chest his apartment ransacked surveillance cameras unplugged then the cops uncover a chilling hostage video did he surprise two burglars in the middle of a crime video games televisions jewelry had been placed in bags or was this a crime of passion I was like wait a minute did he do it a cell phone hidden under a mattress will provide a stunning clue plus a dramatic Chase and shootout all caught on police body Canam there was a long pause on the radio and then the next thing we heard was an officer screaming we got Officer Down the race to save officer Matt Pierce's life blue blue right now crime watch Daily what do you mean you don't know she's 13 you're running away now welcome to crime watch Daily everyone I'm Chris Hansen we start today with two tapes of Terror one on video and one just audio both of them equally gripping and both of them at the center of a murder investigation involving a young Florida man we want to warn you some of the details and images you're about to see are quite graphic 911 please it's the voice of a man hello please please help with only seconds to live when cops arrive at the house it's rans the scene has all the markings of a robbery Gone Wrong video games televisions jewelry clothing uh had been placed in bags but a bloody path also leads to Grizzly murder scene hello Landy Martinez was raised in Miami after moving from Cuba with his family and at 18 years old came out as a gay man I think didn't quite knew what he was in the beginning when we first met and then kind of just okay I'm gay here I am let's go after high school Landy moved to St Petersburg finding work at an assisted living facility where he met Gail rig they would soon become best friends Landy was a great guy you know did his job really well helped out the residence and he was an awesome person but there had to be more to life than work Landy wanted to meet someone special it didn't take long to find someone looking for the same Landy met Jose online and then drove to Miami to go pick him up enter Jose adame a Charming Latin lover who swept Landy off his feet they lived together where they rented a bedroom from uh a couple and in that residence there was another couple that lived there the relationship seemed okay you know normal me and Jose hung out when we first met cuz Landy had a good to work but Gil says things soon took a dark ter starting with a disturbing offer by Jose yes my 11 year- old son if he wanted to go back to the apartment and smoke weed and watch pornos Landy was there when the incident happened and he was highly pissed it was enough to make the steamy romance fizzle out soon Landy said goodbye to Jose and moved on to find love with 26-year-old Jonathan galacia her relationship between Jonathan and Landy seemed I guess more carrying loving you saw more on Facebook of like the cutesy little things like the Parts in the sand and you know stuff like that but cops say land's old housemate still had an uneasy feeling about Jose they were fearful of him they put up security cameras so they had access on their smartphones to the security cameras with an extra layer of protection everything seemed calm but out of camera shot was there an ominous cloud of trouble Brewing Jose was jealous and capable of creating problems for Landy Jose devised this plan to stalk or harass Landy stung by Rejection it seemed Jose wanted Landy to pay for his broken heart quite literally soon Jose began racking up tickets by speeding past a camera with a car Landy and Jose registered in both their names the tickets went to Landy because land's name was on first demanding payment and with the threat of suspending the driver's license but not to be outdone Landy concocted a plan of his own he contacted Jose and said hey I'd like to get back together with you let's go out and see if we can't reconcile a relationship so in the meantime Landy went down to the dhsmv and perfectly legal removed Jose from the title the two agreed to meet at a fast food joint Jose thinking they're getting back together but Landy with something else in mind M when he got there Landy called Sheriff's Office requested a deputy to come up I want him and his stuff out of the vehicle the former lover had no choice but to hand over the truck Landy then drove off leaving Jose fuming alone in the parking lot I suspect that Jose was very angry for several reasons he thinks he's going to get back with the man that he loves he loses his vehicle on top of that and on top of that he's stranded in a parking lot in St Pete Florida where he has no family or residence but at least Landy and his new Lov Jonathan could find peace or maybe not Jonathan said look I'm I'm worried that you're going to go back to Jose all the drama with Jose soon bothered Jonathan leaving him insecure about their future Landy says it's over between me and Jose he says I can prove it to do that Landy set up a secret three-way phone call between his old lover and his new one Jonathan silently listens he's listening to uh ly tell Jose that their relationship is over with again that he has moved on he has a new boyfriend at the end of that phone call is when Landy says oh by the way he's in listening to this whole phone call if Jose is embarrassed by being tricked he plays it cool Jose told Jonathan that he was him and Landy were through there was nothing to worry about there was nothing to be jealous of that uh