[Music] yep the bottom cow is in heat so this morning we're going to go ahead and either it's always the cow that's jumping on top the cow that's standing still underneath she's the one that's in heat and that's how you know when to breed a cow if you just breed them randomly if they're not in heat they're not going to get pregnant so you have to catch them when they're in heat and we have the activity collars and when cows are in heat you can see they're jumping a lot more and they're just generally running around the barn a lot more and the activity calls actually let us know when they're doing that but we used to always only do it visually i saw my dad always did in the old barn he would just go a couple times a day check for cows and eat and look for exactly that so you have to keep a really good eye on your herd and it's easier if you're milking less cows but a lot of guys still do that just visually inspect for heat and yeah you got to watch for those cows that are standing still underneath another cow but um yeah we're just getting milking going this morning here and i wanted to get the heater that we just bought going again we've been trying to throw out this mandoor it's been taking longer than we thought it would so we didn't want to let this thing run overnight because there is a flame in there i figured it's not that safe turn it off overnight but we'll get it going again this morning here since people are going to be here all day so let's get it cooking [Music] it's supposed to be really simple to turn on really just the on switch apparently and it should just fire up automatically e1 what does that mean okay so this heater didn't start up here and it's got a little display it says e1 and then it's got some error codes here which is pretty cool so it says e1 empty fuel tank or photocell failure poor combustion failed ignition so that's most likely what happened because i saw the fan start up it just never actually lit so it probably just the failed ignition everything else looked to be good i don't know if we're gonna get this thing going here this morning we'll have to let our mechanic look at it i gotta get back to the parlor right away here but that's unfortunate we'll give it one more go here turn it off turn it back on i'm gonna go back to the parlor and milk some cows so this morning when i rolled up to the farm there was a milk truck parked out in front of the barn and it was a b train i was just sitting there i quickly went and checked the tank i was like oh man i hope the milk is picked up otherwise we have to wait to start again and luckily the milk was picked up but he's been sitting out front there and it looks like there's a tow truck out front there and they actually brought another truck out as well switching the trucks around on the tank and i guess the one truck just kind of quit working on them started having an air leak so that's really unfortunate so they just swap the trucks around get the milk out to the plant so i got the two trucks out there go and check it out that's a pretty big tow truck [Applause] i think this looks sweet [Applause] [Music] that is such a sweet tow truck it's pretty unfortunate but so i guess they got the tail lights on the front of this truck because it's going to be towed back so they're still going to have the brake lights and signal lights on there so i was just outside there filming those trucks my hands are freezing cold best way to warm them up when we're in the parlor here is to stick your hand in between their utter and their leg and your hand will be warm in about .5 seconds so warm works pretty good dairy farmers hand warmer right there [Music] um [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] ah i just checked the milk tank to make sure it's cooling and you can see it's at 10 degrees right there that is not good it's fine if we're milking and it's at like four or five degrees it's understandable when the milk comes out of the couch at 37 degrees it goes through the plate cooler and the basement gets down to about 10 degrees and then once it gets into this tank the cooler should cool it down right down to one degree celsius but there's just a little bit of milk in there the first milk that went in the tank was from this morning's milking and it says it's cooling but it should be lower than 10 degrees i just know this from looking at it at other milking so i went outside here it is cold so i went outside here to check out the coolers these are the two condensing units for the refrigeration on the milk tank they should be spinning there's radiators in there it should be cooling the tank those fans should both be blasting away especially when the tank is at 10 degrees so i don't think these things are working right now unfortunately um it was you can see the green and yellow lights there but i'm gonna call my dad let him know but um that's not good this cold messes everything up hey um i checked out the milk tank and it's at 10 degrees celsius right now so it should be cooling and the green light says it's cooling on the milk tank but neither one of the condensing units outside neither of the fans is going so i don't think it's actually cooling oh we'll just point that heater at it then no it doesn't work i tried starting it this morning again twice and uh it still didn't work so it says there's a coat on there it's probably the um spark plug that's in there all right so we got that diesel heater that's in the bar in there um obviously it's not working because i tried to start it this morning i just