portion of the worship service where we we now go to the Lord's table the scripture of reference is Matthew chapter 26 beginning at verse 26 and there's a lot of beauty in this scripture because there's many opportunities that Christ had to sit and have supper with the disciples but on this particular occasion he knew that this one had a special meaning and we gain that from reading starting at verse 26 he says now as they were eating Jesus took bread and after blessing it he broke it and gave it to the disciples and said take eat this is my body and he took a cup and when he had given thanks he gave it to them saying drink of it all of you for this is my blood of the Covenant which is poured out for many for the giveness for the forgiveness of sins and I tell you that I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my father's Kingdom he knew that this was a special moment in the beauty of this moment is that he also knew was what was to come and that he had the power to take on what they didn't yet but they yet not understood and we pray father that let's all go to our Heavenly Father at this time as we pray for the communion we thank you Father we can't thank you enough for the sacrifice that you've given us and for your willingness to die on the cross that we may have an opportunity to live father we thank you Father for this bread we thank you for this cup and we pray father that you'll bless us at this time that we'll focus on you and that will allow your word to come in and help us through this trying times we thank you and we ask at all that Jesus amen name is straight baby's strong town was strong town makes me [Music] [Music] how is your day baby straight name is my name is a strong tower makes one more song before our amazing preacher number 45 to come the takeover is on the way Amy [Music] soprano saying worship God [Music] yeah oh yeah I love you I love you I love you [Music] [Music] I came this morning to bring glory to God you gorgeous [Music] [Applause] [Music] we bring food we bring glory to God we will worship our Lord we worship our [Music] [Music] never [Music] we forever [Music] we gotta get this boy we got we're going to God [Music] Gloriana glory glory love you yeah [Music] [Music] you River [Music] praise the mighty name of Jesus we're thankful to God this morning for his immense mercy and grace and the watched care of the Lord as he watches over us with the loving kindness that we could never earn we're grateful because our God is still an awesome God one of the most difficult things to do is to maintain faith in the Lord in the midst of chaotic times sometimes what's is what is chaos from our perspective we have to maintain the disposition that chaos does not equate to God being out of control and I think when we look at things from the human perspective we become blinded by what we see not recognizing that the God we can't see is still in absolute control and so I spent before you with a heavy heart and recognizing that standing before you this morning is not an easy task because I recognize the climate in which we now live and so through the arduous task of trying to give you a word from the Lord I would I admit to you that I'm struggling somewhere between my spirit and flesh that I am able to acknowledge wholeheartedly that with a immense degree of emotional despair I have to find a way to give you a glimmer of hope so be mindful that I struggled as I preached this because I realized that within the context of my own psyche psyche and within the fabric of my own thinking I am to stand before you as a gospel preacher while at the same time feeling the same human difficulties that everyone else is feeling be it far for me to give you the impression that because I'm a preacher that I don't struggle with my faith that I don't have moments when I am challenged and what it is that I have committed to be be it far for me to give you the picture and the portrait of being so spiritually disciplined that at times I don't want to lose my discipline and express my anger within the context of my humanity it's interesting that as I perused down the corridors of understanding Christianity it is moments like this within the context of our history that I'm reminded that before I was ever a Christian I was black and I have to bring my blackness and my understanding of that blackness in subjection to my Christianity which is a difficult task when you have to suspend what your blackness feels for a moment when I have to embrace the will of God in spite of my blackness that is a struggle that is a tug of war that happens within the spirit of a man recognizing that being a Christian does not negate that I'm still black and so my humaneness within the context of my blackness is it a tug of war with my Christianity that seeks to keep me within the context of mental and spiritual control at a moment when I want to lose control and so I stand before you as a struggling preacher I stand before you as one engage in spiritual tug-of-war I stand before you in a dichotomy trying to speak to you from a spiritual perspective while at the same time desiring to speak to you from the perspective of my flesh and so I ask you to bear with me for a moment and I guess this would be a good time to have to very least celebrate the young black sons and daughters who have stood in protest who not have necessarily engaged in the negative activity that we have seen woven within the fabric of these writings but I do want to celebrate the young black sons and daughters who have stood in peaceful protest expressing their disagreement expressing a disposition of anger expressing a disposition of frustration and at the same time standing firmly on their conviction that we will not stand for the devaluing of a human life and in this context of black life so I applaud the young men and the sons and daughters all across the country who stand in a unified spirit and saying we will not stand for this behavior while we from one perspective look at the writing from a negative connotation I also wish that they would be more press and there would be more spotlighting of the peaceful protesting that have been exemplified by not just African Americans but people of all ethnicities who have all stood against this atrocity Caucasians African Americans Hispanics standing together saying that this malicious behavior cannot go unpunished so I am suggesting the celebrating protests and while that seems not to fit within the sentence of a Christian and within the fabric of my spirituality I am