Metal detecting in The Kingdom of Northumbria! Curios, coins and Kit and Caboodlers!

[Music] I mean hey hey very well done that's so cool and look in [Music] then it could be a homage oh I'm so pleased I'm so peaceful if your mom's just found an amazing basement [Music] oh I think this could be old [Music] so we're here with our metal detectors now and king of Buddhism never actually been metal detecting before so it's our first time and we're all very excited because we just this is the field of dreams and we never know what we're gonna find so yeah we'll see you on the first five oh wow so I just I just found this down here look it looks like it's praying look how cool that is lookin see it's all hands like in front of it and it's got to utilize actually it looks like a bead because it I think as a hole that runs through under your arms how cool we just saw I was putting the metal detector because we're gonna do a bit metal detecting I was just down here wow that could be something that could be something really really cool it is something really cool it could be old it could be something really old I don't know how old the praying monkey thing is Wow okay okay okay I from these two things not what the metal detector with my eyes on the way here and I've got a copper a square copper nail and this thing which I have no idea what it is got a hole in it it's kind of bullet shaped some kind of copper alloy that's even without the metal detector turned on mom was just showing K&C some basics of metal detecting because I've never tried it before well I've got our setup here if you're wondering what kind of metal detector s-something eighth Garrett ace or something so we've had this for some years now and we've had the one that we've had that one that they're using for many many years it's us a kid so that one's quite a bit older but um then not posh metal detectors queens maybe radix and I'll put this for sensitivity I think ok we'll give this a go and see what we find her if anything okay we've got our first proper signal and we've just took it out we just found it it's this thing here we have no idea what it is what is it is it a fitting off something maybe it's some kind of draw fitting or something crossed it up that could be something cool or maybe it's not cool that held on I'll wipe up on here just oh it's a padlock look it's a really tiny little padlock and it's crusted up because it's the eye and it's got like a copper alloy front to it look can you see it now oh yeah that's so cute I wonder how old it is yeah we're gonna go and choke will go and show the others have you guys found anything we found this excited it's like a little padlock it's got like a lot of fancy top and everything we found anything like that before maybe it's part it's off a treasure chest no it's not my treasure chest okay so it's time to continue this is just where we found the padlock lock key hole the oak huh I didn't even need that I didn't even need the metal detector for this ah it's just lying right there oh my god oh I think this could be old oh it's not hammered is it it's not hammered coin is it is it hammered coin I kind of see something around the edge something in the middle that could be really old that could be treasure ah I just picked the metal detector up again and I found it on the surface I can't believe it I'm a little bit speechless to be honest I think it's treasure I also just pulled up just sitting down here another really old pipe ball though I don't think the heel is on there sadly but it is very old 116 1700s look I just I I was swinging the metal detector and I just spotted this down here look it's a coin just stuck on the surface I have no idea it could it could be fairly modern like Victorian or something but still it's a coin it could be old yeah we can't really see what it is but it's a coin and that's what matters we don't need one this has been useless so far oh and mums just found something next to it I was it glass oh it's pretty look it's blue it's purple oh I like that ring it is a coin I can't believe it it's really nice and clear yeah nice and good I can't believe it I don't know I don't know rub it too much just in case another coin on the side I can't believe it look I've never found a coin with a metal detector and then BAM not on this field anyway I was crazy just found another two random metal objects I think that's kind of some kind of stud something and a bit of random tube not sure maybe a bullet but I'm gonna continue and find some more treasures I hope everyone's finding treasure I just spotted this I saw it it was kind of like upside down sticking out like that then I pulled it up and look at it it's the tiniest little bottle how sweet is that it's hole hasn't been hit by the plow it looks like it has gb on the bottom Great Britain I love it I'm gonna put my beads in there but it's such a good idea got my beads in here fill of my beads oh this has been a great day so far it's not over yet we've still got dam the foreshore to do actually oh this looks so exciting okay where I found the bottle was just behind me just on there so I haven't moved very far and okay if right if this is what I think it is I think it's a coin the signal was really nice and look in there it's really thin it could be a Hamid coin what if it was i hurt--was a Hammond coin I would I would scream across the field please be a calling please be Howard coin it's probably not this probably just a random lump oh oh it's not a coin it's not going oh it's pretty though I think it's the lid off some kind of portal jar maybe some kind of sugar jar or something oh wow actually oh it's silver look actually I don't think it is it's the little something else how does ooh man zoom in can you see that look oh wow it's really pretty it's got flowers and leaves like hand engraved all over it being that way up I wonder what that is that's obviously hinge it's obviously hinged of something I can't really think