[Music] hey guys eric here from at home in the future we check out the latest gear and gadgets for modern families if you dig this video don't forget to press that like button and please subscribe if you want to see more videos like this and speaking of subscribing we're doing a huge giveaway to celebrate our growing channel so make sure you stick around to the very end of the video to see how you can be a part of that so today's video is all about one of my secret obsessions and that is packing my truck full of adventure and survival gear this is something i've been doing for the last year and a half something i'm passionate about and i've researched for hours and hours online and i've done it for two reasons one i want to be prepared for any sort of adventure our family is going to have so whether it's an impromptu hike or going to the park or at a friend's house and you just want some cool stuff to goof off with i want to always have that stuff handy and easily accessible in my truck and obviously i want number two i want to be prepared for anything i have a family to protect and i want to make sure that i always have what i need to make sure they're taken care of and that any sort of life's emergencies that pop up i want to be prepared for those things so that's one reason it's always important to have your truck ready to go now as i've added stuff to my truck over time i've kind of put things together following three essential rules the first is i want to use only good stuff now you will find some you know harbor freight specials in there and a few things that don't have to be top quality items but for the stuff that matters the stuff that you're going to use often i want to make sure that i'm going with good brands and products that do what they say that they're going to do rule number two is that i want all this stuff to actually be easy to get to it's one thing to have it with you it's another thing to be able to get to it when you want to use it or have it in a place where it's not inconvenient to take out every time you want to access it so i have everything conveniently located in really good spots throughout the truck finally rule number three and this one's important to me is i want this stuff to be completely out of sight and out of the way nothing's worse than having a bunch of gear having a bunch of survival stuff and having to lug it around or always getting in the way or just looking weird or creepy for people that are riding in your car so i've packed this stuff in a way that if you looked at my car you'd never know that really anything was in it and you can still use all the normal cubbies and pockets that you want to use in everyday life but everything in the truck is easy to get to if you need it like i said i've spent hours and probably years really researching this stuff and acquiring it over time so i want to make it easy for you guys to make the decisions for what to put in your cars i'm going to provide a full list on our website in the description of this video of many of these items i'll try to find the cheapest prices online for you and some of these links may be affiliate links so if you purchase from those they'll help out our channel big time but it'll make it easy for you to go through and get the stuff you need for your car and yes by the way that is a peacock walking through my yard i'm in tennessee i don't know why it's there what are you doing here buddy all right we've talked through why i put what i did in there so let's open up the truck and take a look at what's inside let's kick things off by checking out what's in the front seat of my car this is a 2016 f-150 by the way just a really standard truck xlt model really nothing all that special um like i said i tried to keep everything really clean and tucked away so just looking at this you wouldn't think that there's so much stuff in here which is to be honest part of the fun so um i'd keep this area open i normally have a pen here maybe some hand sanitizer or a face mask given the season we're in i've left this console pocket area pretty open and clean too that way you can just use it for everyday life stuff i keep normal items like um sunglasses where they're supposed to go um i just have normal things like you'd expect to see in any truck uh umbrellas and that sort of thing by the way these floor mats are awesome the husky mats i think they're better than weathertechs we'll put a link up for those as well so let's start things off by checking out what's inside the console here so right away i've got sharpies and pins and just different everyday stuff you would need this is where i normally keep my disposable face mask if i'm going out so right off the bat easy to access tools here we have a hero clip which is a really cool carabiner you can use to hang up lots of different things we have two leathermans easy to get to one is for emergencies this is the leatherman raptor it's a pair of awesome foldable scissors it has seat belt cutters on them it has a little carbide tip to pop out a car window really great tool that you want to have handy and i also keep a leatherman charge the titanium edition with some great pliers saws knives screwdrivers all sorts of little quick access tools you find pretty handy so