hello and welcome to out of spec motoring this is part 2 of our cross-country roadtrip this is the fun part this is when we actually get in the car and start driving from here in North Carolina all the way across the country ending in California and then coming back here in the model 3 performance so buckle up hang on tight hopefully we have a great Drive now if you haven't yet already checked out our previous video the first part in this series definitely do that goes through sort of our planning and what we think about what I think about when I go on road trips but I have the camera equipment sort of packed up some GoPros charging that's one of the hardest thing is just keeping all the batteries going and charging to film these road trips everything is topping off I got all my camera equipment packed and stuff here the car I'm gonna go grab it it's on the other side of the facility so let's run over there get the model three get some stuff in it and hit the road [Music] [Music] so I have packed for two weeks 14 days if I stay longer I can always do laundry I have the DJI drone the DJI Ronin some cables my swag cycle although I kind of need to arrange this so I can get the swag cycle out and then easier and some extra clothes and sort of like an overnight bag with some things I'll put the rest of the camera equipment in there and that will leave the interior free we are running like seven hours behind schedule to start even though that we're running a little bit late to start there is no rush here CES is going on four days I'm going to be just cruising along we're not cannonballing this trip it's just gonna be a nice relaxing drive across the country we're not racing any time if I end up meeting someone at the supercharger a lot of people have already reached out I'm gonna meet up with our followers of out of spec which is really cool that you guys even watch us enough to have that we're all cleared out it certainly needs a vacuum oh wait I should put open the front trunk do I need to put the chat mode adapter in the front so that can go right there that'll be nice to have so now the interior is good again I probably will vacuum the interior along the trip if I can find a touchless wash I'll certainly use that because this thing is in desperate desperate need for a wash El Paso Texas that's where we want to go let's think let's look I should say at what our route is gonna look like so it's going to take us Burlington and then Charlotte and down so we're going down this bottom route I have never really done the superchargers in a Tesla down this route before I've done it Lana but nothing west of Atlanta on the southern route so this will be all new for me and pretty exciting it says we'll get there it's gonna take a long time thirty three hours I don't know where we'll stay over but if we can make it to Charlotte tonight that would be pretty good but we'll see how we feel so first stop Burlington will arrive at 7% let's see there is Henderson along the way tons of backup options yeah Burlington is a it used to be one of our only superchargers in North Carolina but now it's sort of no one really uses it because Greensboro and Raleigh and Cary all have chargers but that looks good to me it's 120 kilowatt max let's go to Burlington and we are off just so you can see what we're working with it started to rain and so that really doesn't mean anything it's just kind of annoying it also means a little bit less efficiency so when we would have arrived at Burlington at 7 percent now it might be down to 3 percent because I think I'm definitely going to stick with the plant with wanting to get food here at Henderson you can see it's exactly along the route may as well stop and it's right off the highway it is really pouring rain so let's navigate there and I need to concentrate on the road because on these recent versions of autopilot with rain but you should always concentrate on the road on autopilot that it's not what I intended there but it tends to just cut off sometimes it freaks out so you know the campus become a blanket that's a relatively recent occurrence but it definitely hands on the wheel eyes on the road whatever autopilot II cruising along on the way to Henderson but every time it's go back through our videos I swear every time I go on a road trip it is pouring rain like right over us it was a beautiful sunny day at the track as soon as I get in the car put the cameras in we hit the road it just started raining and now it's pouring rain so I don't know what that means I don't think it means anything other than I choose the wrong time the road trip but let's hope this is just a today thing and we'll have sunny skies for the rest of the trip because it's just I mean it doesn't impact anything it just is a little annoying having to drive it away and here we go just a few miles away from the Henderson supercharger we are preconditioning I don't think the battery is too cold but it is nice to know that it is going to heat up I don't think there's very many people there right now I couldn't imagine yeah five of eight stalls available so we will definitely get an open cabinet get max speeds I'm gonna run get food as soon as I am done we are gonna hit back didn't get on the road first supercharged of the trip we are at 33% so I'm going to run inside we are sharing because everything is iced down here so I'm going to go talk to those guys to even get an open cabinet alright so we're here at the sheets they're having like a car meet which is kind of cool I went over and talked to the guys and I was like let's do a drag race and oh my god we wouldn't win so they're into the Tesla thing they didn't realize that blocking the supercharger spots was kind of like a thing so they were super cool they're all revving their engines I'm gonna go see if we can rest in two just as a fun thing I got snacks water ships a whole bunch of stuff we're gonna go off to Burlington now so let's look here we are pretty much good to go to Burlington we would have made it anyway that trip planners just very conservative so I think we should probably head out because we're on our own cabinet getting a hundred kilowatt I mean