he had moved on he found a new boyfriend that bought him a red Lexus and he had sent a picture of a red Lexus with him posing on it like a model Jonathan accepts all this and he says when they hang up the phone it's amicable but the next morning Jonathan gets a bizarre text a message completely opposite from what was said in the phone call the text is from Landy saying he changed his mind he wants to get back together with Jose the text said listen I don't know that I want to be with you anymore I thought about this I really love Jose I miss Jose I'm going to go back to Jose and now a three-way Lover's Tiff is about to explode Landy knew what was going to happen to him they want to kill me Hur up please next A desperate call to [Music] 911 who's holding Landy hostage everyone's a suspect is it the ex or the new boyfriend I was like wait a minute did he do it or was this a robbery turned violent things had been taken out of the normal places and someone was preparing to take those items 911 they want to kill me hurry up please hry hry one minute Landy Martinez is pleading for his life the next silence at first it appears he may have surprised a set of robbers ransacking his home but but what police would find in the bathroom would certainly change that theory 4 days before Christmas in inside this house the tree is trimmed and the stockings are hung but in the bedroom police find a blood bath he had blood on his face his mouth on his arms all over him literally all over Landy Martinez's lifeless body sped out on the floor in his home just moments before Bo Landy makes a desperate call to 911 911 up pleas help the 911 operator tries to get an address but can't sir where are you what's the what is the address the call ends with a deafening Silence of death hello in a race against the clock cops frantically search for land's location they start checking with neighbors to see if anyone has seen or heard anything because he used a cell phone pinging the tower can only reveal a general area finding the exact spot is like finding a needle in a 100 Haystacks so we just basically want to throw out a big net and cover all that we can incredibly around the same time cops were feverishly searching for land's location his landlord who is out of town does a welfare check in the house via her smartphone but oddly she finds the cameras turned off when she calls Landy he doesn't pick up the system had been up the night before and now it wasn't working in the morning they knew something was wrong they they were they were adamant about it the landlord calls the sheriff giving her home address and sure enough it corresponds to the location they were searching so once her call comes in they go to that address and they knock at the door they walk around on the residence and they find a broken window signs of force entry into the back door at first the house looks like it was targeted by burglars broken glass the screen removed the door handle smashed there was a huge uh 70in uh flat screen TV it had been taken off of the wall they actually set the television down on a pool table so the items that would have been missing you know they didn't get to complete the first thing I thought of was somebody tried to Rob them or just somebody breaking in just a few hours in to that Discovery cops hear more that raises suspicion Two magazine salesmen were spotted in the neighborhood going door too we had uh neighborhood canvas detectives that were able to identify salesmen uh solicitors uh in the area and another possible lead points to two other suspicious men seen in the area that very morning there were two in a Hispanic Mills that were seen walking at a fast pace away from the scene headed back in a direction towards where a car was parked at at the end of the road then as cops move through the home something alarming captures their attention the deputies also noticed blood in a couple of places as they were searching they followed the red path of blood straight to the bathroom there was blood on the toilet So that obviously something had occurred in the bathroom no doubt about that everything within that bathroom gives the appearance of someone that he had been tortured then as they round the corner to the bedroom they make a gruesome Discovery he had been shot in the head and in the chest he had blood literally all over cops Wonder would a house burglar be out for so much blood everyone's a suspect did Landy have enemies at work did he you know a relationship gone bad uh could this have been over money could this have been over drugs when the forensics team takes over what they find will turn the investigation upside down there was a cell phone found an iPhone found uh between a mattress in land's room inside the phone a harrowing video appears as if speaking from Beyond the Grave the tragic final moments of his life captured on a disturbing torture tape who was behind the cell phone lens who hit record on those 40 seconds who wanted Landy dead he's crying and he's pleading for his life in Spanish you don't need to know vanished to hear the terror in his voice investigators now realize this was a very personal crime he's in the shower the water's running he's standing up he's in a white T-shirt he's in the purple underwear he's duct taped on the Hands Across and he's crying in the bathroom cops find instruments of torture that they were threatening him with