what's going on everybody this is cloudy and fair let's talk about kenshi [Music] he is a hodgepodge of multiple different genres and it's kind of hard to give it a label but I would like to call it a squad-based RPG with strategy elements in it the player is placed in an open World sandbox a literal sandbox there is a lot of sand and they are able to recruit units and do whatever they want I typically start off making money through forced labor and then recruit a solid fighting force of seven or eight units and train them up then proceed to build a base somewhere to start my own country essentially but this video isn't about my typical playthrough this video is about my personal mod list so what mods do I use since kenshi is a game that is massive time sync and is also a single player game the best way in my opinion to modify the game is to reduce some of the idle grinding this means reducing the overall amount of time for leveling up skills Gathering resources and crafting because I can quite literally sit in the same place with vanilla kenshi and barely grind out any resources over 20 minutes of the game being set to high speed to combat these issues I've already stated I have grabbed the godsend exp 2X and godsend exp 5x mods I have both of them so I can change the amount of grind that I take on whenever I create a new game I believe the 2x is a nice increase but the 5x may be a bit too much ideally I think a 4X or three and a half X would be a much better Sweet Spot between having a grind and taking some time to level up skills and units while also reducing the amount of idle time that will happen during your typical play time of Kenji since skills will decrease the overall amount of time spent building crafting or performing other tasks these mods will take care of most of the gripes with the overall grind since the majority of the grind situation is now taken care of I start to look at Visual and Quality of Life mods these range from minor UI changes to new sets of armor and textures here's my current list that I use and I'm just going to go in the order that they appear on my steam list here I am going to go ahead and compile this mod list to where it's shareable and I will put it in the description of the video so you guys can import this and use this in your own runs if you would like to padded leather jacket this mod just adds in a new leather jacket it's nothing fancy iron Fortress armor new armor set that I like the look of and it doesn't have game breaking stats Merc armor bundle this just re-textures the mercenary armor and it looks pretty good Bandits expansion this implements more bandif actions to fully flesh out the early to mid game of kenshi Pocket Change 2.0 this is also known as the harsh version of pocket change this is an immersion in Quality of Life mod that adds money into every NPC's inventory the original Mod was a bit Overkill this one tones it down quite a bit your standard Bandits will have not much money on them but a captain may have a hundred or a couple hundred cats or so um I believe the holy nation paladins will have roughly one or two hundred cats and the samurai leaders will have about 700 cats but standard units will only have about 40 or 50 cats regenerates in towns basically if a town gets completely wiped out people will slowly respond this makes it easier to sell things and coincidentally harder to completely wipe a nation off the map better mercenaries this gives the mercenary AI a rework as well as expands their functions they aren't op or anything but you can hire them to guard an outpost for longer periods of time now wandering squads recruitables this mod adds in units that are recruitable from various wandering squads they'll match the race of the local populations in the area they will show up as a Wandering Drifter patrols and there will be various units in the squad that you will be able to talk to and recruit 5x more bolt charge this is just a microing ammunition mod essentially for late game it's kind of broken in early game so I don't use it as much but normally if I'm using ranged weapons I'm using them in mass and trying to micro 60 plus units with a bunch of crossbow bolts it just makes it toward the ammunition lasts longer and it's not as much of a headache weaklings always give XP this one's optional but it makes fighting roaming Bandits quite a bit more rewarding in mid to late game instead of them only being used for money generation now you will gain some levels even if you are super high leveled you will gain a little bit of experience from them martial arts not everywhere her some reason and vanilla kenshi everyone is an elite kung fu martial artist and for moving weapons from unconscious enemies is actually going to make them stronger this fixes that issue and now you can disarm enemies and they won't magically become uh Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris and Pummel you into submission Bandit disharmony the various band of factions are no longer Allied and they will fight each other over territory and resources like Bandits should this mod says it's outdated but for my testing it still works for the most part it may not work on all newly added Bandit factions but most original factions will still fight each other minor mesh fixes this is just a small graphical tweak to improve overall experience to where there's no longer like hair glitching through helmets and that kind of stuff military craft this basically adds in special move animations for each weapon type so as long as your unit has a high enough levels skill and said weapon you may see like flying eagle kicks from martial artists and other cool animations let's talk honestly one of the best mods in my opinion it lets conversations between units continue beyond pre-made ones and adds in various Randomness to it NPC is love shopping NPCs will now buy weapons and armor instead of only food and booze quiver minor Quality of Life mod that gives a storage slot for bolts and crossbows for your archers without using a backpack it actually is a backpack but it doesn't lower your combat proficiencies so it essentially makes it to where the backpack is a crossbow bolt only backpack and it's yeah so it basically creates a quiver backpack um and I like it more immersion minor quality of life a Trader backpack would work better for actual storage of bolts but Trader backpacks always have stat penalties Quivers don't higher bounties adds in a new faction that's mid to late game level content and they are essentially beefed up dust Bandits and have larger bounties better map