you alone are the lord you alone are the most high jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory of god the father amen let us pray grant us oh lord we pray that the cause of our world may be directed by your peaceful rule and that your church may rejoice and troubled in her devotion through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever [Music] a reading from the book of ecclesiastes in a shaken sieve the rubbish is left behind so too the defects of a man appear in his talk the kiln tests the work of the potter the test of a man is in his conversation the orchard where the tree grows is judged on the quality of its fruit similarly a man's words betray what he feels do not praise a man before he has spoken since this is the test of men the word of the lord [Music] it is good to give thanks to the lord to make music to your name almost high to proclaim your love in the morning and your truth in the watches of the night lord it is to give thanks to you the just will flourish like the palm tree [Music] planted in the house of the lord they will flourish in the courts of our god lord it is good to give thanks to you [Music] still bearing fruit when they are old still full of sap still green to proclaim that the lord is just [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] a reading from the first letter of saint paul to the corinthians when this perishable nature has put on imperishability and when this mortal nature has put on immortality then the words of scripture will come true death is swallowed up in victory death where is your victory death where is your sting now the sting of death is sin and sin gets its power from the law so let us thank god for giving us the victory through our lord jesus christ never give in then my dear brothers never admit defeat keep on working at the lord's work always knowing that in the lord you cannot be laboring in vain the word of the lord shine on the world like bright stars you are offering it the word of life hallelujah hallelujah the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory jesus told a parable to his disciples can one blind man guide another surely both will fall into a pit the disciple is not superior to his teacher the fully trained disciple will always be like his teacher why do you observe the splendor in your brother's eye and never notice the plank in your own how can you say to your brother brother let me take out the splinter that is in your eye when you cannot see the plank in your own hypocrite take the plank out of your own eye first and then you will see clearly enough to take out the splinter that is in your brother's eye there is no sound tree that produces rotten fruit not again a rotten tree that produces sun fruit for every tree that can be told by its own fruit people do not pick figs from thorns nor gather grapes from brambles a good man draws what is good from the store of goodness in his heart a bad man draws what is bad from the store of badness for a man's words flow out of what fills his heart the gospel of the lord jesus christ now today's gospel is still a continuation of the semen on the mount that we heard two sundays ago beginning with the beatitudes jesus's words are sharp and straightforward can a blind man lead another how can you pretend to take out the splinter in your brother's eye when you have a log in yours in 1975 popper the sixth wrote an important document evangelization in the modern world in it he says that the modern world willingly listens to witnesses rather than teachers and if they listen to a teacher it is because he or she is already a witness now this brings me to a story that is often attributed to mahatma gandhi you may have heard a different version of it once a woman brought her recalcitrant son to gandhi because he was eating too much sugar and she reckoned that maybe with a little rebuke gandhi can help her son change his behavior so she said to gandhi please sir can you tell my son to stop eating too much sugar and gandhi paused for a while and requested that they come back in four weeks time and so this woman was kind of disappointed and so they traveled back and after four weeks they traveled a long journey back to gandhi to see him and gandhi said to his to her son please stop eating too much sugar it is not good for your health now this woman was worried and asked gandhi why do you make me wait four weeks only to say this one sentence to my son and gandhi said well it has taken me that long to stop eating sugar myself now it was said that the sun had so much respect for gandhi that he changed his behavior and started living a healthy life and so the truth is we all have logs in our eyes and we need to change at a deeper level as saint francis of assisi once said there is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is also our preaching they will know that we are christians by our love not by what we say not by how loud we are or how we judge others but by our love and so let's seek to build a kinder society and become the change that we seek our love and our actions is how we preach christ to the world we now profess our faith the apostles creed i believe in god the father almighty creator of heaven and earth and in jesus christ his only son our lord who was conceived by the holy spirit born of the virgin mary suffered an abundance pilate was crucified died and was buried he descended into hell on the third day he rose again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of god the father almighty from there he will come to judge the living and the dead i believe in the holy spirit the holy catholic church the communion of sins the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting amen the words we speak display the yearnings of our hearts let us turn to the lord in prayer and place our needs before him that the church always speaks with state and acts with compassion especially through this year's lenten project compassion mission to you we pray lord hear our prayer that those who suffer for the sake of integrity and goodness will be rewarded for their faithfulness and courage to you we pray lord hear our prayer that those who preach the gospel will never grow weary or become defeated to you we pray lord hear our prayer that we will place the needs of our brothers and sisters before our own and avoid hypocrisy in our lives to you we pray lord hear our prayer god our father hear our prayer may your our thoughts and deeds bring us closer to your truth we ask this through christ our lord amen [Music] open my eyes lord help me to see your face open my eyes lord help me to [Music] help me to hear your voice open my ears help me to [Music] my brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father may the lord accept the sacrifice of your heart for the praise and glory of his name for our good and good of all his holy church oh god who provide gifts to be offered to your name and count our oblations as signs of our desire to serve you with devotion we ask of your mercy that what you grant us the source of merit may also help us to attain merits reward through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god for in you we live and move and have our being and while in this body we not only experience the daily effects of your care but even now possess the pledge of life eternal for having received the first fruits of the spirit through whom you raised up jesus from the dead we hope for an everlasting share in the paschal mystery and so with all the angels we praise you as a joyful celebration we acclaim [Music] [Music] blessed is he who comes in [Music] you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy there for these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be giving up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of a new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] [Music] you have set us free therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope brian our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coerced to eternal life i may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him o god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever [Music] [Music] at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy kingdom come that will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our deliberate and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always and with your spirit let us suffer each other the
