hi guys Justin here and I'm about to go on a trip so I thought it'd be a good time to show you the gear that I've been using in 2019 welcome back guys so today I'm gonna be going over those core items I bring on every trip whether it's an overnighter or a week-long trip there's a few other items that I call my sometimes items that I'll bring on trips depending on the conditions and includes things like gaiters micro spikes a chair I've done reviews on most of these items so I'll link them all in the description below so take a look at that if you want detailed reviews on things like my tent the pack with a quilt here as well as a bunch of other other items first up we're gonna take a look at the pack so I've here the REI flash 55 pack I've had this for six trips now it's a new pack that REI released in 2019 and I've loved it so far it holds everything that I needed to is super light for a mainstream pack and is pretty affordable as well next up we have my tent so this is the 3 F ul lantian one one person tent when I'm going out with friends I don't need to share a tent with that I'm just going on solo trips the one person tent I like to save that weight so that's why I use this and it is a trekking pole tent so I have my trekking poles here these are the carbon-fiber quirked costco trekking poles super floor-length they're like 20 30 bucks on sale and a lot of people have them and they've been bomb-proof for me for for several years now so great great trekking poles so with the tent I use 9 stakes I use one aluminum Y stake three titanium beefsteaks and five of these titanium Shepherd hooks and then to carry a little miscellaneous things like my camera and other new dads I use a tiny little mech fanny pack that's been working out great for me alright on to my favorite thing the Sleep System this year I just revamp my entire Sleep System and I'm loving it gotta say it's the most comfortable I've slept on the trail forever and that's due to these three items right here first up we have the therm rest vesper minus-6 quilt so this is a quilt that has a comforting of 0 greens are freezing and has been really good for me I've taken it down to minus four with the down hoody on and it's been great and it's nice and wide it has a lot of great features and it's widely available at any of your major retailers which is why it was good for me while living in Canada underneath the quilt and underneath me I have the c2 stomach ether light XT so this is a men's insulated size large so it's 25 inches wide six and a half feet long and has tons of space and is really really comfortable so this thing's four inches thick which is really great if you're a side sleeper or bottom out on sleeping pads with your shoulder hips I haven't bought a note on it at all and it's a super comfortable sleeping pad huge effective area and all around if you're looking for comfort the sleeping pad that I recommend next up we have this weird-looking pillow so this is a trek ology pillow that I got off of Amazon with a foam topper polyester topper with foam pieces inside that I glued on top and this thing's been super comfortable the trek ecology is a great supportive pillow really good baffling and then the foam on top just it's a cherry on top so that's it for the big three and my sleep system so let's get these out of the way and take a look at the other items that are part of my gear list alright so here we have a bunch of hydration and food stuff and then little doodads or Diddy's as some people like to call them so starting off with my hydration system I take 2 1 liter smart water bottles having a sports cap on one of them and then to filter my water I use a Sawyer squeeze the full size not the micro and I've heard the micro has been having some problems so take a look at reviews of that before picking it up I use a sea knock water bladder just to scoop water and then squeeze it through the filter into the bladders and I use the little attachment to attach the filter to the bottle so it's much easier while you're filtering I also keep just a little extra water bottle cap just in case I lose one of the ones that I have so I'm not stuck with only one liter of water onto food I use a 10 liter dry bag to cook the food I a hoax 750 milliliter pot and then as a stove a B RS 3000 titanium stove that I just throw on to a canister and I use a mini bic blue mini bic lighter like seems everyone else out there in order to light the stove and then I eat the food with a titanium long handle spoon with a polished bowl and I really like that polished bowl just for how it feels in your mouth while you're eating moving across we get to my first-aid kit so this is just a little first-aid kit with some Cape some drugs bandage and antiseptic as well as a little plastic face mask went with a one-way valve for CPR then we have toilet paper and soap for going to the washroom and then a little bit of Diddy's like nighttime stuff toothpaste toothbrush or overnight drugs I've earplugs I sleep with your plugs dental floss and then some lip chat as well this is my electronics bag I've have a three liter SIL nylon bag that I put all my electronics into I use an anchor 6700 milliamp hour battery pack this thing's really light and it doesn't charge very fast but it discharges two amps which is fine for charging up all my electronics and then I also have a Garmin Phoenix five Plus titanium watch that I bring on all my trips