I think if there’s one thing I think if there’s one thing
that we lack in the world today it’s trust. today it’s trust.
It’s hard because we don’t It’s hard because we don’t
trust anybody. trust anybody.
I bet everybody here has at I bet everybody here has at
least one person you don’t least one person you don’t
trust. trust.
Who wants to say that Who wants to say that

You’ve got two? You’ve got two?

Who’s got three or four Who’s got three or four
people you don’t trust? people you don’t trust?
Oh, there’s one who’s got Oh, there’s one who’s got
five or six people he five or six people he

So we all have somebody we So we all have somebody we
just a little bit leery just a little bit leery
about, see. about, see.
Well, the bad part about that Well, the bad part about that
is that kind of goes over is that kind of goes over
into our relationship into our relationship
with God. with God.
If I don’t trust you, that If I don’t trust you, that
same relationship is same relationship is
gonna go on to God. gonna go on to God.
I’ve heard people say, "Oh, I I’ve heard people say, "Oh, I
don’t want to get too close don’t want to get too close
to God because He’s gonna to God because He’s gonna
take everything away take everything away
from me." from me."
Where did you get back that Where did you get back that
crazy idea? crazy idea?
You see, God isn’t cool. You see, God isn’t cool.
See if things are going bad See if things are going bad
for you then they’re going for you then they’re going
to go bad, but we need to go bad, but we need
the Lord to love us, the Lord to love us,
to forgive us. to forgive us.
There’s nobody here and There’s nobody here and
nobody watching me out nobody watching me out
there that doesn’t need there that doesn’t need
a tremendous amount of a tremendous amount of
forgiveness. forgiveness.
Not only do you need to Not only do you need to
forgive, but you need forgive, but you need
forgiveness. forgiveness.
And you’ve got to trust when And you’ve got to trust when
somebody forgives you. somebody forgives you.
You find it hard to trust You find it hard to trust

You don’t find it hard? You don’t find it hard?

You’re unusual. You’re unusual.
How many people here find it How many people here find it
hard to trust somebody after hard to trust somebody after
they did you in? they did you in?
Yeah? Yeah?

It’s just natural to us to It’s just natural to us to
say, "Well, I wonder if say, "Well, I wonder if
they’re going to do that they’re going to do that
again?" again?"
But see, we can’t act But see, we can’t act
that way towards God. that way towards God.
He is Father. He is Father.
He is Brother. He is Brother.
He loves us. He loves us.
He forgives. He forgives.
He’s Master. He’s Master.
He’s Lord. He’s Lord.
He’s everything. He’s everything.

The people we deal with The people we deal with
sometimes are not too good. sometimes are not too good.
But even there the Lord has But even there the Lord has
asked us as Christians to asked us as Christians to
forgive and love our forgive and love our

I’m going to tell you a I’m going to tell you a
little bit from the little bit from the
Scriptures, and I got a nice Scriptures, and I got a nice

about trust. about trust.

That’s where we do that here That’s where we do that here
a lot. He said to us, "Don’t worry He said to us, "Don’t worry
about your life and what about your life and what
you are to eat, or about you are to eat, or about
your body or how you’re your body or how you’re
to clothe it." to clothe it."
I went to the ear doctor I went to the ear doctor
today and he said to me, today and he said to me,
"Mother, you’ve got to have a "Mother, you’ve got to have a
hearing aid." hearing aid."
My God, here I am 69 and My God, here I am 69 and
I’ve got to have a hearing I’ve got to have a hearing