that that's not really bad speeds at all so let's let's hit the road this is weird the screens glitching out while super charging I've seen this a couple times not sure why it only happens while super charging it's a software thing okay we're here in Burlington let's get this thing juice it up now this is one of the OG superchargers I have charged here for years and years before there were any other superchargers really in the area this was the only one now we have plenty and while we're here at the supercharger there's a few things I'd like to point out the first is every time we post a road trip video we get like battles in the comments that gas cars are better and I'll never ever buy an electric car well here's the thing there's no question a gasoline powered vehicle today is quicker to go a really long distance with however I would argue during the week an electric car is quicker for 99% of people's driving definitely not mine but other people's that you know you just start every day full charging at home or work it's really really nice so that's my take on it so I roadtrip electric cars because I love the adventure I think it's so cool I'm certainly invested in the technology I think it is the future no question but it's not gonna get better unless we do things like these trips to push the tech for example sitting here in Burlington very old supercharger a little worn down I kind of went down the line none of these stations output full power I'm at the best it's a hundred and two kilowatt and it's going down it's just not great so you know this is sort of where the technology is at it was amazing a few years ago the new version 3 superchargers are just incredibly fast and I'm excited to see the rollout and Tesla really needs to make the rollout happen ASAP so with all that let's go plan our next stop because I'll tell you what I don't really want to sit here too long I'd rather you go to it the 150 kilowatt station probably in Charlotte let's look so if we look at our planned route you can see we're going from here Greensboro is over here and then we're gonna go Charlotte and over I don't believe we're gonna go past the Greensboro supercharger we are not that doesn't look like very long but it's a few mile detour so the next one we're gonna go by is the northern Charlotte one this is a brand new installation that I haven't been to yet but we're not going that way this is again a pretty early install but it is a hundred and fifty kilowatt it's busy now it's busy a lot but by the time we get there in an hour and a half maybe even a little bit longer it's a little over eighty six miles away it should be pretty empty I think it's something like two miles off the highway seemed doable we're in no rush and I'd rather take the time getting faster charging so it says we'll need fifteen minutes we have 14% it's projecting for us to get there with sorts a negative 14% so we need to charge up at least 14% and then probably a little bit more so we were here only for a short period of time and it looks like we have enough juice to make it to the next charger down the road which is Charlotte Charlotte is let's see how many miles away 97 miles we're at 50% we should easily make that no I'm sure I've said this before but everyone always asks when I road trip you can certainly sit here in charge full and drive all the way to maybe even Atlanta maybe not that far but at least Greenville South Carolina supercharger but what's quicker is you'll notice now that we're 50 percent the car starts to slow down charging so going from fifty to a hundred percent takes a lot longer than going from zero to fifty so I keep the battery down here in the low part where it can charge as quickly as possible so let's go we're definitely wasting time because we can make it at 10 percent and yeah that's why you'll see me stop so often it's not because you need to it's just because it's marginally faster than sitting here and doing a full charge it also keeps the trip a little more interesting so let's go to Charlotte [Music] little bit of news I booked a hotel in Greenville South Carolina they have one Tesla wall connector I called ahead I said hey do you have a charger she said what is a charger and then I said well it's this kind of this thing if you just go outside can you put a cone there she says okay I'll do my best and I'm like if there's a car in that spot cuz I'm plug share you can see pictures none of its marked off and I'll be arriving pretty late I asked if she could block off either the spot next to it or the one after worst case will run this thing right up onto the curb and plug it in I mean I have no problem doing something like that as long as the hotel says it's okay so that's where we're gonna stay in Greenville South Carolina which is fantastic better than I was expecting originally no no issues so far on the trip we're almost to Charlotte alright so we do have the cabinet to ourself that table next to us was on the ground which makes me think that station wasn't operating because that other car moved we're getting pretty good speeds down here at 2% that's about all we can ask for I think this is a gonna be a great great charging station and charging session I should say and then we're going to the Windham garden that has the charger as mentioned so let's see exactly how many miles it is over there we do have quite a bit of a headwind I just checked the windy app great app if you're road-tripping it's a hundred miles so let's get fifty five percent state of charge before we leave so as our state of charges increasing so is our charging speed on older charge profiles this used to pull a hundred and forty five kilowatt plus from 3% onwards I've talked about this before on newer ones that weights to eleven percent and yep we're at one hundred and forty five kilowatt now and it might be to protect the battery could be to protect the supercharger handles because you have to dump a ton of amps and to give it that much power when pack voltage is at minimum and what would happen is the cables would get so hot that because of all those amps that after you'd hit like 20 25 percent it would cut your charging speeds because