got the better fried chicken Max's or jolly beans yes the Battle of the International Filipino restaurant change let's go are you doing the Filipino martial arts is that it no Kylie is like this let's check on Max's fried chicken [Music] alright guys so we're here at Max's chicken this is round one we got all the chicken dishes in the beginning Max's is known for chicken right that's why we started with round one being all the chicken dishes I'm not gonna lie I didn't know what an axis was a lot more non Filipino would know jolly was just because of its commercial success I think mash is more for your like real Filipinos they they know the chain from back home because that's I think there's over 140 Max's just in the Philippines alone I saw a lot of nice families like coming out in expensive cars in the parking lot do you think it's for people who are like they want some of the food that you might be able to find it in the jobbies but like they don't want to be in that environment yeah alright guys so right here we have the full chicken we have the half chicken I mean this chicken order looks a little different in Java yeah I already see Java bees the chicken joy it looks more like I mean these all are artisinal chicken death give me the fresh fish everybody gets a half though of course you got the banana sauce the jus Fran so how you say it before all the Filipino viewers skewer me for mispronouncing it I'm just gonna say I don't know and the chicken here you don't eat it like with gravy and mashed potatoes as much Max's chicken alright naked now I like how there's so little batter on that but it's falling off the bone I heard it's brine it's a little vinegary that's not so tender it's such a different experience than a mmm then chicken joy a chicken joy to meme is more based off the American fried chicken southern Tennessee style front right it's not like your your typical fast-food 12 blends and spices the skin is not super thick it's not too spicy obviously you don't see that spice like injected into the chicken you know how sometimes you see the layers of spice into the fast-food chicken falling off the bone look at this look at how our works are oh look at that it's just if you want a chicken done right and fried well I would describe this this is a chicken dinner there's that chicken chick there's chicken joy up jalla B's and there's chicken pieces but this is a chicken dinner yeah all right last last word on Maxis Fried Chicken guys is it better than Dolly's how about this no it's not better I'm not saying it's worse I know what you mean it's hard to compare it because one has bad or one doesn't one has more flavor but ones higher quality there baby use the stimulus of better yeah no it's not it's not clearly better my opinion is and I know I don't wanna have to do this but like obviously in a way it's better I mean it's it's better quality it's super tender I enjoy things that don't have bad or - I love highly battered chicken and and anything else and fries and stuff but I mean to have something so clean and still juicy and tasty I mean it's impressive i'ma say gun to my head or like stuck on a deserted island I closed my eyes and I picture a fried chicken the one I want to eat is this one all right I will say this is like it's this is classy I just feel whenever I go to a fast-food joint I feel so heavy after eating and I know this is still fried chicken but like the eat ability factor for me is here rather than chicken I can have like a couple pieces of chicken joint this I could demolish probably another full bird that I agree with yeah we're not even through the chicken that was worth the conversation though we had to talk about it in depth so I've never had chicken sissie when I started on the menu I figured we had to order it because normally we need a port state sig it's like a lot of the cuts on the pork head from the snow - now at the jowl ears kind of a lot of weird facial parts so obviously chicken ceasing I'm sure there's nothing round up and there's not beat but they did add liver long and I am a very big fan of chicken liver okay the dark part is living a little bit River that's a chicken liver not winner winner chicken dinners winner winner chicken liver all right chicken ceasing regular kid himself okay so the first thing I hit you how did you get the oh the chicken flavor but like David said this is like vinegar eat and I kind of permeates like to the whole entire like buy it and then there's just like a little bit of kick one more guy got a liver up in there right that is by far the most interesting chicken salad I've ever had this is also the only chicken salad that ever even with rice yeah so from chickens today something that we never tried before so they're going to chicken adobo with a classic chicken adobo man you know I thought it was interesting because there was an egg on chicken get you in the baby head this is the one pull when they go