And I said to the sisters, And I said to the sisters,
"I’m going to have to get up "I’m going to have to get up
a half-hour early now to put a half-hour early now to put
on all this artificial on all this artificial
stuff." stuff."
But I’m not going to worry But I’m not going to worry
about it, but we do worry about it, but we do worry
an awful lot about things. an awful lot about things.
And we even worry about And we even worry about
things in the past. things in the past.
See, the greatest act of See, the greatest act of
distrust you give to God is distrust you give to God is
when you worry about whether when you worry about whether
He forgave you this sin or He forgave you this sin or
that sin. When you look back and you When you look back and you
wonder, what did I make a wonder, what did I make a
mistake and maybe I mistake and maybe I
should’ve taken this turn or should’ve taken this turn or
that turn; we don’t trust that turn; we don’t trust
that even if I make a that even if I make a
mistake--because He loves me. mistake--because He loves me.
You see, love and trust go You see, love and trust go
together. together.
Because God loves me He Because God loves me He
will bring good out of will bring good out of
it when I trust Him. it when I trust Him.
Well, over here He tells us Well, over here He tells us
not to worry. not to worry.
That’s a lack of trust. That’s a lack of trust.
Some people are not happy Some people are not happy
unless they worry. unless they worry.
When there’s nothing to When there’s nothing to
worry about they worry worry about they worry
about the weather. about the weather.
It’s too dry, too wet, It’s too dry, too wet,
too cold, too hot. too cold, too hot.
They just have an They just have an
inclination to worry. inclination to worry.
But see, worry has nothing But see, worry has nothing
to do with it. to do with it.
We can be concerned about a We can be concerned about a
loved one who’s ill. loved one who’s ill.
And the Lord is saying here, And the Lord is saying here,
"Look at the birds in the "Look at the birds in the
sky." sky."
I don’t think anybody I don’t think anybody
understands this story here. understands this story here.
"They don’t sow or reap." "They don’t sow or reap."
Now, He’s not saying you Now, He’s not saying you
shouldn’t go out and get a shouldn’t go out and get a
job and earn a living. job and earn a living.
There has to be in the There has to be in the
center of your soul a total center of your soul a total
trust in God, action in the trust in God, action in the
present moment. present moment.
We can’t always understand We can’t always understand
what God does. what God does.
And seldom do we understand And seldom do we understand
why. why.
And goes on here and he And goes on here and he
says, "If God takes care of says, "If God takes care of
the birds, how much more the birds, how much more
will He take care of you, will He take care of you,
men of little faith?" men of little faith?"
I think that is whole I think that is whole
problem of trust. problem of trust.
We’re not to sure God will We’re not to sure God will
take care of us. take care of us.
Now you say, "Well I’ve got Now you say, "Well I’ve got
to be responsible. to be responsible.
I can’t be presumptuous." I can’t be presumptuous."
Oh, we’re not talking about Oh, we’re not talking about
presumption. presumption.
You work hard, you exercise You work hard, you exercise
your talent, you make a your talent, you make a
living, but there’s an living, but there’s an
element of uncertainty element of uncertainty
in everybody’s life. in everybody’s life.
And there’s where you have And there’s where you have
to trust the Lord. to trust the Lord.
No certainty in the lives No certainty in the lives
of youth, uncertainty in of youth, uncertainty in
the lives of the aged, the lives of the aged,
conditions, the world, conditions, the world,
all this tend towards all this tend towards
uncertainty and that’s uncertainty and that’s
where you’ve got to trust where you’ve got to trust
the Lord. the Lord.
"I’m doing my best, Lord," "I’m doing my best, Lord,"
and be at peace. and be at peace.
That’s what our Lord is That’s what our Lord is
saying here. saying here.
He says, "Set your hearts on He says, "Set your hearts on
His kingdom first." His kingdom first."
Uno numero--"First on His Uno numero--"First on His
Holiness, everything else Holiness, everything else
will be added." will be added."
It doesn’t mean that I’m It doesn’t mean that I’m
just gonna sit here and then just gonna sit here and then
everything is going to work. everything is going to work.
You see, that’s not what You see, that’s not what
he’s talking about. he’s talking about.
And that’s not what happens. And that’s not what happens.
It’s that inner distrust-- It’s that inner distrust--
does God love me? does God love me?
Has forgiven me? Has forgiven me?
Does He really forget? Does He really forget?
You know in that beautiful You know in that beautiful
parable our Lord talked parable our Lord talked
about the prodigal son. about the prodigal son.
There was a form of trust in There was a form of trust in
the prodigal son that the the prodigal son that the
elder son didn’t have. elder son didn’t have.
He had squandered his money. He had squandered his money.
But he said, "I’ll go home But he said, "I’ll go home
and be a servant to my and be a servant to my
father." father."
He had humility. He had humility.
He had repentance, but he He had repentance, but he
trusted that his father trusted that his father
would take him as a servant. would take him as a servant.
And the father did anything And the father did anything
but that. but that.
He had a big party. He had a big party.
And you see it took trust And you see it took trust
on the faith of the boy, on the faith of the boy,
otherwise he would never otherwise he would never
have gone home. have gone home.
There are some children There are some children
listening to me tonight. listening to me tonight.
Some teenagers--where you Some teenagers--where you
are now you don’t belong. are now you don’t belong.
You should go home. You should go home.
Trust your parents. Trust your parents.
Trust their love for you. Trust their love for you.
Go home. Go home.
Trust your friends. Trust your friends.
They love you. They love you.
They care for you. They care for you.
Don’t beat your head Don’t beat your head

