[Music] let me stop trying to be cute and put my glasses on because lord knows i can't see i cannot see i'm legally blind anywho what's up y'all i'm saying y'all but i don't know if anybody other than my mom is gonna be watching this video so if you're anybody other than my mother what's up mom what's up to you too because i know you're gonna watch it but um this is like my 15 millionth attempt at starting a youtube channel but we're not going to talk about that today's video is basically going to be me telling you guys about how i randomly move to a new city new state in the middle of a panoramic let's get into okay so the story goes i just graduated from college mississippi state university hill state so i started feeling like really complacent really bored with my surroundings because i had been there long enough long enough so um i originally had a job offer in san antonio and i went to san antonio looked at some apartments with my mom the whole nine and i really honestly and truly was not feeling san antonio but i was just so eager to move i was kind of forcing myself to feel it and your girl your girl wasn't feeling san antonio um and then you know the pandemic popped off so god kind of nudged me away from san antonio and i'm so happy he did because nothing's wrong with san antonio but i feel like the area that i was going to be in was kind of more for people who were already established you know like mid 30s 40s in their careers with families and stuff and that's that's my meme that's that's far from me let me tell you okay i'm i don't know what i'm doing i'm out here winging it anywho um so after san antonio i decided not to go to san antonio i said why not you know i like texas i you know texas is a pretty cool state i was born in texas so i was kind of stuck on texas already first i was gonna go to houston but i was like you know what houston is a little bit so much fun and i wasn't gonna get nothing done in houston so i had to kind of make like a little grown-up decision there um and i said you know what dallas is a pretty cool area dallas is pretty poppin um and it has a great network for like young black professionals so here's where the tips come in so if you plan on moving anywhere honestly start listening here so once i decided on dallas texas i the first thing i did was got in contact with a apartment locator because let me tell y'all apartment locators make finding apartments so much easier because they find apartments that you probably won't see online and they tailor everything to exactly what you want so it makes it so much easier than you going through thousands of apartment websites trying to find something so i use rad pad and no i'm not sponsored by red pad nothing like that but this is very helpful so if frag pad is available for wherever you want to move to i suggest you use it but anywho i went on red um they asked me where i wanted to move to like what area of dallas i want to live at what my budget was um if i was flexible what i had to have in my apartment like you know some people are really picky about things that they want in their apartment or you know certain amenities so i did all that and then they texted me a list of places that matched whatever i put in whatever information i put in and then once i went through the list i favored it the ones that i liked and then they helped me set up tours for those apartments i had narrowed it down to three so after i did all of that i literally that same weekend i literally got in my car in like four o'clock in the morning y'all like four o'clock in the morning and left for dallas to go tour some places so i came down towards three apartments i'll insert them in the video if i have some clips i think i do i think i do but yeah two or three different places the first one they weren't a very friendly staff so that kind of gave me an insight on how they would be if i were to move in like y'all aren't even thrilled to tour me so i know you know if i live here you're not going to be thrilled to have me as a as a occupant so i didn't stay there but the place was beautiful like it was so nice but their customer service basically ruined it for me [Music] um the second place i wanted to live at they were a little bit too expensive for what the apartment looked like like y'all trying to put me in a shoe box for thirteen hundred dollars no if that was the case i could have built my own shoebox and lived in um so i didn't go with the second one [Music] and then the third one the one that i'm at right now um that's the one i liked at the time but actually i'm ready to move about it here too um not because of the apartment but because of the name that's another video anywho i said [Music] and then once i got here um and toured and everything she was like you know well when did you want to move in i was like ma'am i move into i'm moving tomorrow today whatever whenever now let's let's let's wrap it up i did my application everything the next day i was headed back to did i stay here yeah i actually did stay here i bought a hotel and i stayed in downtown dallas and me and my friend we linked up we got matching tattoos well actually let me tell y'all it's crazy that was our first time hanging out and we got matching tattoos boom first night in dallas was lit and i wasn't even living here yet but i could make a video on that night too because then i was fun i still got videos and it was super random next day i went back to starkville they told me i got approved so i sent in all the money they needed yadda yadda next weekend i packed my stuff and i was gone i i was gone i'm still with starkville like my lease and everything was still in place at starbucks i wasn't even done with my lease in aspen then i moved to dallas okay so my second tip besides first finding an apartment locator