with our Filipino friend Ryan Benson what's up guys we're here at Tybee is the biggest Filipino food chain in the nation there's over 1,100 locations of jalla B's worldwide most of them are in the Philippines but they're expanding across the globe right now and we're here right here in LA to order everything on the menu chicken burgers spaghetti not just chicken chicken joy chickens are you guys ready jalla beasts let's go okay we got the entire spread in front of us they're really nice if sona's service is legit yeah like they say hey jolly did have a jolly days jolly days journey look I know they're really jolly it's like poop heroes in general like we all have like kind of like a sunny disposition like Filipinos I've always been like the most extroverted a man as a Chinese person I can confirm that yeah I feel like we got to start with the Filipino spaghetti or that Java spaghetti the Jolly spaghetti is not like your typical spaghetti no that's all eby's here they kind of make it differently the sauce is made for like a banana ketchup and instead of like normal like meatballs and whatnot they have hotdogs pieces in here oh I don't mean to call you out but I didn't get a hotdog yo David uh no there wasn't that many hotdog pieces mob a jolly spaghetti let's try this let's try it [Music] Dody is like very sweet a little bit sweeter but you get that like little bit of my saltiness from the hotdog I will say that a lot of spaghetti in Asia not quite this sweet but share a similar profile I think it's underrated that you can get spaghetti at a fast-food spot in America and it's from the Filipino chain facts someone prove us wrong if there is a fast-food Italian like hey you're forgetting about Gino's Express in Philly South Philly Gino's expressing guys yo spaghetti was a great starter yo I think we got to move on to the chicken joy though this is the pride of JA Levine this right here is why go to Dodge is the spicy chicken joy is my favorite okay fast food fried chicken before the original before the original it's interesting you're talking about fried chicken burgers spaghetti hotdogs punts it all at the same spot chicken joy even though I know gravy is a big thing I'm sorry KFC I'm sorry Mama's chicken joy oh my goodness this is the best fried chick we're in the graveyard oh my gosh I have a pool of gravy inside of my chicken joint out I'm so glad we came here that's insane with the gravy boy for sure not really good up there anytime I go to that Darby's the chickens always so juicy and succulent scatter one I've got to be some of the best fast food fried chicken Bar None now say the spicy one has more flavor but what's the one that goes better with the gravy is the original dogs just though I give it at the end of the day chicken joy five out of five then call the chicken joint for no reason this guy mr. tan when he was inventing jalla B's he knew what made it joyful I give the chicken five out of five I get the spaghetti joy it's funny it kind of grows on you you have to get over the fact that it doesn't taste like real spaghetti right it does it it doesn't but it doesn't mean it's not good try this mash a lot of flavor like mashed potatoes and corn like no matter you ago it's gonna be good so we got a burger state here it comes with like their special sauce and then mushrooms and then we got the fries with you - what burger stick is wet let go since that hamburger patty so it's kind of like a local Mokomoko burger steak with mushrooms the softer they have an accuracy besides the team joy this sauce like always brought me back I'm not as big of a fan of just a straight burger patty but dipping the fries in that sauce fire we need me getting drinks the pineapple Oh duh buh buh they got over here my panda moving a pro cooler here's guys here's them have a jolly day I'm a jolly when it's in the name you can't do much but say it the bun Oh your bun got taken away from you wow that's really sweet with the pineapple there's a brioche bun compared to like like wrestlers I feel like there's always a menu like items on the menu that you don't want to order ok when I come to jolly beat everything it's just good is it kosher [Music] 3.5 out of 5 I would say that one for the uniqueness I want to give it a 4 out of 5 just on how the burst of sweet pineapple the Filipino culture condiments are huge you whether it's banana ketchup or sweet chilli sauce whatever it is for the election I think that's what super sukkah the vinegar but you snip it just dip it always good chicken sandwich [Music] there's one thing about filipinos we love garlic yeah we put garlic in every day it's definitely one of the traits of Filipino cuisine I love is the amount of garlic and the grape you got to do the gravy test everybody make sure you do it the Raby test the gravy did something oh it's a bursa savoriness was not overpowering it only enhances internal I might be because the amount of sodium or MSG in it what it enhances everything good yeah yeah adobo rice obviously been to Tokyo this house before but the one thing that their mom like always makes like people always ask for is a chicken uh no it was nice but and ER and ER you are treating that like truffle butter I don't know if it's the jolliness of the gravy but it's just everything's good everything's good everything's good let's we got