Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain Trade Laughs, Talk ‘The Martian’ | TODAY

an astronaut gets stranded on Mars and has only his wits to rely on for survival well that is the premise of the new Ridley Scott film the Martian and two of the movie stars are Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain and I got the chance to talk to them about bonding in space you ready okay okay you guys are real buds here second film together we have 10 minutes of screen time in this one yeah we've done two huge movies together but you don't spend a lot of time together sadly our characters don't really get to interact and then in this one we have like a couple scenes together yes we were like risked our lives so when there is something that brings you closer to someone you're like we could die we could die we could again tell you sell a movie that's good that's good flying around in these spacesuits we couldn't move it all starts though with the storm scene and I understand there's a lot of bonding that happened there through the microphones in your helmets day one there was a lot of below the line humor going on yeah we it's it's a bad idea to give actors their own comms link when you have Michael Payne yet here narrating the situation he's a funny guy you can get a little funny yeah what was it like working with with the crew it was great we all got along really well there are a lot of dinners and then they left and then we left them and I was all by myself and there were no 3-hour dinners I gotta figure out a way to grow three years worth of food here on a planet where nothing grows I mean I'm gonna embarrass you a little bit but not really is the combination of a chameleon kind of yeah factor in the sense that I'm kind of a lizard exactly how do you think of the informant and you know talented mr. Ripley and behind the candelabra all these different roles he's able to kind of shed his skin so yeah he's someone I've always wanted to work with what do you have to say about working but you don't have to bet I don't really want to do this I don't think I see a lot of improvement you kidding she's one of the best ever so the zero gravity scenes that you were talking about I mean it's basically done with you on a wire but if your dance skills came in together right well you have to I guess be aware of what your body's doing it's like doing the slow-motion ballet having said that I felt like my dance really helped me in do your ballet my ballet I'm self-taught but I've put in a lot of time and I think when you put in those kind of hours it doesn't matter if you've never been taught what's my own your own technique yeah okay that's why you look so fluid fluids one word that you describe me and there are others as well based on current escalation estimated force of 8,600 Newtons what's the abort force 7,500 you said you're a fan of science fiction Matt you were as well yeah a huge fan of science fiction but this is kind of interesting because it's really grounded in science this movie's supposed to take place in like the very very near future like within the next kind of decade or two so the science needed to be really rigorous it's like science faction you know wow that was really really clever I'm Harvard boy oh boy I got this well you guys you guys are so much fun together we want to see more of it so please Matt start writing something so we hug it's already we've already taken a lot of pictures back-to-back yeah we have they keep putting us back to back like this and we're like this is like a romantic comedy poster and then while we're sitting there we come up with titles together so that's the title for them well we got to mix in something with today right so we're very good writer here today gone tomorrow we've got the poster we just needed movie to see the script but that's the easy part trust me the script is just come like that we want that movie don't wait here today gone tonight and she writes that movie blockbuster got the movie posters made up for them already by the way the Martian which is the movie they're in this time around opens up Friday we do want to mention the interview was done before Matt's controversial comments about gay actors also in diversity as well no it is a great film y'all can't wait it looks on very good well hello today fans thanks for checking out our YouTube channel subscribe by clicking that button down there and click on any of the videos over here to watch the latest interviews show highlights and digital exclusives
