Math Bakery Classroom Transformation | Teacher Evolution Ep 39

so I'm gonna do like a mini classroom transformation but this is what the classroom looks like I think it came out really cute they're doing rigorous activities but it's engaging for them [Music] good morning YouTube I had a very relaxing and just much-needed weekend here's what I mean by that typically I have been doing my editing for my thoughts on Saturday night because I moved them to Sundays because I was trying to edit on Friday nights and like I was just exhausted it was not happening so I decided to move them to Sundays however this weekend I decided to go ahead and do my editing on Friday night and it was a little bit of a struggle of it's kind of fallen asleep but I got it done and I was really proud of myself and the reason for that is because Saturday was dedicated to Billy and I so lately I just feel like I've not been making our relationship as much of a priority as I should because I've been focusing on other things I've been really busy and like I did not want that so I took this Saturday and it was all about him and I we made breakfast together we just enjoyed like time inside together I did go for my run and then him and I had like a date night so we went out to dinner at LongHorn Steakhouse came back home we did her first date box which I got him Aesop's well him and I a subscription for for Valentine's Day and our first box came and we did that and it was awesome I post about on Instagram if you want to see more about that and I also have more information on my mail haul which is coming up soon I show you like everything inside the box it was so much fun and then after that we ended up doing a puzzle and it was just so needed and then my Sunday's are always the same I get up I go for my run and I lesson plan like that's basically all that I get done but I was actually excited to lesson plan yesterday because I have something at fun of my sleeve today and something pretty cool for math class so I will show that to you when I get to school [Music] [Music] all right I mentioned that I had something fun planned for this morning so let me kind of explain first of all lately I feel like I've kind of gotten stuck in a rut where like I'm not excited to teach my lessons because I'm not really planning I mean I'm planning them but like I'm going off with a curriculum because that's what we're supposed to do we're supposed to follow our curriculum we don't follow a national curriculum our county has its own curriculum and we are supposed to follow it and I've just been doing that but I have felt a lack of like creativity whereas when I taught second grade like I had a lot more flexibility with what I did with the material making it fun and making it engaging and like I have not really had that as much and so I've been struggling and it's been frustrating because I'm like well if I'm not excited to teach a lesson like how can I make my kids excited to learn it so I am deviating a little bit but I think that it will be a good thing quickly our curriculum follows a conceptual fluency application like pattern so we typically start with a conceptual lesson which essentially introduces new information to them then they will have a fluency lesson where they practice it and then they will have an application lesson where they are doing like a real-world problem now sometimes it goes like conceptual fluency conceptual fluency application sometimes it goes conceptual fluency fluency application like it varies but that's the basic pattern that it follows today is supposed to be an application day where it's a real-world problem and I looked at the curriculum and the problem that they had the kids doing it was just lame if I'm being completely honest it was talking about them like building a table I'm sorry what fourth grader do you know is like building a table out of wood not very many and I'm like my kids are not going to relate to that and they're not going to be engaged and I just don't want that like I want them to get the most out of this lesson that they possibly can so I am deviating and I came up with entirely just my own lesson and I'm excited about it and I know my kids are gonna love it and like that's what I want to feel as a teacher I want to be engaged myself in the material that I'm gonna be teaching them because I know that that will make them engaged so I'm gonna do like a mini classroom transformation I say mini because I'm not going all out like if you guys have seen my football classroom transformation I'll link that for you all in the description box that one like I went all out and we used it all week long today this is just going to be for today so I am keeping it pretty simple but I'm going to get it all set up during my planning time the only thing I'm gonna do this morning is move a couple of deaths because for this lesson my students are gonna be in three different groups so I'm gonna move some desks around to kind of just recruit them but otherwise the rest of the setup will all be just during my planning time so I have an hour of planning time today that should be more than enough to get it all ready but I will go through and show you everything and show you how simple this is and my plan is to get this product put up in my TPT store because I know I'm gonna have a million questions about it's like that's my goal for this week is to get that up for sale for you all because I know that you all will be asking for it and honestly I think that it's like a really good lesson this morning before my kids come in I'm gonna go ahead and move those desks and then I'm just going to kind of get myself together and ready so that during my planning time I can be as productive as possible [Music] captain [Music] so let me go ahead and show you the actual tasks that they will be completing so this is the actual like instruction based portion of it and then I'll show you all the fun stuff to go with it but I made this up over the weekend and there are three completely different tasks in order to make it differentiated so I have basically one four like below level on level and above level but I don't really like to use those words because just because a student has difficulty with like in this multiplying a whole number by fraction doesn't mean that they have difficulty with other things and like my groupings for students change literally on a daily basis I take notes and I figure out my groups based on that but I have three different groups so I have decorators which will be my group that's working more on just like unit fractions and then a little bit with non unit fractions my cupcake bakers which they will be doing multiplying non unit fractions by whole numbers and then my cake Baker's just have a little bit more of a challenging task so let me kind of show you each one piece by piece and for each of these I do have an answer key like right on the back so first of all my decorator so they're gonna be doing two different tasks they have to figure out the number of ingredients for the cake icing and then the cupcake icing so with the cake icing these are all unit fractions so a unit fraction is just a fraction with a one on the numerator and for each one they're gonna figure out how much would they need for a two layer cake and a three layer cake because this recipe is for a one layer cake then once they complete that a little bit harder for them they are then going to be working with some non unit fractions which is just a fraction with the numerator greater than one and this gives them the recipe for one dozen and then they have to figure out three dozen and five dozen so here they're multiplying all these by 2 and then by three here they're multiplying all these by three and by five then my cupcake bakers which they're kind of like my group in the middle so they have to figure out the cupcake batter and then the cupcake filling so for the cupcake batter they have their five ingredients they're working with non unit fractions and this is a recipe for six cupcakes so they're gonna have to figure out that for 12 cupcakes they have to double it or multiply by two and then for 36 cupcakes they would have to multiply it by 6 or they could take this fraction or mixed number that they found and multiply it by 3 so they have two different options there but it's just a little bit more challenging because it's not just straight multiplication they're not multiplying by 12 and multiplying by 36 they have to figure out the relationship between six and 12 and six and 36 and then same thing for the cupcake filling they have 12 cupcakes and 36 cupcakes then my final group my cake bakers are making a three-tier cake so this is a little bit more challenging again they are working with non unit fractions and they have a recipe that serves a three so they're gonna have to figure out what ingredients are gonna need for a tier that serves six so they're gonna have to double all of those are multiplied by two a tier that serves 12 so they will have to multiply all those by four or they can double these numbers and then a tier that serves 18 so they will either have to multiply this by six or they could add these two together or they can multiply this one by three so again there's like different options for them and I think that they will get this hopefully pretty quickly so then to challenge them I'm then gonna have them add up all the ingredients so like how much flour do they need for the entire cake how much sugar do they need for the entire cake how much vanilla I always have little tricks up my sleeve just to kind of make it a little bit harder so I went ahead and as you saw I moved my desk into three groups so this group over here will be my cake Baker's this group right here will be my cupcake bakers and then my back table will be my decorators now my decorators will really only be for my block one and that's who my ta is going to work with and then in my block two I'm only gonna have cupcake bakers and cake back to talk about some of the fun stuff I wanted to make some decorations to put up on my door just to get the kids excited but again I'm gonna wait until I pick them up from cultural arts like I'll do this while there aren't cultural arts so they don't see it first thing this morning and they have no idea so I made this sign it says come in we're open because it's a bakery and I just feel like I had to have that this will be included in the product in TPT and then I just took one of these like chains I hole punched it and I just hook the chain around it so this will hang right up on my door and then I printed out some letters and I laminated them and I'm just gonna tape these up on my door it says math bakery and then this little sign will go underneath baked fresh daily again these will be included now these are all black and white and the reason I chose that is then you can pick the color so all I did was printed black and white on two colored paper so that way you can use whatever colors you want to use or if you just want to use black and white you can just use black and white but I chose to go with blue pink and yellow and then cuz I moved my desk my kids are gonna come in there and be like where do I sit because my seat is gone so I made these little like name cards and shout-out to mr. pocketful of primary slash Billy who folded all of these for me I cut him apart and then he folded them so each one of these has their name so it has chef and then whatever their first name is and then