suggesting there is nothing unspiritual about protests that there's nothing unspiritual about standing against malignant behavior that there is absolutely nothing unfounded or anything that can be considered to be wrong in standing against racism and standing against a disposition of those who have the idea of white supremacy or those who have the mindset of being those that don't value black lives I find it necessary that you are actually not being Christian if you are not in a mind of protest I take the position that racism is anti gospel and gospel is anti racism and each and every Christian ought to have a willingness to take a strong stance against anything that arrays itself from the pure and genuine message of the gospel of Jesus Christ and even if one is not a Christian I believe we should stand firmly against anything that resembles or is social injustice and so I stand before you in a mindset of anger and which brings me to my sermon topic this morning in my sermon topic this morning is I have permission to be angry I have permission to be angry my job as a gospel preacher is to ensure that I couch this sermon within a theological framework that my thinking that my mentality that my thought process is filtered through a divine perspective I do not have the right or the prerogative to ever suspend the will of God regardless of what I feel and so I will do what a dog a preacher must and the gospel preacher has to filter his teaching in all that he wishes to say through the filter of the Word of God to ensure that I'm speaking God's Word and not mine and I find that difficult this morning for a variety of reasons it has nothing to do with something being wrong with God's Word it has nothing to do with God's Word does not address atrocities it's just that God's Word demands that I bridle my behavior and it is difficult to bridle behavior when you are in a mindset when you feel like the only way people can hear you is through a different kind of behavior yet scripture restrains me and I can remind myself of the words of the Apostle Paul when he says the love of Christ constrains me and so I speak to you this morning with the intent of filtering what I want to say through the Word of God but at the same time not being ignorant of the feelings and the frustrations that is permeating our country and also acknowledging my own humaneness as I stand behind this sacred desk so permit me to read a passage and I won't be long this morning because I don't feel to be long I'm actually just trying to get through what I want to say Ephesians chapter 4 beginning in verse 17 I'm going to culminate that reading somewhere around verse number 32 perhaps before my emphasis will be in Ephesians chapter 4 verse 26 and perhaps I may say some things that sound anti-christian but it's actually quite biblical this therefore I say and testifying the Lord that you no longer walk as the Gentiles walk in the futility of their mind being darkened in their understanding alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them because of the hardness of their heart who becoming callous gave themselves over to my seasickness from the pursuit of all uncleanness in greediness but you did not learn Christ in this way if indeed you have heard about him and you were taught by him just as the truth is in Jesus that you take off according to your formal way of life the old man who was being destroyed according to the former way of life according to the deceitful desires be renewed in the spirit of your mind and put on the new man in accordance with God was created in righteousness and holiness from truth look at verse 19 again I want to highlight a few words for becoming callous gave themselves over to licentiousness another way of expressing that idea is license for the pursuit of uncleanliness in greediness contrast verse 20 but you did not learn Christ in this way now see that if indeed you have heard about him and you were taught by him just as truth is in Jesus that you take off according to your former way of life the old man who is being destroyed according to deceitful desires be renewed in the spirit of your mind and put on the new man in accordance with God who was created in righteousness holiness from the truth my sensuousness callus I want you to highlight those ideas look at first 25 therefore putting aside the lie speak truth each one of you with his neighbor because we are members of one body and here is my emphasis for this morning I want to read it I want you to hear it I want you to hear it carefully watch this be angry I want to read anything else yet be angry that there's no discouragement in the text I'm gonna read the rest of it but before I go any further for those Christians who hide behind prayer and passivity that do not want to acknowledge the maliciousness of the current climate of our country who'd think that it is the job of the child of God to pray and hide behind the four walls of a building be angry I don't want to go further yet for those who are of the mentality that somehow someway it is not Christian to acknowledge social injustice and if you don't like the phrase social injustice for those Christians who do not think that we need to acknowledge malignant behavior or that we should stay out of such conversations the text says be angry for those of us who cannot put social injustice within the proper context of how it should be understood then let me use another word should Christians be outraged by evil or that which is sinful so if I take so injustice that phraseology and for a moment put it aside but at least put it within the proper category in which it belongs should I be angry when something fits within the context and the category of what is evil I am suggesting to you Paul said be angry now the caveat to the text to which I will put in a proper context is be angry and sin not but before I get through the explanation of sin not I want you to acknowledge that the a clause of the text prior to the because of the text gives me permission to be angry and so I want to suggest in the study of our pets and the exegesis of our text before we get into the practical conversation I am suggesting that there is theological basis and divine permission for me to be angry now the caveat of God is be angry and sin not I am since in suggesting both causes in the text must be acknowledged be angry and sin not the dr. Hayward is sounding awfully revolutionary actually at this point I'm sounding rather scriptural so before you start trying to frame my position or before