Extreme Makeover ~ Old Desk/Vanity

what's up everybody katja here and we're back with another furniture makeover i'm trying a new paint and using redesign with prima transfer so this one should be fun transfers are an easy way to add some art to your furniture without having any art skills which is amazing let me show you how i completely transform this desk let's get started i'm starting with this old desk vanity it can be used as either [Music] i immediately removed the hardware and got ready to strip the top we are going to have to strip this top because it's in a really bad shape like really bad like critical but [Music] [Music] after stripping i like to use mineral spirits to clean up and of course sand the wood filler that we used to cover the old holes [Music] now it was time for a good cleaning so we can finish our prep work [Music] now for some color i'm using baltic black as my color by paint couture [Music] i was pleasantly surprised by the coverage and overall quality of this paint it's also self leveling so it's easy to get a smooth finish as well i ended up using two coats of this paint for solid coverage [Music] for the top i'm going to do a wash with the same color [Music] using a wash on a raw wood it works as a stain but it's even better because it's done with water-based paint instead of oil-based stain [Music] you're going to want to let that dry for few hours [Music] it's not perfect but we got some nice wood grain let it dry completely before moving to another step every time i work with raw wood i like to go over it with a paper bag it's like a really smooth sandpaper and it's going to leave your surface super smooth [Music] now it was time for the redesign with prima transfer i chose this transfer because it's so colorful and happy and big which is perfect to cover this damaged top perfect idea it had some letters on it that i wasn't going to use so i had to cut those out they're pretty easy to use you place them where you want and they stick to the surface [Music] then you transfer the image over with a stick that comes in the package it's not hard at all but you want to take your time and go back for all the pieces you miss [Music] eventually you will have a nice and clean transfer like this [Music] now you can carefully line up the rest of them and do the same [Music] [Music] three [Music] [Music] [Music] i started adding some transfers to the front as well [Music] so [Music] [Music] i was just trying to see how this will look but i ended up not wanting it so i sanded that down to paint over it [Music] i also clean up the drawers borders with paint this gave me that nice and clean look when it was dry [Music] now it was time to add our new hardware and add some gold of course [Music] for gold i'm using this gold paint from redesign with prima [Music] it's a very thick and pigmented [Music] so [Music] and i did go back into those details with my black [Music] [Music] i used two coats of gold for solid [Music] [Music] coverage [Music] to seal everything i am using a flat top coat by paint couture [Music] it goes on milky but it dries clear [Music] i ended up applying four coats of top coat on the top of the desk [Music] this top coat is going to protect our paint and our transfer which is great because you want to protect all that hard work that you did [Music] and for the legs i use this sponge brush to apply my gold [Music] so [Music] and it was done [Music] [Music] [Music] this desk was looking so hopeless the top was ruined but here i came and we saved it it looks so beautiful and so dramatic it's definitely going to be a center of the tension in any room it goes so i really love it i really enjoyed the process of creating this piece it was just so fun applying this a large transfer and i think it brought this desk back to life completely all these flowers all this color i really hope you like this video if you did give me a thumbs up leave a comment below and subscribe if you haven't already i will see you next time and bring your new projects and new ideas bye everybody you