of a hot handle so you'd have to unplug move and then you'd go right back up to full speed but it is a little chilly out there forty six degrees F and yeah this is a perfect charging session couldn't ask for anything better than this will charge up just enough to make it to the supercharger if needed but hopefully just the hotel for an overnight charge and you really can't ask for anything better than this just pegged at a hundred and forty nine kilowatt it hit 150 for a short second but that's this is great can't complain absolutely love it this is as fast for those who don't follow Tesla stuff that's as fast as these version two superchargers can charge this car the version threes can do 250 kilowatt but it is still such new technology there's only a couple installs out there so this is as quickly as we are likely going to see this entire trip until we get to Las Vegas and you'll see here the car thinks we can just make it to the hotel I'm gonna charge a little bit more just because why not we're not in a huge rush anyway you can see we've already started to taper here this is probably due to temperature I think it starts to taper off the peak at 44% although that did just get a software update so they could have gotten even more conservative either way this is not slow by any means but it is certainly not peak it used to just sit maxed out until like 55% it was so great back then but that was like six months ago during the summer time but I think Tesla was just pushing the supercharger equipment too hard there goes a Nissan Leaf but they do not have their headlights on huh perfect car to commit a crime in is an Eevee because no one can hear you coming but you also can't get away very far in an early Nissan Leaf like that anyway yeah let's take another five minutes or so and then we'll hop out of here [Music] and we are in Greer South Carolina this is where BMW has their factory 4 X 3 4 5 6 & 7 so they're bigger SUVs this is their offices here for those that don't know I'm a huge BMW fan and worked for the company previously and this is one of the coolest facilities the factory is absolutely amazing they have a great museum and then the BMW Performance Centre is right over here now my biggest problem with BMW and just BMW group in general which includes the many motorcycles mini and rolls-royce here this is the BMW centrum and this is where the museum is a very cool building absolutely love it that's a great display if you haven't been in there my biggest problem with BMW group is purely their a lack of effort and v's they've definitely gotten the plug-in hybrid route which is I think not really necessary I think we really need to focus on full electric vehicles yeah so anyway they'll come around to it one day but they are super behind as are the German brands but I think Volkswagen Audi Europe is going to become the leader from Europe in electrification but time will tell and charger is right over here next to these bushes I could be completely wrong but fingers crossed and they put the cone up and we have charging great news we are at our hotel in Greenville South Carolina they really did put the cone up I did not expect this they've blocked off the spot so I'm gonna move the cone put the car there charge up it's at 6% it's 11:35 p.m. or so I'm gonna go to bed and I'll catch you guys in the morning good night good morning I had a great night's sleep got a little bit of work done it is 825 in the morning the car just completed about 20 minutes ago at a hundred percent so we shouldn't leave it there long we should get in go and I think I look at a map I know I looked at a map but I think I want to get to Dallas today it's like 900 miles I think that would be a great goal to stretch it to we're gonna get in the car find the closest Starbucks and then hit the road [Music] alright let's say we got a hundred percent charge century mode let's put in El Paso doo-doo-doo-doo for those that don't know while we're waiting century mode monitors the car while it's parked I really don't use it often unless I'm parked in a public place so let's see Atlanta Birmingham we got spots in between I imagine can we stretch it to Oxford no we cannot so 237 miles I think we could do it maybe if it was not 38 degrees or if we had a long-range rear-wheel drive we could do it but the performance maybe not so we will take the cars advice go to Atlanta but let's throw in these GoPros in the mounts and hit the road okay we are all tight and ready to rock and roll so alas what Starbucks is across the street I know I've mentioned before this isn't a habit I'd like to break which is my giant Starbucks drink but I will work on it soon I would just like to point out why I love it lighten us so much we're doing 95 miles per hour with some lady in an x5 everyone else is doing the same speed and just people rip and we're literally almost downtown it's amazing well we are at the Atlanta supercharger I have never been to the supercharger before I've been to others in Atlanta I knew this one has existed for a while but it is kind of annoying to get - you have to pop off the highway go back the other way like a mile and a half and then you get stuck in in traffic in the parking garage if I had a long-range rear wheel drive and it wasn't so cold out even if it was this temperature I would have just blasted past this one and pushed it to the next charger I think was Oxford or something that's past Atlanta so this is the if there's a weird layout I guess it pulled through stalls so let's see one B 3 a they're all like I don't know what's going on but I guess we'll take this one here is anyone else on one what A's open so we'll have the cabinet to ourselves all right well we are ramping up here we drove 151 miles from a hundred down to 15% that is not great mostly down to our driving style almost 390 watt hour per mile and looks like we'll start hopefully ramping up a little bit past this pack could still be a little cold did not precondition but we'll keep an eye on it and I don't know if I guess these are all version what like twos I hope I don't know version ones aren't really round I should say software limited version twos but