at the bottom it tells them what their position is so it either says decorator cupcake Baker or cake baker that way they will know which tasks they are working on and I color-coded these so you all know that I use binder clips to differentiate assignments from my buck one in my block two so I use pink four black one and blue four block two so I went ahead and used those same colors so that I know which group to put out at what time so now let's talk about the computer a little bit I made a safe share of this coffee shop music so that just allows it to play without ads and this has like four hours of music so that should be good I'm gonna have that playing like the entire day it will be playing when my kids come back from cultural arts and I'm not gonna like show this that's just gonna be playing in the background and then this is going to be the Google slides that I have so when they come in this will be on the board it will say welcome to the math bakery come in and find your name card put your things inside your desk then I'm going to go to this slide where I kind of give them the directions so it says congratulations you have been hired to work in the math bakery put on your apron which I will show you those in a minute I'm really excited these aprons belong to the math bakery and are not yours to keep treat them with respect so my kids are going to be using these in both my blocks plus I'm going to keep them afterwards so I don't want my kids to like ruin them at all and then I said each of you have been assigned a position decorator cupcake Baker or cake baker you will be working in groups to complete your task given to you by chef array you will have the entire class to finish your task do not rush so I don't want them to rush through it I want them to really take their time and then I will have this this is just a timer that I inserted from YouTube now I have created my own timers but I've only created them up to 30 minutes and I wanted to give them like a good 45 minutes to work on the task so I just downloaded this video from YouTube and then inserted it into the presentation so it will have like their baking time left and that's the amount of time they have left to work on the task and then at the very end I want to give them an exit ticket for a grade so they're gonna complete a bakery exam so it just has one simple word problem very similar to the task that they're completing so it says now you must pass your bakery exam you will complete this exam independent you will turn it into the block bin when you were finished after you have finished take out your agenda and they have to write their homework leave it out for me the check and then just read a book while they wait for others to finish I just took my students to cultural or arts I made sure that they had nothing on their desks cuz I'm gonna cover it with the tablecloth so now it is transformation time [Music] so I'm going to show you all the basic setup I'm holding on to their papers until I like introduce it but this is what the classroom looks like I think it came out really cute I mean honestly this did not take much time at all it took about a half an hour to set up and I did have to get some of the materials like on Amazon but it really was not that difficult to do I want you buy the materials once you have them forever so I just ran a white tablecloth across actually had to use two tablecloths per group of desks and then I have one on my back table that will be for my decorators I wanted to actually just use like white bulletin board paper but we don't have any so I used tablecloths instead these little aprons were in a 24 pack on Amazon for about 15 16 dollars I will link them for you down in the description if you have a class of only 24 or less and you would only need one pack and that's only 15 dollars because I have so many students I did have to get two packs but like I said I will have these forever so like it's totally fine and then I just have their little name cards out that tell them what their position is and again I color-coded those so my black one is out now and I will put block two out later these little things up flowers I got these a really long time ago from Dollar Tree so the vase was from Dollar Tree the little pebbles on the insider from Dollar Tree and the flowers are from Dollar Tree I originally got these for doing muffins with mom which I did with my second graders and then I actually had these over on like my windowsill area for decoration so I just took them down and put them on the tables and then just to help myself keep it straight I have like little cupcake tins here because these are my cupcake bakers and then I have cake pans over here because these are my cake baker so honestly this was really easy to set up and then I have my slide on the board all ready to go for when they come in I'm not playing the music yet but I will be so just to show you all like doing something like this to engage your kids does not have to cost a lot of money it does not have to be super hard to set up it really can be this simple and then in terms of my outfit so I have this real cheap $1 chef hat that I found at Dollar Tree I have my apron that I brought from home that I wear and then I have oven mitts that I also got from the Dollar Tree and they will be referring to me as chef array and then I will refer to them as chef whatever their name is just to make it a little bit more fun I will probably break out a French accent here and there but overall I'm just really looking forward to this lesson looking forward to having a good time with them I know that they will enjoy it they're doing rigorous activities but it's engaging for them so here's what it is like with the music I have everything set