keep a sharpie here too this is my mel key turtle power i keep a field notes a little notebook these are great to jot down in i keep some emergency cash here normally just uh 20 bucks or so you never know when you might need to tip a valet or pay for fast food if you forgot your wallet i also have a right in the rain notebook down there as well so and then gift cards and change all the normal stuff you keep in nothing too exciting there down here is where this big black hole of a cubby hole gets interesting and the f-150s you have this giant compartment so we've packed it full of all sorts of stuff i normally have just a knock around baseball cap to keep things handy the big item in here and the one that we use all the time and it's really good to have handy is this awesome first aid kit by my medic we'll open this up near the end of this video so you can see what's inside of it but you would not believe the amount of emergencies this thing can help out with so highly recommend those you can also attach that to your seat back here which is really handy for the winter time to keep a pair of just thin you know knock around gloves something nice to have if it gets cold outside and a beanie i have these uh really nice higher end goggles in case you're in some sort of emergency where there's stuff in the air that you need to protect your eyes from those are pretty great i have this awesome monocle alright so this is forget the brand name i'll pop it up in the description a solo monocle uh 10x zoom and it's great if you just need to spy things they're far away or check out some animals in the woods we have a ton of fun with it when we go hiking matador blankets man these are one of our favorite things you'll find a few of these in here but these little weather proof blankets you can spread out anywhere they're great for taking to concerts they're great for going on a hike if you don't want to sit on kind of wet gross ground they're easy to clean easy to fold up we use these constantly and i can't recommend those highly enough i keep my bible in here this is my main bible it's kind of a backup bible but i'm a christian so i always like to have god's word nearby um alright some gum of course for obvious reasons i love spearmint it's always been my favorite flavor fight me let's see we have this awesome filtration mask um i think the brand is actually rz mask although this is a sponsored version that came from our uncharted supply company but these are really high-end i actually had this in here before the pandemic even just in case so that's served me pretty well another little tiny matador blanket you can see how small this is um just throw it in your back pocket if you're doing anything where you feel like you may want to sit down and it's pretty handy to have some different face coverings one of these is merino wool i think this is a smart wool kind of neck gator this is a thinner one that we got online pretty cheap a nice this is a harbor freight special here a nice just 10-foot extension cord since the f-150 has power outlets and plugs always handy to have around for little air inflators and stuff like that just a little cheapo towel thing this is a fun one the sas survival handbook if you're camping you want to do some bushcraft stuff or if you are an actual emergency you need to know what um how to treat wounds how what you know plants and stuff you can eat this is awesome resource for that i have some charging cables down here this o light cable charges one of these flashlights in the back a hitch pin is always handy to have another face covering just in case i need an extra some cheap fire starters um i think for uh my leatherman if i need to attach it to my belts i have a little plasma lighter thing that's just fun to play around with and then this tinder kit here um the dragonfire tinderbox extreme this is actually a battle box acquisition but pretty awesome tinder if you're looking to start a fire or just having trouble getting a fire going so one more thing i just realized i neglected to mention i have this little cubby down here where my trailer break is supposed to be but i keep this awesome um olight baton s1 the newer models go up to a thousand lumens this is just a 600 lumen version but this light is killer it's got a little magnet on the end and i find myself using that all the time for quick tasks so let's go check out what's in the back of the car the back of the truck is where the fun really starts because there's so much stuff stored away back here so uh we have kids seven and ten at the time of this video so we have these nice uh tactical booster seats uh so i'll just get these out of the way so we can look around um again my rule with all this you'll notice that none of this um none of the stuff i have packed in here impedes actually using these seats or getting stuff under them or or even clicking them up which is what i'm about to do so let's start with the driver's side and i'll show you what i have stored in the back here so these nice f-150 seats they fold kind of flat against the wall so that's always handy so you'll see a few things that we have back here for starters these two items here i don't always have these in my truck right now but they're both awesome this dji mavic