[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] by the time of the fifth apparition on the 13th of September the little shepherds of Fatima had developed a deep spirituality Jacinta was to have visions of her own she saw the suffering Holy Father and asked why our lady did not show hell to everyone then all would believe and no one would go there to center season here's our lady but does not talk to her [Music] Francisco sees the apparitions of our lady but does not hear her Francisco developed a contemplative nature and like to pray alone the girls would often find him behind a wall or in the woods prostrate in prayer however the place he would most like to pray was by the tabernacle to the hidden Jesus to console him for our Lord was so sad because of the sins of man [Music] lúcia on the other hand was the only one of the seers to talk with our lady Lucia had been distressed by the disbelief of some of the people and she asked a lady to perform a miracle so that everyone would believe [Music] the operations really change the personalities of the three little shepherds Francisco for instance was very it was you would not be willing to fight for anything and is probably one of the strongest fighters for for the truthfulness of the operations and of course is the whole of dimension of contemplation and adoration is is reinforced in his name Jacinta was very self-centered she's probably the one that illustrates better the the the change after the operations she was very self-centered as a little girl and after the operation she is probably the one that is that the open had wanting to reach everyone and make sacrifices for everyone and Lucia in probably this the the faithfulness that that she she gains after the operations is probably what really max after after this event our lady had then said that there will not only be a miracle in October so that all will believe but that the members of the Holy Family will appear on the thirteenth of October 1917 a lady was to appear to the three little shepherds for the sixth and final time [Music] this area is known as covert area and it forms a natural amphitheater the children had said our lady a promised a miracle air on October 13th 1917 seventy thousand people gathered to witness what is known as the miracle of the Sun do CEA's parents own the land at the Cordillera and they cultivated much of their vegetables there however now that so many pilgrims were visiting the site of the apparitions they had trampled everything and their horses had eaten the rest this made a skeptical Maria Rosa even more annoyed with her daughter Lucia you know when you want something to eat boy that's the lady for eat yes [Music] these remarks had cuts me to the heart so much so that our hardly dared to take a piece of bread to eat as the day of the sixth apparition approached more and more people arrived in Fatima my mother became even more agitated the night before she said to me that something had better happened tomorrow or we will be lynched [Music] the rain that had started the day before continued through the night and on into the next morning people were arriving from all directions they were all drenched in the soggy countryside some had spent the whole night praying at the Cova vaminos possibly NewsAsia possible news that a miracle was predicted by the little profit tests at the kavadi era on the 13th of october had acted like a magnet and 70,000 people had gathered there in the pouring rain [Music] besides the pilgrims there were many skeptics and members of the anti-clerical press were also present they were certain that nothing would happen nothing could happen mankind was alone in a cruel materialistic universe and they hold it that this non-event would prove to be the death now of Christianity in Portugal [Music] hail Mary full of grace Elizabeth our domain the children had arrived knelt in the mud prayed and the rain continued to fall 12 noon had come and gone and nothing had happened the critics began to openly question their veracity and the punctuality of the lady the skeptics and journalists in the crowd were beginning to enjoy themselves you see it's gone 12 o'clock and nothing has happened it's all nonsense the fairy tale made up by children are believed by the feeble-minded [Music] what do you want of me I want to tell you that a chapel is to be built here in my honor I am the Lady of the Rosary continue always to pray the rosary every day the war is going to end and the soldiers will soon return to their homes I have many things to ask no purusam sick person local regional seniors and other thing do not offend the Lord our God anymore for he is already so much offended if the people are mended the war will be over but if they do not amend their ways the world will come to an end is there anything more you want of me no I do not want anything more of you [Music] look at the fan after our lady had disappeared into the immense distance of the firmament we've held Saint Joseph with the Child Jesus and our lady robed in white with a blue mantle beside the Sun Saint Joseph and the child Jesus seemed to bless the world for they traced the sign of the Cross with their hands when a little later this apparition disappeared I saw our Lord our lady it seemed to me that it was Our Lady of Sorrows our Lord appeared to bless the world in the same manner as Saint Joseph