up I have my board set up I am set up and I'm just waiting for my kids to come in I'm honestly just really excited at this point and I will let you all know how it goes at the end of the day alright one totally last-minute thing when I was at Dollar Tree over the weekend just getting some materials I saw these little die-cuts or just little cupcakes super cute ten of them for a dollar and I grabbed them and I was like I have no idea what I'm gonna use these for but I know that I need them so I was senior thinking I had 15 minutes left of my playing time and I was like what if my kids finished like those tasks that I give them like I want to have something ready as extensions for them so I decided to just quickly type up these little bonus tasks so it just has extensions this one's for the cupcake so how much of each ingredient would you need to make batter impelling for 96 cupcakes and then like this one for my cake Baker's it says now calculate how much of it each ingredient you will need for the entire three-tier cake so then they're adding fractions up as well so what I'm going to do is I'm gonna flip these actually with it fit here I could I could put it on the front or I could put on the back like that I guess I'll just glue them on the front like that I'm gonna glue them and then I'm gonna go ahead and laminate these that they are nice and durable and I can use them again in the future so I have completed it with my block one and then we did science afterwards I just took them to lunch and I spent the first part of my lunch time prepping it now for my block too so I just had to put up the aprons again and then I had to put out their new like name cards and all that but we're ready to go now for block two I think when my block one comes in from after recess like I'm just gonna tell them to get their stuff and like we're gonna get into line a little bit early we're not gonna really do anything in our seats cuz obviously this is all setup and so far we've just had one apron that got knotted too hard and I can't get it out I told them to keep the top part knotted so they can just like put it right over top of their heads but then the back part they were supposed to tie it in a bow and that did not happen and it's now on a knot but that's okay it's all good so let's talk about how it went overall I loved it like I had so much fun they were all super excited like seeing their faces first they just saw me dressed as a chef which there's some what used to buy now but they still were looking at me like why are you dressed like that and then once they saw the classroom like just seeing their faces light up knowing that they're engaged my kids all did a phenomenal job I will I'm super super happy that I prepped these like bonus tasks right before they came in because I did end up using them so I made two bonus tasks for each different group so two for the decorators two for the cupcake bakers and two for the cake Baker's and I did end up using them not every student needed them I only gave them out to a couple of students but it was perfect for when they finished their activity to give them an extension I'm really really happy I will include these in the TPT pack obviously this is like the cupcake from Dollar Tree so I will like put them on a cupcake that you can just print out and like cut out and all that good stuff but I'm just so happy with how it went like overall I just had a phenomenal job and I cannot wait to do it again with my block too so I only have like 10 minutes left in my lunch time after I set all that up I'm gonna go ahead and eat and I'll catch up with you all at the end of the day it is now the end of the day it's been a little bit hectic just with everything going on like it's been fun don't get me wrong but I finally am sitting down and can take a breather so in my block to the math mercury went over really really well I think my kid has really enjoyed it I was really happy to have those bonus activities because my block two students definitely needed them but honestly it all went over really really well they were able to help me get it cleaned up it only took a couple of minutes to like throw away the tablecloth put the flowers back and have them give me back their aprons all that good stuff so super happy that I did this now I have it all for next year which will make it that much easier I am gonna try to get it ready to put up in my TPT store for you all hopefully before this video goes up but be patient with me I'll keep you updated oh right after school I had to go to two girls on the run typically I change clothes and I change into like athletic clothes but today I couldn't because our ta actually left in the afternoon she was not there to take students for dismissal and it was just even more chaotic so I did not get a chance to change but it's okay I am done with girls on the run it's like 5:30 I have to go get my run done go home I need to plan math for tomorrow hopefully work on getting the math bakery up in my TPT store all that good stuff so I'm gonna go do all that and I'll catch up with you in the morning so I'll be honest I'm just gonna leave my desk like this I mean I kind of cleaned it up I like put it in the corner the rest of my desk is pretty neat but I just don't feel like staying and cleaning this up tonight so I'm honestly just gonna leave it here and then I guess during my planting time tomorrow I will figure it out [Music] good morning YouTube today is no makeup didn't do my hair don't even care did it mean to ride in there but here's why number one it is pouring down rain and it's supposed to pour down rain all morning it's supposed to switch to snow in the afternoon and then it's supposed to snow all afternoon all night and like all of