Welcome to this tutorial for beginners. I'll show you how to create a new project, import videos and use different functions such as keyframes and chromakey. When you start the software you have 2 options Load existing project or create a new project I want to open a new project. Let's call it "Holivar my project" Default movie settings are perfect to create good quality videos You have the option of ticking the box "copy media to project folder" to find all medias used in your project in the same folder. Your screen is divided in 3 sections The monitor for the preview The media pool where you will find the effects and many options And the tracks where you will work on pictures, videos and sounds. Most of the time we're going to work with the "timeline mode" Very easy to use with track 1,2,3,4... More information about the media pool In the import tab you will find the "Holivar my project" folder You can access all drives and directories on your computer In the "Effects" section You will find the Title Editor, and options to change dimensions, colour, position... In the "Templates" tab you will find titles templates, several transitions for your project and Test Images that I found very useful as you will see in my tutorials I recommend that you enable the "jog"in the monitor menu You will see how to use it later on in this tutorial Of course do not forget to save your project from time to time You can import a media file from the media pool Select a picture and load it into your project by holding down the left mouse button Drag and drop it to the track Click on "minus" to give abetter overview of your timeline You can import a picture directly from a folder in the same way Click PLAY to watch the preview, the orange playback marker indicates the current playback position Same thing for an audio file that can be inserted on track 2 All tracks are played at the same time You may create "wave form display" by right clicking on the audio file Next example with a video file Drag and drop it to the track Sometimes you will get this pop-up The resolution of your movie is different than the one of your imported file I would recommend you click on "do not adjust" because you don't want to change the resolution of your project everytime you import a file with a different resolution An important thing when you import a video is that you have the video and the audio on the same track You can separate themwith a right click on the video Audio functions / Video and audio on separate tracks Now you have the video on track 1 and the audio on track 2 As previously you can create wave form display for the audio file You can remove original audio from your video by right clicking on your file Audio functions / Remove audio object Now you can import a new audio file below your video Use the JOG to move slowly in your project or to choose the exact position you want on the tracks You will move in your video frame by frame The main shortcuts are Undo, to cancel the previous action Redo Delete Select the object you don't want anymore on your timeline and click on "delete" Title Editor, to insert a title in your movie In the Title Editor options, you'll be able to change size, colour, shadow, border The next shortcut is "Chapter Marker" essential for making a DVD Open the dialog at the top right for burning discs Group and Ungroup If you select 2 objects on your tracks and click on "group", they will move together, identically Click on "ungroup" and they're not linked anymore Mouse modes Mode for single objects Mode for single track Mouse mode for all tracks Single mode is the normal operating mouse mode, most of the time you will work using this mode Mode for single track, all the objects on the same track move together Mode for all tracks, all the objects on all tracks move together After using these modes, do not forget to go back to the normal mode The "object stretch mouse mode" Select your object and use lower handles to increase length of your picture on the track In the case of a video, by increasing length you reduce speed Split objects To use this option, choose the right position on your timeline where you want to split your object and click on the shortcut Now you can delete the part that you don't need anymore Size and positions To change the size of a picture, select your object on the timeline Go to "Effects / Size, Position" and use of the 9 handles. You can now easily reduce or resize your picture You can make the changes directly in the monitor or with the right panel using the options like "rotation" or the zoom In the monitor menu you can reduce the size of your project to work on it more easily It's the same thing for a video, go to Effect and Size Position In the Video Effects menu you will find how to change the colour as well Third example with a title Effects , Size Position and let's go back to 100% It is essential to understand how the tracks work You've got one picture on track one A video on track 2 and a title on track 3 Track 1 is behind track 2, and track 1 and track 2 are behind track 3 It's like a stack of layers Track 3 (the title in my example) is on top of the object of track 2 which is itself on top of the object of track 1 On each track you will find three options SOLO, MUTE and LOCK, Using MUTE, the tracks selected are not played Using SOLO , only the tracks selected are played Using LOCK , you can't make any changes to any of the objects on the track By clicking on "PLUS" you insert a new track. A new picture imported on this track will be behind all of the others I'm going to show keyframes usic a basic example I want my picture to start at this position and 5 seconds later to be at this position and to finish here in 10sec To do so, first Move your playback marker to zero second on your timeline Move your picture to the right position in the monitor Go to Effects / Size Position and click on "create a new keyframe" One keyframe has been created Now move your playback marker to 5 seconds on the timeline, place your picture at the right position in the monitor Go to Effects / Size position to create a second keyframe Once again move your playback marker to 10sec , move your picture in the monitor and create a third keyframe Let's watch the result I would like to take this opportunity to show you how to create FADE IN and FADE OUT effects, using the white dot handles The chromakey effect is fun to use Example with this video of a plane taking off with a green background Select your video Go to Effects / Chromakey and click on the green button All the green in my video disappeared Everything in green has become transparent Now you can insert a picture Place it on track 1, so it becomes a background for your first video You can add a taking-off sound effect on track 3 When you have finished editing you can export your project Open the dialog "finish movie" at the top right Choose "Output as a video file" Choose the quality and the format Give a name to your video and save During the export you can have a look at the preview Depending on your project and how powerful your computer is , the export process may take a very long time Once the export is finished your movie can be watched I hope you found this tutorial useful and if you did please LIKE it Don't forget to subscribe to my channel for more tutorials For those who already havethank you for your support Have fun and see you soon!
