well hey there folks and welcome to another episode of Bubba and through outdoors I am your host Wade rush I've heard from a lot of folks just just curious as big as the as the buckshot loading part of this channel has been or has turned into a lot of folks are wondering why in the world that ever get started in that mess when was it how long ago was it and and how did we progress through it well I'm gonna put something together for you guys and show you where it all started stand by folks had all started back on around between 2001 la or into 2002 at that time I was I'd already been experimenting with the some double-aught buckshot that I had a bag leftover from the 70s that I had and I had experimented with loading with a few but didn't have a whole lot of success just didn't know anything about it and there was not a lot of information or any information out there yet on this type of loading so somewhere around in 2001 to 2002 I picked up this little two cavity lead mold this is a 31 caliber black-powder mold and I wish I had a penny for every pellet that I molded out of this thing it makes a 31 cow ball very nice makes them two at a time and my whole still works great makes two at a time and country boy and captain buster killed a pile of deer with those 31 caliber pellets right there over the years I met up with a gentleman from Kansas named mr. Richard plank and found him on gun broker and I ordered this 31 cowl mold right here from sharpshooter USA and I think at that time they were $35 apiece like $6 flat-rate shipping whenever I ordered this mold and this you know 20 pellets at a time that was a huge step up from only making two pellets at a time and being that I wanted some double all this is the first double aught mold I got from Rick right here and as you can see well-worn it is the original mold thousands and thousands and thousands of pellets made and it still works great and then as Rick and I conversed more he wanted me to try a 32 caliber sing-along it said that that was one of his best performers and so I picked that up and it all started from there folks this is the original 10-pound pot that I got from Leake precision back in 2005 or 2006 it may have been earlier than that cuz I when I first got it I wasn't molten buckshot with I was making fishing lead with it I'd gotten tired of the ladle on top of the stove stuff and we were making up our fishing lid and so I got me a production pot probably around oh four I'm guessing this is the original pipe this is the one that I replaced the element in replaced some parts and all that and fixed it start working the element burn up in it and we replaced the element and I got it working back to working again like I said from oh we're just gonna call it oh four fourteen twenty twenty just think 16 years old and you see where it lives it lives out here on top of a table outside of my my chicken bond but this it's up and running again and this is where it began right here this is where I started molding the buckshot in this little two cavity lemo old Hitler smoked some up ice-cold mold folks I just said it right just touch right any alloy just touch it in the alloy a few times and it don't take that block of aluminum long to get warmed up all right now let's see if I can hit this thing a lot of times I could just break it with my hands yeah break it loose with my hands and drop the sprue down on the table in front of me get one of my little wood knockers here yep see we got two good pellets did it right there on the right there on the boat and we dropped two great thirty-one caplets in there and you got to do that a bunch especially whenever you got a I've got rounds the most common of the one I like the best is a 16 pellet extended range round that we use the 31 Cal in and you so we got to do this eight times per round if we get to perfect size 31 Cal ball on each poor break down break the sprue loose dump it out on the table but when you get in a rhythm man and get that going quick you can go through a bunch when it gets when it gets too warm and it will get too warm I'll usually get me a rag like this right here folks I'll get me a rag like that I'll wet and just lay it here on the table and we'll just tap it on until it cools down enough start performing again I'll get to that point eventually over folks this brings back a lot of memories here been a long time it's been a long time since I've even missed with this old mold here as soon as it haze is over I just have it with my welding glue when it gets to we're really just working good sometimes I could just tap it with my hand whenever the mole gets up warm enough onward and upward I think that was four we ain't got the four more to go to get one round huh make sure it goes over to pens and [ __ ] closes up Lee does not design the moles like this anymore they have upgraded I'm like twice since I got this old mold a very long time ago old don't mean bad ain't that right jack my buddy Jack Middleton down in Waycross he knows exactly what I'm talking about don't you brother Jack those fell right out getting warm enough now when you crack it open they'll fall right out and you practice to find out you don't have to make a big mess oh come on right now there we go so you don't need a stick when it gets warm enough but sometimes like old Bob Ross if you ever watched him paint his favorite part was getting to beat the brush on the table just take out a little bit of frustration sometimes I think we may have just made enough to make one round no maybe a little bit when it works like that [Music] now you see now I know we got enough in there for one round now how ecstatic was I whenever I found this 20 pellets at a time ice-cold mole picked