You don’t need to do that. You don’t need to do that.
Go home and trust. Go home and trust.
If we don’t begin to trust If we don’t begin to trust
each other we don’t begin to each other we don’t begin to
trust in God, then we have trust in God, then we have
nothing. nothing.

despair. despair.
Some people say, "Well, I did Some people say, "Well, I did
trust and I got burned." trust and I got burned."
No. No.
You didn’t get burned. You didn’t get burned.
Sometimes we trust we’re Sometimes we trust we’re
going to get what we want. going to get what we want.
That’s where we get burnt. That’s where we get burnt.
Did you ever do that? Did you ever do that?
You know, I look back You know, I look back
on my life now. on my life now.
Am I glad God didn’t answer Am I glad God didn’t answer
some of my prayers. some of my prayers.
And I think there are a lot And I think there are a lot
of people out there that are of people out there that are
glad God didn’t answer some glad God didn’t answer some
of my prayers. of my prayers.
That’s where our trust That’s where our trust
comes in. comes in.
We’ve always had these We’ve always had these
illusions said, "If I had illusions said, "If I had
made that decision this made that decision this
would have happened." would have happened."
No. No.
We must trust in the Lord We must trust in the Lord
that whatever it is right that whatever it is right
now I must, I must act now I must, I must act
with it. with it.
I must deal with it. I must deal with it.
You see this is a beautiful You see this is a beautiful
book called, "Jesus Appeals book called, "Jesus Appeals
to the World". to the World".
It’s a kind of unknown nun. It’s a kind of unknown nun.
Her name is Consolata Her name is Consolata
Betrone. Betrone.
There’s another one called There’s another one called
Beninou Consolata, but this Beninou Consolata, but this

Betrone and her great Betrone and her great
mission was to bring mission was to bring
trust to the world. trust to the world.
And what did the Lord’s say? And what did the Lord’s say?
He says, "Have confidence He says, "Have confidence
and trust Me always. and trust Me always.
Have blind confidence." Have blind confidence."
Isn’t that wonderful what Isn’t that wonderful what
God wants me to do? God wants me to do?
"That I will fulfill all My "That I will fulfill all My
promises to you." promises to you."
God has promised us a God has promised us a
kingdom. kingdom.
He promised His spirit He promised His spirit
and He sent Him. and He sent Him.
He promised if we trusted He promised if we trusted
Him he would take care of us. Him he would take care of us.
"I am kind, immensely kind, "I am kind, immensely kind,
I am merciful and I desire I am merciful and I desire
the holiness and salvation the holiness and salvation
of the wicked, not their of the wicked, not their

Some of you out there Some of you out there
listening to me tonight listening to me tonight
haven’t been to Confession haven’t been to Confession
in years. in years.
And you say, "I’m not gonna And you say, "I’m not gonna
go and confess my sins to go and confess my sins to
some man." some man."
You confess them with the You confess them with the
guy next to you at the bar. guy next to you at the bar.