mini drone kit is really killer this drone you can see how small it is and i have smaller hands too this thing is absolutely tiny it's got three batteries with it this hooks up to my phone but it captures awesome footage and is super light this is awesome to throw in a bag if you're just having any family adventures and want to capture some cool footage so i can't recommend that highly enough also the moonshade truck awning you saw or you may have seen our video about this recently we love this thing again i'm super pale you can tell just look at my arm here and this thing having this is extra protection against the sun it takes about three or four minutes to set up and it is absolutely killer just as good as those really expensive truck awnings but super portable and you can use it just about anywhere so yeah check out our video on that i think you love it can't recommend it enough all right so let's start looking at what's under my back seats here we'll start from this corner and just kind of work our way over so this is my trusty eno double nest hammock i've had this one for years these things are so much fun if you've never done one of these and you have trees remotely anywhere near you you owe it to yourself to go check these out these are great i have the atlas straps for that packed away in this bag more matador stuff guys their stuff is totally awesome i have this 30 liter duffel bag that packs away really small super light waterproof killer a little micro towel again if you're just packing up a backpack for a quick hike stuff like this is great to have around and they have this tiny little dry bag that packs up and looks like a little water droplet so that's pretty cool this ammo case is full of all sorts of stuff this is kind of my grab and go kit um whether i'm heading to a campsite or if i needed to leave the area or my truck fast and just needed to make sure i had the essentials i'll open this up near the end of the video and show you what's in it but it's super light pretty small packs away easy in here so i always have that handy all right another olight flashlight this one um they actually have a newer model of this this is the r50 seeker pro it's an expensive flashlight but guys this thing is bad to the bone it's about 3 200 lumens on the turbo mode and it is killer it's like using the sun at night it's also magnetic and can stick on surfaces and it's it's a lot of fun to use i love a good flashlight olight stuff i feel like is some of the best you can get so a nice trusty roll of duct tape always handy to have for obvious reasons some cheapo harbor freight nitrile gloves we keep these kind of all throughout these different compartments on this helenox chair you may recognize this from our champion our camping chair comparison video these chairs are absolutely great weigh a little over two pounds pretty easy to set up really comfortable i always keep this one on my trucks we use it all the time we've got some tactical gloves back here we have gloves in various compartments in the truck but these are just if you're going to get your fingers busted your knuckles busted doing some stuff these are handy to have i have a little emberlit collapsible wood stove um that has metal pieces that slide together so if you're making a little fire just to keep yourself warm or to cook on this is an awesome option plus just fun to mess around with kind of one of those bush crafty tools that's great to have speaking of killer tools the baka laplander this saw it kind of has a reputation as being the backcountry chainsaw and it lives up to that guys i've cut through so many things for that with this just preparing firewood and having fun just cleaning up campsites and man it's actually really light but it's super sturdy and i won't go camping without it i love having it in my truck all right solar power this is actually a recent acquisition i used to have a goal zero um five or ten watt charger but it is completely failed it doesn't do much at all anymore so this big blue brand if you check them out on amazon this is a 28 watt solar charger that works awesome i mean it'll charge your phone in no time it'll charge your tablet in no time it has all of these fold out panels even now you see how that just lit up i'm not even direct sun my uh sunroof is open a little bit but it's cloudy and overcast here and it's already slurping down power from the sun so this thing's great um really charges your phone tablets fast and so it's great having unlimited free power in the event that you need it and you can't use your truck for it so yeah that's everything that's under this seat so let's open it up further all right so there's a little secret compartment here that you may not even know that you have in your truck if you have kind of a lower trim f150 like me i don't have speakers or a subwoofer behind the seat so there's actually a way that you can open this and pull it down and store stuff behind it so you'll see this little tab here this is my secret storage area and it's awesome by the way if you have an f-150 and want to do that this little bracket from built right industries is about 30 in amazon this thing is killer otherwise there's just a little bracket you have to reach down for and try to finagle