[Music] oh [Music] [Music] welcome to garage and as it says on the back of my lamborghini countach the dumbest automotive channel in all of youtube and yes this is my 1989 lamborghini countach 25th anniversary edition which i bought on the same day as my 1997 lamborghini diablo vt roadster and i'm still pinching myself i still can't believe i happened to find the two cheapest lamborghinis diablo and countach in the usa just a few miles from my house down a dirt road being sold by an eccentric doctor but here they are i wrote a check and i guess my kids weren't college material anyway because it all went in to lamborghinis but i'm still not sure if i'm going to be able before to keep these cars long term but i sure am going to try it's obvious why i'm going to try this is the legendary poster car this countach the car we're going to focus on today but despite it being the car of everybody's dreams it's actually an awful awful car when it comes to doing car things despite the very long production run spanning three decades from the mid 70s until 1990 they made less than 2 000 countages total that's not very many but the most common is this the 25th anniversary editions made in 1989 in 1990 they made something like 650 of these so despite it being the last of the run whereas most cars when they're at the end of their product run they're not very popular and the sales drop off this was the most popular by far and it's kind of easy to see why this is the craziest most flamboyant version of the countage ever made and every time i see one of these in person from a distance i just assume i assume it's a fake because they didn't make very many real touches there's a lot of fake ones out there and at least on the skin the construction it looks identical really really close to fakes but this one is very real and back in 1989 he would have paid 145 000 for the privilege of owning this this back crippling borderline undrivable machine and in today's money that's over three hundred thousand dollars yes it seems crazy for anybody especially a tall person like me to spend this much money to subject themselves to this much pain and torture and well poor driving experience but when you look at the car it's easy to see why the countach was built as the replacement from the lamborghini mira and the miura was automotive art it's a beautiful masterpiece and this countach coming as its replacement is much less art and way more pornographic and like a porn star a lot of the things on this car are very fake and have no practical purpose whatsoever you look at the shape of this car and you think that it's very aerodynamic with its wedge shape and in reality it's certainly not the drag coefficient was .42 which is well downright awful for context a ford taurus from the 80s had a drag coefficient of 0.32 so this thing is a brick when it comes to wind resistance and this wing here it does absolutely nothing but slow the car down the shape of it provides very little if any downforce and it's not like these giant rear tires need more grip anyway it's just absolutely totally useless on there totally for decorations so we make fun of honda civic owners for putting giant wings on the back of their cars but lamborghini was doing it in the 1980s and since i mentioned the tires let's get a close-up of these things because holy moly it is as wide as a dually truck rear end is absolutely ridiculous and only 15 inches in the diameter you can see this is all weather checked the tires are absolutely ancient and i was worried i wasn't going to be able to find these but i actually did find them on tire rack the car ninja is going to mount them on and do an alignment so thank goodness for that but just absolutely ridiculous and apparently only made for the lamborghini countach no other car shares this uh wacky 15 inch ultra wide rear tire with a very very deep dish back up to the spoiler let me show you something which is equally ridiculous this spoiler clearly was an afterthought but despite this lamborghinis have a trunk back here let me see if this works sometimes the latch doesn't go alright we got the engine bonnet going up there we go big old v12 there and also we have a storage compartment which is pretty decent you could fit a normal full-size suitcase it's about the same size as an overhead storage bin on an airplane the liner here this is lamborghini quality here people but now that both the trunk and the engine bay are open you cannot close onto the spoiler you would damage both things because this big spoiler is an afterthought they didn't originally come with this so you close that up oh geez look at these intakes now this was the fastest car in the world at one point i think 185 miles an hour 449 horsepower in this final version but when you look at it as a car it is well it is down right awful there are a lot of things starting with this windshield wiper which is a mono wiper you can see there's a smaller one right underneath the large one and when it swipes it stops right in the driver's field of view so not only does this thing stop right in your eyesight it also doesn't clean that side of the windshield so it's pretty much useless in the rain the window you can see it's rolled down slightly well that's not slightly that's all the countage can do this this is it and since the climate control isn't working in my car at the moment it doesn't blow anything this is all the ventilation that i have now rear visibility i don't understand at all because this window does absolutely nothing all you do is look into this big air vent which was added in the final version the 25th anniversary edition to look like a testerosa so this window does absolutely nothing there is a matching one on the other side once again zero rear visibility but the back window here i'm gonna try and show you to you it's uh it's mere inches so when they added horsepower to the countage with a different carburetor setup and eventually fuel injection they had