Right? Right?
When you’re drunk you When you’re drunk you
confess them to everybody. confess them to everybody.
You tell your neighbor your You tell your neighbor your
sins. sins.
You go and pay $50 an hour You go and pay $50 an hour
to some psychiatrist. to some psychiatrist.
So don’t give me that stuff So don’t give me that stuff
--you don’t tell your sins --you don’t tell your sins
to a man. to a man.
You tell them to people who You tell them to people who
have no authority from God have no authority from God
to forgive them. to forgive them.
And then they leave you and And then they leave you and
then everybody knows in the then everybody knows in the
neighborhood knows exactly neighborhood knows exactly
what you did. what you did.
Now does that make sense Now does that make sense
to you? to you?

That doesn’t make any sense. That doesn’t make any sense.
And those very people won’t And those very people won’t
go to Confession. go to Confession.
On a logical level it On a logical level it
doesn’t make any sense. doesn’t make any sense.
And what the Lord is saying, And what the Lord is saying,
"I have given you a source "I have given you a source
of absolute total of absolute total
forgiveness and freedom." forgiveness and freedom."
I have to trust. I have to trust.
Let’s see what else the Let’s see what else the

It’s saying, "I love you It’s saying, "I love you
dearly no matter what faults dearly no matter what faults

That’s a kind of little That’s a kind of little

How can I be? How can I be?
How will I know whether it’s How will I know whether it’s
from Him or if it’s just me? from Him or if it’s just me?

the Holy Spirit wants to the Holy Spirit wants to

very quickly. very quickly.
Sometimes when we speak on our own we have to figure our own we have to figure
out what we’re going to say out what we’re going to say
and when we’re going to say and when we’re going to say
and who’s going to miss Him. and who’s going to miss Him.
And I think you have to And I think you have to
test it. test it.
You need somebody in that You need somebody in that
prayer group that can test prayer group that can test
the Word before you say it. the Word before you say it.
And that’s something that And that’s something that
St. Paul said we should St. Paul said we should
always trust. always trust.
Test the word of knowledge, Test the word of knowledge,
because you don’t know. because you don’t know.
First of all there’s this First of all there’s this
word. word.
Is it something that’s going Is it something that’s going
to lift the soul up to God? to lift the soul up to God?
If its condemnation I would If its condemnation I would
never think it was from the never think it was from the
Spirit. Spirit.
We need to be very careful. We need to be very careful.
And if when I feel the Lord And if when I feel the Lord
wants me to say is something wants me to say is something
that’s going to lift someone that’s going to lift someone
up, something’s going to up, something’s going to
bring them closer to the bring them closer to the
Lord, then. Lord, then.
And sometimes the Spirit And sometimes the Spirit
corrects, but it’s always corrects, but it’s always
with love and gentleness. with love and gentleness.
But in all things, you need But in all things, you need
to check that word and that to check that word and that
spirit with somebody in your spirit with somebody in your
prayer group who is a man or prayer group who is a man or
woman of God so that they woman of God so that they
can discern. can discern.
That’s the gift of counsel. That’s the gift of counsel.
And if you ask the Spirit And if you ask the Spirit
to give you the gift of to give you the gift of
counsel, He’d be glad. counsel, He’d be glad.
He’s always ready to give. He’s always ready to give.

Sometimes you pray and you Sometimes you pray and you
feel like dry bones. feel like dry bones.
Do you ever do that? Do you ever do that?
You don’t feel like You don’t feel like
praying, right? praying, right?
And what do you do when you And what do you do when you
don’t feel like praying? don’t feel like praying?