to their Filipino friends house this is what this is a dish that's on that this is a dish that everybody asks no this is like the one that is cooking when you walk into the house yes like the mom is just say oh I got adobo and you're like tight Max's chicken adobo I might just have to go in with my hands guys going full full okay Oh Filipino food I mean the vinegars there mm-hmm the soy sauce is there it's chicken I don't know man like there's nothing else you can really say about it it's very homey you know there's kind of a lot of dishes in the world that can taste like chicken adobo between the vinegar and the soy sauce and the stillness of the chicken um would you guys say that is one of the less pungent chicken adobo as you've had in terms of like hitting you with that but yeah Pacquiao vinegar right hook this chicken adobo I would say like it's a lot lighter it's like I feel like if you ordered it it's gonna be the same like every single dipper I have the formula down at the point go down like cheesecake ever were to become that ethnic where they started incorporating ethnic dishes I would imagine that the best Cheesecake Factory chicken adobo would taste like that yeah all right we got to compare Max's Filipino spaghetti to Jalla B's Filipino spaghetti okay but here we're at a sit-down restaurant here we have the Filipino spaghetti I can tell you right off the bat not as meaty not a saucy sketti me bro yo I just said sketti me bro is that you that's not the first time you've said that that's how your other side talks I know Filipinos I'm Skippy me bro max the spaghetti versus Jollibee spaghetti I like how the sauce cover all the noodle all the noodles it's a lot more balanced than the disparity from Jollibee less sweet west we still very sweet though but a little less tangy less of it tomato taint yeah immediately guys I'm not burning B's is better job is better I'm with you I'm team Jala bees on the spaghetti team accent because it's 2:00 tomorrow I don't have to be a sweet tooth right and for me the Jolly spaghetti it's just too sweet I felt like this was more balanced I mean at the end of the day at the end of day it's just sketti right like when judging spaghetti you're just gonna say oh yeah it's just steady it's sketchy everything's skin scary scary scary scary but what's difference bro skinny it's close guys we are in a spot where they also use it as the set for fresh off the boat oh man that is true so this is obviously nuts guys this is the lumpia not on the menu Liam Pyongyang Shanghai obviously I do think actually that these came over from Shanghai that's why they call it yeah like Filipino food as we've talked about it before has multiple influences China being a big one Spain be a big one even Japan to certain extent like after occupation Oh Indonesia Indonesia as well all the Filipino foods give me a mix of different cultures lumpia shanghai new serie cently jo koy started the egg roll battles I challenge any goddamn Asian family with your egg roll Chinese out your egg roll lumpia vs. you're gonna bring it bring your egg roll [ __ ] and then and then Eddie you gotta come back and save your hey Eddie said Amen those are from China royalties on half everything I don't really compare lumpias with other egg whites because there's so much smaller and the composition is different yeah and you dip them it's like tough for me it's tough to like really compare by the way guys this is the most famous type of lumpia the shanghai lumpia mm-hmm but we got another one here I believe that it's less popular lumpia who bought boarding and um there's even more kinds than this this lumpia is actually filled with a heart of palm shrimp and pork and it's topped with like a peanut sauce really reminds me of our like a Vietnamese summer roll Monty what my hand man I'm gonna pull pull Manila on this heart of palm I don't know if I ever had but there's like bamboo I almost don't want to call it an egg roll I'm so confused right now because I'm looking at it and I'm seeing something else but what I'm tasting is cheese yeah yeah what I noticed about max is and I don't know if you guys agree with me or not what would you do dis very inoffensive yeah like there's no way you can dislike it right yeah for a nice family dinner like you definitely kind of mash them Emacs is a chain right so they're they're trying to pump out food for the masses I think if you're not in LA like in historic Filipino town like there's not as many Filipino places to go to so this offers you that kind of like slice from home and they got a very expensive-looking karaoke system there have definitely been some karaoke Wars in this room somebody has left hurt and being like oh no the other guy he beat me today I left my parts on the floor we gotta say guys guys this is it's every there's so many comments last video because we were saying Kalibak Kalibak pad see palpable hollow bo pansy ba la la you know what