good afternoon dear brothers and sisters the temptation of jesus in the desert is a great reminder that temptations in our lives can be overcome if we go to jesus and choose to remain with him today is the first sunday of lent jesus cross portrays very well the sacrifices and fortitude many of us is experiencing as one family let us pray for each other's temptations and sufferings that we may remain faithful as we strive to become channels of god's grace in jesus in today's mass our mass presider is reverent father joseph high svd please stand as we begin the holy mass [Music] so [Music] for our loved ones our country and we ask the holy spirit for the end of the pandemic and together in ukraine so that the people may have peace and pray for our internet internal intention personal intention brothers and sisters let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and in what i have failed to do through my fall through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen lord have mercy lord have mercy christ have mercy christ have mercy lord have mercy lord have mercy let us pray run almighty god through the yearly observances of holy land that we may grow in understanding of the riches hidden in christ and by worthy conduct pursue their effects through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and rests with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever amen answer him i will be with him in distress i will deliver him and glorify him be with me lord when i am in trouble the apostle paul exhorts us to place our faith and confidence in the lord jesus who suffered and died and was raised from the dead for our salvation a reading from the letter of saint paul to the romans brothers and sisters what the scriptures say the word is near you in your mouth and in your heart that is the word of faith that we preach for if you confess with your mouth that jesus is lord and believe in your heart that god raised him from the dead you will be saved for one believes with the heart and soul is justified and one confesses with a mouth and soul is saved for the scripture says no one who believes in him will be put to shame for there is no distinction between jew and greek the same lord is lord of all enriching all who call upon him for everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved the word of the lord thanks be to god please stand to honor the holy gospel one does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of god the lord be with you and with your spirit reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you o lord filled with the holy spirit jesus returned from the jordan and was led by the spirit into the desert for 40 days to be tempted by the devil he ate nothing during those days and when they were over he was hungry the devil said to him if you are the son of god command this stone to be calm bread jesus answered him it is written one does not live on bread alone then he took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant the devil said to him i shall give to you on this power and glory for it has been handed over to me and i may give it to whomever i wish all this will be yours if you worship me jesus said to him in replied is written you shall worship the lord your lord and him alone shall you reserve then he led him to jerusalem make him stand on the path of the temple and say to him if you are the son of god threw yourself down from here for his written he will command his angels concerning you to route you and with their hands they will support you lest you dust your foot against a stone jesus said to him eden replied it also says you shall not put the lord your word to the test when the devil had finished every temptation he departed from him for a time my dear brothers and sisters the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ in everyday life choosing and deciding to step forward is always important and necessary therefore everyone wishes to make the right choice right choice and decision to do that is not easy indeed so let us let the holy spirit guide us enlighten us like jesus in the first sentence of today's gospel he was filled with the holy spirit but in greek terms great words he led the holy spirit to write him ibis obey him it is an active act is not passive act he led holy spirit he allows holy spirit to ride him hence he overcame all the temptations dear brothers and sisters normally the gospel of the first sunday of lent is always the story of jesus being tempted by the devil why why did the church shows the story of temptation for us to read and to meditate on today to invite ourselves to call ourselves to think about this as we know learn a season of love a time when we practice virtuous sacrifice in order to form a new person in each of us new thoughts new spirit new will a new commitment this matter is to fight against unrighteous passions sinful occasions and temptations so the church choose this story to read today in order to help us realize what temptations do we have to face and what should we do to overcome the temptations hello in the gospel reading we see jesus being tempted by satan about three basic humanness in of all times that is bread food and money and fame first bread is essential need to have good foods to eat to have beautiful clothes to dress to have a lot possession better that is good but here we need to know when and in one context was jesus tempted at the time when he was hungry when he was hungry the gospel reported he ate nothing during those days and then they were when they were over he was hungry in this context when we are hungry we want to eat this is a basic and natural need of each of us being tao the devil said to jesus when he was hungry command this stone to become bread and eat deeply embedded in that proportion is the notion that as long as when we have money we have possessions we can solve everything that is the temptation of today if we have money we have everything so is completely true total agree that being poor is difficult to be happy there must be basic needs in human life so that so we need bread we need money and possessions for our life if we want to do something halimbawa we want to build a church or we want to do something nothing we need para we are really realistic with the money difficult to serve god well bishop peter the devil tells the truth but only a half of the truth my dear brothers and sisters money and material material things are important and necessary but they don't own they don't show everything experience shows that many families are very rich but their children involve gambling broken family [Music] divorce hiwali so where is happiness several years ago in my country one family owes the chongyan coffee company very big very very big the problem happened between the rich husband and wife now they divorce denouncing each other in tv the same only half truth i shall give to you on this power and their glory all this will be yours if you worship me implicit there is a point of view having power can stop it's owned yes it's correct malapedna our election they need power to serve to do everything to do something to build a new society there must be power yes but only a half right a half kato to hana powers essential for leaders think that science can solve everything but not sometimes it surprise people from each other make us far from each other human solidarity becomes more and more blood they must tell the truth but only half of it it seduces and appears with a very sweet beautiful and attractive appearance and today the temptation is sweeter stranger and more dangerous that is why we are easily tempted but hidden in buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen heavenly father renew us in your covenant of mercy that leads us to everlasting life with humble hearts we pray lord graciously hear us may the church leaders find strength in the christ in the desert whenever they are tempted to live a life against the gospel we pray [Music] that those who seek public office be guided by genuine fear of god and love of neighbors for the welfare of the common good we pray that there be honest orderly and peaceful elections free from corruption intimidation violence terrorism deception bribery and fraud we pray that the integrity of the electoral process be upheld human dignity be respected and the poor and the weak be prioritized we pray through the act of consecration of russia to the immaculate heart of mary we pray for peace in ukraine and unity among nations we pray may those who called upon your name in faith o father during their earthly journey hear the voice of christ welcoming them into the joy of heaven we pray let us pray for the urgent concerns of our community and our personal intentions further through the spirit you led tears into the desert to prepare him for his mission of mercy lead us by the same spirit