you start framing what you think I'm saying at least acknowledge right now I'm standing on a text I haven't got to the parts you disagree with yet this part you have to agree with be angry in the context and the syntactical structure of this pet is functioning as what we call an imperative an imperative within grammar functions as a command the text here is not a suggestion it is in the context of a command being very is not saying you should be angry is not saying I'm suggesting for you to be angry the text says be angry and sin not well I want you arm before I get into the exegesis of this well maybe I need to do daddy Jesus verse alright let's stay with the excuse for us let me let me give it the theological platform because I said I'll filter all this through the Word of God and that's what I'm gonna do let me make sure you understand what I'm saying doctrinally first because God needs to be a basis I am reading a text right now that at the very least gives me permission to be angry it's a command the caveat is sin not which means I am never to allow anger to be expressed in such a way where it leads to a sinful result yet the a clause says be angry within the context of the book of Ephesians 2 which today I will not go through an elongated background of this text I will say that the first section of the book of Ephesians written in about 1862 the Apostle Paul writing to an Ephesian constituents Gentile audience suggested the first three chapters what he calls the mystery on or the mystery of God's will the great scheme of redemption he articulates this with minute detail about our salvation in Christ the second three chapters or the second section of three chapters is practical it's behavioral it's that my gospel or to play out within the context of how I act it's behavioral context this is why in Chapter four and in Chapter five the redundant word used redundant word indicating a word that's showing up multiple times is the word the word walk is suggestive of behavior is not talking about putting one foot in front of the other but the word walk within this context takes on the theological connotation of how one shapes his behavior is interesting in chapter four verse one he says walk worthy of the gospel wherewith you've been called in other words my walk or to look like the gospel stay with me because we like we like to pick and choose what we want our walk to look like and the parts of the Christian walk that seemed to be a bit more a bit more aggressive it's not the part of the walk we wish to suggest because there are some people who frame Christianity in a passive mentality I am suggesting that Christianity is both passive and active and you need to understand both perspectives within the context of Christianity now he says walk worthy and within the contents of chapter 4 he begins to mention behaviors in which the church or not look like or walk like or behave like the world that they came out of do not walk as other Gentiles walk to that we accept that our behavior must not be relegated or demoted into worldly expression so to this point you ought to agree with me that as a child of God one who submits to the will of God we acknowledge that our behavior ought not look like the world we came out of and the world in which I exist I ought to be a representative of the God in whom I place my trust we should have no additional so he goes on to mention several immoral practices to which we ought to put off the idea of of license like sentience to be a person who lives a life of life sense meaning that my more immoral behaviors I treated as such as if I have license and he said these Gentiles of the world are calloused to count me callous means to be beyond the feeling to live a life where I'm no longer affected by the thing that I do to be callous he says you have not learned Christ that way that is Jesus has not only saved you but Jesus has given you a paradigm of Education that should lead to a life of transform living so far there should be no disagreement now if that is true and that is the case by the time you read Ephesians 4 verse 17 and following there is a great argument in regards to being a child of God that walks differently from the context of the world in which you live I'm in the world but I don't walk according to the world I'm in I'm fully accepted however some of us take this to a degree and we study this in a way that gives people the impression that because we're not of the world we don't feel what the world feels you cannot be a Christian that divorces yourself from the feeling of the world that you're in and so yes I'm different from the world and yes I do not behave like the world but let's not pretend like we're not in the world you're not of it but you sho'nuff still in it now while I'm in it I must not walk like other Gentiles walk while I'm in it I must have a lifestyle that is that which is reflective of the holiness of God I accept all that I accept all that now well dr. Heywood then what what are you in fact saying what I am saying is that I am suggesting that in as much as I am not in the world I'm accepting that my behaviors should look different but I'm also accepting that Christianity is not as passive as we have defined it to be now well you getting that from brother Haywood I want you to read real carefully look for me in the text I want you to look at Ephesians chapter 5 and I want you to look specifically excuse me Ephesians chapter 4 and I want you to look specifically at verse number 25 and 26 I'll get it with me quickly and I'll be right where you want me please in chapter 4 verse 25 and 26 he says therefore lay aside falsehood speak truth each one with your with his neighbor for we are members one of another be angry yet do not sin this is a behavioral content now in the behavioral context he says lay lay aside because you got an old self in a new self I wish I had time to deal with that he mentions the old self new self old man new man and in as much as I'm to put off the old man out to put on the new man and I put on the new man which means to put on a new set of behaviors so he looks at behaviors like clothing just put off this put on that being a child of God and I'm gonna get back to verse 26 can be so challenging because God asks me to bridle of behavior that sometimes hard to bridle depending on the context and the circumstance that I'm in I was riding down the street one day and two cars almost collided two gentleman jumped out of the car but the two gentleman jumped out of the car one of them was was