favorite song to record with seth for our album oh my god i don't know there have been so many we just did one this could be the start of something big and it's just one of those songs where we're singing together for the majority of the song and it's so fast and so powerful it's a stephen edie song we love them and uh it's just so much fun and it's so crisp and there's so much energy so much precision seth's harmonies are really complicated it's kind of everything i love so you're walking along the street or you're at a party or else you're alone and then you suddenly dig you're looking in someone's eyes you suddenly realize that this could be the start of something big fun yeah remember fun i don't every morning every evening and we got fun not much money oh but honey ain't we got fun i tried if wifey wishes to go to a play don't wash the dishes just throw them away you guys i shouldn't have tried seth's part but i did oh lower than i thought look look look look look look um you know the only the only thing that's coming to mind but nobody wants to hear me singing this so i won't sing it i'll just sing the opening before it gets good um look at me look at changing in a letter to yourself ah i love staley dan the the biggest kind of adjustment for me and one of the saddest moments of my quarantine was when i realized i wasn't going to be able to see steely dan at the hollywood bowl i was so excited to see them that was the biggest bummer to have to cancel them to have to cancel that concert and i cancelled my wedding and i still think that was a bigger disappointment man the winds grow colder suddenly you're older and all because of the man that got away no more he's that's enough of that hear how wide my vibrato was on uh away time for me to go to oh my god sister golden hair no one i'm like a i'm like a 60 year old man my musical taste is your dad's musical taste it's funny i have an extensive knowledge of you know songs from long long ago you know like songs from the 30s and 40s and a little bit of the you know 50s but then a lot of 60s kind of amazing knowledge of the 70s i i i feel really confident that i could go toe-to-toe with someone who lived through the 70s and loves music at this point and then i just drop off at the 80s i don't know anything i just am an idiot i just i know the basics and that's it i don't know i just doesn't it doesn't do it for me 80s music which is bad but like whatever it's what it is 90s yeah i'm pretty good and then of course early 2000s i know it all more i love you more today than yesterday people people people people who need people are the luckiest people in the world i really went for that one picture tell me something just ain't right i'll put your picture away [Music] i sat down and cried today hey hey i can't look at you while i'm lying next to him smile let's go with the most classic smile though your heart is aching smile even though it's breaking when there are clouds in the sky you'll get by i'm gonna stop there before i uh before i mess it up but what a beautiful song let's all cry and talk about it no just kidding let's move on what song made me fall in love with music that is insane that's such a hard question i don't know i listened to so much music growing up and it started when i was younger i listened to a lot of uh a lot of you know really young like disney songs i would watch disney movies and i would get obsessed with songs you know from whatever cinderella and hercules and all these things and you know i won't say i'm in love i would sing that around my house with this total energy as if i could relate to the song at all at six years old or whatever i was um but then as i got older i would take the bus into uh manhattan from new jersey where i lived to go um do the broadway show i was on to go to work and i was young i was maybe 15 years old at the time and i was alone on the bus for like an hour and so it was kind of you know a meditation time for me and my dad had always played joni mitchell around the house growing up that was his main you know singer that he would put on his main artist so i listened to it you know growing up always but i never took the time to really sit down and focus in and and really spend time with uh with her music and i listened to blue top to bottom on the bus ride into work one day and my brain just exploded and i was just like oh my god this is the best thing i've ever heard tell um oh no no my god i have one tell me something girl does that count yeah are you happy in this modern world or do you need more is there something else you're searching for you know it's very telling that that i chose to sing bradley's part jackson's part when i very well could have also sang gaga's part it has the same words i think i just like being jackson maine i was him for halloween a couple years ago and it really it really stuck a song that i wish was my own that's hard there are so many a song that struck me in a really major way and there have been a lot of them that have struck me over the years where it just comes on and all of a sudden you're just like you you just your stomach drops um it's jealous guy by john lennon i love that song so much i love the way it's written i love how simple it is i love how how powerful it is i love the way it builds where there are a lot of verses but each verse you know becomes more intense and more emotional and i love that i love a slow build i just think to write simply and powerfully is the most effective and yet the most challenging thing to do i was dreaming of the past and my heart was beating fast i began to lose control i began to lose control so simple but it's like ah wish oh oh well if i could have just one wish i wish you could see the way you kiss [Music] where did i just go i don't even know that song i guess you could i mean am i okay as long as it counted bizarre how did i do i think i did okay i think it was pretty i didn't i didn't miss any words so that's something right i mean that's that's better than not right i didn't lose if i didn't lose that means i that i won because i was only competing with myself so i guess i did great i nailed it