the Drano either to drink it or put it in his eyes they definitely had the knife and um they were just torturing him I believe they took the video for a trophy um for later for R viewing uh pleasure but who exactly are they what cops see on the video reveals a huge clue you can tell his hands are secure they're in front of him the video shot at a distance so it's not a selfie and then more staggering evidence pouring from that cell phone remember the strange text that Landy sented Jonathan professing his love for Jose appeared as though Landy was trying to break up with him could the breakup taxs be a motive for murder it soon becomes Crystal Clear Landy was no victim of an unknown Intruder cops turned their attention to Land's boyfriend Jonathan Galia oh I was like wait a minute did he do it did you know Jonathan do it he was the new love interest he's a suspect immediately detectives paid Jonathan a visit at his home about an hours drive from the crime scene their first order of business breaking the devastating news that Landy was killed you can soften that all you want but dead is dead he was very very upset emotionally uh his new love interest was murdered after aggressively questioning Jonathan cops say he made a request that was very suspicious he said something to the fact you know do I need an attorney which now used to light up a little bell in in the in the head of the detectives um and you know why do you think you need an attorney just an odd thing to hear him say um so you know now you're going to slow down even more and be even more thorough uh in your uh investigation of his Alibi after combing through surveillance video and cell phone records Jonathan was cleared Jonathan was ruled out through um uh work records uh cooworker interviews there was surveillance at the company he worked for so he saw where he was and the biggest Alibi that ruled Jonathan out was the text messages captured on land's phone around the time he was tortured cops confirmed that Jonathan could not have been at the crime scene because his cell phone records placed him at his home more than an hour away he was sending texts he was calling and texting with Landy cell phone Landy wasn't texting back some one of the two perpetrators were but we were able to see where those two phones were you know the ones at the crime scene and the other ones Brooksville 60 62 miles apart up next if he didn't kill Landy who did Jonathan's cleared quickly Jose's not able to be cleared uh so quickly we're back with more on the search for the killer of Landy Martinez when the Florida man fically calls 911 he can be heard screaming they want to kill me and there's something else on that tape something that would help police close this case the body of Landy Martinez is found battered and bloody on the floor of his Suburban home and the list of possible suspects who murdered him is getting shorter cops quickly clear his boyfriend Jonathan Galia you're able to determine his location at the time so he could not have been the perpetrator he never acted like a perpetrator more like a grieving loved one two door-to-door salesmen are also clear they found the company out in California and they found the salesman they were found interviewed and eliminated quickly but still on Cops radar the unidentified Hispanic men seen leaving the scene who are they we knew there was a second person we didn't know who the second person was they soon learn who he is it's none other than land's ex-boyfriend Jose adame and the other man Jose's nephew they fit the age and the hair uh the color of the hair and the length of the hair one week later authorities track Jose down in North Carolina we Enlisted the assistance of the US Marshall service to locate Jose adame for us and he was taken into custody for an arrest warrant on an unrelated case investigators bring him to the station and Grill him about land's death that interrogation captured on an audio recording Mr adami can you just state your name for me Jose adami detectives first questioned him about how he learned Landy was dead adame claims he heard the news from a friend tell me again what she said she said that if I knew what happened I'm like no what she said that then was dead and I told her no it wasn't true Stu play with me he then tells cops he was in North Carolina when Landy was murdered but as adame is about to find out cops are one step ahead of his lies they now know the breakup text sent to landy's current lover Jonathan was really sent by Jose himself and they say cell phone records Place Jose in Florida near the scene of the crime Jose mhm have you been truthful with us today yes um the problem is it doesn't seem like you're being truthful on some things you were in Florida on Tuesday night and you're in Florida on Wednesday you're going to need to explain that to us how does that happen then caught between his lies and his fears now is the time to tell the truth let's get this behind you Jose literally becomes ill it's okay get sick the only way this is going to stop this feeling of getting sick and feeling like this is when you get off your shoulders that's the only way that's going to stop and you're the only one that can stop it he spoke to us for a couple hours during that time he was actually vomiting into a garbage can at the jail he denied participating in this offense denied it completely cops continue to hammer