to get the seat down but this adds this tab that's always there it makes it easy to access so let's pull it out and pull this stuff out and take a look at what's back here we have a harbor freight special um tool kit i'll open that up at the end of the video so you can see what's inside of it but i've been shocked about how many times i just need a quick set of tools a hammer or a wrench or something and need access to that so that's super handy to have i have this bungee cord thing that i use all the time for tying down kayaks in the back of the truck and you may not be able to see but i also have a ton of zip ties velcro ties and lots of different connectors i kind of keep them all in this pack and this again this is a harbor freight thing too so not the highest end thing but these work great for me another harbor freight special is this tarp i've successfully avoided using it much yet so it's still nice and clean and still able to be tucked away in the bag but i keep that back here just for obvious reasons there's a thousand different things you can do with the tarp one of the most recent acquisitions and something we've reviewed in our blog that i'm head over heels for is this ridiculous um shovel from demos i think is how you pronounce it is the demos delta this thing is a fully expandable shovel that's um it can turn into a spade it can dig through just about anything it's probably more robust than the shovel you have in your garage but it's gotten us out of a pinch plenty of times it's great for digging fire pits it's great if your car gets stuck digging you out of the mud this thing is killer to have it weighs about six pounds and you can see folds down small i take it with those everywhere for obvious reasons so awesome shovel great to have ratchet straps if you have a truck you need ratchet straps nothing crazy there these were off amazon and they've done great for me in the past all right we're starting to get to some of the cool tools down here i have another helenox item here and this is a lightweight camping table it takes only a few seconds to set up and it's really fun it's just kind of low to the ground next to their chair has cup holders easy to put plates on it's a great thing to have for tailgating and again just family adventures so i keep that back here too we have good old harbor freight uh crowbar um i've heard these aren't the most reliable thing but i figure if i ever need to get in a box or just pry a gate open or something this is probably handy to have so i have that in here we have you can hear the stuff piling up um i have this gerber machete i believe this is i don't even know what model it is i think it's the junior model it's not the full size giant machete but again it's got a kind of a backup saw if you're clearing a campsite with bamboo and weeds and stuff and make short work of that and it's obviously as a guy just fun to play with at the campsite so i keep that stowed away back here and the last bit of gear i keep back here is this awesome fiskars axe that i use nearly constantly it makes short work of firewood it's pretty light it's got this nice hollow handle that makes it when you hit things you don't feel that shock in your arms so again awesome little piece of kit right here all right i realized i forgot to mention what i keep in this driver's side back pocket it's really just a few small things one is this mountain hardwear ghost whisperer jacket it serves as kind of an impromptu rain jacket but it's actually got a tiny bit of insulation on the inside and it's got a little hood that folds out but i love this jacket my wife says it looks like i'm wearing a trash bag i'm okay with that it keeps me warm it's really comfortable it's awesome for rain and it stows around it's like seven ounces so you can pack it in just about anything but super helpful and super handy to have and of course any survival situation you need a road trip bingo all right let's check out the back passenger side and see some of the items we keep here um again tactical booster seat i'm gonna get that out of the way you can see all the stuff that's accumulating can you believe that much stuff was in here um my wife makes fun of me all the time but there we are um so another little secret compartment f-150s have this pull tab so i'll pop this chair down so you can see you can see all the goodies falling out normally they don't spill out this way but since this is down too you can see it kind of went everywhere so first things first a great car thing to have i have these great um amazon tow straps that have gotten us out of plenty pinches actually on a camping trip recently my buddy in his really expensive truck got stuck in the mud and these were killer we were able to get them out no problem stood up to the task great to have lots of peace of mind there had this awesome expandable bucket this is actually something i found at walmart it's hard to get it up here with one hand but it's a full one gallon bucket that if you're just transferring water or cleaning dishes or just need to carry some stuff around even on a beach trip being able to pop this out and give it to the kids and letting them have fun is super handy this is a battle box thing this is their bubby blanket it's like a sleeping