had done [Music] this apparition also vanished and I saw our lady once more this time resembling Our Lady of Carmel you see a word later see that this priests aged her entrance into Carmen some years later the children alone saw the three tableaus and while they were having the visions of the Holy Family our Lord and Our Lady and Our Lady of Carmel the 70,000 people saw something very different the spectacular miracle of the Sun the milk of the Sun in the last apparition of Our Lady it's a very important moment in the operations because in a sense it proves to a crowd of 70,000 people that something was really occurring but in a sense and again what what really matters in this event the most important thing of this event is what people couldn't see the three little Shepherd's while the Sun was dancing and moving in the Sun in the sky what the little little Shepherd's were seeing was really a succession of images of Our Lady and our Lord and in these images one of the images was really our Lord blessing blessing the world and in the sense this is what really matters in this event is that God is blessing us and more than anything more than the spectacle of the Sun dancing the blessing is what is really the focus of this event the rain had stopped during the apparitions but the dark clouds continued to obscure the Sun then they suddenly saw the Sun as a soft spinning disc of silver almost as if it was in front of the clouds only the little Shepherd's saw that a lady had projected the rays of light onto the Sun and at this point the seer shouts look at the Sun [Music] [Music] let's turn yellow [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] I'm sorry [Music] [Applause] the Sun men returned to its proper place in the sky the miracle of the Sun has ended everyone now finds that they are completely dry the people are relieved and smile at each other in relief many give thanks to God and pray the rosary it was a very cold day it was raining and it was the most amazing event they have ever seen in Fatima they saw many many people they never saw so many people at the same place in this little village many of them saw cars for the first time as there was no car in Fatima yet and she told me that people told her that they saw the Sun dancing around with many beautiful colors that they got scared they thought it was the end of the world because it seemed that the Sun was falling on them and it was the most amazing and wonderful event that they have ever seen grandmother's said to me that because it was raining all the day they were completely wet when they arrived at the covered area and right after the event they were fully dry all the clothes were dry the soil was dry where were they knelt on so it was a real miracle seventy thousand people had witnessed this unprecedented supernatural event heaven had made an intervention on earth the like of which had not been seen since biblical times as well as a majority believers atheists and members of the secular press had also witnessed what is now known as the miracle of the Sun and many of them were to convert back to the church Miller Griffith all the miracle of the Sun on October 13th is perhaps the best known and most talked-about event in Fatima and one of the reasons why it is the most known and talked-about event has to do precisely with its absolutely extraordinary character on the one hand it was something that had been promised that had been announced beforehand it was Lucia who during one of the apparitions asked our lady for a sign any sign that would help to show that they were not lying that they were telling the truth that she did in fact appear to them and it is interesting that our lady promised that yes she would provide a sign that in October she would do something that would help people see it was true she had been appearing to them and it is this fact this prior notice that made so many people come to the covert area on that day October 13 1917 it is true that on the other 13th days of preceding months there were already many who would gather at this place because of the spreading fame of the apparitions but on this October 13th it was an immense multitude that was present here where we are at the site of this shrine spread in all directions there are many written eyewitness reports journalists present also covered the event it even made the front page of the government control newspaper oh so cool Oh a journalist from Osaka wrote before the astonished eyes of the crowd whose aspect was biblical as they stood bareheaded eagerly searched in the sky the Sun trembled and made sudden incredible movements outside of all cosmic laws the Sun danced according to the typical expression of the people the miracle that was manifest at Fatima in October 1917 is something which was observable even by unbelievers those in fact who had come only to spread doubt and skepticism if not outright rejection of the supernatural events at Fatima and I think this is a message a sign which extends to all of humanity and I think going back to the words of the great saint john paul ii it does reminders of the lasting significance of the message of Fatima Pope John Paul said that the message of Fatima is now more urgent than it was in 1917 and I think the miracle the miracle that was foretold and manifest even to those who were unbelievers at Fatima is an indication to us