looking corporate he had a suit he had a tie he had handkerchief he looked extremely wrinkled I mean he looked like he was a person who within society he was corporate he was a businessman he was quite polite when he first got out of the car the other gentleman got out the car was malicious and was cursing and was saying all kind of things that should not be said to another person his exchange was extremely malignant the gentleman who looked corporate tried to calm the man down the man would not calm down until finally the man spit on him and so the man was corporate in a moment of time got very angry but before he engaged in the altercation he took off his garments he took off his time he took off his shoes and he went out to me and frankly the man who was corporate was a good fighter frankly he he how he was dressed did not look like what I was seeing in the fight but it was in him it was in him to be that aggressive it was in him to get that angry it was in him in other words don't provoke what's in me because don't be fooled by what I'm wearing because if you push me something else will come out of me I am a child of God like everybody else there are godly people all across this country that want to do right and want to be right but there are some of us that feel like we've been spit on inputs and if you're not careful we will take off out Jesus lay him aside because we are provoked by behavior that brings the worst out of some of us what are you suggesting not to hate what sometimes is hard to be a Christian and to be a man of faith when you are being pushed into a different kind of behavior now that may not sound Christian to you but it is honest when it comes to the struggle and you'll be surprised how far you get pushed what is your son when it's your daughter when there's somebody in your family that suffers at the hand of a police officer that has no regard that puts a man into a position that basically is designed to supplicate and watches him die and watches him get unresponsive if that was your child your son your daughter sometimes you'll put aside what you should be because you are provoked to become something else and so what I'm suggesting to all of you before you start judging riotous before you start judging people who are acting out understand there's been a buildup of frustration there's been a buildup of anger no it's not right to riot and destroy of the folks property but I am suggesting we try to kneel one time peacefully and when colin kaepernick kneel peacefully that was not respected how i'm suggesting to all of you when you can't respect peaceful protest sometimes you push people to a place of behavior where they're expressing a frustration because they have felt unheard so don't they hey what are you suggesting that you endorse riding now no no no I'm saying I understand I'm saying while unproductive to destroy property in the old house I understand frustration when you feel like your life and the people within which you exist is so devalued I am suggesting not to endorse certain behaviors but at least take this time to understand now I want to walk through this text but I'm trying to get some preliminaries out my frustration my frustration well before I get to that what is this text what is Ephesians telling us about anger what is it telling us about anger the word or gay anger from which you get English words biologically like orgasm release it is the release of an emotion anger all of us experience anger now the text is telling us my new self that is my new man listen to me carefully has permission to be angry don't think anger is an old self behavior anger is a human behavior permitted by my new self the caveat being this I must control my anger so that it doesn't become an environment of sinful expression now I'm admitting to you that emotions can be some of the most irritating realities because any emotion uncontrolled becomes the dwelling place of the devil which is why the next verse will say and don't give the devil place the devil knows how to gain play through uncontrolled anger emotions uncontrolled becomes the playground of the devil because he can move your uncontrolled emotion into sinful expression be angry that's it not and don't give the devil please I cannot allow anger to control me but I must control my anger that's the teaching of the text without me going through an elongated part of the background of the syntactical structures of Ephesians this text tells me I got permission to be angry later in the context of eases will say put off anger and malice well wait a minute how does he say be angry in one text and tell me to put off anger at another Ted because the anger of verse 26 is a permitted anger as long as it doesn't meet sinful expression the anger you got to put off is the anger that has become sinful expression but anger in its generic form is permitted and that which is evil that which is sinful that was just malignant that which is a distal of God I have a right to be angry now now that being said if you can understand that why are we so angry well I'm so angry look I want you to look at the application I want to look at the application of where I want you to go with this I want you to look at the application of where I want you to go with this I'm gonna read three things to you when in a crisis don't fall into the temptation to abandon your Christianity always remember that Christ is relevant to the crisis Christians do not have to limit themselves to passive prayer we can actively stand against injustice Bible I believe that and why is that so important protest is allowed because we can express our anger through what we stand against so why are we so angry we're angry because we've been here but we're angry because there's nothing new about what happened with George George is simply a symptomatic expression of an experience that has been our experience to which this is not new it's a new face and we need to be mindful that it's a new face all right now what I want people to understand and I don't mean I'm not gonna take long here is when we start talking about what has taken place with George you've got to understand before we got to George we were hardly over a month we were still dealing with something that happened in February that took two months to come to pass with an arrest and then while dealing with that you got a briana situation who the wrong department is entered and she is killed over an altercation that has nothing to do with her she is a casualty in a wrong rest in a wrong entry into