let's go down the line and see what's up to El Paso what the cars probably gonna want us to do is do a long charge here and then stretch it what I think we should do let's take a look this supercharger is right off the highway but it almost looks like it's right in the highway so I think we go to this one next let's just get just enough juice to make it there we need about let's say 25% or so added so we'll leave right around 50% when the car starts to taper and yeah for some reason we're not getting great speeds on this one but almost every other cabinet is taken right now so this is as good as we're gonna get which is it really is totally fine well we had a fun little rearranging of all the cars here so everyone can get some faster charging but we are going to make it to Oxford now at 50% so we're starting to pull back that's actually not bad but let's get on the road no time to waste I'd love to make it pretty far into this drive today so let's get some pavement under the tires [Music] [Music] welcome to Oxford Alabama kind of a cool install the superchargers go all the way around this nice Center thing the car is looking good let's go see if we're ramping up on the charge we're at 5% play before I run and go and get some food let's come up with our trip plan so we are here in Oxford and this is our route along i-20 now there is no supercharger along i-20 this Birmingham one is on this outer loop it's really not that far out of the way if we go through the city but this is the quicker way to do it now it this route from here to Meridian let's just is let's see how many miles that is because that is gonna be a long charge here to avoid this one so let's see the distance 205 miles we are gonna need a hundred percent charge to make that in this temperature at these speeds and you know of course I can always drive slower but traffic's going 70 miles an hour minimum that's how fast the trucks go maybe 75 and would be kind of dangerous to drive slower than that plus it's not that fun so I think we hopped to Birmingham we'll take the outer loop and then go around this is likely going to be quicker so let's see how many miles it is to get there 63 miles it's kind of a short trip will charge probably we'll take the as much juice as we can while we're getting it and as soon as we start to taper believe and go to firming in the car went to Firehouse Subs always a great spot not a massive much however I'm gonna have to just nibble on that on autopilot as we go of course paying attention we are charged up to 49% we're tapered down to one hundred nine hundred and ten kilowatt we can easily make it to the Birmingham supercharger with 20% so right now we're just wasting time let's unplug get to Birmingham and get this trip going so far it's so great [Music] to Birmingham Alabama this is the deep south of course but a beautiful city a lot of history here so I'm told and I don't know much about it but it seems like a cool place I mean this is beautiful the sign says uptown so I imagine that's the part of town that we're in and that would be down town I assume on the other side of Uptown it only makes sense so all we really need is their electricity and that we will be getting out of here but what a pleasant place to be while we charge a lot of construction going on looks like they're under some expansion this part of the town now straight ahead looks absolutely gorgeous you'll see it as we drive through here oK we've ramped up to a hundred and ten kilowatt we'll keep an eye to see if it goes any higher not sure why it is that low it could be that the pack is still a little bit cold or the cabinet's just a little unhealthy but now there's more cars that have just showed up like three rolled in at the same time so we're lucky no one's parked next to us but no chance moving here so hundred and ten kilowatts is still pretty fast let's look at our trip plan going forwards I think this was the charger it wanted us to stretch to so route planner is correct there let's see how many miles it is there's really no way unless we hit continue trip so 145 miles we're gonna need like a 60% ish charge from here all right well I just topped off a call so that was perfect timing we're charged up 78% the car things will make it at 14 I'm guessing we have plenty of range to go even at a little bit higher speed so let's unplug let's get going and um I'm just loving road tripping it's my favorite thing to do it's much [Music] if you watch any of our roadtrip videos up to this point you know I have a really bad time pronouncing town names and you know there's so many different towns I you know whatever but I think I've been saying Meriden Mississippi but it's actually Meridian I didn't see the second eye in there sometimes I don't catch that letter so just putting that in there before everyone comments on that please feel free to comment either way but we are heading to Meridian Mississippi I have to say with the winds and the speeds we were going that is great efficiency we basically sat it again 85 to 90 the whole way that's the best efficiency I've seen at those speeds out of this car we got a good one we're juicing up pretty good once we an 11% again this will max out let's take a look at our next plan so it wants us to go to Jackson there's nothing in between so that has to be our next stop so let's take a look at how long it will take to get to there we go oh is it Pearl yeah I guess Pearl is Jackson or at least a suburb so it wants us here for about 20 minutes we'll probably stay a little bit 92 miles so we'll get 50% and leave right as soon as we taper that is perfect and then we're off to the next one can't ask for anything better than this we are charging up here in Mississippi great weather it's like 65 degrees out here so this is a very cool install I really like this layout the pullthru 's are great especially of your trailer because you can just pull in and there's plenty of room doesn't look like this mall is really you know well visited I don't think malls in general or in the US are being well visited recently but this is perfect if you trailer you just pull in and back out so great install in New York in California