it right up off the table now this was the cool thing about this thing now as long I've got the I got the leaf pot set on seven alloy is screaming hot it's a warm day ascended low 80s out here today in the Midlands of South Carolina all right here we go five slots two pellets each t in there I have beat I have done all kinds of ways of extracting this folks I'll take my little knocker I have tapped on these moles tap either side like that to break this thing loose starting to break loose now then you can either take your screwdriver and pop it on open like that I'm looking at it right now and I made 20 good pellets on the first hole okay let it cool off there we go and I'm trying to hold this here so you good folks can see what I'm doing all right and they don't take they don't take this aluminum block long the warm up whenever you're pouring 20 pellets screaming hot alloy at a time here and this is just straight up we'll wait alloy now y'all washed it see there's just there's two pellets in one cavity I was ecstatic whatever I found this mold see what crack it get it started I've had people tell me that that mold was gonna break in no time well it hasn't and I still really abuse it and it just keeps going Rick was building these things he was over building them before you know you realize you charge more and build them cheap he just didn't know no butter he was building them like a tank him and his son gone good folks I really wish they'd start making them again a lot of folks out there wish they'd start making them again and I know they watch the videos I miss you guys a lot gotta tell you what Marty over him all his arms he makes a dang good mold too and the warmer gets the more easier if they start breaking apart so you got it loose on both sides right here like that then we start then we're able to just do that I think that was my third pole with this really starts breaking loose easy I'm gonna kind of step it up and do this like y'all ain't here like I'm just doing this for me to get my stock back up and when my pipe gets down about a quarter of the way it's time to add more alloy but I'm fortunate enough I've got a 20-pound pi2 and so I just keep going I also got ripped to send me another 30 1k off because I made you so much 31 caliber I made so much 31 caliber that way if I got get them old too hot I could just set it down and grab the other one and keep going that's cool lining service fee miss Joann comes out hence its Weidman kind of like she brings me stuff to drink sits out here in Meeks make sure that I don't do something stupid get hurt or anything like that she's a certified nursing assistant which is good to be married to me to have those kind of credentials even loosened up and now we're rolling and I'm not getting hard well you see I'm just tapping it just happened I got electrical tape on here look at how I'm holy been marking the electrical tape that's how light I'm getting this mold oh my god all this stuff loose just tap it on both sides there it comes everything coming out here that lid sizzling like the water drop it because I'll like these pellets hard they stay rounder do the firing process whenever they're hard when they're really soft the terminal performance is better because just like a regular bullet assault buckshot pill that will mushroom out whenever it impacts a target these pellets on mushroom out they impact a harder target as bone or something like that yeah this is this is therapy for me that was the step up from a 2 cavity Li mold to Ric's sharpshooter USA 20 pellet mold [Music] that's what you do with your sprue I was sniffing all this last night there's some times I may not ever put it on put a wheel weight ingot in here I just be reusing screw over and over and over again the folks unfortunately not quite yet Marty hasn't gotten me a hadn't got me a 33 caliber yet I would love to get my hands on one so I could do all three of them and we're going to do that in a future video what I'm going to do is we're going to take the two all the pellets from all the molds I have that make the same size pellets and then we're going to arm take them down to the range and see if there's any difference depending on what mode they come out of that ought to be fine Lee where they call the Lee commercial 33 caliber double-walled shut it up good and tight make sure this on the pins good and shut up this is an old one they leave his updated it they put a lot of cross hatch machine work on these things to help air bleed out of it butter and all that the lord knows I have made a pile of double our poets using this molar okay I haven't heated it up any at all so we're gonna like I said I just touch this alloy leaning over and here just a little bit to just touch that alloy and that aluminum block will heat up fast with this hot alloy see it don't stick to the bottom that's already getting hot let me see if I got this is just right we do let's see what happens now the Li makes 18 pellets a pop come run off and you just hit the hit the bolt on the handles here and this proof sprue comes right loose now let's see what we got oh yeah we made several got several goobers it's right on the bolt on the handle drops right out that was very first pour with a mold I warmed up in alloy just like that tap on the boat right here on the handle sprue comes right loose don't that work good I was looking on Lee's website the other day and I think these things are around 70 bucks for the mold that doesn't include the handles the handles are part number nine at triple zero five nine triple zero five and they usually run they retail around 20 bucks for the handles and I think they will fit Lee and they'll fit Lyman molds as well 20 pounds rip