[Music] [Applause] [Music] there you go there you go there you go there you go here we go [Music] welcome to hoovy's garage the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtuber in the case of this vanity plate on the diablo it's uh the dumber automotive channel and my bank account kind of feels like the samsonite suitcase at the end of dumb and dumber filled with ious because i completely spent myself broke buying not only this diablo but the 1989 lamborghini countach next to it in a bundle deal from an eccentric doctor who sold me both and both of them are the cheapest lamborghinis diablo and countage in the usa if you watched my video last friday you saw an introduction on the countach but today is my lamborghini diablo vt roadster now the diablo was the successor to the very long in the tooth countage which was being passed by other cars like the ferrari 512 and later in the pipeline was the jaguar xj220 and the mclaren f1 both cars had the title of the fastest cars in the world and it kind of left the lamborghini diablo in the dust dethroned lamborghini from being the ultimate poster car which the counta certainly was in the 80s to the 90s well it was kind of the loser and for that reason diablo values have stayed pretty reasonable up until very recently it's changing a lot values are skyrocketing not just because i bought one and i'm saying that because i bought it it's just it's happening and now that i actually own one i'm starting to understand why now the main reason for this i think is because the diablo is the last of the breed the last totally 100 in-house engineered lamborghini which makes it awful in a lot of ways now the later diablo started to get some influence from volkswagen and audi their new overlords but the murcielago was completely redesigned and well very very practical as far as v12 lamborghinis go the murcielago is still the cheapest and well maybe getting cheaper at least the longer i keep mine and the more holes we drill into it it keeps getting cheaper but this one it's certain to appreciate if i can manage to hang on to it and there are a lot of cool things engineered into this diablo that are superior to the mercy logo but a lot of it's really stupid but we'll start with the really cool part of the diablo vt roadster and that's this removable hard top which i have my lovely assistant elliot here to help me with this top he helped me film the intro as well he has to go back to work so that's why we're doing this first so the top removes well well by hand it's not power operated maybe okay i'm loose oh very good all right now this is actually a carbon fiber top it weighs absolutely nothing but it's so scary that this is a two-man jump i need to latch your your thingy all the way yes that's it okay and then it goes into the hole here in the front and then it locks in place on the actual engine hatch you go down until you hear a very satisfying click just just like that now i'll get the gopro to show you the latch mechanism but basically you're supposed to trust this completely irreplaceable top to uh some snap in thing that looks like it belongs on a a kid's toy utterly terrifying but uh i tell him he did it with the top on the rear hatch you can see how it integrates beautifully to the design of the car it's just absolutely gorgeous now this was lamborghini's first attempt at a convertible and i think they nailed it it's just absolutely gorgeous and there's only about 200 of these vt roadsters in existence that's it they made 3 000 total diablos which is about a thousand more than the countage on a much shorter production span so it's widely considered a smashing success for lamborghini but still a very rare car especially this vt roadster obviously the mercy lager roadster is a lot more common and the top system well it's uh not nearly as elegant it's a toupee like a viper there is one downside of this top being on the rear visibility is now well non-existent really about the same as hell a countach it kind of matches it but still you could drive around without this top piece attached you could just remove it kind of like my 348 target top over there and just leave it off especially if you're scared about the thing falling off in the wind or something which i certainly am but with it on there it really does look sharp and the whole diablo with the roadsters they rework the entire rear end of this thing for better ventilation obviously because this carbon fiber top was sitting directly on the engine and that's why these intakes are so much larger the whole rear end is just completely reworked but i love the shape of this rear wheel well as you can see the shape of it it kind of swoops like an old car from the 20s or like this thing's going 200 miles an hour standing still and look at the flow of the aerodynamics in this rear bumper as well this car is engineered a lot more for airflow and aerodynamics and the countage probably because they had a lot more money and time to develop it the countach was developed without a wind tunnel i think they tied pieces of string to the car and drove it down the road to see what the strings were doing this was actually developed using modern techniques and just look at it oh my goodness the other thing i love about this car is this is the last year of pop-up headlights after this they put in normal run-of-the-mill headlights which just aren't as fun but another thing this thing shares with the countach is the useless mono wiper you can see it's two wipers in one it swipes right across your driver's field of view and it's just as useless com completely useless we'll get inside here in a little bit but first let's do the scissor door which is a lamborghini trademark and this one stays up the only car of the three lanes i have that stays up on his own but look at the engine bay with the roof on uh it doesn't quite have the oomph to stay up on his own but just a beautiful beautiful engine bay really well laid out and unlike the countach there's not a mess of wires and vacuum lines and things everywhere this is a much more tidy well thought out engine bay when it comes to presentation in my opinion even more beautiful than the murcielago engine bay by a lot actually also just for fun the fuel rail cover has the bull on it in 3d diablo and the firing order of the cylinders which is just really really cool 485 horsepower this thing can go over 200 miles an hour when new and not having concrete blocks for tires that are probably original like this one but inside it's very well preserved just look at this only 19 900 kilometers which is like 13 000 miles the seats the leather is in great shape same with the dashboard i cannot believe how nice this car is and getting into it it's a way way nicer place to be than the touch even with the top on it's carbon fiber it's really thin i fit in here without being up against the roof and i don't have to gangster lean in to fit i fit just fine in this car