tomorrow I hate to jinx myself but I feel like there is a very strong possibility that we will be off school tomorrow it's kind of crazy because today is the first day of spring yet between tonight and tomorrow we're supposed to get like 3 to 5 inches of snow totally not completely we have one snow day left built into our calendar so we started with three we've had two snow days so far so we have one more snow day left I will gladly take it tomorrow because that brings me to number two I am so tired and I don't even know what came over me it started last night like I got my lesson planning done for today and literally by 10 o'clock I was like I'm done I can't function I was just so tired so I did not get the product worked on I did not get a video edited or anything because I was literally just mentally and physically done so I went to bed early I got mad at like 10:30 slept in super late this morning and I slept in until 7:10 and usually after I get up like I'll be tired at first and then like I'll wake up and I'm fine no this morning I'm pretty sure I packed like half of my lunch with my eyes closed and that's not even an exaggeration I literally packed half of my lunch with my eyes closed but I have collaborative planning with my fourth grade team this morning and I'm gonna go get coffee because I am this tired and you know what thinking back on it I feel like it's because of the like mini transformation that I did yesterday for some reason those days are a lot of fun but they are so much work exhausting and I think because like I'm excited about it all day and then it's finally over and like it just hits me it's almost like a sugar crash kind of like that so I'm gonna go get some coffee get to school and I will catch up with you all there good morning can I get a medium hot lucky was the same in flavor please thank you [Applause] so I did decide to leave my desk like this I made a seating chart for my two blocks for homeroom I just let them sit wherever they want because they're not my room very long and I'm going to make a seating chart for them I just didn't have time yet but I wanted to quickly show you I turned my small group table it was the other way so I turned it 90 degrees made it like this I still have enough room till I get in on this side and overall I just think that I like this better like it does cut off the one side like obviously over here I can't have anyone sit there but I think it would be easier for the kids to get around the table because before when it was turned like the opposite way it was kind of hard for them to get in behind the vent and I wanted to free up some space over here because I have something exciting coming in the mail this week you all will have to stay tuned for that so I had an awesome special delivery this morning a bag full of Reese's and it's I know it's hard to read but it says all for you best Tuesday ever all right you all I am awful but I can't be the only person that does this we don't get snow super often and if we do it's usually like a dusting so when we know that we're getting several inches of snow it's very exciting and I literally just spend yea good 15 minutes my planning time looking at different weather reports and comparing them and all that nice can't hold that like the fact that I know snow is coming is just so exciting and we have one snow day left and I'm just fingers crossed that we end up getting it I definitely think we will like the closer that it keeps getting the forecast keeps going up and up in terms of the amount of snow that we're getting it's now saying like three to five inches I've seen five to like eight which I don't think is gonna happen I'm in like the three or five range but still I'm waiting to see if we're gonna get an early dismissal I don't think they're going to but it's supposed to start snowing like right around dismissal time so I guess it's a possibility that they could dismiss early because they don't want that to happen during dismissal I don't know we shall see I will catch up with you all during my lunch time it is now lunch time unfortunately no early dismissal but that's okay I have to say I am actually really liking this desk arrangement I wasn't sure about it like I knew it they're probably gonna be chatty just because there's so many of them like in a row however I am really liking it I think once I gave them assign seats that helped my block one since I don't have as many students I actually left a couple of deaths open like in between so I almost have like a front group and a back group in each of those like big rows of deaths and I just love that I can like see them all clearly they have more space so they're not like pushing their chairs into each other I just I really like it so far we'll see how it goes with block two but I'm gonna leave it this way at least until spring break and then I'll reevaluate if I need to move them but funny story times so science today we're doing an experiment on conduction so basically they wanted us to have a hot water like in a beaker put a spoon in it and have them feel the handle and feel how the temperature changes because the heat from the hot water transfers to the spoon because it's a conductor well funny story our science lab does not have beakers so I was like okay it's fine I have a glass jar I'll just use that instead and I got out a hot plate so I'm like let me put you know water in the glass jar on the hot plate well it started like making this weird like I don't know what was happening to it but I'm thinking because this was like cheap glass that it was not the right kind of glass I don't really know I don't fully understand I'm sure I'll have someone comment and explain it to me but it was like making a weird noise and there was