of the continuing urgency of Our Lady's message some people suggested that it was an eclipse but no eclipse was due anywhere on earth that day and the Sun does not dance during an eclipse some suggested it was mass hysteria however people who were not present at the Cova and many miles away also saw it the Portuguese poet Alfonso Lopez Vieira who lived over 30 miles away from Fatima said on that day the 13th of october 1917 without remembering the predictions of the children I was enchanted by a remarkable spectacle in the sky of a kind I had never seen before there is even a story of sailors on a British warship off the coast of Portugal seeing something happening in the direction of Fatima the milk of the Sun wasn't just seen by the people at the cafeteria but it was also seen by on a much wider level you know a much wider area sort of scores of miles away really so for instance a quite a famous Portuguese poet was about 20 or 30 miles away and he saw the miracle knotek's not expecting it and he just remarked and how amazed he was that again no no possibility of elucidation there or auto suggestion or anything he just looked out the window and there was the miracle taking place in the distance and also there's quite a famous account by a young boy who became a priest in a village about 12 miles away from Fatima and they were all in school in the classroom and there's a commotion out in the street so they all rushed out and could see the miracle from a distant and then also I did it gave a talk and and this was a college and the lecture there heard a grandfather or great-grandfather had been on a ship and it was World War one of the a British ship off the coast of Portugal on the day of the miracle and the people on the ship saw the miracle from a distance so this was seen even by people who were was 50 miles from Fatima at the coast so it could be 60 70 miles away in the days weeks and months after the last apparition even more pilgrims came to see the children and question them they never gave the children a moment's peace two priests had a special place in the history of the apparitions the kindly priest from Lisbon Father Cruz who had originally met Lucia four years before heard her first confession and was instrumental in allowing Lucia to receive her First Holy Communion at the age of six and the Reverend Father doctor for me Gow doctor for me Gow was a Canon of the patriarchal sea of Lisbon and professor at the seminary and Lyceum at Santarem [Music] he first attended the 13th of September apparition and then visited the children he was skeptical at first he was also among the crowds at the korver in October when the apparition did not happen at 12:00 noon he urged the children to leave but Lucia was adamant but our Lady would come and there would be a miracle after he witnessed the miracle of the Sun he believed and wrote about it doctor for me gone came to question me many times his interrogations of serious and detailed his reverence always ended by giving me some good advice which was of help to me spiritually I liked him very much if we spoke to me a great deal about the practice of virtue in the months that followed the last apparition doctor for me GAO came to see and questioned all three of the little shepherds he became a firm believer in the apparitions and was to be known as the great apostle or Fatima it was now time for the children to do as our lady had asked go to school and learn to read and write usually just the girls went on their own Francisco preferred to stay alone and pray often when they reach Fatima he went into the church to pray by the tabernacle saying to the girls you go to school I'll stay here and console our Lord you can call me on your way home he did not think it worth his while to learn to read as he said he was going to heaven soon when someone asked him what he would like to do when he grows up and would he like to be a priest he said no he'd rather go to heaven the little Shepherd's found that the pilgrims would not leave them be and would seek them out whether at their homes or in and around Fatima if the children spotted them first they would often run and hide one day just outside of ljus trail we came across some people by surprise they put your Center and myself on a wall in order to see us better but Francisco refused a poor woman and her son seeing Francisco knelt down in front of him to beg for some graces from our lady to cure her family Francisco also knelt down and they began to pray the rosary very soon all those people stopped asking questions and went down on their knees to pray [Music] after that they went with us to the covert era reciting the Rosary along the way later the poor lady came back to the Cova to thank our lady with her son and husband as well for they had recovered very illustrative episode of the life of Francisco certainly what we are saying of the importance and the centrality of Prayer is the fact that at the point crowd was coming and wanting to ask many questions about the operations and because it was there were many people they place Jacinta and Lucia on top of a wall and they tried to put Francisco as well but he refuses it doesn't want the the high place it doesn't want to be at the center of the attention he knows that the center is belongs to someone else so it stays at the side and people keep on asking questions to just