Black Bear Pass Colorado - Trapped by Hail, Flash Floods, and Landslides

check that out black bear pass that's what we decided to do today and guess who we found it's our buddy colt and shanna say hello this is their jk willy's edition so we are both open in front and limited slip in the rear correct we are what size tires you get uh stock stock he doesn't even know 255's what the heck is that like a 31 or something 32 i think 32. so tell us about black bear pass or what you know about it from the last time you did it i haven't done it in about seven or eight years yeah really it's it's a just a really scenic trail when you get to the over the summit is when you're going to get to a one way that one way is when you'll overlook overlooked tell your ride that's when people that have vertigo have issues nothing like rattle rock nothing like rattle all right let's do it [Music] look at this tell them what you're doing eating we're doing black bear pass and she's over here eating chocolate strawberries don't give me a hard time because i know how to live he's jealous he can't help it i didn't see him complaining about the eggs and making them this morning do you have your seatbelt on i do put your seatbelt on with a piece of my hand bloodshot eyes i those are those nutrients is he going to whistle it is he going to bite us oh he is right there he's like wedged in there he's trying to get out he went the wrong direction come on out of there you little scepter we're not going to hurt you [Music] shannon's going to tickle his feet he's turning around don't tickle his front feet even though it's not hard it's the most technical one that we've been on so far think so hearing a lot of scrapes from the tires that means we're flexing this is our first rock garden it's like got little six inch ledges oh my goodness it's cheap oh more to mercy that's good though yeah gotta give it that except for all the electronic nonsense i tried to use the hill descent the other day and like first it won't work and it does work and then it says it's not available and then it i don't know i think you just don't know how to use it yet i don't it's too complicated there's too many strange features that you gotta read a book to figure out it should just be simple gas pedal brake pedal and and your gear shift you know you are so old you're showing your age if i if i put austin in here and said austin figure this out he could no way there's a button right here that is a hill descent and then you take your feet off the brake and off the gas and then you have to put it in manual and then you have to adjust your speed with the gear shift knob it's just insane but it does climb pretty good it does climb pretty good all right so we're headed down we got options here and i'm not sure which one's the best one it's starting to get a little sketchier but we're heading down towards uh point of no return hope was not going to tell me but i checked the date that today is our anniversary our uh well we've been married for 15 years and we've been together for 20 years and so we might have to go to mcdonald's later tonight and celebrate oh yeah [Laughter] [Music] here we go do you need to put that down dude would you do anything cool like this this is so awesome as long as you live it'll be cool so the biggest mistake people make is they're too scared of the edge and they get up higher and higher and higher and that's where people they'll get their tire jammed and then start driving weird yeah or they've had people come off up top higher and it's because they what they'll do is they're getting their lollygagging they're looking at the water they're looking at the mountains not paying attention to the road yeah i'm a little sketched out myself right here yeah ah this is what it looks like from the outside holy cow how sketchy is that i don't know what's in front of the jeep but it looks like it just falls off and just disappears that keeps going holy cow i'm nervous just sitting in the car up there hope is not going to get out for sure there's a mountain pool you know this right what's that we got a dump car that water pool when you do this trail oh yeah i've never heard that one i think you're making it up i'm serious okay you first it's very very loud what's it gonna do i can see your butt cracked you gotta you gotta cover up the crack that's gonna be a lot worse for me with my hair because it's gonna stay wet no oh now you're committed all right there's no turning around anyway no no no oh wow look at that oh we got people coming down i'm freaking whoa oh wow look at that okay what do you think of this sketch bed it's an obstacle on the side of a thousand foot cliff with a waterfall right next to it's kind of a weird feeling and there's a chipmunk in the trail don't swerve all right i think that was the worst of it right there yeah that just feels like coming around that corner it feels like there's nothing there you're just driving off the side of a mountain it reminds me of that that vegas ride remember where we got swapped off the end of the building and it went around and around but worse because you have no safety whatsoever other than hopefully you're a good driver the top of the stratosphere that ride is nuts it tilts you forward and then you're just hanging down by a seat belt [Laughter] i actually like that one i hated that you don't even like heights huh hanging on by a seat though yes but you're holding on by a seat belt [Laughter] and we're not talking like little bell we're talking like the full metal gear metal metal metal metal and then a seat belt what about the nuts and bolts and all that stuff that holds that all together i'd be shocked if they didn't keep up with that i've never heard of them having a problem with that that ride ever have you we ride that raft ride at six flags and it's flipped over and kill people we just rode one the other day when we went to dollywood check out this waterfall it is beautiful oh hey yeah she got out of the jeep now [Music] oh stop yelling at me i'm feeling bad for you because i'm on the side no you're on the drop-off side yeah go ahead and show them what's out there i think i'd rather be on the drop-off side now than on the drop-off side um when you were doing that turn look at this in front of us right here holy cow oh lord of mercy not only that but it's starting to rain pretty good i don't know what you would do if you had an issue up here let's say you broke something your engine wasn't running there's no way i'd want somebody to pull me down this nope or if you broke a tie rod or you're steering oh man i don't even know what you would do and then