like water like almost like coming out the bottom and I was like what the heck so I picked it up and I was like let me take it over to the sink and as soon as I touched the jar in the bottom of the sink because of the rapid temperature change because the jar was really hot and the sink was really cold as soon as I touched it the whole bottom part of the jar just like sliced off so I now have that and I have the bottom part of the jar like oh my goodness so that did not go as planned but you know what that happens when you're teaching and it actually still made for a really good conversation I'm like you know what kids this is science but I have no idea what I'm gonna do for my block - I may be winging it a little bit that's okay I'm gonna go ahead and enjoy my lunch we will have indoor recess so I already only have like ten minutes left in my lunch and I know I'm not gonna finish it but it's okay because I will be able to finish it during indoor recess a life update it's the end of the day and I know you're probably looking at my glasses and going Michelle your glasses are extremely crooked yeah I know because after school the side of my glasses just completely like broke off I was literally standing there talking to my team teacher and all upset my glasses just like tilted and I was like what the heck and my earpiece was just completely separate and it's not even that a screw came out the screw is still in here but it just snapped off so that happened I on my way home I'm gonna try to stop at and eyeglasses place and see you like what they can do to fix it I do need to get my eyes checked anyway so I guess the timing is okay but obviously if I get my eyes checked and I get new glasses like it's going to take a while before they come in and I'm gonna have to find a way to fix these until them because these are my only pair of glasses I literally don't have any other glasses so about that I don't really know what I'm gonna do in terms of my run for this afternoon because obviously I cannot run with my glasses like this like they're gonna be bouncing all over the place and I can't really run without my glasses because if I'm running on a treadmill like and I can't see anything it's gonna be very disorienting and like I just I don't know so we have to figure that out but it has started to snow everything is very like slick and kind of icy outside we did not have an early dismissal but I'm thinking there is no way we're gonna have school tomorrow because now they're saying we're gonna get like 5 to 8 inches and it just keeps increasing increasing and increasing which I'm totally not complaining about so I am bringing some papers home with me to grade but I'm not gonna hang around here because if the roads are getting bad I need to go ahead and get out of here especially if I need to go to the eyeglass place so I'm gonna go do that if we are off tomorrow I probably will not vlog unless I do work on school stuff and then maybe I'll show you like what I'm getting done but otherwise I will probably see you on Thursday keep your fingers crossed for me that we do have a snow day I literally have the worst luck today first a jar broke that my glasses broke and now the eyeglass case is closed early because of the weather I seriously cannot win today to save my life [Music] good morning YouTube as you just saw it is Thursday which means I did get my snow day yesterday when I was going to bed on Tuesday night I was a little bit apprehensive because it had kind of been snowing like lightly but nothing was sticking but they actually called it on Tuesday night they said you guys are off on Wednesday and that's because of the forecast we were forecasted to get between like five and eight inches of snow woke up on a Wednesday morning of course I slept in him everything was covered in snow I don't know exactly how much we got because it a lot of it kind of blew around and it's hard to actually tell but I definitely think we got a good six inches and it was a real like heavy thick snow like it was a perfect snowball snow now last night they called it for a two-hour delay for today and they said they would really 8:00 in the morning this morning we got the phone call it was staying a two-hour delay they were not canceling I was a little bit disappointed because I was kind of hoping for another day off I mean aren't we all like we all love snow days let's just be honest at least I love snow days and I didn't get a ton done yesterday I had a bunch of like little things I had to do but I didn't get someone like them big things for my list done so I was hoping that we would be off today however it actually is a really good thing that we're not and that we just headed to our delay because we only have at 3 snow days built into our calendar yesterday with snow day number three and if we had been off today they would have taken away one of our days from Spring Break which next week starts our spring break we only have off for three days which it already is a really short spring break and if they had taken that away we would have only ahead off for two days so I know it is a good thing that we're going to school today but still I was a little bit disappointed that's all right I am gonna go get myself some coffee this morning because it's cold out and I just I just want some coffee and then I am going to get to school it actually worked out in my favor that we had a two hour delay today because on Thursdays we don't have cultural arts typically we have study hall during that time and since it is my month for morning work it was also gonna be my month to come up with the activity for study hall but since we have a two hour delay we don't have study hall which means I didn't have to go up with an activity and next