adame with questions but he doesn't budge this time Jose let's get this behind us right now do you love Landy yes or no yes did this happen was this intentional yes or no Jose did you want Landy to get killed yes or no no no is that what you said okay it happened therefore this is accidental or it's out of your control if your love meant anything with him what happened to him that explanation never came he denied everything he said it didn't happen he actually denied that Landy was murdered so the interview didn't go as as well as we had hoped for adami stayed locked up on unrelated burglary charges as cops continued to build a clear picture of the killing from start to finish as we start to check out um his statements it turns out to be pure fabrication it's pure lie um blatant lies uh on top of blatant lie it just kept getting worse and worse what horrific events occurred from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning the puzzle pieces quickly fall into place they were coming there to talk to Landy CS adame Enlisted the help of his 16-year-old nephew enticing him with a promise of TVs video games and computers they went to the residence Landy here's the glass break he goes back there he's then confronted by one of the perpetrators he's overpowered and he's taken to the bathroom where he is duct taped and tortured the brutality that took place in the bathroom is captured on an iPhone but but the unbelievable thing is the attackers filmed landy's torture on the wrong phone Landy and Jose had matching iPhones they were both Ivory pearl white phones you couldn't tell them apart by looking at them Jose got confused which phone was his and which one was land's uh and then they left it behind in the scene on that recording 40 hearing seconds of sheer Terror they were threatening him with the Drano either to drink it or put it in his eyes they definitely had had the knife we know they had a gun and um they were just torturing them and when the tape was translated into English more shocking Clues emerg he makes a statement in Spanish that when it was translated Loosely um that Jose was never the problem and that Jose was wonderful and he was very sorry for all of the problems that he's ever caused in his life comp say Landy was tortured for 2 hours then the attackers put him in the bedroom while they ransacked the house during those moments alone Landy managed to call 911 he want kill me hurry up please he got a hold of that phone somehow when they kic when they broke the door in he slid it underneath the mattress and then he ran to the other room and that's when he was [Music] shot after gunning down Landy and realizing that he had called 911 adame and his nephew panicked and took off a week later the getaway car was seized in Hickory North Carolina at the trailer park where Adam's mother lived we obtained a search warrant for that car we found blood the steering wheel had land's blood on it and we saw more duct tape in the car with reams of incriminating evidence the case went to trial land's best friend Gail rig recalls her reaction to seeing land's killer in court for the first time Jose was overweight didn't seem like he had any remorse just kind of like a blank look on Jose's face you know just like staring off into space over the course of the two-day trial the jwy listened to the chilling last seconds of L's life stunned to see the gut-wrenching video of land's torture in our world today people love to see video um so to show the video of him in the bathroom pleading for his life crying you know fearful and there's water running on him it almost puts the juror there to Gail and to everyone else in that courtroom it was clear that land's murder was a senseless Crime of Passion I've always thought that if I can't have you nobody can so let's just kind of take care of the situation Jose's motivation was to make Landy pay for all of the trouble that he had caused Jose and Jose's mind but loading up all the property is much more indicative that this was also a you know motivated by greed after the two-day trial wrapped up the jury found adame guilty of first-degree murder and he was sentenced to life in prison without parole rot in hell not going to lie as for adame 16-year-old nephew Jose claimed in court he helped kill Landy but no charges were ever brought against him based on the circumstances that we know we were pretty certain that he was involved but we just did not have enough physical evidence nor an admission from Jose uh to be able to prove it with Jose at Dame Behind Bars landy's friends can at least find some comfort in knowing that the person who took their beloved friend's life will pay for his crimes it brought closure to me um to Landy I hope it does to his family life without parole that's good we'll know that hey justice has been served adame still maintains it's his teenage nephew who pulled the trigger if that's true unless new evidence emerges or the teen confesses that nephew will remain a free man and Jose will stay locked up for the rest of his life coming up we're in Pursuit a dangerous Father and Son Duo lead police on a high-speed Pursuit but when shots are fired the chase turns into a risky Rescue Mission I'm down with the wounded officer's body cam rolling I'm Blue next we're back now with some of the most dramatic video you'll ever see a police body cam captures an officer chasing an