hint and Lucia but a lady understands that transition is by himself at the side any she approaches and asks him to pray for some intention and Francisco kneels down and asks the lady to kneel down and they start praying for that intention and the people who were very curious about the operations understanding that there's someone praying there they stop their curiosity and they join these two people praying and they start praying as well so in a sense we see the tinner area of the life of Francisco even so he understands that is not to be at the center it refuses to be on top and the kneels down to is to the level way understands he should be in this attitude of prayer and prayer for the others prayer offering for the others the war dead end as a lady had promised and the soldiers returned after the war the French government gave Portugal the famous battered crucifix found on the Western Front in grateful thanks [Music] today it is kept near Fatima a pettalia hobby where it is given a guard of honor a Portugal's War Memorial many believe that because of Fatima Portugal was spared involvement in the Second World War the failure of the world's leaders to listen to the pleas for peace by Pope Benedict the 15th had calls the first world war to last longer than it would have the misery death and disease that exude heed from the war had repercussions far beyond the war fronts and a particular virulent strain of the flu had developed and had spread in the wake of the war it was called the Spanish flu because Spain was the first country to report it but it did not originate from there the combatant countries suppressed news of this deadly virus because of the morale of their peoples it killed nearly 50 million it spread throughout most of Europe including Portugal and even Fatima where Francisco and Jacinta caught it they became very ill and were confined to their beds when people visited Francisco and Jacinta in their rooms they commented they felt different in their presence that it was like being in church while he was ill Francisco is always joyful I asked him if he was suffering a lot he said quite a lot but never mind I'm consoling our Lord and I'm going to heaven I asked him not to forget me once he's there and asked if our lady could take me as well however he said he wouldn't ask that as i well know our lady does not want me to come yet i'm going to confession so that i can receive Holy Communion and a lot I want you to tell me if you have seen recreate anything yesterday your mother a few times that's true I remember that now go and the Shakir cinta if she has any [Music] I asked Jacinta could she remember any sins that Francisco had committed so that he could confess them she thought a while then said that before Our Lady appeared he stole some money from our Father to buy a music box and that he threw some stones at some boys when I gave him the message from his sister he said that he had already confessed those the night he died I said goodbye Francisco if you go to heaven tonight don't forget me at this he caught hold of my hand and said I won't forget be sure of that [Music] Francisco did not recover and died on the 4th of April 1919 it was buried in the cemetery near the parish church [Music] Jacinta was not able to attend Francisco's funeral but stayed alone in bed and prayed she missed her brother greatly Jacinta suffered greatly when Francisco died and remained silent for long periods of time when I asked her what she was thinking about she said Francisco I said to her it won't be long before you go to heaven - but what about me she said you poor thing don't cry I'll pray lots for you it's what how lady wants for you if it were me I'd gladly stay and suffer more for sinners there were hopes among her family and friends that she would recover but she knew that this would not happen just sent out offered her sufferings for the conversion of sinners Our Lady had appeared to Jacinta [Music] when decentered did not recover she was taken to a remote spittle where they performed an operation to relieve fluid on her lungs however this failed and she returned to Fatima she then had an open wound which had to be dressed daily people came to visit us from a distance we seemed to sense something supernatural about Jacinta our lady visited Jacinta three times and said that she would go to hospital in Lisbon and there she would die alone however she should not be afraid for our Lady promised to come to her and take her to heaven [Music] no one took jacinta's talk of a hospital in Lisbon seriously for the martyr family could not afford such an expense however doctor for Macau said a wealthy Baron and his friends would take care of all the expenses but she would never see Lucia again after travelling to Lisbon by train with her mother Jacinta was first admitted into an orphanage while awaiting admittance into hospital there Jacinta would have further visits from Our Lady and again when Jacinta was admitted into hospital she was able to ask Our Lady the question which troubled her the most why the source books well more Souls go to hell sins of the flesh and for any other reason [Music] fashions will much offend our Lord people who serve God should not follow the fashions the church has no fashion our Lord is always the same the sins of the world very grained and therefore unfortunately so many people going to