You keep praying, right? You keep praying, right?
Well, that’s exactly what Well, that’s exactly what
God wants. God wants.
You see that gives Him You see that gives Him
comfort. comfort.
Sometimes we think God ought Sometimes we think God ought
to give me all the to give me all the
consolation. consolation.
Actually I have to console Actually I have to console
Him. Him.
I have a very short span of I have a very short span of
life we call time, and in life we call time, and in
this time frame I must this time frame I must
become holy, I must love become holy, I must love
God, I must love my God, I must love my
neighbor, and I must do neighbor, and I must do
all I can to obtain the all I can to obtain the
salvation of my neighbor. salvation of my neighbor.
That’s God’s will for me. That’s God’s will for me.
It’s also God’s will for It’s also God’s will for
you. you.
We’re all evangelists. We’re all evangelists.

We’re all of that. We’re all of that.
We’ve all been asked by God We’ve all been asked by God
to go out and spread the to go out and spread the
Good News. Good News.
And darkness and aridity, And darkness and aridity,
desolation of spirit, is desolation of spirit, is
the hardest time to trust. the hardest time to trust.
But it’s the most perfect But it’s the most perfect
time. time.
I talked to a man who I talked to a man who
spent seven years in a spent seven years in a
concentration camp. concentration camp.
A Navy man, captain A Navy man, captain
of a ship. of a ship.
And after he was released And after he was released
he said something I’ve never he said something I’ve never
forgotten. forgotten.
He said, "Mother, I hate to He said, "Mother, I hate to
say this, but I feel that say this, but I feel that
somehow I lost something I somehow I lost something I
had in prison. had in prison.
"After the beatings and "After the beatings and
after the interrogation after the interrogation
day after day, I got so day after day, I got so
close to God. close to God.
"The darkness was horrible," "The darkness was horrible,"
but he said, "I prayed and but he said, "I prayed and
I felt this overwhelming I felt this overwhelming
presence sometimes in all presence sometimes in all
this darkness and heartache this darkness and heartache
and frustration." and frustration."
And see sometimes success And see sometimes success
in the world kind of snuffed in the world kind of snuffed
that out and we forgot God. that out and we forgot God.
That’s why I always say that That’s why I always say that
my braces and my pain and my my braces and my pain and my
difficulties are God’s gift difficulties are God’s gift
to me. to me.

Because I cannot forget God, Because I cannot forget God,
I must think of Him in order I must think of Him in order
to work, to walk, to laugh, to work, to walk, to laugh,
to smile, because I have to to smile, because I have to

You know the one that was You know the one that was
criticizing didn’t love criticizing didn’t love

But when you notice that But when you notice that
Mary Magdalen is a perfect Mary Magdalen is a perfect
example of someone who was example of someone who was
forgiven much, loved in forgiven much, loved in
return for that forgiveness return for that forgiveness

We just take forgiveness We just take forgiveness

And our Dear Lord keeps And our Dear Lord keeps
saying to this beautiful saying to this beautiful
nun, "Give me the joy of nun, "Give me the joy of
hearing you say, ’Jesus I hearing you say, ’Jesus I
place all my trust in you.’" place all my trust in you.’"
Isn’t that wonderful, Isn’t that wonderful,
to think I can give joy to think I can give joy

incident when I woke up one incident when I woke up one
night with a knife at my night with a knife at my

And I prayed to the angels And I prayed to the angels
to surround me. to surround me.
Well, thank God after the Well, thank God after the
assault, he left. assault, he left.
And friends were talking to And friends were talking to

one thing regarding the one thing regarding the
physical trauma was I don’t physical trauma was I don’t
trust anyone nowadays, trust anyone nowadays,
if they come to the door, if they come to the door,
"Who are you? "Who are you?