an apartment so while you're dealing with the situation of a jogger of a young man going through a studied home coming out running down the street only to be met with being killed and murdered by shotgun to another situation of a wrong entry into an apartment and a young lady dies so now a new situation with George who is murdered as far as I'm concerned well let me say it this way for those who are very technical I'll say the police officer for technicality agitated for its death now y-you weren't it that way boy dies in the hospital but I will say his death is agitated by the false behavior of these police officers now you can't fight me on that so well he didn't really die on the street ok fine but is that is agitated and what was happening all in the back in that episode on that Street now his was interesting we all knew that the narrative was going to be that the death was caused by some other means we all waited for the narrative we all waited for the coronary report to say he had health issues he had heart issues he had hypertension we had all of these all the sudden conditions that were the real cause of death let me ask you a question if that's true and it may be that is true he had those conditions do you not think those conditions were aggravated by a knee on one spur an artery for six solid minutes do you not think that would exit eight whatever conditions he may have had this is a narrative designed to release the idea of murder and it's unfortunate now here's what's why we so angry I'm I'm on why we angry pond before you got to the scene with him on the brown handcuffs well he was handcuffed prior to that standing walking in compliance with the police officers to the side of a building while we may suggest that there may have been some resistance at some point within the cult occasion what we see is a compliant man in handcuffs meaning he now no threat he's no threat to anyone in the area he's no threat to the police officers he is subjugated so if he subjugated placed on the ground what becomes the issue of having to put a man in a suffocating position who is no threat why are we angry because you got a couple of layers of issues one you had an arrogant dispositioned police officer while his knee was in this man's neck showed no remorse no care absolutely no regard for the man's cries for help as he indicates I can't breathe if he is subjugated what becomes the issue in changing the position in which he laid unless you got another mindset that you're trying to inflict punishment needless to say Wow he had his knee in his neck he told the man why don't you get up and get in the car well how's he gonna get out and get in the car witness fear of the sighting that was quite clearly becomes an issue of talking this gentleman that is now laid on the ground with your knee in the side of his neck across his carotid artery this is no longer becomes a position to isolate the human body it becomes designed to inflict damage in pain oh don't mess with me let me help y'all I'm a sixth degree black belt I am quite clear about such maneuvers that are exercised against the human body I know the difference between a pen and an isolation and a supplication please now if there is expertise I have it here I have it in the book too but I certainly have it here what I'm suggesting to you is that if he's on his stomach I need pen would be at the back of the neck but the need pen is not at the back of the neck it is cross the artery that creates suffocation against a gentleman that you say had hypertension heart issues well what you think is gonna do to a man that has those kind of issues it is an unreasonable kind of activity against a man that's already subjugated well when you see that with the man's hands the police officer says it is pocket while he leans his weight on the side of this man's neck hearing people say he's not responsive hands in his head in his pocket looking at the audience like what are you talking to me for his disposition is angry its arrogant it's no regard for life now only for a picture to show up later with this same cop wearing a hat that says make whites great again wearing a hat that said make lights great again this is the gentleman that has been permitted to be in law enforcement come here law enforcement not to issue is who you don't vet that is allowed in law enforcement that has a mindset and which you've empowered him with a firearm and a badge not to mention his history of constant conflict his history of being an aggressor what are you saying dr. Heywood we angry because at a moment in time there are people who feel like they've had no voice and they express their anger in a way that they feel is the only way they will be heard having said that I'm at understanding but now let me go to the next level to which I'm most appreciative of kilobytes statements I thought gave a wonderful speech emotional and wonderful heartfelt now my advice to us and when I say us I made African Americans well my advice is to us is as was stated last night while you're frustrated and angry Oh No fat this behavior is a braiding down of your own house and while progress is designed to get attention we've got to be careful that anger doesn't become misplaced hear me carefully ain't nothing wrong with being angry but don't let anger be misplaced where it becomes unfruitful expression because there's nothing truthful that will come out of burning your neighborhoods nothing true for comes out of killing of the black businesses nothing fruitful come that is angry and you think you're aiming at one target but you're affecting another target because anger is misplaced don't miss place so anger what are you suggesting dr. Hayworth tell you what I'm suggesting I'm suggesting strategy that's what I'm suggesting I'm suggesting strategy but what do you mean strategy I'm suggesting you can't listen when you fight you got to know how to fight when you fight you got to know how to fight then you got to know how to fight an enemy that is bigger and stronger than you let me say it again you've got another fight an enemy that's big and strong to you when when Floyd Mayweather's had to fight a MMA fighter his strategy could not be go Buffalo what are you saying listen black man black daughter and all ethnicities that stand with African Americans you can't fight violence with violence against law enforcement you will go lose that's right don't lose that right and I'm telling you you you're not equipped to fight this fight that way and it is not wise to fight it this way because