bag liner slash army style poncho um fair weather sleeping bag i used this in the camping trip recently where i forgot to bring my other stuff and it was great to have awesome to have just in case of winter emergencies um or even if you're trying to sleep in the truck for some reason this is super handy for that obviously have my jack back here i have some other smaller bungee cords that i keep handy have some little funnels that was a harbor freight find you never know what you may need a funnel for and then i have this awesome charger from the folks at uncharted supply company so this is their zeus charger which i think is like a 20 000 milliamp hour backup battery it has a flashlight on it it can charge your phone like 10 times or something crazy like that but the best thing about it is it's also a jump starter it has full jumper cables um i've jumped the truck before it's done great actually jumped my lawnmower with it a few weeks ago it's super handy but again another thing that's great peace of mind to have i keep it in the truck i charge it about every six months just to make sure it's topped off but a great little tool to have i've got one other thing stowed away below this back passenger seat kind of tucked away where the kids can't get it but i keep this gerber lmf survival knife that has a built-in sharpener this nice nice sheath but really great for cutting cordage for messing around doing some bushcraft stuff even has a carbide tip for emergency scenarios but a great survival knife to have handy behind the passenger seat again i try to keep these pockets where you can still put stuff in them but i have a fleece blanket you know fall and winter you're at a game it gets cold just a really nice kind of company fleece blanket to have i also keep these really thick black trash bags like contractor trash bags along with some lighter weight ones too that you can kind of see jam down there but those are always handy cleaning up or at a campsite or who knows what it's great to have those even to serve as kind of an emergency poncho if you need it really great to have finally we have the glove compartment where most normal people keep all of their crazy stuff again this is all torn apart because we have so much gear in here right now but uh let's open this up and take a look and most of this is fairly normal stuff some napkins we love these wet ones wipes that are antibacterial again during the season they're really handy we normally keep a lot of those in here i keep some hand warmers these hot hands they're really cheap at walmart so i stock up on those some quick grab gloves just for anything you're doing these are always about two dollars really great to have we have just some more nitrile gloves these little grippy gloves another harbor freight thing here um but you can get comfortable things on amazon or at the hardware stores but if you're helping a friend move this is what you want it grabs onto boxes it's a huge help so make sure you have a pair of those let's see we also have kind of buried under here beyond just the normal car stuff and paperwork i have this titan paracord this survival cord is awesome so it's 550 cord it's actually probably rated higher than that but it also includes you can kind of see the ends there um jute string in the inside copper wire and then a little fire cord a flammable string there's all sorts of different survival stuff built into this paracord so it's helpful to have a hank of that hanging around and then finally i just have some dust masks which i had before the pandemic even started so okay let's take a closer look at a few of these kits that i had throughout the truck the first is this simple harbor freight tool kit i believe this was 30 or 40 dollars and you know it's nothing special it's not top of the line or anything but it gives you you know sockets and a hammer and wrenches and pliers and just the normal stuff that you need if you want to have some knock around tools just to do a quick and dirty fix with this does the trick and actually despite what it sounds like me messing around with it it stays quiet in the back of the car so i never hear it rattling around or anything great to have definitely throw one of those in your truck this first aid kit is absolutely killer again the folks at my medic they make the best first aid kits i've ever seen this is one of their smaller ones but man is packed full of things actually there's so much stuff in it that had to make this list of items just to know what i had or if there's an emergency i need to hand it off to a paramedic or somebody that's qualified to use a lot of these things i have that handy so you'll find this little this is full of all sorts of medications from bug bite stuff to headache stuff to i don't know all sorts of vitamins and everything like that it's all packed in here there's gauze and saline and eye washes there's actually buried down in here thermometers even a little surgical kit which i don't know what scenario i'd be able to use that myself in without blacking out but it's there if i need it various tourniquets some paracord israeli bandages some sea locks blood clotting stuff all the gauze you could possibly imagine also stuck in some moleskin stuff for hiking all the