to try this kolobok kolobok fiesta it's gonna have pecan noodles in it shrimp meat eggs it's been more traditionally like kolobok is traditional dish and like what you're supposed to do and you're supposed to get like a little citrusy hint we put it on the other Papa put a little bit of lemon juice and kind of rinse out like yeah this doesn't have lemon juice on it that one does but I would say this totally looks like that dish that's sitting in like the heated Tim Tim yeah big tins at the parties that everybody's grabbing at so let's try it not expect out I like a shrimpy serve it with that of all the things that we have the flavors were kind of very savory but this one gives you that shrimpy flavor which is something you really don't expect from a fast food spot no it isn't and like you also get like the little bit so like chee cheong that are on top like and crunchy bits like though it's really doing a lot for me texture wise all right now I want to try the one with lemon because I could see how lemon would fit nicely on that lemon but the lemon the lemon has this palette bar no tasting totally different right I give this 4 out of 5 yeah okay I got a nice little chicken finger or a here or chicken dippers not chicken tender so you a honey mustard a ranch guy for your tenders ranch honey mustard all the way new little kick to low kick hmm I just think to have a rave dish I will say that for a bathroom spot this got dishes because think about you walk in here and you don't know that John Ibiza is from the Philippines right you just bow they do spaghetti a little differently oh they do burgers are looking like all I do chicken just a little differently what's up with the spot anything like oh it's from Asia it's from the Philippines so that explains a lot it's great that like everything is here because it gives you like a little snapshot of home especially for all that LA immigrants all the folk and immigrants out here in LA it's like having a little tea so home java dog ballpark ranks with the cheese in the middle but deconstructed with the cheese on the outside it doesn't matter getting the got the gravy treatment I don't want to say everything needs to be dunking gravy but it's not wrong last but not least we have the desert sand oh no you know why you know the job is is it's gonna happen ice cream Java these originally started as it started as ice cream parlor in the Philippines originally these thing oh hi it's not the gravy train it's the ice cream treatment oh here we got the hallo hallo of course the classic and then ice cream sundae we have the quintessential Filipino dessert yeah hallo hallo and for those of you who don't know hallo hallo means mix mix so a lot of people mess up hallo hallo when they get it they just eat it straight up that's wrong you got mixed it up mixed up I have my own method of doing it I like to go like this you really get it like the little chunks like from the bottom up and kind of this like bring it up through like that to the truth ice cream roots of Jovi's is on full display in Indonesian mix mixes Dada yeah they have so many different cultures like influencing them you know it's crazy because I think when you think of a fast food chain coming from Asia and making its way in America legitimately which geologies has you would think maybe like a Japanese chain like Moss burger or something right but really jalla B's made it first Filipinos have such a such a prized really Filipino things so I you really kind of have this cult following Apollo geology is like from the Philippines when people look at jolly B's fried chicken I think the first thing that comes to mind is like okay they copied America so that's why I think for Asians we eat so much fried chicken of some version so that when we get the American version whether it's KFC or talipes or McDonald's we're just like oh this is like a version of fried chicken already like favorite favorites chicken joy I thought the way that breading encapsulated the drumstick hey I'm saying I thought this was a good I just thought it was a shape and texture matter all right so first of all when it comes into chicken joy like I said spicy by itself or original in the gravy okay I think that's how you got to eat it I would say the Aloha burger was delicious I liked that one have fun with that yeah yeah the Aloha burger is kind of my sleeper pick I'm all about the spicy chicken joy like if I'm eating my fried chicken I don't want to talk it in the gravy I like to have it like nice and crispy I'm sorry that's sorry don't apologize to me oh my posit what you want to say about the people who dunk everything in gravy say what you want to say about those type of people whoever they are and whatever that implicates about I they I guess the big picture takeaways John what do you what do you hope for John B's future in America I'm either expanding I think because jaggies has such a cult quality as it is come every single time a job' has opened up at least on the East Coast it's been a big deal like it's made new ya man because I'm like the cult falling and like the fact that they're fried chicken is just so good legit like I don't care who you are unless you're vegetarian ain't no way you're turning down some fried rice she went done right yeah I think they're gonna be doing I think they're gonna