they put cars inside of malls in Mississippi they put go-karts ATVs and dirt bikes gotta love it alright I'm heading back to the car now I don't know if the malls being condemned or under construction for something but it took like 15 minutes to find the rest removes all the way on the other side of the mall so I'm pretty sure we'll be pretty much ready to go once we get back the car all right we're at 51% we'll make it there at 10% I think as expected we should be good to make it a hundred and twenty-three miles projected if we keep driving how we were and it is only 92 so let's hit the road [Music] pearl Mississippi let's go we had pulled in at five percent which is perfect we should get a pretty good speed maybe 120 kilowatt or sewed around here maybe 110 let's see what it goes up to yeah very good so all is on track let's take a look at our next stop on the way to El Paso let's see Pearl Monroe is there anything in between here and this one no so that's definitely gonna be the next oh my gosh 210 miles with no superchargers in between you could not do that in a Model X 60d or even like a standard model 3 is it really that far oh no there is one in between that's gonna say that doesn't that wouldn't make sense there we go 112 miles we're definitely gonna stop at that one so cuz it's right off the highway it looks like 150 kilowatt max boom how many miles does it get 112 I think 117 we will charge here for let's say until 60% and then we'll go if we weren't really trying to get anywhere I'd ride the little scooter over to Bass Pro Shops because you are not an American unless you love Bass Pro Shops they literally have pawns with boats inside of there and fish it is so cool absolutely an amazing showcase of products I really love it anyway we're running into this much more boring clothes strip outlet and hope we can find a snack just popped inside they had a food court eat this real quick the cars ripping 148 kilowatt as we speak so let's have some pizza and get on the road grab the water finished up the pizza we should be pretty well charged by now some we're around forty five fifty percent I think it was a great charging session monitored on my phone car is projecting nine percent arrival 133 miles if we drove how we were and 117 to go so I feel pretty good about going let's just check the trip right here make sure there's no huge elevation dips what you would see here is a huge drop this way consuming power for having to go up hill is what we would be looking at but everything looks pretty good it looks like we may have one but then you go back downhill so it looks relatively flat and round just because I'm not familiar with this area and our next stop is going to be Monroe Louisiana and then I think we'll have one more in Louisiana and then we'll be in big old Texas [Music] [Music] we are going across the Mississippi River here and this is a important River because it's one of the most well known rivers it's also a nice barrier point all the way up just separate sort of east and west of the US but what's interesting is we were just crossing this river in our previous roadtrip really far that way up north in I think about where we were Minnesota st. Paul Minneapolis and that was literally the same River just like a couple thousand miles that way and maybe not that far but pretty far where it was like minus 4 degrees fahrenheit now it was pretty chilly and so now we are in Louisiana welcome to our next state on the trip and yeah can't ask for anything better crossing the Mississippi at sunset pretty beautiful all right we just pulled into the supercharger in Monroe Louisiana we're at 6% man this is such an easy trip absolutely loving it just hopping from charger to charger it is the quickest way to travel you don't have to do it but it is the most fun juicing up there is kind of a cool install so this whole row I imagine was through earlier and then oh it could be wrong that's one a and B there so hmm that is a I've never seen two posts on one side and then the rest down this row but hey it works the car still looking good no no problems let's go take a look at our charging speed we have plenty to choose from if one of these is slow and there we go we're at the maximum speed at this state of charge that we can get man we've hit some great superchargers on this trip 120 kilowatt at 6% as I always say hey earlier about six months ago it used to do 145 from 3% but we already talked about that so let's let this thing ramp up I don't think there's really much to do around here hmm maybe I should hop on the swag cycle and explore a little bit let's take a look at our next stop before we do that so we are heading to this one whatever that is Oh Trevor Shreveport Louisiana sorry if I'm mispronouncing that and another eighth stall we have how many miles to get there let's find out 99 miles according to this let's cancel out the trip and select continued trip it's kind of a weird thing so a hundred and four miles of road driving that 99 miles was just as the crow flies we will probably need 55% to go oh yeah we got the scooter out let's go rock and roll and explore this place it looks like kind of an empty mall we'll look a little weird doing it but hey that's alright oh yeah this is the way to travel I can also hook my phone up to this thing to get a little bit faster speeds as well so that's pretty sick we're out for a nice cruise on the swag cycle just explore it not much to see around here back to the car because I got to use the restroom we are charging up at a hundred and forty four kilowatt can't ask for anything better that's the red model three that we saw earlier at the last supercharger time to unplug oh that's a warm [Music] we are at the supercharger in Shreveport Louisiana pretty cool signature Model S those are very rare very got one of those instead of our P 85 plus and we're plugged in let's go make sure we wrap it up well we are juicing up getting great speeds as Matt you know following the max of the charge curve this looks like a pretty cool supercharger but I don't think there's anything open it's not very late it's only 8 o'clock p.m. but yeah not much going on just us and that