you can't win attempting to go blow-for-blow time right this right you've got to be strategic and how you fight this fight don't let Hank be misplaced and don't allow your anger to become an environment for fruitless expression what do you do let me tell you what you do now I'm thinking through this whip for myself in church number one I want you to be clear by this a system will not and cannot be changed until that system is understood and infiltrated I said it a system will not and cannot be changed unless that system is understood and infiltrated what do you mean infiltrated I know that sounds like an espionage work what I'm saying is young man young woman after you finish protesting get an education in law after you finished protesting make sure you're registered to vote after you finished protesting make sure you outline an agenda with proper organizations so that you can keep politicians to pass because one of the issues we're having is we are not utilizing the system and we don't have enough folk in the system that have power to help us establish policies and execute policies you can't fight blow-for-blow won't win that way that's not a long-term strategy long-term strategy is how well do you know the system and who do we have in the system to help us with policy and executing policy that's strategy so after you finish pulling a break and after you finish doing all that now you gotta start thinking different after you set of building on fire all right you're angry you're frustrated I get it now what's long-term strategy I'm thinking through that myself you know I'm thinking about that politicians come to churches first they love coming to churches because they want to come and make us think they spiritual and they want to tell us about 2 Corinthians and and they want to quote scripture as if we are supposed to buy into the idea that they have a relationship with God and thereby get our vote that's because Christians we love to highlight the spiritual but we have nothing in agenda for the practical I'm suggesting even Renaissance will see when politicians come up in here we need to hold them to an agenda what do we want to see in our communities otherwise don't come up in here just asking for prayer you better show us an agenda that is what we have presented to you otherwise we're not doing anything I can't think of how many in history and brother Wilson karate test where politician should come here and they want time to speak and they want time to talk about that but what you gonna do and before you tell us what you're gonna do here's 10 things we want to see now this your gender fit this because at the end of the day we're gonna have to hold some folk accountable for policies and for the agenda you sell it we got a president in the office right now who ain't even a real Republican ran as a Republican because he said years ago is easy to run as a Republican but Democrats are actually better he is an opportunist no real conviction about people no real agenda about people it's not about people for him we're living under a presidency that incites racism his jargon his language his disposition his disrespect it's an accepted respect this respect that appeals to his face and while I'm on that malla mornin this president who I believe has psychological deficiency saw a protest and riding in Charlottesville Virginia who were white supremacist and rather than call out white supremacy for what it is he said well you got good people on both sides welcome when this protesting started oh his language was quite different he indicated we need to deal with these thugs we're talking about boys aren't bad we need to do these thoughts and then incited police officers at a rally under the heading of being comical he when you guys get with these criminals don't worry about if they hit their head on the car don't worry about trying to make it all easy for them they don't matter about that you just push them in the car don't worry about if they get hurt or not he insights he encourages abuse of power well I wonder why he encourages abuse of a problem because that's what he's done since he's been president so he encourages abuse of power abuse of authority police officers don't worry about it that criminal hits his head or not let him hit his head that was under the context of being comical ain't none comical about that that's not even a cool joke for president but that's who's in office and his base loves it and the white supremacists lured him and what gets me aggravated and upset is with the african-american as a trump supporter ignores what they hear and have the audacity to castigate the first black president and lord this president I struggle with that somebody said what do you think President Obama was perfect Oh I publicly disagreed with his position on homosexuality from this pulpit but that does not negate that he had an effective leadership and was presidential in his years in the White House so I respect that the first black president even though I didn't agree with all his policies I respect his character I respect the way he'll and I respect his love for people and he ought to be celebrated but we're living at a time when a 40-year tradition of unveiling the portrait of the former president has now been suspended who does that happen to the first black president you gonna tell me racism isn't real no racism is as real it's just become more systemic I'm by car just like you can buy a car I can buy a house is like you and what I'm talking about I'm talking about systemic racism where the system is designed to create a standard that is antagonistic to the african-american well brother Haywood what are you saying be angry not be angry recognize maliciousness where it is and be angry come up with ways to address that malicious behavior be angry that's what you do you'd be angry churches have to stop putting their head in the sand and all you worried about is what we do in the four walls or what we do in regard to worship always got to be bigger than that Christianity got to make his way to the streets Christianity has got to make its way into political circles you can't stop politics Christianity needs to enter politics and impact the environment of politics can't run from it is there you can't run from it so I celebrate our Christian politicians I celebrate them I celebrate those Christian politicians that maintain their Christianity in a political environment you're not gonna be popular doing that but if you're gonna be a politician don't hide your Christianity