it does share the climate control unit from the countach though this same 80s font in the same weird cold war era nuclear missile silo layout for the buttons for the climate control super super odd now there's a lot of quirks and features with this that doug demiro went in to detail on his video with a vt roadster so you can check out that video if you want a really in-depth dive on this thing but one thing i noticed that's different than the one he reviewed is the lights back here on the diablo that doug reviewed the useless dome light that moves well like three degrees moves nothing was on the passenger side it was completely flipped upside down so it may have been wrong on his car or wrong on this car but apparently you can install it either way and i wonder if at the lamborghini factory they just installed these things either way whichever way they wanted depending on their mood one other thing that's different is this tact on airbag here has a grab handle so initially the diablo didn't have dual airbags they added it after the fact and instead of putting something into the dashboard they decided to tack it on to where the glove box would be and take up a lot more foot room that's really weird but lamborghini a lot of these buttons make zero sense at all the only cosmetic issues have to do with the fading here on this center console but like i said nothing really makes sense here i guess this raises the suspension windows obviously this changes the engine performance some of these buttons do absolutely nothing because this is a roadster but really who cares about nonsensical buttons and bad ergonomics you're buying a diablo because you want a modern supercar that can do this as matt farah calls it the clink clink of the the gated manual this mechanical feeling that you just can't get in modern cars anymore that shifter in that experience might be one of the biggest reasons why the diablo is shooting up in value and if you take the murcielago for comparison one with a gated shifter is worth like a hundred grand more than an e-gear car like that one another thing that's really weird about this lamborghini is the layout of the pedals you can see down here uh the pedals are all the way to the right this is the door here but the pedals are all to the right side so the clutch i'm putting it in right now you can see how crooked my leg is on the seat meanwhile the gas pedal right there and just look how close together it is which makes driving this thing very interesting which we will cover now as i pull out into the garage and i know there is one little weird thing with this diablo when i turn the wheel lock to lock it sometimes triggers the horn so i randomly honk at people in parking lots which is kind of weird as practical as these goggles are wearing them in a convertible in the middle of winter a little embarrassing to be seen in a lamborghini the previous owner left these really nice sunglasses in the car for me yeah this is much better oh yeah let's roll bye [Music] so everything about this diablo is better than the countach with one exception and that's the pedal box the pedal box is somehow narrower so narrow that if i wear too wide of a shoe and i floor the car then my feet get stuck behind the brake pedal and like like the accelerator stuck is my foot and my feet really aren't that big or wide it's just that close together i suppose it makes heel towing very easy but otherwise in normal everyday driving it's a it's pretty annoying but other than that there's not a lot of annoying ergonomic quirks to driving this car you can adjust the steering wheel to exactly how you want it you can adjust the seat to an actual spot that works of course the roof coming off makes it easier for me to fit as well but then you also have power steering better brakes and way way more acceleration way way more what was that noise you hearing that sounds like the tire is rubbing on the fender a piece of plastic or something but anyway back to what i was saying this is the much more practical reliable lamborghini supposedly well i certainly spent a lot more nights like most people dreaming about the countach the diablo was also a car that i always wanted i can't believe i have it but the main reason i wanted it was because it seemed attainable price wise it seemed like it was reasonable to buy one of these reasonable and maintain them for a classic lamborghini this seemed like the best value and of course it is absolutely gorgeous but that's all changing unfortunately these things are getting very expensive very fast and that's why i thought i would never be able to own one ever which is why i was so excited in the video to to buy one of these at a reasonable price basically the seller he wanted when he paid for the cars you know 10 or so years ago and i completely lucked out obviously i haven't revealed that number yet so i may do it someday maybe this video gets a million views to view it and a million likes i will but for now i'm gonna keep that close to the vest because i'm not sure if i'm going to be able to afford to keep these cars but i am certainly going to try now both the cars have some issues they need some sorting before i would try to sell them for the higher price they both had been sitting for many years both driven less than a thousand miles in a 10-year period which is just insane so i'll have to get him up to the car wizard and see what he has to say about both of them and that'll continue to influence my opinion whether i keep both sell one sell both i i don't know at this point i really don't want to sell either of them but i may have to face reality i i don't know so i guess you could say this diablo and the countach that i just bought are some very very very expensive hoopties and it just goes to show you that buying an extremely low mileage car even though it's garage kept and owned by someone that can clearly afford to keep these things running can be a problem because they're not used enough that's why the tires are all gone on these things there's some leaks there's some weird stuff that needs to be sorted out and actually the tires on this diabolo were harder to find than on the countach the countach tires showed up right away meanwhile these weird diabolo tires were very hard to find in the rear and extremely expensive almost two thousand dollars for just the rear tires so i'm already starting to peel and squeal all these cars and i really have no choice because the tires are so bad on this diablo that is almost undrivable at any kind of speed that's why i didn't drive it for very long but hopefully i'll get some tires for it soon and then i can actually start using these things so hopefully the car wizard will show me some mercy but first i want to find out the value of these things and there's no place better to take a car like this for an appraisal than well you guessed it carmax which is where i'll go in my next video thank you for watching you