him old old 20 pound drippy pot I'm sorry to mold angry parties as soon as it haze is over we can move and then it's just a matter getting after it and this can happen fast in a short amount of time once you get in the rhythm folks and get a nice little pile down there and we just throw that back in the pot all right one more time with mr. Li and we'll I'll show you how to sharpshooter works it makes twenty makes twenty pellets at a time they all have their pluses and minuses say the Li takes the sprue off right there right off the bat but okay ladies what is the book you can already see it and you guys that have some experience with the Li molds already know what it is we've got to separate the pellets but I'll demonstrate that for you guys again here shortly I like a cutting board with a with a box cutter I think Lee likes that idea as well I think that's how they demonstrate on their site that they recommend to do that as well alright let's get the old Sharpshooter 33 cow mold and mold up a few with that taking the least fruit going right back in the pot sharpshooter 33 Cal that's a very old mold ice-cold just picked it up off the bench [Music] [Music] let's see how we did very well-seasoned broken in mold how did we do we got to that 3/4 we got a one there that didn't feel all the way that one didn't feel all the way that one didn't and that one didn't but we got 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 15 16 17 of 20 here on 1 2 3 4 16 of 20 on the first pole see how easy that stuff falls out of there folks with a well-seasoned mould so you're space on both sides it's already coming loose real easy most of those look good one on that string - so eight good ones on that string and - eight good ones on that string and once it warms up they'll all feel probably by this poll here if I was just just if I was just molding a book shot and not waffling on then it would probably already be making 2004 just twist that pedal and you vile it's just dirty 20 good news on that one nope I'm sorry like 19 anyway we are making some beautiful double-aught buckshot double-aught is the most popular without a doubt is the most popular on that molding I got hold up the hinges on this thing Akkad Almighty probably several years ago remember last time I've had to make double-aught buckshot so it's been a long time and I use automotive paola it's air-conditioned and it's a high temp air-conditioned at all and it works great on these molds it gets on there it's a little bit sticky it stays put see it shiny right there all right well like I said the the Li drops it out in strings of three and depending on how the the strings come out here with the Sharpshooter you use a flush cutter to cut the sprue off flush with each pellet the the dimensions are virtually identical you can mix them all up and around if you wanted to they're all 33 caliber regular box cutter this is old cheap stanley box cutter i think this is how leigh suggests get your your book shot right here you just put it on your cutting board like this right here and just apply a little bit of pressure rolling it and put it right there in the middle i cook to keep it from going across the room put a little pressure on it and buckshot is separated like that now here's a pair of flush cutters that I have modified on the bench grinder here is the unmodified you'll see the difference in the thickness they're way thinner Gotti's cut really really thin especially right there on the tee up the reason I did that just do trial and error and see just how thin that tip is right there and I what we can do now instead of having to go through this cutting board rolling it and all that I can take it and just take the tip see the very tip of the flush cutters right there just a very tip and look at that now ain't got a lot easier than rolling that around on the on on the cutting board let's demonstrate that again see uncut just take the very tip of your flush cutters like that we've modified cut cut look at that I think that's way easier folks and five six seven dollars depending on where you are in the country for that in the craft department at Walmart it's well worth it you have one modified way to think about it is see here's the Sharpshooter that we have to cut off with a flush cutter I can take my modified cutter steel just lay up flush like that and that's doing screwed and there's your pellets one more time even with the modified one so you can use it for both [Music] and there you go well folks I hope y'all enjoyed that little trip back in time of where all this got started and what it has progressed to I'd like to thank all of the folks out there that have helped over the years to get to this point Rick Don plank that although they're not making these molds anymore they were a very big contributing factor in all of the development that I had done over the years and then when all of that kind of went south on these guys then newcomer Marty with Marty's arms stepped up and now he's making some awesome buckshot molds round ball molds and virtually any dimension that you want you can go to his site i'ma leave a link down here that has it has bubble round tree in the link and when you see that you know that you're going to get 10% off your order whenever you order from Marty's site okay folks hope y'all enjoyed this video we'll be making a lot more soon we got to do some shooting but I got to get these boys together we got to get some weather we got bad weather moving in on us right now and so I got to get this thing wrapped up y'all stay safe take care be blessed in Jesus name that no sickness or plague will come now your dwelling this is wade with the BR o channel we'll see you know Popeye [Music] you