week is spring break starting on Thursday so I don't have to come up with one for next week anyway so I'll catch up with you when I get to school I do have time before my kids come in and I'll show you some things then and otherwise I'll catch up Thursday since we're gonna be off on Wednesday and I said sure all right so on Tuesday I showed you the science experiment gone wrong with trying to heat up water on the hot plate in the glass jar so my solution for this cuz we're gonna redo it today is I brought back in my carriage so I'm gonna use this just to brew hot water I'm not gonna obviously make any coffee but that way I will have hot water and then I will just keep this here until my team teacher uses it and then I will take it back home life update it is the end of the day I've been trying to be as productive as possible which means I haven't been vlogging as much when I first came into my room and this morning I got everything I needed to get done to like get myself ready for today I had a couple of copies to make because our TA is not here through the end of the week and after that I had like I don't know 20 25 minutes left before my kids came in so I went ahead and graded a couple of science assignments and got them put into the gradebook then during my lunch time I did have a lunch bunch and at the end of the day I'm like grading party I want to get all of these papers out of here ideally I should have graded them yesterday if I had been a good person I would have used my snow day to grade but I didn't however I got them done today so it's all good everything that I'm grading has been graded and put into the gradebook I do have the math bakery like the paper that they actually did in class I'm not grading that but I do want to check over it and like correct any of their mistakes so I still need to do that I tucked over one of the groups but I still have like my cupcake bakers and my three-tier cake bakers that I need to check over all their work however tomorrow is actually going to be a homeroom day because we have pictures in the morning and the pictures take about a half an hour and two of us are going at eleven and two of us are going at 11:30 so there's really no point in like switching for blocks in the morning because we usually switch her blocks at 10:35 and we would have to be switched back before 11 o'clock so that doesn't even make sense and then tomorrow afternoon our students are taking essay which is reading skills assessment they were supposed to take it today however because of the two hour delay we couldn't so we had to push it to tomorrow and we usually take that in homerooms so tomorrow will be an entirely homeroom day and when my students are taking that assessment in the afternoon I will have time to get sub done because they're just sitting there on the Chromebooks doing it and I have nothing to be doing besides helping them if needed so I should be able to get those papers checked over tomorrow so I feel pretty good tonight I just need to lesson plan for tomorrow and I'm still trying to finish editing my mail haul and I'm still trying to get the math bakery brought up it up in my store but I'm doing the best that I can however I need to get out of here for tonight it's about 450 I told Billy I would meet him at the gym at 5 o'clock I am NOT running outside because everything is still covered in snow it's so I'm gonna go and get my run done go home and be productive and then I will catch up with you in the morning [Applause] [Music] [Music] good morning YouTube let's just ignore what is happening to my backseat I promise I will show you like what all that is and Billy's bring you more after school later on but right now I'm headed to school today is spring picture day so I actually got up at 6:30 which is a half an hour earlier than I usually get up did my hair did my makeup I'm wearing a dress and I'm already regretting it because I am freezing it's like currently in the high 20s and this just was not a good decision then my students will be taking the RSA in the afternoon so when we get to school I will show you what we're gonna have our homeroom students do in the morning I decide just to go ahead and like come up with the activities and make the slides for us so my team teachers didn't have to worry about it so I'm gonna go grab me some Dunkin Donuts coffee and I will see you at school although you have another good morning can I get a large hot cinnamon latte please yes little yes thank you so I wanted to show you what I have my students doing today for our homeroom day so it is picture day and RSA and these down here are just like gifs that I entered and I know some people say gif but if you look it up the person who created Jess says it is pronounced jiff so that's why I pronounced it that way anyway so first we're gonna just have them write an encouraging letter to a classmate so they're gonna be taking the reading skills assessment this afternoon they're gonna pick out a student's name and they're going to write them like a letter and put thought into it and just like remind them of test taking strategies and like encouraging words all that then they are going to make one of these of funky Easter bunnies so I got this from a teach starter I will link it for you in the description it was free and there's this real cute little video that kind of goes through like what they have to do and it shows them like step by step so essentially there is this template and like I said this is free so I will link it for you down the description box but I had seen these like last year I saw them all over the place I saw teachers doing them and I thought that it was a lot more work and that it really was so I never did it with my class last year once I realized