And it’s taken a long And it’s taken a long
time. time.
I don’t think I really quite I don’t think I really quite
got over that trauma. got over that trauma.
I’m not as free and not as I’m not as free and not as
open to people now. open to people now.
My friendly, outgoing nature My friendly, outgoing nature
was something special to me. was something special to me.
Mother: Well, that’s a very, Mother: Well, that’s a very,
very difficult thing. I think we have to start I think we have to start
with forgiveness. with forgiveness.
There are some things in There are some things in
our life that are just so our life that are just so
horrible, so traumatic horrible, so traumatic
that there is almost an that there is almost an
instantaneous sense of instantaneous sense of
fear. fear.
And I want you to get rid of And I want you to get rid of
that fear. that fear.
I understand you’re I understand you’re
cautious. cautious.
I think that’s natural. I think that’s natural.
But tonight I want you to But tonight I want you to
put that terrible incident put that terrible incident
and we don’t know why. and we don’t know why.
You see, God, when He gave us You see, God, when He gave us
free will, you and I and free will, you and I and
everybody, He gave us the everybody, He gave us the
opportunity to do good opportunity to do good
and evil. and evil.
Many times we are the Many times we are the
victims of someone’s bad victims of someone’s bad
decisions or evil decisions or evil
intentions. intentions.
And when that happens I And when that happens I
think God has a special think God has a special
grace for all those victims. grace for all those victims.
Society doesn’t always care Society doesn’t always care
about the victims. about the victims.
I don’t know why. I don’t know why.
We’ve gotten so hard We’ve gotten so hard
sometimes, so calloused, we sometimes, so calloused, we
don’t always see the trauma don’t always see the trauma
of someone being raped. of someone being raped.
And that trauma has to be And that trauma has to be
down deep in the soul. down deep in the soul.
But when we become victims But when we become victims
of that kind of thing I of that kind of thing I
think that when you go to think that when you go to
Heaven that great day we Heaven that great day we
call death there’s going to call death there’s going to
be a special grace, a be a special grace, a
special gift, a special special gift, a special
crown, a special joy for crown, a special joy for
the injustice that was the injustice that was
done to you. done to you.
God never allows anything to God never allows anything to
happen to us that there happen to us that there
isn’t something very good isn’t something very good
when we trust Him. when we trust Him.
We can never excuse We can never excuse
something like that. something like that.
We can never justify it. We can never justify it.
We have to call a spade a We have to call a spade a
spade. spade.
It’s terrible. It’s terrible.
Its wrong. Its wrong.
It’s horrible, but God It’s horrible, but God
somehow in that wondrous somehow in that wondrous
land we call eternity of land we call eternity of
Heaven, will bring it Heaven, will bring it

And when you die you’ll look And when you die you’ll look
and say, "I never knew that and say, "I never knew that
this terrible injustice this terrible injustice
would get me this great would get me this great

human beings and we’re going human beings and we’re going

someone that’s very ill or I someone that’s very ill or I
listen to somebody’s listen to somebody’s
problems, that I see Jesus. problems, that I see Jesus.
I live in a monastery, so I live in a monastery, so
every hour a bell rings, you every hour a bell rings, you
know, that would set you know, that would set you
crazy. But you have other things But you have other things
that set you crazy, like that set you crazy, like
you’re taking care of you’re taking care of
one patient and then one patient and then
there’s an emergency. there’s an emergency.
There are little times in There are little times in
your life that you can set your life that you can set
as opportunities to make a as opportunities to make a
short act of love, when you short act of love, when you
go from room to room. go from room to room.
Say "Jesus I love You." Say "Jesus I love You."
Give your entire day to Give your entire day to
the Lord. the Lord.
I say something every I say something every
morning, and I’ll share it morning, and I’ll share it

It kind of helps me. It kind of helps me.

part of the body, the soul, part of the body, the soul,
the mind, that no one else the mind, that no one else
sees. sees.
And we have to trust that And we have to trust that
Jesus knows and He does that Jesus knows and He does that
somehow you know the Cure of somehow you know the Cure of
Ars, a great man I love so Ars, a great man I love so
much, from France; a woman much, from France; a woman
went to him just feeling went to him just feeling
just like you do. just like you do.
And she was crying about her And she was crying about her
husband who threw himself off a bridge and committed off a bridge and committed