Without Borders it's just a graphical update of the map I really like it it looks nice it's got borders in between the different zones and all the zones are labeled maybe not the best map to use if you've never played kenshi before because it does explain where every region is at and it's already like explored but it does not show where cities are or points of interest are so there is a little bit of give and take there but I like it since I've played kenshi enough to where I know where the cities are dark underwear is just personal preference I don't think underwear should be nearly as clean as what it looks like in Kenji so this fixes that so this one under the kenshi mod loader like in the actual kenshi application it's called stolzi I know it's not on Steam anymore um but essentially this mod adds in a bunch of end game bounties and fights I definitely recommend adding it for those of you who want hard fights later on but be warned you're going to want multiple people fully maxed out before you try and fight any of these bosses like 20 plus units that are all maxed out you will lose a lot of people if you don't guard posts help station malicious units at Gates and various points and towns or buildings to help prevent uh just attacks um I I like it a lot it's easy to just assign someone to the guard post and they just sit there and then they go and grab food or anything like that if they need it but otherwise they just sit there more names this simply adds more names to the random name generator for NPCs you know minor fixes food for NPC patrols this can easily break kenshi if you are used to playing vanilla it will make it seem like it's very easy um but essentially this adds food to the inventories of every NPC out there except for you know starving Bandits and whatnot because they're starving and what it does is for example like a holy nation Patrol will have a bunch of bread each unit will have one piece of bread and the bread may be partially eaten and then you can combine all the partially eaten breads to make a full bread and yeah so it does make food more accessible but it also makes sense because how are these people wandering throughout the Wasteland without food on them so that's the reason why I added it and it also makes things a little bit easier for food generation especially in early game um when you are nowhere near a place that you can buy food from or acquire food from dark UI is a huge UI tweak that I believe makes the game feel cleaner and less strenuous on the eyes this is definitely my personal preference but I believe it is better than the vanilla UI and I think overall it's just a it it's an amazing mod you should always use this in my opinion mediocre hairstyles this just adds in more hairstyles so your units can be fashionable at best race blood this simply repaints different blood pools to have unique colors for different races it's not that special or anything like that I just think it's kind of neat More Heroes you can now recruit stronger units and hub areas instead of just trash units there are now mid-level and higher end recruits available so instead of your best units being level 10 well now you can recruit level 20s and level 30s Advanced smithing edges 2 3 and 5. this makes it to where you can craft Super End Game weapons and it does take a lot of experience and like Tech so this requires you to have a very high level person and and weaponsmithing that is um and you have to research a lot it's not one of those freebie instantly unlock and you instantly can craft these type of weapons no that's not how this works this is a very very end game research so it is somewhat balanced in that sense it does give you edge 5 weapons but I mean considering I'm adding harder late game content I I like having my units fully decked out and decent gear um and they're not the best weapons in the game but they are definitely pretty good okay so this next one's gonna be optional uh training swords the these swords do zero damage so it sounds kind of like why would you why would you input weapons that don't do damage well if you capture a bandit and give them this sword and then you have a unit that has a training sword as well they will do zero damage to each other and they will just infinitely attack each other uh in like an arena setting and they will level up um this takes a huge portion out of kenshi but it does take a lot of setup I could see why people would say that this would remove uh too much of the grind and I understand that um but for some playthroughs I feel like this is a good way of recruiting a new unit and just having them train uh up that way instead of using training dummies the entire time um it kind of defeats the person uh the purpose of some training dummies but I think it's useful um I don't always use it but sometimes depending on the situation I think it is nice to get someone up to like you know 40 attack or something like that just to make it to where they don't instantly die in some areas um the next mod is increased recruitment this is just so I can have a massive Army for late game and besiege entire nations if I wanted to and finally more bounties this just makes it to where there are smaller bounties available on most Outlaw units you find they're they they aren't really worth much but it does help making wiping out abandoned Nest a little bit more worthwhile this concludes my current list of mods that I use in my playthroughs I enjoy browsing through the Steam Workshop and adding more to the list but there is a vast difference between the quality of some mods that are out there and I don't want to change the overall feeling or aesthetic of kenshi itself adding a new game items and gear sets are always fun but I don't like adding in things that will break the combat of the game as I still want there to be the kenshi experience and challenge remember kenshi is a single player game which means there isn't a competitive scene or balance that needs to be obtained mod the game to your heart's content because as long as you are enjoying the mod concoction that's all that matters no other opinions matter in this sense says there is no right or wrong way to mod the game that being said I hope this video helps those of you who are just starting out with modern country and gives you a baseline to start with I'd like to thank you all for sticking around for the video and if you enjoyed or appreciated this content and would like to see more kenshi related content such as this drop a comment and like the video and don't forget to subscribe to the channel have a good one