there's no bypass you can't let somebody around you surely hopefully people know how sketchy this can be and don't bring their i know you love cherokees but unless you're going to bring a new one down here that's not going to do very good [Laughter] oh look at this switchback coming up we got hail oh now it's hailing that's nice yeah i guess if you're having to fix hail damage then i guess i'll let you fix the windshield too i'm more worried about the slickness before it gets too bad oh crap man i don't like this you gotta get your face you know i have a lot of trust in you because i would never do this with anyone else ah [Applause] this is not cool [Music] [Music] man i'm getting ice baby that's not funny three point turns is it's just piling up right here look at this i'm getting wet yes that's a wetness yeah i got ice down my shirt yep there's the top of bridal dale falls right there if you can see it through on the hail no there's a vehicle up here there's a bunch of scared people hanging under the museum oh my goodness are you sketched out i'd rather get down quicker rather than later it's true i agree they just abandoned their car right here looks like some people are walking down surely not you think they abandoned their car or they're just hiking and got caught in them wish we had a back seat baby why are they doing that oh my gosh rocks are falling that rock just fell down oh matt the rocks are going down go go go go go [Music] oh oh my gosh it's just people everywhere i feel like i'm in a horror movie yes i i saw it on the back back up camera i wonder if i caught it on video there's just too many of them who's asking them i wish we had kept our camping spot so we had all this empty room people are everywhere sorry it's on i got it around for a second i'm getting wet hmm no baby i can't see anything oh my god yeah this is like a flash of blood like nightmares [Music] now hey ben happy anniversary they need to go back down are they crazy maybe that is so sick oh right okay can we go for that this is no joke oh there's another place [Applause] they need to go back down i feel like this is the safest place right behind this rock until the flash flooding starts coming out right underneath us we need to get out up here i feel like there's a semi-safe spot right here behind this rock for landslides bunch of trees but i don't know what's beyond that you know well we got food and supplies and [Applause] how many people are stuck back here that it shouldn't be too long before they come and clear it are you guys in a safe spot up there i need to start thinking what we're gonna do if it washes out [Music] we'll just wait to be rescued again i feel safer here at least for right now there's no water rolling down the side of this mountain right here and there's lots of trees and stuff so you know there's no landslides in the past right here [Music] sing it honey sing it i'm just a poor boy i have no sympathy how do you like your anniversary so far so much fun oh man i think now these guys are in better shape because they can go around the landslides and stuff well hopefully i don't know if they can or not i haven't seen it well here's the road holy cow that is some sketchy business right there what it looks like it's out up again up there it is it's doubled up wouldn't be a problem for the scorpion or something but the jail and then we've got all these stock jeeps behind us that's starting to they're starting to pile up back there and it's just soft and squishy people walking can seem to get over it but it's out again up there i don't know what's going on up there either look at the mountainsides up there they're just they're just pouring water oh man i'm cold i'm starting to shake so right now we're eating lunch waiting on the road crew to come and clear this uh impasse we have going on here looks like a lot of the hikers made it down they're able to walk over but uh we cannot hope everybody made it out okay up there that i think the rocks flying by us was the sketchiest part huge basketball size boulders just going i don't know that um that makeshift waterfall had some serious logs and things starting to come down oh yeah yeah waterfall where there wasn't supposed to be a waterfall and then the road just washing out as we're trying to drive through pretty sketch but the rain is subsiding hopefully the water will subside and we can get out of here colt's over here trying to push it down i see the road crew though there is a road crew on the other side of that bush it doesn't give you any scale [Music] around there's no heavy equipment up here [Music] [Music] is thank you appreciate it yeah what'd you think babe it's like pretty good yeah i think so too good job that didn't take him very long would it take him a half hour maybe yeah he just pushed everything off the side of the hill there luckily not too much came from uphill all right we made it now we can go heat the sheriffs are here maybe they're going to go do a rescue mission the one thing we did get is reported right before the storm maybe half hour 45 minutes or even an hour like one single guy tried to go across via corrado did you guys are you familiar with what that is that's a trail that goes across across the cliffside and you've got to clip in and then shimmy across have you got did you guys see any anybody single hiker or anything trying to get a head count of everything but we're really we're looking for one single gotta try to go across the baseball right before the storm i hope he made it so this is what it looks like from the bottom there's a guy missing up there apparently he was rock climbing up there somewhere where all that water was coming down earlier [Music] hopefully he's all right i guess time will tell but that's beautiful up there there's veil falls this is uh the waterfall that we drove right next to coming down black bear pass and right there is that it was raging at one point when we were coming through there if you guys saw that but it's calmed down now but man all that whole wall right there was just raging whenever it was hailing oh yeah yeah welcome to the town of telluride well that was a harrowing experience to say the least don't you think to say the least a anniversary that we won't forget probably probably not luckily we made it safe and sound and down here in town it's like nothing happened everybody's just going about their merry way here look at this pretty neat little place they're having some sort of something they got all the streets blocked off we're gonna go eat and i guess we're gonna wrap it up and call it a day sounds like a plan moab here we come that's right you