and don't hide when you're angry so that's not close because I'm angry my daughter said the other night while all this was going on she said it to Sony and I believe she expressed it to me she said I just want daddy to be able to come home I just want daddy daddy calls and he works out late he works hard he goes in the church he works to school he's a lot providing a lot doing what he has to do what he's one day to do come on I don't want my last memory to be I'm leaving no he can come home a 13 year old in 2020 but not have to worry about if I'm gonna come home not to this that was her perspective so dr. Heywood what's your message today be angry sit not be strategic I understand the frustration but after you've done all of that what's the long-term strategy because one of the things we do redundant ly as redundant as these things happen we let it die out we're angry momentarily but I'm talking about dr. Heywood I'm not even castigating us as a people at this point I'm talking about me right now I'm talking about me I'm talking about hey dr. Heywood is this gonna happen today and die out for you later or are you going to put some things in place that ensures that the church's voice is heard in a political arena and is the church gonna be present wherever injustice shows up in our content or do you just get ready for worship next Sunday what you're gonna do now dr. Heywood I mean you what are you gonna do what are you gonna do Shepherd's what are you gonna do what you gonna do deacons what do we do what do we do what do we do what do we do we be angry with a nod and we be strategic and so by my prayers right now go out to the whole really the whole country but there have been multiple cities that have experienced what Atlanta has experienced multiple cities my hat goes off to the mayor of Atlanta cases doing a great job she's doing the best that she can under the circumstances she's given my hat goes off to the merry met that the the mayor of the city of South Fulton my hat goes off to those who work politically in the arena members of our church that work politically in a climate like this my hats go off to these people my hat goes off to every law-enforcement person in our church and in this country and of course of course the United States I'm thankful for law enforcement that ain't my issue my suit is not law enforcement my issue is the abuse of power and I do believe there needs to be an agenda that the checks and balance that vets police officers to ensure not only are they properly trained but they are balanced in their mind I haven't forgotten phalangeal touch steel I've forgotten that I haven't forgotten that man having a licensed firearm told the police he had a licensed firearm the police asked him to get his wallet and when he reached for the wallet the police panicked shot him several times watched him die in the car in front of his girlfriend forgot magne I used to say I'm trying to close good I'm angry I used to say if you comply with police officers you will suffocate or you will avoid being harmed I said sometimes that works out that way sometimes you can be compliant they still don't work out no guarantee there's no perfect procedure there's no perfect methodology there's no perfect kind of technique you can follow law and it still don't work out so what do we have to do Christians be angry said not remember how we've been taught by Christ I can't abandon my Christianity because of chaos I gotta bring Christ to the crisis but I ain't gotta be passive I can be active I can be strategic and I have permission to be angry I've got permission to preach against anything that is anti gospel I'm gonna do that next Sunday next Sunday I must show you racism is anti gospel and every Christian ought to have it is every Caucasian preacher that is a gospel preacher or to be preaching to your congregation the malignancy of racism every Caucasian preacher if you call yourself a gospel preacher what are you saying to your trash cuz you won't always let me in there your folk may not want me in there well what are you gonna say to them and let me say while I'm on that I applaud Caucasian preachers who have stood against racism I'll call out publicly right now Don McLaughlin of North Atlantic Church of Christ that man loves people he has stood against social injustice he has shown a sensitivity to the plight of the african-american and he has preached against white supremacy and he's preached against white privilege that's the kind of man I'm talking about that's the kind of fella we be and that's what we want done so Christians I'm done what do you say to this dr. Heywood where are you on him angry that's where I am today be angry be angry I'll tell you what there was another point on my slide I didn't get you but it's important you can't be selective on which injustice you stand against that can't be selected so you got to be as angry when an african-american murders a Caucasian probably lost all the audience but I'm a Christian I'm a child of God I am a gospel I need to be just as enraged when any ethnicity any person within an ethnic group is it in some way discriminated against it's an injustice injustice because God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son whosoever I like whosoever whosoever believe your cousin whosoever God so we have been Justin shows us it is a Hispanic if it's a person of a way being descent leverage soldier is it justice it just so happens that right now and many times before it's an african-american and I refuse to pretend like I'm not black because I'm a Christian so be angry and signa if you're here today and you want prayer we're gonna pray for you this you're online and you want prayer we're gonna pray for you go back to your congregations come up with a plan come up with an agenda come up with how you're gonna impact your community and how you're gonna stand against injustice should I do you need to put together a committee of people who will focus on injustice you need to have it you need to get an agenda go back to your churches and stand for what's right you're Caucasian if you are Hispanic if you're in a church of a different ethnic group stand with us because it could easily be your turn that receives racist behavior or discrimination same with us be sensitive to the plight of the african-american be sensitive to the plight of the African America be sensitive to it want to pray for our sons and daughters because they got to go out into a society that's not friendly toward them young man I'd hate to tell you