armed and dangerous suspect into thick brush the heart pounding minutes that followed would change several lives forever a gunman takes cops on a highspeed chase I'm behind that robbery suspect it starts at 95 mph on a busy freeway he's B you and I need another unit with me turns into a foot pursuit in the brush and ends with a wild west shootout we got officer down but only one will live and one will die it was a sunny afternoon in Fort Worth Texas but things are about to turn dark and deadly for the police yeah unit that can assist US Marshals fallowing the a robbery suspect silver Ford ESC Escape officer Matt purus was on routine Patrol when he hears the radio call supposed to be armed in dangerous the suspect is as bad as they come Ed mckyer Senior has a long wrap sheet and is wanted for stabbing his ex-wife in the eye with a pencil and Junior in the car riding shotgun 243 permission for a third of the pursuit mat's nearby so he radio's headquarters asking to join the chase he's now the number three car in hot Pur of the MERS lot of traffic at horn lot of traffic at horn I can see it I pick up my radio and I hear the pursuit back at the Police Academy training instructor Brandy camper is listening to the radio calls with anxious anticipation I hear Matt's voice and I knew it was Matt because he's my friend and we're listening to the pursuit and everybody's adrenaline's going up and you're just like go Matt get them you know and we're we're listening to the other officers we like come on come on and it just keeps going going the chase gets even more dangerous when the suspect pulls his SUV into a shopping center he now takes cops on a zigzag ride through the parking lot once he's in the back alley he wildly speeds up again they're going to fail to Y they're going to take off on me a gate stops mver so he makes a U-turn and now races so close past the officers he nearly sideswipes them now mver is going at Breakneck speed in the parking lot we're in Pursuit we're going to hen the shopping center is potentially filled with moms and their children C makes a hard turn onto a busy street Southbound Southbound just ahead Matt is waiting I see it he throws out stop Stakes to try and slice the tires but mver must have seen Matt throw them out so he switches into oncoming traffic now he's back on the freeway and then he takes an un scheduled exit driving right down an embankment and onto a side road but Matt is one intersection ahead of him he's now the number one car in the chase it's up to him to stop MAV now they're in the rural part of Fort Worth makyra slows down turns into the dusty driveway of a farm and then bailing bailing coming up the hill when Matt says that these two guys bail out of the car and that both of them have guns the SWAT officer leaves the office that we're in and heads down to the SWAT office to grab the team and head to the scene the two suspects are loose Matt goes after Ed Senior J right there Poli Matt is running all out until he hits a Thicket of mosqu trees he can barely walk through them and then he comes to a barbed wire fence impossible to crawl under and too high to just jump over with all the equipment he's carrying so he climbs a fence post and falls off getting caught up in the thorny branches Matt sees mver and shoots at him as Matt tries to crawl out of the branches staring straight into the evil eyes of Ed mver at the cold steel of a gun the first bullet blows Matt backwards he's hit in the femur shattering it into pieces there was a long pause on the radio and then the next thing we heard was an officer screaming on the radio we got an officer down officer's been shot I didn't even think I just grabbed my medical bag and started running Randy was an Army medic and is trained in emergency medicine she rushes to the scene to help her brother in blue who is bleeding red Matt doesn't realize that there are other officers nearby and more on the way he clicks His Radio for help but all he gets is a busy signal these officers are talking over each other and they're they're all trying to key up on the radio at the same time as man is lying in the brush his body cam shows Mauer's Dark Shadow approaching the monster delivers another bullet straight into Matt's face while we were driving we keep waiting to hear that the scene was Secure that this officer was in the back of the ambulance leaving the scene Matt is losing a lot of blood he's fast heading into shock his body cam picks up voices Matt is breathing heavily so listen carefully are those the voices that the suspect's claiming to finish him off next shot five times I'm down and these are Matt's chilling last words blue blue can Brandy get to him in [Music] time Fort Worth Police Officer Matt Pierce has been hit multiple times in a running gun battle with an armed suspect the entire Chase and shootout caught on his police body cam at the end of a wild highspeed Chase I need to help bullets and blood I'm down Fort Worth Police Officer Matt Pierce is shot five times in the gun battle with Ed mver Senior shot fired shot fired he's badly injured and trapped in the thick branches of mosqu trees Matt is terrified his body cam picks up voices of his fellow officers but he thinks they believe he is the suspect he summons every last ounce of breath to yell blue blue blue I'm Blue the secret code word that reveals he's a cop where you hit that everywhere moments