gauze you could possibly imagine all sorts of different chest sill moon kits but it is all here so whether your family gets in trouble or you happen to pull up on a wreck or something happens you have the emergency stuff you need right here with you so this little ammo box is our final little treasure chest of goodies here again like i said this is our grab and go thing if i needed to leave the truck and just take essentials with me i would grab this if i'm going down to a campsite and want some stuff to mess with there's all sorts of fun stuff in here so let's take a look this is a case i think i got this at walmart for maybe six dollars like an ammo 10 but it's the perfect size for the back of the car so i have all sorts of fire starting things in here so this is an insta-fire packet i think that was about a dollar i have some laundry lint for tinder that stuff's great i've got this little makeshift uh boo-boo kit that packed full of stuff over the years it's got mini meds and stuff in it but the kids get a scrape you have a headache that takes care of most of that without having to pull out the big guns a sawyer mini water filter these things are awesome can filter up to 100 000 gallons of water make making it where you can drink out of a stream out of a waterfall just a great emergency thing to have so keep that handy this live fire fire starter is really cool you can pull this back expose just as much as you need light that up it takes a spark with a fire steel and burns like crazy so great a great little help to have if you're trying to start a fire even a campfire i also have some vaseline soaked cotton balls i put an old medicine bottle some repel sportsman deet spray great to have a good head lamp always keep fresh batteries in this these pencils are great really cool really great to have storm proof matches uh again another fire starting thing uh these will burn like crazy they burn underwater they burn in a downpour they smell terrible so buckle up uh you can see this little light just came on here this is an inflatable luminaid lantern it's kind of the size of a tiny pillow but it charges for long enough it puts out about 30 lumens of light white diffused light the kids love this it's fun to keep handy i get a tiny little survival guide this is a battle box thing that has all sorts of details it's like a miniature version of that sas handbook so really good to have a straw that goes with the soil filter a little expandable cup kind of like that bucket we looked at pops down into a full cup great to have this is a fire still i really like this brand i know you can get all sorts of others but just a typical i think there's a light my fire maybe yeah i like my fire fire still this thing i i've had more luck throwing sparks with this than just about anything else including some much nicer fire stills so a great ferro rod super handy if all that other stuff fails a tiny little bick really bright so if you drop it in the ground easy to find a cigar cutter if you're around a campfire you know why you need that this little mini bellows tool expands kind of telescopes out to if you're starting a fire being able to blow air down at the base without burning your face off is super handy this is another light my fire thing this is tied up with a zip cord this is i think it's called grandpa's fire fork it pops off you can put it on the end of a small stick and you have a great roasting tool can't go wrong with that there's zip ties and stuff stored down in here also this platypus water bottle really handy a signaling mirror with instructions in the back again for obvious reasons in emergency scenarios that's great a bandana this has a star map for navigation on it too this is a battle box fine from a while ago i love having that some zip locks um just always handy to have extra zip locks and tin foil this doesn't look like much but i've folded a whole bunch down to a little tight packet um this crazy storm whistle um this thing is like 130 decibels or maybe 120 decibels but it is loud as it gets so if you're stuck somewhere they say that blowing a whistle expends a lot less energy than screaming or yelling for help so one of those things that you kind of don't want to live without this cricut eating tool a really nice quality compass from sunto some super glue this is a great recent addition this is a little work sharp sharpener if you have a knife you're probably familiar with this brand but man these things are fantastic for keeping your blade sharp so what even if it's a edc knife or another knife these are great to have and finally we have some spare batteries some add-ons for my flashlights um and these little towel tablets that expand with water that are just great to throw in a pocket so a ton of stuff packed into a small little package that you don't want to be caught without [Music] all right so that's everything in my truck as you can tell it's absolutely packed to the gills with stuff but it's stuff that we use often it's stuff that i like to have around so it's just for peace of mind having all of that in there and i hope that's helpful to you as you decide how to prepare your vehicle but now what you've been waiting for is this week's awesome giveaway our channel is growing like crazy and