signature red Model S charging over there so trip planner is doing a really good job here of actually having us hop from charger to charger which again is the quickest way we're only spending 15 20 minutes at most at each charger and then hopping right back on the road so I appreciate that let's just put in this next charger North up zoom out so we can see exactly how many miles away it is I believe it was this one lyndale Texas was it pretty sure it was let's just make sure lyndale that's right ok so let's select that another 150 kilowatt unit very good remove charging stops that's how we have to see how many miles 102 miles they're literally evenly spaced across which is great so again we'll charge up to about 55 ish percent and then we'll go well man these stops are going by so quick we're charged up estimated nine percent 102 miles we're at 56% we will easily make it there again we're not going for maximum speed that's why I'm charging just a few percent more for buffer just in case and also no reason to just keep running it 2-0 miles or 0% if I don't have to but you know I'm totally comfortable doing that but we should be pretty good here so let's unplug silver is the best color for Model 3 I'm bummed they got rid of it time to unplug and go [Music] [Applause] [Music] we are now coming into Texas we will be in this state for a long time for those that don't know the United States Texas is massive it goes on and on and on and on and it's a fantastic state some of the best cities are here in Dallas Austin is a new huge tech capital coming in and it's a great great place to be but it does take a long time to get through Texas look at how big this thing is we're over here in Texas goes all the way over this way so buckle will be well acquainted at the end of this trip I've done this drive before not in an electric car and a gas powered vehicle years ago I drove all the way through Texas and now it's [Music] all right we just plugged in at this cool bakery I've heard of this place you get like a Tesla key you show your Tesla key and you get any coffee or tea on them this is a really cool bakery it's actually a beautiful building and they're closed now of course it's almost nine or ten o'clock let's take a look to see how we're charging looks pretty good down low let's shut off climate no need to use any juice kind of a cool installation though because there's for a and B so there's total chargers and then the rest of the chargers are around this side of the building let's run over there and I'll show you and then if you look over here the rest of the Chargers are here so that's kind of interesting anyway no need to disrupt those people's super charging sessions by filming them but yeah pretty cool and check out how perfect this building is the car is charging right over there this is a beautiful bakery I hear it's amazing I've actually seen people talk about this online how awesome this supercharger stop is it looks like they have snacks food you could not ask for a better supercharger spot sure it's not open right now but what could you expect but Sunday night in Texas nothing's gonna be open so that's totally fine there's also a subway right there that is open but I think we'll just keep on trucking through our trip planner here built in is doing a really good job initially so you can see it's been having a stop at every charger it's been doing exactly what I like each charger is about a hundred miles apart basically ripped 100 miles plug in for a few minutes rip another 100 miles and that is the quickest way not the only way you can do a full charge for you know three times the amount of time that you're there and past chargers but this is the fastest way to roadtrip and Evie so it's gonna have us stop there's a ton of superchargers in dallas-fort worth it's having a stop at this one in Arlington which is right off the highway so that is very good [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] we are in Arlington Texas which is right in between Dallas and Fort Worth 4% another perfectly planned trip this is beautiful there is like a river back here and a giant stadium I imagine that this must get pretty filled up during sporting events there's just parking for miles anyway we are looking pretty good the car is looking good and this is pretty great so we are charging up here getting a pretty good charging session and let's talk about the plan it is 11:30 at night it is pretty far to this charger yeah about 115 miles so we'll need about 60 65 % cruising at these speeds there is not one single hotel on this stretch that has destination charging I'm sure there's a few in Fort Worth but I'd kind of like to get outside the city so here is what I'm thinking I'm still feeling pretty good I say we stretch it and then I may take a nap at this supercharger but we will see I don't know there's just it to me I'm still feeling good we have a lot of ground to cover we may just push it to El Paso and then maybe try to who knows but let's just keep going while I feel good I'm not tired at all I do want to get a snack and there is nothing around here I even checked like up close like swag cycle distance and there wasn't anything so we'll have to stop off at like a rest stop or something and get some food and then I should be pretty good to go for a little while longer [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay I ran inside was looking pretty good with snacks I went a little crazy I got burritos Reese's beef jerky gotta have beef jerky out of spec road trips and of course a Red Bull and I feel like I got something else too oh yeah feel a little icebreakers always keep these in the car you don't want to have a bad breath when you're talking to people so with all that said I'm parked here under a gas station light so you can see me hopefully at least now I got a put back in El Paso Texas we're ready to rock and roll for a bit [Music] this is a great supercharger because it has a dog park this is very important for us who travel with dogs a lot right so while we're charging up at really good speeds 148 kilowatt pretty much maxing this thing out I'm gonna run inside and get a water because I