later officer Brandy camper an army trained medic arrives at the scene he's laying on his side he's sweating buckets he's white as a ghost and he's covered in blood and he's looking at me going Brandy I'm bad it's bad I can feel my lungs filling up with blood the ambulance isn't there yet so they load Matt into a police truck we need to get Matt out of there before we end up in another gunfight because he cannot afford to get hit one more time he can't afford one more injury so we load him up into the back of a Tahoe and as soon as we took off the Tahoe sank in the mud and we're stuck and Matt is screaming because his fe's broken so now they carefully carry Matt on an open field so a helicopter can Airlift left him to the hospital after surgery Matt is put into a medically induced coma but will he come out of it the next thing I remember is waking up he's awake and alive and I saw my mom and I said I said Mom how long have I been asleep for like 2 or 3 days and she looks at me and she goes oh no try 2 and a half weeks now this hero cop is sharing with crimat daily his amazing story of the pursuit and the gunfight he walks with a limb the result of his broken femur and his thick beard covers the scars on his face as we continue chasing him he finds a dirt road with an open gate does it look like a scene from The Dukes of Hazard there's dirt flying in front of me I'm driving fast behind it so as we're running through this mosqu Thicket I'm screaming at him J right there J right there forward pleas when we get to a barb wire fence so Ed mver Senor puts his belly on the fence and just flops over over it like almost like almost look like an acrobatic move is I have a whole belt full of equipment on if I try and flip over that barbwire fence like he did I'm going to be hung upside literally hung upside down from my belt from that fence and now I'm going to look like a coyote caught in a Barb water fence remember Matt tried to jump from the fence post but fell down that's when he and the suspect exchanged fire the first set of bullets actually hit hit me in the leg which broke my femurs so I've got two options I can sit here and let him shoot me or I can fight back and I'm not about to sit here and let some dude just shoot me and not shoot back and in my body camera footage you can see his shadow come into my camera and then he reaches his hand in the bush and puts the gun to my head and just pulls the trigger I can see blood just pouring out of my face now I have the choice to make do I fight or do I accept defeat and I'm too arry and too stubborn to accept defeat so we're going to fight now mat faces another Terror even more horrifying than the first I laid there and I thought this is going to suck I just survived an execution and my own guys are going to shoot and kill me I was scared to death I thought that's really what was going to happen he's buried under the mosqu branches and all the other officers can see are his shoes so they start challenging me show me your hands show me your hands show me your hand I will kill you show me your hands or we're going to shoot you so I'm trying to yell blue as loud as I can but they can't hear me so about the third or fourth time I tried to say it I finally was just like all right this is my last Stitch effort I'm going to take the biggest breath I can and I'm going to yell it as loud as I can and if they don't hear me I don't know what to do next so I I took as deep a breath as I could with one functional L and I got it out loud enough blue blue blue blue I'm Blue and that's when they finally realized that it was it was me like his close friend Brandy Matt 2 is trained in emergency medicine he was a paramedic before he became a cop then all of a sudden I hear uh officer Brandy Camper's voice I was like oh thank God she's here I know that she knows exactly what to do to give me the best chance to survive and I don't have to tell her how to do it I don't think I've ever had a scenario or a training situation where a patient had nine holes in them Matt survived but mver senior didn't after Ed mver tries to execute me he turns and tries to kind of scurry up the hill to get a to to get away from my body because he think I'm sure he thinks he killed me officers are at the top of the hill and they engage him in a firefight and end up shooting and killing him one suspect is down we don't know what other with that after 3 hours of searching cops found his son Ed junor he pleaded not guilty to charges of hindering the apprehension of a felon and tampering with evidence felonies that could get him 10 years in prison almost one year after bullets flew in Fort Worth Matt bravely returns to what might have been his killing field I used that post right there to to come over the fence and this is the bush I was light up in right here he hopes to be back on patrol next month coming back to work has been probably one of the hardest parts for me cuz I'm not one to known just to sit around and soak up you know the time off I'm now back light duty for 20 hours a week now next month I'll be back for 40 hours a week and then the plan is for me to return to a uniform mid November Matt is one Tough Cop he wears blue but he bleeds red just like you and me he has a warning for any wouldbe Thugs who darare to take him on in a gun so the next time somebody draws a gun at me if they think I'm going out without a fight