I don't even know what that's 100% right but we're almost there plus it Hudson this one crushed LA this is where your flavor okay this from what I had ranks up there naturally I think for traditional I got it going for some more I'm just gonna stamp it right now if you come to max and it's obviously get the chicken but please you would be remiss if you did not get the problem that's a gigantic I don't know what kind you know the chickens were small but I don't know it was kind of a pig they got this off of okay when rip this you just gotta crispy pata alright guys so here's a vinegar do you dip this first I grew up my grandparents at Woodside Queen my grandparents are my Filipino son from Lola my Lolo and we would go out to eat how on we've got Filipino barbecue and then we would order this dish that's really good that is some of the best crispy parts off handling and like that was sitting there for like ten minutes first and it's still yeah you're peeling it apart it's sticky because of the collagen and you got this little cell it on the sword this in the foul ball the battle ball and this crispy pata they were in my top tier yeah like oh three different teams any Filipino restaurant that you know I personally got it yeah here this crispy guess what guys we have the Katya Katya scary bro oh yo you guys are little punk fans and you're like no no it's spaghetti every cuisine has whoa whoa whoa whoa hold on there Andrew hold on what before you say that I cut it which is the shirt paste it in Oh bad dog so this is gonna give it like a little bit of like seafood shrimpy taste know what I love about shrimp paste them in and add something so unique that you don't find anyone anywhere else except for like dried shrimp things yeah I'm not gonna lie right I didn't get any ox tails anyway I can't judge it oh because Papa Connie Connie said that really go mmm smooth shrimp is in general though have you ever tried another dish that had a peanut butter you like there might be like an African stew to me I would just pass over and not because I would be like oh my god you'd be like yeah whatever you know from what I read Chinese immigrants have been coming to Philippines since the 1600s yes and they're becoming in different ways first it was the Cantonese then it was people from Fujian okay hook in and it was just like since then it's just been kind of like rolling right now this is kind of like Chinese I don't even want to say it's Chinese Filipino food me this might be chinese-inspired Filipino food this is salted fish fried rice this is Chop Suey stir-fry which is vegetables you have some poor if you have some shrimp this is sizzling tofu on us hot sizzling plate okay and then you have the pence it can't on which is I mean I would assume the Cantonese pence it you know has egg noodle more Chinese yeah - take care tom I didn't know what to expect before you know like maybe it's like a town man or like a low main think it's using the e foo noodles save it there a little bit fluffier and lighter it's a very Cantonese noodle it is very Cantonese easily it's better than a lot of Charming's um that you get and I like that the Filipino style who gave you the lemons because you crush the lemons that's another layer of flavor yeah it's that sutras verse that you're talking about well the thing is like when you're eating things so heavy you need some type of like asset yeah for citrus to like cut through fat alright guys here's the salted fish fried rice and I'm I wanted to get this because a lot of Chinese people and particularly Cantonese people eat the salted fish fried rice not popular just to have in Chinatown I taste different who's not that same when I grew up eating it have some of this salted egg in there David did you notice yeah the salted egg is a popular thing to be eating in Chinese and even a lot of Southeast Asian cuisines too so I'm not gonna lie policy like there's not that much salt the fish in there and this is like I went with the tofu next your this sizzling tofu was a twist it's like got some like creamy coconut in there woah this is different does it you know tofu is Chinese but I almost want to say like a sriracha mayo type sizzling plan there's definitely vinegar in it no there's there's heat at the back of my palate when we ate the chicken [ __ ] that probably is more similar to the tofu version of the chicken see see that we got ya similar sauce on it doesn't say almost like a tangy ranch yeah I like this like Filipino China Express food better than a lot of like regular just trying to express spots new new idea I said a pan Express we open a Filipino Express Oh or manila manila Express last but not least we got the chop suey all right guys is that funny how David we're eating some kind of Chinese dishes but there's no chopsticks present because a lot of Filipinos just don't use chopsticks on top so you confirm this utensil right here that's the chopstick this is your