don't know what we're gonna find at the next charter I just grabbed a giant smart water that is antioxidant not sure if it's really any different than normal smart water and these nice people over here when I was walking inside said what is that machine over there like well an electric car charger an electric what that explain of course that you know the car runs with batteries and they're like oh this is the coolest thing this is the future like yeah he's like oh I come here all the time I never knew what those were like you think you just look up Tesla I didn't say that of course he was very nice and but some people really have no idea about electric cars especially in the middle part of the US and that's where we are so looks like we are going to be stretching it not stretching it at all I should say going to Sweetwater Texas will arrive there now at 4% we're currently at 44% state of charge so let's just charge up a little bit more another five minutes and we'll be on the road [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] right well we made here 2% basically all the extra range that we had I used up in speed which is good that is fast let's get plugged up ooh super charger cables are quite stiff because it is cold outside let's trick the tendon it feels a little bit chilly all right while that's charging as usual let's check our plan I don't want to go to Toronto when I go to El Paso so I think it's doing a pretty good job of having us hop to the next one here 107 miles to this charger let's take a look just to make sure 113 so let's get quite a long charge here maybe because the way it is cold and we have a pretty big head wind will get like 60% and I think I'm gonna set a 20 minute timer and just take a quick nap and if I oversleep no big deal and there's no one here I won't get charged idle fees well I just woke up from a little nap which was perfectly timed we are ready to go we'll make it to Midland 16% that was great timing actually really good timing seeing in the distance but there are windmills in both directions for miles it's even warm glove the red lights blinking in the distance generating power draining you'll we are approaching the supercharger and this internal traffic calculation is off for shirts right off the highway there's not going to be that much traffic sometimes it says it's going to take ten minutes all the way until you can see your address so this is definitely a software glitch but a funny one nonetheless yeah and there's a lot of oil rigs out here and just a little bit of infrastructure it's a pretty pretty cool place lots of lots of these little oil digger things we are in Midland Texas at 6% let's get juice in here get another pretty cold supercharger handle let's take a look at our next stop who wants us to do 50 minutes here well what is wrong with this charger Pecos Texas it wants us to skip that and to go all the way here it really doesn't make much sense since this is right off the highway you're like literally it's right on the highway right off the highway that's gonna be our next stop 20 minutes that's the way to do it you can see here in Texas there are just a ton a ton a ton of pickup trucks that's pretty much the only thing people drive but you know what tons of space fuels cheap I totally get it and they're all pretty much work trucks especially Ron here with all the oil industry let's take a look looks like we're ready to go we have 90 miles to go with a projected 112 we will absolutely make that so let's as usual get on the road very short stops this trip very short stops but can't complain we've had good charging speed and another supercharger this one in Pecos Texas were at 5% I just love how evenly spaced all these Chargers are the cables are pretty this thing is frozen solid it's pretty funny yeah let's see what the temperature is 35 yep I don't that'll do it that'll make them a little bit hard to move I'm gonna run inside use the restroom and maybe get a little bit of breakfast snack but before I do that let's plan our next stop it's pretty easy we're just hopping from charger too hot to charger except that is going the wrong way we are going to El Paso there's no Chargers in between this one and that one so we'll be there next it is let's see how many miles so then horn 90 miles pretty easy we'll charge up to 50% and head on out so we're inside a truck stop and look they have like a movie area for a TV restroom showers and then just your general store over here but this is quite typical for truck stops here and we're heading back to the car got a little bit of food he's the restroom everything is good I think the car is just about done we're a little over 50% so I can't remember exactly what we said we would charge two but I'm pretty sure we'll be good to go let's just make sure and this is the super charger here great location I like these truck stop things because they have everything you can need inside and it's just a nice quiet place back here in the parking lot looks like we can make it at 14% let's unplug and go I think that's going to be the theme for this trip [Music] [Music] but we are plugged in at 3% it looks like for a and B are both down so I guess that's not icing there is another X here but they are not plugged in I think they're leaving and yeah this is good so that was perfect I think we should make it to El Paso easily from here and of course but let's see at what time 119 miles so we'll charge up to maybe 70 60 70 percent and and then we'll go from there well we stayed here a little bit longer than we needed to who we are not charging very quickly at this state of charge so let's get out of here 21% projected arrival we are totally fine just add some phone calls to finish up let's unplug and as you know the drill get on the road you guys can see a little overview of our trip this is the us-mexico border here and we're gonna be getting pretty close to it down through here I wonder if we'll be able to see it and then in El Paso I mean this city is split by the border so I'm sure we'll be able to see some cool border stuff going through there so you can see Mexico here those mountains right there and that is Mexico