what that's off oh I thought was a hammered coin but still that is treasure and it's most definitely silver I have no doubt that that is silver God Troy oh you know oh so much fun this thing this pinpointer carrot thing it's actually really handy that's great anyway I really want to go there and tell those guys but they're all the way over there and it takes ages to walk and metal detect the same type anyway sorry I'm really excited okay so I just pinpointed this little find listen okay and look it's a coin it's it's true it's very thin and it doesn't look like we're gonna get anything off it but you never know I'm gonna put my my pocket and leave it until it's dry so you can look at it properly at home this is so fun I'm so happy wonder if they found anything they look like they're coming over here if their mom's just found an amazing bit of Flint it's beautiful it's it is a beautiful piece of Flint I love it okay as found I had cheery wanted ahead and look she's found the cutest little head it's so cute oh well done I'm softly I'm so pleased for you Zanna you found a coin what'd you say oh it's gotta get my back home in the bullet oh my god see my glasses on it's tiny it could be Roman this is so much oh I think we found this one bear it looks like a conch you've got the edges a little cold or something okay what's a shotgun shell boring Wow I've lost count of how many Stovall poppers I found today though I really have it's been a good day for bottle stoppers [Music] this little back to the car look I want another car pal found laser cut model say but I thought oh it did have words on it anyway that we're gonna head off to the river now [Music] struggling to get off the field we've had an amazing time looking for treasures and we found some treasure yeah we found silver so it looks like an entire set of silver and quite a few coins and I found a little bottle and some monasteries anyway we can't wait to look at them again I know I keep saying that but it's always exciting when you get home when you wash them and you look at them all clean and shiny anyway it's really great time with kitten caboodle again and we're hoping to do something else now as well go and check out on the field and we haven't we didn't find very much because we weren't there for very long because we had the foreshore to do as well we had a lot to do in that day things to do that day so but we have found some quite interesting things there's a gremlin in the background there first of all think the first thing we found was this passing with brown with the metal sector was this and then I seem to think it's off a really old strongbox it's what people would have kept their money and important documents in back in the day and it slightly scratchin and still got the metal iron on the back yes we had iron banding or they were usually made of wood and clad with iron and some of them had really elaborate locks in the lids I can see the copper an oem keyhole escutcheon and yeah and the background there is lion so yeah that's likely what it was isn't it maybe the box is still there yeah full of treasure and still there there's a box of treasure in that field and this is the a sketch in the keyhole of it we've got random bits and bobs here that aren't very interesting they could be if we knew what they were I think that's some kind of that's some kind of stirred that's got some kind of screw thread and we screwed on the top onto the top of something that's like a little mini bit of pipe and this is a the top of an ice crew that's one of those possibly a coin it's got a hole in it not sure yeah and that's just the washer we have a mold old pipe ball an old pipe bowl you can actually see some of the milled edge there milling on the edge that's probably 16th century late 16 I don't know I think it might be 17th century it is a little bit bigger than the 16th century ones well that's quite small it is quite small actually yeah well that's that we've got to stop above us yeah whole 1zn whole ones is time and this has what does that say I can't read it it says whatever it says here something something I can't read it dark blue blue yes miss beautiful kind of beacon you can barely see it on the camera there it could be the ANA pocket RINO I got the creature the creature oh yeah yeah this is yeah it looks like a jar lid doesn't it the knob off a jar lid yeah I'd love to have seen the whole jar and here's a key yeah the remnant yeah part of icky 18th century more slate pants and pencil and school pencils you can see them sharpened on the ends there and a modern-day piece of psycho actually it has it has a little like planet on their little rocket flying around it hmm and then we've got this amazing little bottle that I found look how tiny and cute it is I've put I thought I could put my beads in but that the hole is a little bit might still be a little bit wet inside the bottle where I washed it yeah what was in it I like to think like opium was opium in here though drugs in here it says it says GB on the bottom so it can't be that old but you can see the seam kind of stops the neck it's a little bit Wibbly unruly and wobbly on top so it has an applied lip turn of the century kind of age because it's white as well and we've got one cup marble found one last cut marble and we've got mum found this tiny little toy soldier look at him disappeared inside the pipe [Music] [Laughter] casually stick it out there yeah we've been yeah we work outside today it's been a long day this is beautiful okay it's like half an agate nodule and it's these gorgeous little pink bands in it [Music] beautiful like agate oh this is Mohammed coin now it looks it looks alright cuz you could see on the edge it looked silvery and it was really thin and I was like this is it this is it this is where I find Mohammed coins that day was not that day to find my first hammered coin but I did find this beautiful lid and it is silver sterling silver and it's hand engraved