Making 70's Furniture Modern

the united states is filled with old furniture that is actually really good you can get great deals on furniture built 40 50 years ago that is in great shape and no one wants i'm going to show you how easy it can be to make something old modern let's go [Music] this is the bottom of a china cabinet i transform for myself using cane webbing i will leave that video in the description [Music] dixie bell does not require sanding or priming but a good cleaning is essential i'm going to make my own color by adding a little bit of another color in i really like palmetto green but i wanted it to have a little more intensity and three frog green was the perfect color for this i added very little at a time and took it slow when mixing colors sometimes i just take my time until i get what i want down eventually i got what i wanted [Music] you can see the difference between the original palmetto and the new one here this new is like new palmetto like palmetto with strong intensity if that makes any sense or it just makes sense in my head i don't know mixing your own colors is easy and you can get some amazing one-of-a-kind colors or you can keep it simple and use one of dixie belle's amazing brain colors a lot of bad thoughts giving me pain i'm afraid to show your knees [Music] make sure to use steam coats on the inside of doors [Music] these doors had this unique design i didn't realize how difficult it will be to paint them like i didn't even think about that part going into this project so my husband invented this for me and it worked really [Music] i kind of laughed at him at first when i saw his invention but then it really worked amazing like i have to admit he did a really good job on the other hand duke is so needy but we love him so much so he does whatever he wants i did use two coats for solid coverage the second coat was not moving too good so i added some water to it [Music] to seal the piece i'm going to use clear coat by dixie bell i just love the flat finish this gives it is perfect for the modern look don't overwork it and use long strokes for a much better results also it goes on milky and dry clear that's pretty much it for the painting part that was easy peasy right now for the hardware and this is what is going to make this piece [Music] wow i chose these pools for the doors they're fabulous and i purchased these legs but i couldn't use them more on that later i actually asked my husband to do this part for me because i'm just horrible at measuring [Music] anything [Music] we one problem we ran into was that the screw were not long enough to catch the pole he drill it so that it will sink into the door a little bit show [Music] it was looking so nice the best thing is when your idea come to reality that's like the best part [Music] this is when i realized i couldn't use the legs it will not have looked right because the string was in the way acting like a skirt it would have looked just awkward because it had a skirt on but what can we do we will use them eventually on some other project they won't go to waste next i decided to add just a touch of gold with some gemstone mousse [Music] okay do good do great and they talk bad just a little bit on the hinges was my first stop i might hit the bank and get a bag or two my mama asked me why you got that cash just a little bit on the hinges was my first thought then i was like oh let me do this line here just one line just let me spend try money make it reappear then i took a step back to look at it and before you know it i had gold everywhere i get it cause i got you i got kids like i'm sorry i love gold sleeping like a baby because i know my paper straight [Applause] and it was done i am so in love with this piece and i wish i had space for this piece because i would have kept it for myself it is fabulous [Music] what do you guys think about this piece do you think it still looks outdated what a beauty but no really it's like so pretty like really it's pretty like i'm really really in love with it and the color it's fabulous it's just fabulous all around i really hope you liked this video if you did smash that like button and subscribe if you haven't already and i will see you next time bye everybody bye everybody bye bye bye [Music] everybody talk to me nice
