whole time but the defense the physical nature of this shot to clear defense surprised georgia state this is a defense that's not only fast but they're big and they're hungry and then mccall caps it off to give him the 34 point lead in the first half dominance on all levels for the shot to clear and the stats bear that out as well as you see it here the 13 points off turnovers they missed the extra point but they have capitalized and georgia state hasn't helped themselves especially with starting field position i mean they've muffed two kickoff returns where they've called for fair catches so they weren't able to get the benefit of the extra yards they had to get it at the spot they've just been stalled all game here it seems like the number that you need to see there mike an offense that averages 460 yards a game has less than 100 in the first half whatever they were doing throw that game plan out the window and come up with something new to give yourself a fighting chance to make this competitive and if they needed another edge they got the ball to start the second half here coastal carolina and the ball's going to go out of bounds on the kickoff free kick out of bounds kicking team the ball will be placed at the 35-yard line first half so they'll start from the 35 and you see this most yards and points scored in the first half this season for the chanticleers a team that's 5-0 20th ranked in the country and playing with a ton of confidence backed by this redshirt freshman quarterback grayson mccall he missed last week with a shoulder injury you know give fred payton a ton of credit to his backup the junior you know who is beat out in camp but i mean he's a guy that's thrown for over 2 300 passing yards you know for this team jay and you know he got it done last week when they beat georgia southern yeah very good competitive georgia 7 squad that's kind of given them trouble over the years but well-balanced teams have depth and we're starting to see coastal carolina build depth [Applause] pass goes out to greg latushko and he is wrapped up right around the 40-yard line game about five there goes the streak the two score every time he kind of passed that's right it was for first downs right yeah what's the deal that's his ninth catch of the season it only goes for five yards the previous eight have gone for ten or more and it's always been a first and you lose it on a bubble screen come on coach give me something downfield move me past the chains [Music] and he had no catches in his entire career before this season he's a senior senior wide receiver number 20. now over the middle of the catch is made this guy's been phenomenal today jayvon highly first down into georgia state territory at the 43. he's been winning that matchup and they really have been put number 20 quavion white for georgia state on an island man-to-man coverage no help on the inside they are killing them with those slant routes they hit one for a touchdown and now they're coming out in the second half saying if you're not going to have your safety high face uh block off the free release for highly and we're going to take advantage of it cj maribel now on the carry and he's ripped down by blake carroll after he gets inside the 40-yard line gain of four the thing is if you're the georgia state defense jay what are you key on like what are you trying to take away at this point considering all that you've seen from the coastal offense unfortunately for them you try to make them one dimensional and they've tried but coastal's been able to keep their balance because they've been throwing the ball very well so i think you have to take a chance and crowd the line of scrimmage which the quarterback tracy mccall make him make some throws under duress but don't allow the pocket to remain pretty second hand jones now on the carry shamari jones and he'll set up a third and three well mccall has found six different receivers so far in this game so that's been a tough thing as well because everyone has made plays and it's hard to key on anybody hailey might be the guy number six but they haven't been able to stop him yet third and three [Music] this is where you got to come up with a with a tackle for loss a negative yardage play there to make this offense one dimensional but right now they've got the big back in the backfield they've got the scout back and marvel out there jones powers his way for the first down he has a burst of speed we've seen that multiple times today and particularly for him to be 6-1 this is a 220 pound running back but look at the acceleration in the vision one cut running accelerates quickly for a man that size i mean you got to know where you're going right when you're going to burst out like that and he had a nice little opening right there to just cut right through yeah that's coaching and execution he knew where the hole was supposed to be and didn't waste any time and so often you hate when you see a big bat trying to dance get your momentum going downhill put the pressure on the defense to minimize your gains [Laughter] first and ten and jones again on the carry and we talked about this offensive line earlier with the center sam thompson and the right guard trey carter how about the left guard 57 willie lampkin who was a true freshman out of lakeland florida high school all-state wrestler in the heavyweight division a three-star recruit by espn coming out of high school and he's one of the guys they said when we recruit him because he's a player doesn't have the the numbers the y he's 6-1 295 pounds but every time you watched him play he was winning his matchups and you see the base right there and develop a little bit of that bubble that you like to see and he's been very effective as a true freshman second-hand gift from maribel and more of the same another big run for coastal carolina first down to the 15-yard line maribel spinning his way for extra yardage guys up front just want to get more the interior line play look at number 51 sam thompson clear his man out marable with the second effort and the balance controlling the line of scrimmage anytime you can do that you've got a great chance at success reese white is in the backfield now he gets the call on first down white goes up the middle and almost gets a touchdown tackle down finally at the two yard line i mean the misdirection to hold you then they crease you inside a body on the body nobody gets a clean look at blowing up the plays play selection's been there and this team is clicking on all cylinders offensively finally victor hayward that made the tackle but not after a 12-yard gain and it's now first and goal from the three white in the backfield maribel in motion it's white on the carry reese white he is going to be stopped shy he gets two yards of the one-yard line [Music] white's a guy who has two rushing touchdowns on the season i'm trying to get him involved in the mix now sophomore sandy springs georgia you just have the feeling if they wanted to they could just go big on big bringing chamari jones a big back and pound it but [Music] every now and then they like to have some football distribution and trying to give white an opportunity to add another touchdown to his resume second down and goal it's maribel mccarry and he walks in for the touchdown [Applause] that's good football i'm just going to tell you know look at the scoreboard aside or whatever the run that's almost irrelevant you knew they were going to score they come out the locker room they get the football they're up 34 nothing they don't let their foot off the gas they increase their lead jay watching that replay right there looks like a diagram when you're in practice saying like you're going to block this guy you're going to block this guy and it's going to be this huge hole where you're just going to walk in and score i mean what's happening very well disciplined when you're not a large offensive line you have to know your assignments and they execute that to perfection coastal carolina picking up where they left off at the end of the first half opening drive for the td 41-0 [Music] 41 nothing here today coastal carolina at georgia state and it's early third quarter the chanticleers scored on their opening possession of this second half and he's going to celebrate today and a beautiful day here in atlanta georgia how about for the shot to clear so they're going to win here today jay they'll be 6-0 for the first time since 2015 that was before they got to the fbs level only their fourth time in history to be 6-0 and they would be bowl eligible right i mean think about that you know for the kind of year that we're having here for to be at this level right now and the way they're playing that says a lot about the maturity and the dedication of this team right it's a story of a program that's on the rise they had a mission they had vision they've been able to execute it these historic seasons continues to roll there was a penalty at the end of the play a 15-yard penalty after the touchdown so they really they couldn't win they could maybe advance out of a regional but they can't win a super regional you know oh they make them well they can't win in omaha well they became the college