with flowers and leaves and it is really beautiful actually I thought it might be a sand spreader or scatterer when in the 18th and 19th century when they wrote letters with ink they'd sprinkle some fine sand on to dry its quickly and that would be part of their little writing set a little ink bottle on one of those and yeah yeah I think that's probably right because at first I thought it might be off like an assault a little you have assaults Alice and because we've had them we've had them before with little lids on the top but there's nowhere for the spoon to kind of sit there's usually like a little groove in the side for like the spoon to sit yeah but there isn't that on this so I think that's like a little button that would have yeah we're through there so it would have closed flipped on yeah so I think it's part of it I think you might be right the writing as beautiful engravings on there look at that anyway I kind of flattened out and gave it a light polish oh yeah looks like it's out of a clock Kong may be out of a grandfather clock or something I think that's probably at 4 o'clock and here we have a little button can't really see the word what it says but it looks like a turn-of-the-century First World War type yeah yeah definitely before and we don't know what this is it's beautiful color as he rhenium glass so it glows under UV light could be this part of the stem of a glass yeah like a little little bud bars or something I like it anyway what about this this is my favorite I think it's a really beautiful piece of Flint it's a lovely example of Neolithic scraper you can see the little nap marks this would have been chipped off a bigger piece of Flint yeah you can just see the little chippings away at the edge then on the other side as well and yeah this is the natural outer coating of the V Flint nodule band and it's really look at it like that look how sharp it is it's still so sharp gorgeous gorgeous piece of friends it's so smooth and tactile I know but you could have been the first person who picked that up for however many thousands of years Wow wasted that's that amazing find tiny copper nail not very old but we like copper nails and that leaves the four coins yeah so and you can't really see anything yeah this one look they're gonna zoom in you can just about see H a LF they're mine and you just it's the only bit I can get out of that coin so that it's a half penny however old it is a penny look like a face I think one of them you can kind of see ahead I think this is one you can kind of see ahead it's very difficult it it kind of looks like it's really you can't see on the camera I'll see if I'm going to take a better picture of it the kind of looks like there's a head on there but got anything else this one I think is really quite old you can see like the border around the edge the border around the edge of it is quite wide so I don't know maybe it's like I have a feeling that one is particularly a little older but if anyone has any clue because this this one here is a halfpenny can pretty much tell that because it says half and half couldn't mean anything else so I think there's a halfpenny it's the same size the hot for a halfpenny as well yeah you can kind of see a head look kinda kind of see it and then and then there's that one but yeah they're in the pretty bad Nick but still a coin as a coin and there is great fun to find we've got the little monkey eye I found this randomly as I was putting the metal detector together it was upside down I thought was a bit of a funny shape and look at it a praying monkey so yeah you've heard of the three you know hear no evil see no evil no but it's usually like a hand across the mouth like you know I mean but that's that's hats hands they're praying they're in a praying position in front of it but I had a quick look on Google for praying monkey and I can't find any specific symbolism associated with yeah that it's just yeah maybe it's just got it's a lot of strange it just happened to look like it's praying and it's it's a it's speak no evil how look how dirty my fingernails are sorry about that everyone is we've been working up pretty hard in the garden today been digging a trench to put yes yeah we've been digging and planting seeds and everything no in the field actually we could take you for a quick look in our greenhouse but yeah I think that's it I think we've done it I love there actually forgot mention I think this is soapstone yeah so I think it's probably Victorian or turn-of-the-century kind of thing it could be modern I don't think yeah it might be a yeah it's yeah it's soapstone anyway so yeah that's it is that it we're tired okay it's been a long day we're not got my hat on because my hair is a huge mess yeah we're mum found and you can see all these lines and marks all over it do you want there that one's quite deep it actually almost looks like a star from that angle because you can see it there and there and across there and one there it's pretty battered and we had a few theories I think um it could be what um prehistoric people sharpen their flint tools on and that was one suggestion in the comments or it could just be marks where the plow is hit it so I don't know if you think differently or if you agree um if you agree it's for sharpening Flint's or if you think it's just been hit by a plow let us know below in the comments it'd be interesting to know if it well it we read lo it to be a flint sharpening to all there's a name for it but I'll put it up on the screen yeah let us know what you think of that this is our greenhouse well it's not really a greenhouse it's kind of like a polytunnel thing and we've been planting seeds we've been reusing like toilet roll um cardboard and milk cartons and things and we've weeded we've made this flagstone path and we did it all and then we've got all this left to do but yeah that's what we've been doing and then the chicken run in the front field so that's why my hands look