how easy it was is like oh my gosh why didn't I do this sooner so this little template each student will get one and basically they will put a different design in between all of the lines on the bunny and then they will cut it out I will let my students pick out like a color of Astral brights paper we will paste it down onto the paper and then they get to pick a pair of glasses so there are eight different designs of the glasses they will decorate those put them on top so so cute I went ahead and just make copies for myself and all of my team teachers so our students will do that this morning and then that way they're not like burnt out before taking their test in the afternoon it is not my planning time I just made a seating chart for my homeroom students which I have been meaning to do a whole week and finally got it done now I have a couple of papers that kids like turned in this morning like missing work or make up work whatever I'm gonna go ahead and grade this and get it put in the grade book and then my goal will be to finish checking these math bakery papers so I have like the answer key right there I have checked all of them except for my cake Baker's which if I don't get this done now it's totally fine because I can get it done at the end of the day when my students are doing their RSA it is now lunch time finally for once I don't have a lunch punch I feel like I've had lunch bunches like every day this week but the morning went really well the pictures took like the same amount of time we were supposed to take them from 11 to 11:30 that's how long it took so that was perfect I had my students start their letters before we went and got pictures they finished them when we came back from pictures and then they've just been working on their bunnies and I've been trying to do stuff around my room as I told you organizing stuff putting stuff away all that good stuff and then this afternoon while they were doing our essay I will try to finish checking over those math bakery papers but overall I feel like I've had a really good day it's just been nice and like relaxing and I've been able to spend time with my homeroom kids which I love like I don't get to spend a ton of time with them but like I love my homeroom class together and I was playing Kidz Bop while they were working on their bunnies and they were all like singing along and I just I loved that those are the moments that warm my heart so I'm not going to enjoy my lunch and then I will catch up with you at the end of the day I'll show you what some of the finished bunnies look like and hopefully I will not have a long to-do list for over the weekend so these are all of the letters that my students wrote to other students in the class this morning just encouraging them before the test I decided to hold on to them and I will give them out right before they take their test this afternoon just for some last-minute encouragement and then while you were working on their funky bunnies I went ahead and cleaned out this blue bin which this was carrying stuff from second grade so it had old keyboards and my students use for word work and it had some books that my students used for like book clubs and stuff that I don't need to keep here anymore so I actually took that stuff and I put it inside of this like t.j.maxx bag I'm gonna take them home and put it with the rest of my stuff that I don't need anymore and then in here I actually fill this up with all of my math bakery stuff so I have the aprons at the bottom and the tins and the oven mitts and all that good stuff so that way I have its own little container with all of the stuff inside it is already the end of the day and I had a little bit of a hectic afternoon so our essay assessment went really well I could tell my students really were trying their best I told them like do not rush like make sure you take your time you have all afternoon and I definitely think they took advantage of that and what made me really happy is a lot of them when they did finish I gave them a choice they could either finish their funky bunnies from the morning they could do deer time they could go on the computer and do math effects in a flash which is our fact fluency program first in math which has some fact flow and say another just like math games or they could take a our quizzes and a lot of my students actually most of my students chose to work on their funky bunnies so obviously they did really enjoy that and you all saw they turned out super super cute so I'm excited to hang those up on their lockers then after school when all of my students were dismissed Billy actually came up because he had to bring some stuff into my classroom you guys have not seen it yet I will be posting on my Instagram on Tuesday so make sure but now it is time to go to the gym I need to do tonight's run then I need to go home I need to finish editing my mail haul I need to edit this vlog and I need to get the math bakery up all before I go to bed tonight because tomorrow I'm gonna get up go for my run and then Billy and I are headed to DC I wish I could say we are participating in the March but unfortunately we are going not unfortunately fortunately we are going to a demi lovato concert which Billy got for me for Valentine's Day and we already had that plan so I'm really excited though for that to be able to spend time with him I have only been to two concerts in my life my first one was Blue October on my 18th birthday and my second one I actually took Billy to see John Legend a couple of years ago so this will be my third concert and any of you who don't know I am a very big Demi Lovato fan so I have a lot to get done tonight and I'm gonna go ahead and get started on all of that if you enjoyed this vlog please