and I have a little extra court in order to charge that if I'm doing a whole bunch of GPS activity and don't have it an ultra track mode and I love this watch I wear it all the time to work out to play hiking and it's an amazing watch I'll do a review on it at some point in time for my headlamp like everyone else in the world I use a night core and you 25 I've gone around to changing the headband to get super ultra light but it's a great little headlamp super bright and I always bring my garment inner each mini with me so this is 100 grams and provides SOS service as well as two-way communication this thing is awesome I've used it a whole bunch and it just makes me feel that much safer when out in the backcountry and it's probably one of my favorite piece a gear that I have I also have this little garment MP pod that connects to the watch and acts as a temperature gauge so I like to stick that outside of my tent on a guy wire at night and then if I wake up I like 2 or 3 in the morning and I'm cold it's nice just to be able to check the temperature outside and see what the temperature is so that I can adjust my sleep system accordingly knowing the temperature that it's minus 3 or minus 4 and I'm starting to get cold I mean is really good information that I use when planning other trips all right off with this stuff and onto clothes so here we have my clothes this is the dividing line between my camp clothes and my everyday wearing clothes so we'll start with the camp clothes I have fleece pants and a fleece sweater I camp in the Canadian Rockies it gets really cold tonight so having full fleece pants and sweater makes a really big difference for comfort at night and well around camp I also have a merino wool short sleeve shirt I think it's 150 as well as a merino wool hat and some reno wool nighttime socks so this is what I wear at night it keeps you really warm and is really comfortable onto what I wear while I'm hiking I use a Arc'teryx allahö long-sleeve shirt and this is a nylon shirt super comfortable quick drying really light but also has that long sleeve factor if you need some sun protection and a collar I like hiking collared shirts just to keep the Sun off my neck and to be a little bit fancier in the backcountry you know these are my purple Patagonia baggy shorts I cut the liner's oh because I don't like liners in my shorts I like to wear boxer briefs and for that I use stanfield air FX boxer briefs really comfortable super lightweight for socks I've changed things up a little bit while hiking this year I've been using descent I think that's how you pronounce it descent compression socks so these are crew socks that have a little bit of compression to them and I've been using these on a few trips and I really wanted to take a look at them because I use the descent compression socks for skiing they made a huge difference when backcountry touring with foot swelling and overall blisters and comfort I'm gonna put them through their paces this summer and we'll see how they stack up against kind of the darn tough staples then all my head and percent protection I use a Tilley air flow hat this thing's great got on the Tilley train this year my friend Tilly Tom turned me on to these they're a little bit warm compared to a cap but it really keeps the Sun off your face and you get a little bit of that cowboy style with them and also for some protection probably recognize these these my sunglasses they're just Mountain Equipment co-op sunglasses about 30 40 bucks and just keep the Sun on my eyes and help with eye protection so that's all my clothes still have my jackets and footwear so let's take a look at those alright so we've got two jackets here we got a frog togs emergency jacket so we're really thin rain jockey it also stops the wind from coming through so good for warmth but this is just a super ultra light jacket I planned trips around the rain when I can but if I'm uncertain of whether it's gonna rain I'll bring this and there's a heavier Duty jacket I bring if we're doing any bushwhacking or I know it's gonna rain a lot for a warmth and this is for around camp and while sleeping sometimes I have the classic Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer hooded version and this thing's been really warm warmer than I expected it would be especially for how little it weighs so great jacket the hype is real and I'm really liking it on my feet I use the ultra King empties so these are a little bit stiffer in the soul than ultra ohm peaks and that's what I really like about them and they have a bit of better tread and a bi room sole that's a bit stickier on rocks and slippery services so I usually don't crush a ton of miles when I'm hiking but I'm usually hiking in the mountains on a little bit more technical training so I need something just a little bit sturdier with that good sole with tread and grip enos on it so that's why I like these over the little Peaks I have lone peaks as well and if I'm doing something super cruzi then I'll hop on those and go for a ride so that's my gear for 2019 guys if you have any questions leave them in the comments below I'm also going to be posting a link to my sometimes items list and we'll go over when I bring out things like Gators or a chair and what scenarios I use those items like I said I'll have reviews to all these items linked below in the description thanks for watching guys and I'll see you next time