the Rio Grande runs right in between us and them and that is the border separation you can see the river here and in the mountains on the Mexican side so pretty cool for sure seen a lot of pretty awesome ordered patrol vehicles some like lifted f-150 the Chevy Tahoe that had aggressive tires I am sure those trucks get through their paces it was pretty cool to see and pretty cool to be right next to Mexico that is wild [Music] okay well I was just hanging out with my friend Sean who's another cannon baller he is the third fastest solo Cannonball Run in history anyway he's super into kind of a great guy like him a lot I'm charged up to 89 percent let's put in where we're gonna go which is gonna be Phoenix for the night Phoenix AZ and it's gonna have us go to Deming New Mexico will arrive at 50% is there one we can stretch it to not really so we're off and we have plenty of battery to burn alright sorry for that I was hanging out with Sean but let's go through the plan and what we're up to so we are charged up to 88% which is really high way higher than we needed to but again I was just hanging out I don't think we'll be able to make it to Tucson at 250 miles definitely not so we have to charge up here in Deming says we'll arrive at 48% and that sounds pretty good to me we can rip it there so we can up the speeds here and burn some juice and I'm gonna charge up enough to stretch it to Tucson which is a pretty big stretch through a mountain range it looks like so yeah it's a pretty good charging plan [Music] [Music] [Music] let's get her plugged in what's interesting is all the stalls are here and the cabinets are over there which is kind of funny so we are already at 42 percent so I'm expecting peak speeds for like a half a second this is only because we overcharged at the previous charger in El Paso when I was hanging out with my friend so let's see what we get and let's see what it ramps up to 104 it could do a lot more than that but that's okay let's take a look I think this is going to be a pretty long stretch to to sauna there any chargers in between there are what is this one here that's a hundred and twenty-one miles and it wants us to go 178 you know this car is not that efficient we're gonna go to this one here and save us some time so judge will Cox Arizona we need let's say 20% ish to go I'm gonna run in grab some snacks restroom and we'll be back on the road no time I wonder if this supercharger has enough power to run the whole thing look at that substation it is right across the street probably plugged into that supercharger at least some transformer component of it is and then run into our car although we're not pulling much looks like we should be ready to go 134 miles at 70% let's take a look 176 miles yeah I'd say that's pretty good we weren't going too fast maybe I'll give it just to 70% and then we'll unplug [Music] all right we are plugged in in Wilcox Arizona this looks like a great playground to zoom around it on the way back I kind of want to take this on the salt flats I've driven it a couple times I've been there twice before it's really cool not great for the car but tons of fun gets it all salty you have to wash it off immediately after let's take a look at our charging we've plugged in at 9% like I said I can hear the little battery pumps running we'll let this take a second we're getting great speeds next stop it thinks we can just go straight to Phoenix for a 35 minute charge but look at how many superchargers there are in between here and there so why would we do that to saw 150 kilowatt that one's a 72 so we may go here we may go here I'm gonna have to book a hotel to make sure I can get Wow this is always busy I'm gonna try to avoid super charging in Phoenix oh it's just always maxed out every time I've gone through so well I booked a hotel I'm just gonna let it charge and then we'll figure it out after so this looks perfect we are going to leave here do one charge for just a short period of time probably not even 15 minutes and then we'll plug in here the good news is if for whatever reason that charger is blocked there's a super charger two of them literally right down the road so I have a backup option and gruber is just right over by this airport somewhere in this area so I just have to drive that way in the morning but that won't be a problem so let's uh make see if we can make it to Casa Grande that sounds like a cool charger looks like a busy charger it's half-full and can we make it there it's a hundred and forty six miles at 66% if we continue driving slowly we can make it so let's go we're in a rush [Music] all right we have plugged in contactors just click we are juicing up let's see how many miles it is to the resort place 66 miles and I'm just gonna leave it on the charger the whole time so what I want to do when I get to the hotel is get the car down to about five or ten percent probably not below five percent and then just leave it there for like two hours and that will tell the BMS okay hey this is this is where the batteries at and then I can bring it up to 90% and let it sit there you know pretty much straight through and that helps calibrate the battery because all this charging unplugging charging unplugging the car never is really stopping the BMS can get confused more of a problem on Model S and X but I have seen it on Three's and this is a pretty sick three that's rolling in right now that thing is freakin awesome it's matte gray from Washington awesome looks really good look pretty tired I definitely am but the good news is we made it safely efficiently quickly and there were no issues along the way met some great people at superchargers so let's wrap this up part two you're gonna see it the next video I think is gonna be a lot more fun because we're gonna be hanging out at Gruber we're going to Vegas we're going to San Jose with a whole bunch of really cool people that I'm excited to introduce to all of our viewers and then after that segment we'll rip at home but thanks for following along I'm sure this turned out to be a long segment and appreciate everything you guys are doing four out of spec so we'll see you in part 3 you [Music] you