my second tip would be if you are moving you don't have a job yet in the area that you're going to and you don't have the funds yet when you look for your apartment make sure you look for places that have leasing specials going on okay i was lucky enough to get an apartment that i think they waived the first two months of rent y'all let me tell y'all those first two months wave rent fees really do help okay because that allows you to get in and then you have time to find a job you have time to build some funds you have time to you know figure everything out okay just take it step by step don't try to think of everything that needs to be done at once start step by step and i would definitely recommend finding a place that at least waves the first month of rent if you can get the first month of rent for free let me tell you you're doing good okay you're doing good and then you worry about the rest when you get there and i also didn't mention with radpat and most apartment locating services if you are moving like if you're moving in the same state to another city nine times out of ten they do free um moving fees so that's another um thing you don't have to pay for or if you're moving from out of state to another state they do the 100 rebates so i got 100 for moving in like i didn't have to do anything i didn't pay them to help me find the apartment i didn't pay for anything they just gave me a hundred dollars for moving in so you could use that a hundred dollars to help you with the move you can use the hundred dollars to help you with rent a light bill or water bill wi-fi anything okay next thing after you've um found an apartment that you like that has at least a month off of rent or a month of free rent after that now it's time to actually make the move so to make it so much easier on you if you're moving by yourself if it's just you and your car or something like that i would 100 recommend you move with as little as possible i literally threw away almost over 70 80 probably over 80 percent of my wardrobe away nine times out of ten i didn't wear the clothes that i was hoarding didn't have any furniture and stuff to move in with because the apartments that i was staying in college it came furnished so i didn't need furniture so that made it so much easier to move as well however if you are moving with furniture and things like that let me tell y'all go to u-haul rent one of those trucks for twenty four dollars get the twelve dollar insurance get you a friend to drive that truck or you drive that truck and then you drive your car or vice versa and move it it's not expensive as everyone thinks it is especially if you do everything or if you try to do everything yourself so after you moved in and everything and got everything situated well probably not everything you might be sleeping on an air mattress for a week two weeks two weeks might turn into two months three months four months five months it doesn't matter get yourself situated in your own time at your own pace but after you moved in and everything now you need a job right so luckily you found you a place that you know gave you the first month off second month off maybe if you extra blessed um and now you just need to find a job people are so sleep on staffing agencies let me tell you try to find a staffing agency in your area because that's what i did and they had me a job within maybe within a week they really push the application through sometimes they even help you with your interview skills and they'll help you you know the best way that they can to secure a job um i had a very informal interview with the staffing agency and then they sent me a bunch of jobs that they think i would be good for um and they even asked me what price range i wanted to uh what pay rate i was most comfortable with accepting and then they tried to find jobs that fit those parents so they really helped me out there and you get paid every week with a staffing agency so your come up may be a little bit quicker because now you get money in your pocket a little bit quicker than having to wait until the next pay period rolls around you know with the with the get paid with the pain bi-weekly you know how that goes with a staffing agency you get paid every week you don't get no better than that and i just want to say to the people that have been thinking about moving um for a long time maybe and they keep letting different things get in their way like maybe they don't think they can afford the move or maybe it's because they don't know anybody where they want to move to or maybe it's because they've been living in a certain area all of their life and they don't want you know to experience the shock that comes with moving because there is going to be a shock especially if you're moving somewhere and you don't know anyone or you've never been to that place it's gonna be a shock um however you can either make that move deal with the shock for a little bit and then finally come into your own whenever you move or you can stay where you are and wish you were moving or wish you had made that move you only have one life to live my move was definitely a faith move you have no time for fear if you have faith you have no time for fear okay so um i'm just here to say make that move if you have any questions about moving and you want to talk about it with somebody i'm here even if i don't know you if i do know you whatever i'm here to talk about it and give you as many tips as i can especially if you're moving to the dallas area um because there's definitely a lot of things that i know now that i wish i would have known before i moved to dallas a lot um and i could definitely share those tips with anybody who you know might want to move to dallas um but yes make that move stop being scared don't be scary make the move okay