nowhere to go but up and they took away all the rear visibility from the rear glass not that there was any to begin with so looking out this window is absolutely pointless and then they add a third brake light as a final insult so you really cannot see anything it is absolutely ridiculous which is why people who drive these countaches often will sit outside of them to look up over the car to back out of the stall which is what i'll do when we leave here first though i gotta shoehorn myself into this car which is a feat unto itself the scissor doors are just absolutely amazing of course but inside here is well where things get kind of really difficult so i have to put my leg under the steering wheel which does not adjust and i'm in as you can see my head is completely tilted up against the roof which is not going to work for driving so what i do is sort of gangster lean it i lean down so my spine is instantly getting scoliosis and now i i sort of fit but my knees are sticking out on either side the pedals are crooked so my left leg is pushing farther for the clutch but the gas pedal well it's not that far so you can see i really genuinely don't fit in this thing but even though i don't fit in this car i don't want to sell it and i have owned this car's main rival briefly the ferrari testerosa and i fit in that car a lot better but i couldn't wait to get rid of that car also the steering wheel completely crooked the dashboard it looks like a cheap kit car dashboard but that's that's a lamborghini with the very flat windshield my seat adjustments are hidden in here uh not that i can really adjust the seat much at all it's just all the way back anyway let's roll all right here we go all the snow has melted mercifully so there's conflicting opinions on the countage and if you take two of my heroes for example they're very different in those opinions james they drove one of these in top gear and he described it as don't meet your heroes it was also a poster car when he was a kid on his wall and then when he had the opportunity to drive one it was very disappointing probably because he's sort of tall like me but he said the driving experience wasn't that good either now if you look at the other side of the coin jay leno has owned a kuntang in 1986 for over 20 years and he called his daily driver for a while and he put 70 000 miles on the car and thinks they're wonderful to drive and reliable which is really hard to believe because maybe he had a butler that he paid to uh get out behind the car make sure he wasn't about to kill somebody backing out i don't know because you cannot see a thing that doesn't matter if you're going straight oh yeah i have to be careful with these ancient tires i can't wait to get them swapped out despite that this car drives so well i cannot believe how nice this car drives considering it's only been driven 150 miles in seven years seven years and the tires are probably 20 years old maybe older so maybe leno's opinion on reliability does have some merit and another friend of mine who owns a countach doesn't live too far away from me actually those two countries i asked what i need to do with this car since it's been sitting for so long to get up to stuff and he just said drive it they're reliable they're great driving cars which i guess that's what i'm doing so clearly i look ridiculous in this thing my legs are wrapped around the steering wheel my head is hitting the ceiling and when i own the testerosa briefly that wasn't the case i had plenty of room on the inside but now that i've had both even though the testosterone was very brief ownership i actually had to give it back because of a title issue but i didn't fight very hard because it was kind of like what james made was saying never meet your heroes because it wasn't that fast it felt really fragile the gearbox needed to warm up and it was still very clunky and that's just how testerosis are plus the service it was just it was just scary i knew it needed to come out for a belt service the engine needed to come out for a coolant thermostat change this is absolutely ridiculous and it definitely didn't drive like this the countach is way faster way way faster and a lot more engaging to drive just terrified of these tires and it's starting to spit a little bit of rain but it's fun all right car stopping in front of me okay uh brakes are definitely not supercar brakes they're they're more like truck brakes okay and we're off again now there are some things in this car that don't work uh the comics drill like i said doesn't work it's making a weird beeping noise like one of the morning beeps almost like a doors come open or a seat belt needs to be fastened and i do notice that it dribbles a little bit of coolant i topped it off before we went on this drive so there are some things for the car wizard to look at on this car but nothing that i'm that worried about this thing only has 17 000 kilometers there's like 10 000 miles and it is in great condition i cannot believe i picked this thing up for what i paid for for what i've paid for both cars which i didn't reveal in the last video for good reason because if i don't keep this car saying what i paid for it would set me up for fail when it came time to sell it because then everybody would know and then they'd realize how much money i was making uh but i suppose if this video gets over a million views a million likes then i'll reveal how much i pay for both cars and then i can probably afford to keep them probably i don't know i mean i need straw man to use basically in order to hang on to this thing so make sure to share watch like whatever button makes this thing more watchable but thank you so much for watching this video is awesome oh no my headlights i wanted a flashlight for the camera but their left one stopped blinking since it's stuck when i turn it off and on again it stops if i if i turn on the headlights it quits that's good okay all right thank you for watching