talked to dad he thinks maybe it's cold so i'm gonna take it from the main cow barn i'm gonna wheel it in right behind the ball tank here this is probably the warmest room because that vacuum pump is constantly running during milking time making it super warm in here so if we roll that heater in here let it warm up hopefully it'll start up and then we can point it at those condensing units warm them up and that should get them going hopefully so uh i'm gonna bust this door open here and grab that heater it's about to get real cold still really warm in here so hopefully the diesel in there warms up and if we're lucky it'll fire right up there we go so we got a smaller heater pointed it out the condenser here thawed it out and it just started going it doesn't take much to cool that tank now with how cold it is out here so [Music] there's a cold morning to be shipping steers that's for sure that's the truck steers are all sorted out in the pens we're gonna get her loaded here they'll be pretty warm with the truck all huddled together so let's get rightly looking truck all right we got 38 of them on the truck 40 weren't gonna fit so two are lucky winners or i don't know if they're so lucky because these guys are going to a warmer place so maybe those ones that stay back are not so lucky but sweet alright guys while the gopro didn't hold out while i was loading those steers so unfortunately i couldn't film any of it we got 38 on the truck uh there's a couple taller steers they have a doghouse where they want to fit three steers usually they got to be short their backs were rubbing so we didn't put any up there just left that part um empty left them here on the farm and they can go the next time it is what it is so but we got the truck nicely loaded and um that's good so i guess back to the tank now it is at three degrees celsius so thawing that one cooler out with the heater this morning worked out pretty good now the milk is cooling down it'll be one degree pretty quickly here in a couple of minutes so we're just really lucky that our plate cooler does such a good job cooling milk straight into the tank otherwise you know it wouldn't be so good but since we have that plate cooler this is no problem at all uh the milk is going to be 100 perfectly fine so yeah good all right so we are putting bedding in the corels this afternoon me and dad it's pretty cold again i brought the axe with me though just so that i can hack uh ice away from the water bowl so i know there's one that's getting pretty tight it's one thing to keep the water bowls thawed out so that there's actually liquid water in the water bowl but it's another thing to keep the ice off of the water bowls now it'll build up so much and quick enough that the cow won't actually be able to stick their head through the hole anymore and actually get at that nice warm water so that's why i got the axe got some safety goggles on and we're gonna have adder with this thing and try and open up some water bowls most of them aren't actually that bad because we've been keeping on top of it but we're gonna go uh open a couple of them now that's less fun than it looks guys i promise you oh so we got our crowd gate fixed you guys can see it's no longer hanging at the front of the parlor there it's at the back and it's working the way it's supposed to be now basically those service guys came out and um they figured that there's a little switch right up there and um that was stuck so i guess that switch is triggered once it gets to the back so it quits backing up and if it's all the way at the front and that switch is stuck it's not gonna let the crowd get go back at all and that's what was wrong um so yeah kind of i never thought it would be that simple if you knew what it was it literally would have taken five seconds but it's fixed now which is awesome so we got the heater working again as well pointed at the main door again melted this man door out there used to be all ice there used to be hard to open up now it's just super easy which is awesome and this thing's just coming out the door here so it's working good again just a disgusting mess just because all the ice is melting a bit of feed gets mixed in cows flicking forward here and it just starts to look pretty disgusting real quick but it's just part of winter out here well that is uh going to be the end of today's video i'm going to put some footage at the end here of some deer we have a herd now of 40 45 deer that are kind of just bum and feed off of our silage pits heating up whatever scrap grain they can find around the yard that's pretty crazy i come right up to my parents house right up to the barn just walk everywhere around the entire farm and there's an insane amount of them we also have that tree field beside our yard here and i guess they like to go there just eat whatever they can find there's a lot of snow out in the field so they can't really find much else to eat i guess so they just have to come to our farm and steal the feed that we would otherwise give to the cows i might make an episode of the damage they've done to the farm how much speed they've eaten and that kind of thing but um for now i just flew my drone around filmed them a little bit and kind of figured you know what if they're going to be around here we might as well try and film them might be cool so that's what the last little bit of footage is going to be in today's episode but if you guys enjoyed today's video be sure to hit those like and subscribe buttons down below check out the instagram and tick tock