the sin of flesh are abandoning God and are revolting against God and this is plus and this leads them to the eternal condemnation in hell this is a truth well therefore the priests the bishops the church has to alert people of the danger of the consequences of the sins of flesh of course we have not to speak all the time on this topic that would be not healthy and not sound but we have to speak on time and to young people to the adult people to the world even of the danger of the sins of flesh and of the negative consequences of this and this middle will be such clear statements and teaching on the on the immorality of unchastity and the sins of life and of the dangerous consequences if men knew what eternity is they would do everything to amend their lives people are lost because they do not think of the death of our Lord and do penance the message of Fatima speaks to us of the deluge of impurity which would weigh down on humanity and I believe we can see in the prophetic message of Fatima part of the drama of our own century which is seen especially in the the sins of impurity which are presented and encouraged even as no longer even sins no longer even offensive to God and when I was recently in the United States I saw amongst the students a slogan which said that pornography porn kills and it kills love and I think that's a powerful statement both at the human and the supernatural level that this deluge of impurity of which our Lady warns us threatens to kill supernatural life in our souls and to kill our capacity for love in this we see the beauty of the prophetic message of Our Lady many marriages are not of God and do not please our Lord [Music] Porras sir an adaptive ISM yuckiest there is some sort of relativism in Poland but it doesn't affect the nation as a whole we are an island that fights back against relativism and liberalism but of conquered Europe we practically don't have abortions which were legal during communism there is no discussion about so-called homosexual marriages also in vitro fertilization is not funded with taxpayers money while the West perceives as achievement however greatly immoral in Poland is still contested despite tremendous pressure from the West I think that Poland can enrich Europe by keeping the moral values world is full of war and discord war is a punishment for sin I cannot at present avert the justice of my son from the world penance is necessary if people amend their lives our Lord will even yet save the world but if not punishment will come must pray much of sinners and for priests and religious priests should concern themselves only with things of the church priests must be very very pure in this is a work of mercy really this is mercy to alert people please don't follow this way don't continue to go to this way of the sins of less because you are separating yourself from God you are approaching really the danger of the eternal condemnation we have to alert them and this is with love this concern for them not in in a tone of condemnation because we cannot condemn we have not to condemn people but we have to condemn the d'lai the evil this of course and so we are in this way helping the people we are merciful to them and when a bishop and a priest is doing the contrary and say okay sins of lash is not so bad you can use these and be friend of God this is a lie this is a crime a spiritual crime because this bishop in this priests are confirming the people in in living against the will of God in living in a revolt against God it is cruel this behavior is not merciful and this is a behavior of of the merciless Pharisees and scribes disobedience of priests and religious to their superiors displeases our Lord very much if the government would leave the church in peace and give liberty to religion it would have God's blessing Jacinta did not want anyone to stand where a lady had appeared and would ask the nurse to move on the evening of the 20th of February 1920 the parish priest dr. dos Reyes had visited her and heard her confession Jacinta wanted to receive Holy Communion as she said she would soon die the priest promised to bring it next morning Jacinta died peacefully during that night after her death jacinta's body remained in an open coffin for three days in the sacristy of the Church of the Holy Angels pilgrims started to visit the church and the priest let them see the body for which they showed a deep devotion and respect they noticed that her lips and cheeks were a beautiful pink it did not seem as if she was dead at all before jacinta's little body was closed in its coffin the priests and pilgrims noticed the beautiful perfume that our body exude in September 1935 the mortal remains of Jacinta were returned to Fatima when her casket was opened she was found to be incorrupt and then she was laid in the parish cemetery next to Francisco [Music] in 1951 she was reburied again in the new basilica near the Cordillera al Francisco was also moved there in 1952 [Music] the graves of st. Jacinta and Lucia are situated to the left of the high altar in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary st. francisco's grave is situated to the right of the high altar [Music] the Basilica contains 15 altars one for every decade of the original mysteries of the rosary [Music] the Magnificent Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary and the sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima is situated on higher ground overlooking the Cova Tierra the sanctuary area is situated in front of the Basilica and contains an outdoor altar which is surrounded by two beautiful colonnades within the left-hand colonnade is the Holy Family Chapel and to the right there is the media center every night it is beautifully illuminated for the Rosary processions the tower is 213 feet high in the tower in a niche and above the main entrance is a statue of Our Lady of Fatima carved by father Thomas McGlinn under the instructions of sister Lucia the statue is a gift from the people of the United States to Fatima statues of angels and saints adorn the Basilica the colonnade in front of the Basilica contains statues of four portuguese saints st. John of God Saint Joan of Britto Saint Anthony and blessed nuno of Santa Maria to the left of the Basilica is the Chapel of the apparitions in the chapel can be seen the original little chapel built in the early 1920s the exact spot of Our Lady's apparitions is marked by the statue of Our Lady the sanctuary square is almost twice as large as that of st. Peter's in Rome [Music] however the very first structure to be made at the Cordillera was a frame over the little home oak with lamps on it this was made in 1917 and was in place during the latter apparitions one night after the apparitions this structure was pulled down along with a little tree by Freemasons and an anti clerical mob and dragged away behind a car upon hearing of this next morning you see I ran to the Cova but was delighted to find the little trees still standing they had cut down the wrong one [Music] and after the apparitions were over the little chapel was built to fulfill our lady's instructions on the 6th of March 1922 the Freemasons placed bombs in the chapel and another by the home oak on which our lady had appeared the roof of the chapel was blown off but the bomb by the little tree did not go off today to the south side of the square is the very modern-looking Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity it has memorials of Saint John Paul the 2nd Pius the 12th and pull the sick placed on the four courts outside inside it has a big golden altarpiece with depictions of angels and saints and the Lamb of God here we see our lady with Francisco and Jacinta away from the cover tiara and the Fatima sanctuary there are other important pilgrimage sites and they are all easily accessible by foot from the roundabout with the monument of the three little Shepherd's one can take a walking route to out astral and valley news this route contains the way of the cross given to Fatima by Hungarian refugees from communism in 1964 each station is in the form of a little shrine and leads to an impressive Calvary a little further after this is Valley News 4 the fourth apparition of Our Lady and beyond this again is Lakota anjo the position of the first and third apparitions of the angel about 400 meters from Valhalla sees outer Stroud where the homes of the little shepherds are located at the bottom of the garden of Lucia's home is the well where the angel of Portugal appeared [Music] about half a mile from Aldous trowel is the parish church of Fatima dedicated to Saint Anthony this is where the visionaries were baptized every pilgrim to Fatima can gain the indulgences needed to avert their temporal punishment due to sin and the graces needed to enrich their spiritual life by fulfilling the usual conditions of a pilgrimage all this can be done while visiting the beautiful holy places associated with the message of Fatima the message of Fatima was given by Our Lady in the middle of the terrible first world war it was also a warning of our worst war to come it was a call at the beginning of the most devastating century in history a century in which man was to put himself before God a century stained by abortion wars sins of the flesh same-sex marriage and the persecution of Christians it was a call to return to traditional family values and for sacrifice for others it was a call for prayer especially the Rosary for the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament it was most of all a call to make reparation for sins committed against the Immaculate Heart it was therefore a call for a return to purity Lucia knew all this and was prepared to offer the rest of her life as a sacrifice and in 1921 her bishop decided she should leave Fatima for good and anonymously go into a convent to finish her schooling then again under another name as a nun at first in Spain however before Lucia left Fatima she went to the Cordillera one last time to pray and to say goodbye and there Our Lady would appear for the seventh time [Music] there was one more apparition at the Cova to me this was in 1921 I was sad as I was to leave Fatima without telling anyone or saying goodbye I went there to pray before I left for boarding school and our lady told me to dedicate myself wholly to God [Music] I am here a seventh time go and follow the path the bishop wants you to take this is the will of God then I repeated my yes now yes much more conscious than that of May the 13th 1917 and while our lady was once again rising towards heaven it came to my mind at a glance a whole series of wonders which in that same spot only four years ago I was given to contemplate [Music] you [Music]