this today but in this society and in this world black young man you got to be better than your contemporaries you got to be exemplary because even when your exemplary foot will try to treat you like you're average you don't have time to waste you gotta learn how to be careful no one to speak up no one to be quiet young lady it's time for you to realize that you're more than your body you're more than your size I need you to start realizing how to exercise your intellect for you are black and you're female and foot will try to use your gender and your blackness against you you got to be better than everybody in your circled no time to waste you want to know what you're doing a time like this be angry but make sure your anger is constructive develop yourself prepare yourself and strategize how am I going to conquer the obstacles that are in my way be a great I simply angry be angry but aim your anger in the right direction be strategic prepare yourself for we are in battle what we are battle for dr. Hayward women battle for significance brain battle for valued how to play something else I want you to be careful I have to be careful that you can't expect people to value what you don't value so if you don't about if you don't value your blackness nobody else will if you don't value who you are it's hard for someone else to give you the value that you don't see in yourself learn how to help some self-respect be angry be angry be angry be angry be angry be English be angry be angry be angry be angry be angry be angry be angry be angry be angry be angry be angry and Sid not praise the mighty name of Jesus yah yah yah yah yah yah we're grateful for all of you who have tuned in today if you desire to be baptized for the remission of your sins and come into the body please make that known and the right person will ensure that they contact you those of you who may be watching this morning we ask you to be prayerful for our country if you have not had an opportunity we want you to make sure that you invested the kingdom this morning I believe the giving link is in the chat and it's not there make sure you go to Renaissance Co c.com and make sure that you give to the kingdom of God we're trying to do several things here at this congregation that we're hoping will be beneficial we're trying to position ourselves financially to be helpful at a time when this economy is in a steady decline so we your kingdom investment is much appreciated we're even trying to start a movement in a fund that we'll be able to help churches who are less fortunate who are in danger of closing down we're trying to make sure that we position ourselves to be helpful because we believe it's not just about us it's about all and so make sure that you are investing in the kingdom of God we want you to give to Renaissance generously so that you can position us to be helpful toward others and we would certainly appreciate that may God bless you today may God keep you please do not mistake my comments about our President to mean that I don't pray for him i hack chiliedu I have my strong opinions about him my strong perspectives about his presidency and I maintain those and so we are living at a time when we have never seen a president such as this in terms of character and this display I find his communication to be abrupt I find it to be disrespectful I find him to be arrogant I find him to be a person when he communicates his derogatory and this is the kind of president that many people accept on the basis of him being in favor of whatever policies that they believe is in harmony with their agenda and so I find it troubling to say the least that our country has declined to this place where under this presidency we have seen an encouragement of racist dispositions when I mean encouragement I'm not saying the president gets on TV and says be racist I'm not saying he gets on TV and says don't like people who are affected other ethnicities that's not what he says it is how he communicates about other ethnicities that has such implications about his own mentality and that incites the base that he appeals to and so I am disturbed in every way about where our country is we are not only in the pandemic of a virus but we are reminded of the pandemic of racism and all of it is happening in 2020 I mean simultaneous we have you ever seen a year like this I've never seen a year like this in all my life my 45 years as an extra I've made my 45 years I have never seen a year like this one never never say nothing like this and if you see any of you at home you can't hardly go out like you want to and then some degree we still got a social distance and man this thing will depress your spirit you can't even turn on the TV and be at peace and if you turn it off is too quiet you can't keep the TV off you can't put a little you quarantine I mean it's it's a tough place to be you go out in a society that's gotta wear masks all day when it does something psyche your spirit is impacted and infected by that you can't go to a restaurant without a man you go in Walmart I went to wall reasons morning masks here class there I mean it's a whole different world trash will never be the same we gotta sit in church meetings and try to figure out how to come back in the building how we gonna do the chance how spaced out do we have to be do we use this room and the gym how do we do it do we man how to improve do we wear gloves do we have the conversations we gotta have today it's unreal I'm working in a school system that's trying to figure out do we have a hybrid cutter program where we got one or two days in school and the rest of the days out of school diner we do do we have to keep going online do we just keep everything closed until 2021 well when the back seam gonna get here is it safe to take the vaccine who want to go first I mean all these these are conversations it's a depressing time and these are those moments when all you can do is pray but after you finish praying you gotta use wisdom and you better be active and you gotta survive with the help of the Lord 2020 I thought one preacher said man what do you think about 2020 I said man it's like God put 2020 in his pocket and left that's my that's my that's my explain God God God till 2020 folded it up put in his pocket and said y'all talk to me when y'all ready unless it's like 2020 is not even real I don't know what year it is eight twenty twenty something else it's like 2019 and a blank so any final announcements amazing word this morning let me go be angry we we look forward to