everything I'm not using your hands you're using your spoon how's this chop sweet you see this flavor looks very light that tastes like really just like Chinese American yeah Wow what was the guy's favorite I gotta say for me it was the king daeso yeah these two our fire I'm gonna roll with this one dark and sit can't on I think it took some of our really good elements of Penn State rather than just what a food oodles I mean it's pretty good and not normally like another big fan of tofu so I might have to go with the tofu only because they had that wow factor like I put it in my mouth and I was just astounded I'll just like whatever yo you know what you you said I heard you say it when you ate the tofu is it skinny bro all right everybody we are on to dessert for what we have in front of us we have the coconut pandan it's got pendant in a coconut ice cream a little bit of coconut milk my Eastcote yellow which is corn ice cream with there was literal cheese in here your classic hollow hollow will be ice cream at the bee Lodge shaved ice jelly over here we got the Sabich on yellow Saba is a short Filipino banana death a God makes no the starts by hollow hollow makes my gosh got mixed this I'm so pleasantly confused this tastes so good but it's so weird I gotta say you guys don't try this this is one of the best pan yet and ice creams I've ever had yeah y'all get up the sizes guys you gotta find it I'm trying to put the cheese to where we're going crazy over this she's wrong it's like cornflakes cheesy milkshake yeah she's place in a milkshake oh yeah like and the chief of the use it's super sharp yeah I get the very sorrowful he's very pronounced I can't stop eating it is kind of addicting I mean process it real quick the cheese definitely adds something because it's like after you get through the iciness of the corn you get this like chewiness from the cheese and like it brings like a full bobby kind of salty taste it when it first came out museum you gotta add add sugar to it oh you know this banana though the Saba why the Saba wow it tastes image plane like plantain in a banana hmm it has a little bit more firmness than a banana bananas are really soft last but not least is going on the hollow guys you gotta mix that up more yeah I mix it up more oh you want to all blend it together you guys you don't want the chunks oh oh you got some Christmas colored things in there I gotta say I'm gonna think of Harrison to Jalla B's this just swept the board let's flip the board are you out come I don't like dessert I will come to Max's poisons dirt so now one more look there's this caramel bar I'm going to live up to the dessert expectation also that packaging so you know it's from Max's restaurant look at that right proprietary if you can resell that you know at school they're gonna know what's from Max's David tell me that doesn't kind of taste like okay I'll be honest though there's my least favorite yeah yeah I mean this is the one they give you for free in the combo yeah I got to say this you guys what was your favorite savory dish and then a sleeper I got to go number one Max's chicken I mean I said that it was overall barely beating jalla B's chicken we can say it in aqueous access games now she's not ours fire man there's two things that are tied for the sleeper and I'm sure you guys also acknowledge that they're really good is pence it Paula Bock palava of our book Paulo book book like almost like book book palpable it was that and the crispy pata was like the crispy pata and the chicken I would actually say poly wise are on the same level they're incredible I don't like this God who says god he just didn't daddy why don't you say scary since you liked it so much dude no so I picked happy gotta just be father's my number one and then my sleeper pick it's gotta be the chicken sister oh yeah that was unique I didn't know what to expect there's the tiniest I came out then the he kind of nailed to it is a resident sleeper okay I have to say and I always catch myself in retrospect what did I just continue eating more and more up even though we gotta move on I kept eating the lumpia really well like I got like immediately to me it doesn't maybe set off my brain sensors like as amazing it was good I'm just notice that I just kept eating it right that and then since everybody listed um I gotta give a props to a policy Kent on Pensacola yeah because they just like it was just so like it totally like throw my brain in terms of like I had chow mean from the authentic version to the Americanized version of chow mien I have like 400 times in my life and that's the first time I had it with that citrus kick here at Max's I want to say 90% of the people in here were fun with the business but I think I need to see like tables of say lamps yo you know I just realized why Max's isn't Glendale is because Glendale has a lot of private school Filipinos I feel is considered a upper-middle class be
